It took me 40 years to discover this gem... I've been in love with Cyndi since She's So Unusual (I had the LP in the 80s) but I didn't know she was in a band before that. Probably one of the most underrated voices in the history of pop music.
Same. And there is only one viable explanation - it's the Mandela Effect and we are on a parallel Earth now. I suggest we immediately join forces, find out how many others came over with us, and take control of this joint before sht gets real.
I am sorry, this is the only Toppop recording they did. I was in the studio at the recording and it was a thrill. Too bad Polydor dropped them from the label. It was broadcast on 21 November 1980.
Well it wound up good for her but bad for the guys in the band. Didn't they do another Album that was never released for Polydor ? I would like to hear that Album, LOL.....The reason I think she went with the Punk look in 84 was two-fold, her age and she had failed so to speak, even though the Album was good, so her handlers wanted to try something different, to appeal to teens and in order to release her pent-up energy on stage in a natural process. It worked well for her, but the dudes in Blue Angel, not so much.
Saludos, Much appreciation! This track was the first of so many reasons I fell in love, was smitten by Cyndi. I remember watching her performances on the Johnny Carson Show and just how taken aback even he was by her charm and energy, not least to mention the calibre of her work on stage. Cyndi is a "One in Trillion", there will never be another one quite like her! Cheers!
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! This song is AMAZING!!! I've been a Lauper fan since Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. Never knew she recorded this beautiful song. Her vocals are stunning! Wow!
I sought this cassette tape out in the mid 80s once I heard there was another album of her music with a band called, "Blue Angel". If this was released in like 1965 with that old 60s sound, it'd have been a hit! She was soooo crazily talented. I'm so happy her path led her to recording She's So Unusual! She is a rock and roll hall of famer, according to the fans who voted, but hopefully the critics will realize she is next time. Money Changes Everything, Change of Heart, I Drove All Night and more are great rock songs and she was sooooo influential it's sick!! Time After Time, True Colors, Girls Just Want To Have Fun, All Through The Night ---- come ON!
She has some some wonderful songs oh so well. None better than this song. Cyndi has done it many times over the years, all brilliant. My opinion. Hope She does this in Australia this year,.
Im so glad I found this video of Im Gonna Be Strong...I bought the Blue Angel album when I was a teen and loved it...but over time threw out all my albums like a fool.. ive been trying to find her Blue Angel version for awhile. Her later version as a solo artist was good...but this version is incredible!!
And to think that 40 years later, being about 64 y/o, she can still sing like that. Thank you very much for the video, a real gem worth preserving. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Edit: She's actually 68 at the moment, wow! Hope she keeps touring, seen some recent performances here on YT, she's outright amazing.
Thanks Cyndi, for helping me to find the strength through your voice & lyrics to make it through my wife of 34 years leaving me. I’m going to keep on being strong. Keith. God bless you.
I had been looking this video since forever. I still have my original Blue Angel record in mint condition. I love this early stuff from her. I think the other video is for "Too Late".
unbelievable performance. the other 80s gals don't hold a candle to her, (except Kate Bush). severely underrated vocalist. the whole Blue angel LP is great fun. but this track just rips your heart out.
I vaguely remember Blue Angel's I'm Gonna Be Strong being reissued in the wake of Cyndi's solo success - Polydor must have been kicking themselves! And later I saw the promo for I Had A Love on her episode of Brian Johnson and Mark Knopfler's show.
CYNDI CYNDI CYNDI MY GOSH GIRL THAT FLIPPING WAS AWESOME, MY daughter was born with Spina Bifida in 1979, many shunt head surgerys, she fell in love with you and your music and style, when she was little , when you cut your hair, SHE THREW A FIT , BECAUSE I WOULD NOT LET HER DYE HER HAIR, AFTER A SHUNT SURGERY. SHE HAS LOVED YOU since girls just wanta have fun. Our family loves you, because you helped her so much , just by being you. thank you , - that song you just sang was amazing , im watching your documentary - love it. ps if you come to DM area, I will try to get my daughter to see you.
At age 56, my discovery of this band, and *especially* with Cyndi being the lead, is freaking me out worse than finding out, at age 31, that Ray Charles recorded a Country album with The Rolling Stones' Keith Richard (not a joke). I am now doing a deep dive to make sure Mötley Crüe hasn't released a yodeling polka album.
Does anyone know if Skid Row's Sebastion Bach plays the harpsichord? That info will save me a TON of research time; as the whole Mötley Crüe thing isn't going well. The internet says no polka albums of any kind, but I'm certain it's lying.
I loved this when It first came out. It wasn't even noticed till She had a Hit with "Girls Just want to have Fun" then they Re-Issued this but It was not to be sadly. They only did Two Records do You have the Other One "I Had A Love"??. Many Thanks for these Keep them coming.
@@Zod741 oh interesting. I’ll have to check them out too… If there is anything out there on them. Did you ever hear Blue Angle live? I’m guessing not otherwise you would have said. 😉
No one can belt them out like Cyndi.. She's the best.

First I've ever heard of blue angel. Cyndi's voice - fantastic. Thank you for sharing this.

One of the most powerful voices off our time ...CYNDI LAUPER YOU ARE A GEM....
Power is not the single most valuable thing about singing. Just saying.
@offbeat65 There's a bunch. Tone, range, being unique, ect. Cindy had a bunch of them. What's your point?
I agree
Wow! Just wow! She was, and still is, out of this world amazing!

This is the best group she had. Just my opinion. All the songs on this album are great. She shows her vocal range on this tune.
She has some some wonderful songs oh so well. None better than this song. Cyndi has done it many times over the years, all brilliant. My opinion. Hope She does this in Australia this year,.
すごい歌唱力!現在68歳になっても、この歌唱力を維持しているとは、シンディ・ローパーは正に、女神だ!
This song fed my teenage soul when I was losing my religion, my family and my whole community. And it still does.
the cleanest and most heavenly divine ending harmonics ahh i can't put it in words what a masterpiece

One of the greatest voices we have ever heard... AMAZING
I saw them in the 80’s before she became a super artist. You could tell she was going places.
That will always be the most amazing vocals on any song ever recorded. So amazing. I could listen a million times and still sob every time..
poetica e artísticamente meia doidinha! 😁

This was an old Gene Pitney song. I thought she'd only covered it solo. So great to find this
My elder sister had the Gene Pitney original and then her daughter had the Cyndi solo version on 12 Deadly Cyns.
Thanks for a great job from Russia!
That woman is fucking amazing. 🙌🏻❤️ I bet she'll be a successful solo artist someday. 🤔😉😏
I have serious doubts that any other singer could hit and hold those notes as well as Cyndi.
I just watched 3 hours of Cyndi lauper... Time for night nights.
She's so beautiful. Crushing at 38🙄. Need a hobby!
Incredible ! Cindy laupar

Did Weird Al Yankovic ever do any Motley Crue songs as part of a polka medley?
This is so good
What a voice !!!I think she surpasses Whitney Houston. Cindy has a powerful pitch and angel voice at the same time my god!

it's been a eayr since i posted n here, i have to admit her version is by far the best i have ever heard
@john e Lawler: Very good version but do u REALLY think it’s better than Gene’s?
@@jefferygoodman9928 no i should have said best COVER version
Wow that's how I remembered her at the metro in Boston for free.
What a fucking singer !!!
I’m shocked I didn’t know this was released in 1980 as I thought it was a new song back in 1994
If this recoding is LEGIT ... then this should have been the first track on "TWELVE DEADLY CYNS ... AND THEN SOME"!!
que linda 🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍❤❤❤❤❤

whouwwwww kippevel
Never before seen by me.
Gorgeous girl
The end of 2023 and I've never heard this song in my whole life and I'm 45 years old
I am not a huge Elton John fan, but I swear to God she is channeling Elton John here.
=M=
Well, it's a cover of a Gene Pitney song if that helps.
this is great sound of music. was there anything else out there that sounded like this at the time?
Amazing climate
0:00 - 0:22 EPIC
I knew the drummer John Morelli at the time. We all knew she would break out.
Oh wow! Sounds like she tried to keep everyone together for as long as she could. How cool. Do you get to meet her?
@ nope only knew John who was in the Tuff Darts as well a great punk band
