Bed Liner Kayak Keel Protection Hack - Fishyaker Kayak Rigging
I did mine a couple years ago. 5 coats. It helps, but it chips off some on areas that are prone to wear. I touch it up during the season a few times and redo it over the off season.
Cool! Thanks! 👍😊
It doesn't last long unfortunately. Best protection that I've learned backed by testimonials, is the Kydex sheets and the 3M outdoor double stick tape. Gloves, tin Snips, heat gun and the product of course. Also take a household iron and run it on small scratches and gouges it works perfectly.
Thanks Cary!
If you ever have a son, you HAVE to name him Edward.
@@OJA1965 I have a twin brother named Edward Scott VerHalen, and yes we both play guitar and love EVH lol
@@caryverhalen You should have been named Alex
@@OJA1965 indeed! Born in 62, VanHalen was conceived in 78 I believe 🙄
This is a fantastic great idea. Thanks buddy I appreciate it👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks Joe!
i use the roller kit , works way better , able to lay it on much thicker and evenly
Nice! Thanks!
Hey, how's it holding up?
Is it still holding up 2 years later? Im thinking about painting it this way i kinda have an OCD for perfection
Now you have to use a speacial primer for plastic for it to stick better
Great idea ...As long as its not gritty it should slid into your truck bed ...
every season you will have to touch it up ....
Thanks! Yep, I made sure to use the less abrasive and less rubbery stuff. 👍
I would definitely like to see how this holds up.
I’ll get a update soon. 👍👍👍
Any update?
Brilliant idea!
Thanks!
Did it slow you down from the grit being added to the bottom?
If it did I didn’t notice
What about adding some 3 or 5mm neoprene sheet to the inside of a sit-in hull for sound deadening and a bit of thermal insulation?
That's a good idea! I have seen people do similar things.
How would it work for the bottom of a rubber raft like the ones at walmart??I know that once on you can't really deflate it but how would it perform do u think...
As the boat deflates, it might crack and try to peek off.
How is it holding up after a year? Did it add a lot of weight?
It worked out great. I can’t promise how well it will adhere to every hull, but mine definitely did. 👍😊
How’s it holding up 10 months later?
Surprisingly well. It stuck to the plastic better than I expected.
That should protect the keel but I suspect it will creat a lot of drag if you pull it up on to a kayak holder/saddle for transport. Let us know how it works.
I’m more thinking it will chip off. The texture is almost exactly like the original hull feel. This isn’t a really gritty version of the bed liner. 👍
Lmao
Can imagine the drag it creates.
How did the bedliner hold up??
Surprisingly well!
How does it perform as a keel guard?
It works surprisingly well. 👍
@@fishyakerthanks for the advice! Also I live in PA near Pittsburgh
Super rough isn't that a really bad idea?
doesn't the texture cause drag?
Not much, if any. Any drag is negligible. 👍
Did it protect the kayak on water?
Yep! Still holding up too. 👍
Does it ad exta weight...to were makes unstable.
It’s not noticeable 👍
It works?
For me, worked great! Some people has issues with it sticking long-term to their hulls though.
Yeah. This did not work at all. I'll be removing it today. Looked pretty, but scrapes right off. It also created a huge amount of drag. Got double the workout just trying to keep up with friends.
Mine stayed on with no problem for a long time and there was no obvious drag.
@@fishyaker you put out great videos, and we look forward to trying new things you post.
I just did this and boy did it drag way worse and got stuck way more definitely wasn't a good idea lol
Bed liner at harbor freight works better .50 dollars a gallon
Cool! I don’t think I’ve seen their’s before.
not a fan of this. pollutes the water with paint/bend liner chips as it comes off (and it will). I'm not a hard core environmentalist but i do want to protect the water when i can. just giving people something to think about before they try this.
Thanks for the thought. I'm about the same as you. I would never handcuff myself to a tree, but I like to be conscious. I try to at least pick up trash if possible
Great point!
Bass tournaments destroy the water and fish. Was out at our local lake last summer while a bass tourney was going and after the weigh in they just dumped their bass back in the water without rejuvenating them. Half of em just floated there. Just pisses me off. They are out there every Saturday doing that crap. Filling up their bag, dumping their bag without care, killing Bass
@@DirtMacGurk1that’s like saying “it’s okay to litter if my neighbor litters, because he’s hurting the environment too”
When you could just not
Que ponte de pintura es y marca
Just coat it with epoxy and you'll never have to touch it again
👍👍👍
Epoxy cracks
Did it hold up?
Yep! Better than I would have ever expected, actually.
Awesome thanks for the info buddy.
