    I did this as keel guard on my 20ft Bay Boat, and my kayak. I used the smooth version of bed liner. It does not have texture in it. Works great better your prep work the better it comes out.

      Paint is fine and other surfaces should be fine also as long as it’s not flaking off. You still need to rough it up first with the pad provided and clean off before applying.

      If you have any holes fill them with JB weld first then put on the Herculiner. Yes, it will help seal up leaky loose rivets but not an actual hole. Make sure to use two coats. Thanks for the comment!

    • @RiverReboot
      @RiverReboot  2 роки тому +1

      Just rough it up with the pad that’s in the kit so it sticks. Do not sand all the paint off. It’s held up perfect on rocks and sand you will be impressed with how tough it is!
      Make sure to wipe off after you rough it up with acetone like I did in video to clean it so the bed line sticks like it should it only takes 10 min to wipe it all down.

      Not really on a small boat with a small engine. My goal is protecting the bottom not speed. On a larger vessel with bigger motor you might lose 1-2 MPH according to what people say about bottom paint.

      A trolling motor I mean you won’t be able to tell because your not planing out but if speed is your main concern then you might want to get an outboard it’s the only way to go faster period as you know.
      Any weight added to the boat as you mentioned will slow down any boat. A boat pulled up on sand and rocks will damage the hill until you must repair it.
      I have a 79 23 SeaCraft and the previous owner always just pulled up in the sandbar to swim hang out. Well, it took the finish off and started showing fiberglass. Long story short I had to repair it. $$

      Not sure maybe the finish is more appealing? This is basic works great and not expensive and holds up well.
      Sometimes simple gets overlooked…Example I painted an entire 5.7 new boat engine with BBQ paint oil base Rust-Oleum high heat. it’s made to resist heat and does a wonderful job! I learned that off of another boating website saved me a ton of $$$$.

      No, nothing you can measure now if you had a bigger outboard on a much bigger boat it could possibly drop but very minimal if any. This compared to fiberglass boats 1-2 mph with bottom paint. It’s paid huge dividends already as I have had to beach it on gravel and sandy beaches already.

    Waste of 100$ “do not buy” ripped off the bottom of my 10ft aluminum tracker topper after the first time taking it gator hunting. Loaded it in my truck bed and when I pulled it out it ripped right off in several spots… better off using something like gator glide, not to mention that this Herculiner stuff is like sand paper so if your dropping into ponds and canals like I do when hunting it makes it way harder to slide the boat in on grass and what not. Great video helped me with the application a lot but not the right product for the job

      If you’re asking can you paint over the bed liner to change the color? I have never done that. My search says you can but you need make sure it’s clean for the paint to stick.
      Can I Paint Herculiner Original Roll-On? Herculiner can be painted though, it is best to use a polyurethane based paint to coat the surface with. Colored polyurethanes may be a little harder to find, but because they are like material and have the same pliability, you will get the longest lasting coverage with it.

      It won’t be as slick as it was of course I use mine on the trailer moving from river to river. I can’t really say it’s a big drag on loading unloading.......I also added vinyl siding scraps to my bunks slides on off nicely!
      Most places I don’t have docks either so rocky sandy bottoms I have to beach to get in and out boat.
      I hope this helps your decision?
