@@tran4merz9 No problem! 👍😀 If you live somewhere where high winds I wouldn’t recommend it. While mine is now going into its 4th winter the fabric is tearing in a few spots and I don’t want to try pushing it to make it through a 5th winter.

Would opening front and rear doors minimize it ballooning or shifting? Really want the 12x20 for a winter home auto shop but it would be about 6 inches from my neighbor's fence. 10x20 would work but I would possibly have to move car/truck left or right if doing work on both sides of vehicle

I’d think it’d allow the wind to blow through. But then again it might also get under and want to lift it. The doors are nice to keep the snow, rain, UV light and birds out.

At place I used to work at we had a large tent for storing all our scaffolding equipment. we used to use come alongs or even chain falls to make sure all the canvas was tight and it would withstand much more wind and weight from snow that way

I can picture that. When I got this tent I was surprised that the cover was made like a blue, poly tarp, just a bit thicker. I thought it’d be more of a heavier duty vinyl material.
It’s still blowing hard and the back panel is beginning to tear. I think I’d have been better off to have left the end panels off of it. Maybe it’d be less affected by the wind if it was a tunnel?

@@thatalaskaguy quite possible if it was a tunnel the wind should blow right threw it. is there any way you can tighten up the poly tarp material? It looks pretty loose and it prob won't last long at the seams with the wind gusting like that.

@@Gerrywalsh1234 I can’t do anything with it right now until the wind stops blowing. We had the cover fitted on pretty snug this fall but now that the frame has been buffeted around so much it does look a bit slack. I was checking out the other tents around town like this one and noticed none of them appeared drum tight either. One benefit if I remove the end panels will be to get rid of the condensation that formed underneath this fall. I was surprised at how bad it was sweating under the cover with the tent zipped closed.

Did it hold up with all that wind? I bought same one a few months ago to cover my car. Will get the big test in couple days as a big storm headed my way. 50MPH wind gusts:( Its anchored and then some. Worried about the seams in the front and rear. Constantly blowing in and out could break the zipper. Ive put some heavy duty bungie cords inside and outside in an X pattern across the front zipper as to alow some flex but also limit flex on that zipper for the garage opening. I think that is the weakest point. If that breaks its a gonner:)

    • @thatalaskaguy
      @thatalaskaguy  2 роки тому

Yes, it did hold up but the rear panel ripped about a foot at the bottom. The front panel somehow partially slipped off the top of the frame and created a gap of about 3” by 12”. I also had one cross member support come loose and fall off one side. The nut worked loose to causing that. I went through the tent and retightened all the nuts as they are plain nuts, not the nylock kind.
Fortunately the tent has survived many wind events. But, unless it’s in a sheltered location in your yard, I don’t see it standing up to high winds if it’s catching the full force of them.

You'll have to do a review on this tent after a while and let us know if it is worth purchasing. Looks like a nice extra space.

I can totally do that. It’s pretty large inside and can easily fit a full size pick up truck and still have room to walk around it. Right now I’m concerned if it made it through the night. I’m almost thinking I should have left the ends off it so the wind would blow through? Who knows? Once it gets light out I might find that the wind blew both ends off. The gusts have been so hard tonight they woke me up several times hitting our house. They seem stronger than 50-60 mph based off past wind storms we’ve had over the years that had higher winds. If it does survive I’m going to move it next summer even further back into the woods.

@@thatalaskaguy They are a good short term solution, but the wind is hard on them. I'm always amazed when mine is still up in the morning after a wind, and over time they wear wherever there is a pressure point. Lots of nights I have lay awake listening to the wind howl and the sides flap :) Interesting timing, I just finished a video on the more permanent solution I decided to go with. Just finishing the edit.

@@MyOldSled I keep meaning to do a follow up on the video. The wind ended up tearing the rear panel. I’m thinking about removing both front & rear panels to the wind can blow through. I’m glad I can’t hear it flap! The high winds hitting the house was bad enough. Part of me is wanting to sell the tent this summer as I don’t see it surviving a second winter. That’s if it makes it through this one.

I just ordered my second one my first one had a rip after first year and the 2 year warranty wasnt up but they didnt help me! I patched the rip i got 3 summers and 2 heavy hard winters! Just cant beat the price is the only reason i bought another! You have to anchor these down wayy way more then you ever imagine

Mine survived our high winds last winter and I left it in place for this year. I can’t believe how much they went up in price at Home Depot in Anchorage. They had them priced at $850 this summer.

Sorry to hear that. I thought I was going to lose mine last winter. I located it in the most sheltered area of my yard behind some existing shed buildings and surrounding trees. So far so good but if mine was more exposed to more wind I’d have lot it already.

I’m so over it! It has blown away so much of our snow that I don’t have many places to ride. This winter is really starting to rank up there with the crappy winters of 14/15 to 18/19.
