I think the general consensus about this song is that Maynard would give away all the luxury and success if it meant losing his son and/or loosing himself/peace.
Now I'm crying.
I was told it’s about his Mom, this whole section leads into Wings 1&2 where does it reference his son? His mother was his center, she helped him get out of drugs and now he is straight edged meaning no drugs for him, well wine but that’s just Maynard.
I think people get confused at the part when he says “benevolent sun” but he’s talking about the sun not his actual son. I’ve always thought that it met his mother since he always refers to his mother being his light and his center.
@@Gideonite because it's literally a play on words. son/sun he does this a lot in his music, using words that could mean two things to subtly say what he means.
Hmmm... Maybe it's open for interpretation but I don't think it is about his mom.
They opened with this when I saw them on their 10,000 Days tour. It was incredible.

Jambi was the name of the Genie in the TV Show Pee Wees Playhouse. Maynard references wishes various times through the song, which is the reason he named the song Jambi after the Genie. As usual very clever penmanship
That's what I thought, but then again I thought it was odd for them to be referring to a pee wee herman tv show. Although honestly it's the only other place I had ever heard the name Jambi.

It's about his the birth of his son and how it changed him. It's a personal favorite. My boys were young when I came out and we would jam to it in the car. Great memories!

Oh man…I usually don’t debate lyrics by I hope it is “damn my eyes” vs “dim my eyes”. Somehow that makes it more interesting to me.
Brother, I went thru the same thing with my son. I went away to prison when he was just 2. For the next 3 yrs he went thru hell bc of his mom's heroin addiction and screwed up lifestyle. She was basically running a trap house with all the trimmings. When I got out, I showed up at her house with child protection and took my son home. It's been almost 2 years now and the little guy has made leaps and bounds. Malnourished, despondent, and outright lethargic. He spoke very little and literally had zero skills that a 4 yr old should have. Since I've had him, he really has come into his own. He was ignored for 3 yrs. And saw things that no human being should ever have to see. I have full custody and couldn't be happier. Keep the faith brother, stay balanced be a pathfinder for your son.
Tool does that to people man. What an inspiration. There’s different tool songs that have made me cry at just the moment I needed them. Really cool connection. I hope you get your boy. Best of luck my friend.

Personally, I feel this is the best piece the boys ever composed. But by only a small margin bc ALL the tracks are superb beyond reason. This one happens to touch me in the most profound way. Does anyone remember who Jambi is? A character on pee wee's playhouse back in the day.

This was my favorite song for the longest time. Hopefully they play it live when you see them. The delay bass riff Justin plays is one of my favorite of all time. I built my own talkbox from junk for guitar when I was 15 because of this song. One of their best, no doubt

Alchemy is a definite theme in their music. "Let the waters kiss and trans mutate these leaden grudges into gold"
I think he was being metaphorical I don’t think he meant anything to do with alchemy. Granted the only thing related to alchemy is the philosopher stone they can turn anything into gold but he’s talking about evolving A Grudge into something valuable like gold instead of letting it weigh you down like lead does.

I was only a kid when I discovered Tool, so it took a little bit more life experience for it to hit me, but when it did, oh man... The themes Tool explore in their music have led me on a journey, changing the entire trajectory of my life.
I've always felt that Tool's Invincible was kinda like a spiritual successor to Jambi. Not really a sequel song but a companion. Also, Tool's Culling Voices is soooo up your alley you should short list it for sure! Glad to hear the little one is letting you sleep. Gets easier for a bit then they get mobile... hang in there they become a little bit more fun every day from here

Been enjoying your reactions to TOOL. I always find it fascinating how many musically inclined people don't get them even though most of their music is inspirational. It's almost like it's too powerful for them and makes them go somewhere they don't want to. Keep it up and hope your 5 month old keeps sleeping :)

Such a spiritual experience; the memory sticks like maple syrup. There are two crescendos in this jam, and both bring goose bumps. Ok man, what's next? You've got a good journey ahead of you. I could be totally wrong and it probably has nothing to do with the song, but if I recall correctly Jambi was the name of the genie head in the box in the tv show "pee wee's playhouse", again outside of "wishing" it all away, I have no idea how they would be connected, but I'm pretty sure that was the name of the genie in that show back in the day.
You know which channel I think is super underrated? Metal Piano Music. The guy spends weeks composing classic metal songs into classical/relaxing piano pieces and he hardly gets any views. I love his arrangement of Painkiller by Judas Priest. That dude deserves millions of followers 🤘🏻

Hey brother. I noticed some fans are suggesting you listen to "Wings For Marie + 10,000 Days" Don't do it...yet. It's a very personal song and the meaning can get lost if you don't know about Maynards mom. He wrote 3 songs about her. 10,000 Days is a masterpiece, but it has to be the last of the 3. The first is "Jimmy" off Aenima, then "Judith" (A Perfect Circle). Wings+10,000 days is the finale. Listening in this order shows you his personal evolution of how he coped with the tragedy. If you decide to do all 3 on the channel, I promise the fans will approve. 👌
I’m loving your reactions. I think the next songs on the album- Wings for Marie Pt 1 & 2 would make for a good next video. They are different to everything else you’ve heard so far. Maynard wrote them after his mother passed away. Make sure you listen to both songs back to back though.

I always love the shift from the Aenima album to 10,000 days. Aenima is so full of apathy and angst while this album shows that relationships my be worth investing and proper emotions are better than none. I don't know where I heard the rumor, but I've heard that this track is Maynard talking about his kid. It could be so many different relationships though, that I don't like constricting it to such a narrow interpretation.
Jambi is some of the best ish. Track two of 10000days.

I dont actually know about the meaning on this one, but I always felt like it is about his son and how having is son "lifted him up and turned him around" and he would wish all of his success away for his son. Along with that interpretation, i think the ending is supposed to be "light our way, benevolent SON, shine until two become one."
This is how I have take it. And yes, it really might be “son” who is healing Maynard and his personal divisions (legion).

I've now listened to this song 5 times since recording this. Totally see what you mean. Carries a different weight.
I'm sure many have asked, but you should react to what is called "The Holy Trinity", which consists of Disposition, Reflection, and Triad.... In that order, great transitions, "the pieces fit" kind of thing. All from Lateralus... It's a very grounding experience for when things are getting away from you in life.
You should try Pushit (Album Vers.) next. Album version is fire but they have a Serival version which takes it to the next level.

@@SebsDuran I don't think it does a lot of sense for you to be doing those songs before doing "Jimmy" from Aenima and "Judith" from Maynard's side project A Perfect Circle, since they're all songs about his mother and it works better if they're all done in chronological order.

The lyrics "Silent legion save your poison. Silent legion stay out of my way" is a nod to the next song on the album wings for marie. Which is a song you MUST listen to.
Is it? I’ve never thought that. Legion is “we are many” from the Bible which the song relates to often. His desire of goods and rock lifestyle vs his desires to be with family.
@@jokergreeting I dont think its a stretch to say the song is about his mom. Being he named the album 10k days. He often refers to critics and fans alike trying to put there stamp on his songs which was ok and in fact the point of his songs but not for wings. That was at least my thoughts.

It's about the fear of losing his son, now listen to "H"
“Silence legion, save your poison” is either you fighting yourself or others who are dividing you from your real goals. I also compare Jambi (jaw-m-bee) to Fear Innoculum where he says in the final lines “deceiver, chased away, a long time, coming”. Jambi is Maynard trying to not give into certain fake/stupid temptations. Many have said this is about his wife or son. It’s both and neither. It’s art so it should fit how you see it and feel it.
Yeah I think it can reflect an inner struggle but I also think he keeps it vague on purpose. Inner reflection and struggles seem to be a consistent theme in Maynards lyrics. Then again, 2 songs on this album alone are specifically about his mother.
Do yourself a favor and watch the non-existent 2013 DVD of Jambi live! It's a preface to what you're going to encounter when you see them live!
