Fun Fact: Bruce Wayne's car (that he sacrifices to save Coleman Reese) in this film is a Lamborghini Murciélago. *Murciélago is Spanish for "Bat".* Lamborghini's naming schemes for their cars are usually taken from famous Spanish fighting bulls. In this case the Murciélago was a bull that was so fearsome and strong it survived 28 sword strokes from the matador who spared the bull which was eventually given to Mr Miura (a famous breeder of fighting bulls).

To this day this is still my favorite movie of all time tied with Live Free or Die Hard (Die Hard 4). Heath's Joker is by far the best movie villain I've ever seen and the smartest, nobody could compare and how realistic he felt. This was the perfect Batman movie and Batman villain. Party scene, Alfred had a line but upon seeing Heath's Joker first viewing, he was so stunned to even speak and when Heath had the blade up to Rachel's face improving it, she tried to look to the director as you could see to CUT but the director didn't because Heath's Joker was so good.

9:02 Batman doesn't kill people. That's his "one rule". That's why he wouldn't execute the criminal in Batman Begins. He more or less just assists law enforcement, in apprehending criminals in ways they aren't allowed to.

I just realized the inspiration of the joker in this movie comes from "V" from V for vendetta, (the white masked mad man/terroist with a huge grin/smile and a dark trench-coat type outfit) especially the part where he dresses up the hostages as the criminals. Both heath ledgers joker and "V" are symbols in the movie, giving them power beyond any man.

This was filmed in Chicago and I remember walking around some of the Movie sets when they were here filming it. Seeing the Batmobile parked downtown near the set was mind blowing. They had to patch some of the damage that they did on Lower Wacker Drive with the garbage truck and other things.
The hospital being blown up in that scene was an actual building slated for demolition here and as others have said, they only got one take of it. They didn't know there was a delay, so they kept the cameras rolling just in case since the couldn't miss getting the shot if it went off. Heath Ledger was an amazing actor and completely improvised that part as he genuinely thought there was something wrong with the remote. It was so good they kept that part in instead of cutting it.
In fact, he went to crazy preparing for this role that he kept a journal of just how hard the toll was on him to descend into the madness that is the Joker. The role literally ended up killing him due to him overdosing in his apartment. I would have loved to see him continue on in the role for at least another movie, but in reading his writings and what he had told people before his death about the role, I'm not sure if his mind would have taken it. Still, he was a genius actor and his contribution to the art will be missed. Who knows how many more amazing performances he could have graced the world with in his future.

Ledger didn't know that there was going to be a pause/delay in the explosions, and he stayed in-character in reacting to it. They only had one take at it, so I'm sure if Ledger broke character there would have been a little cut from the first explosion to the bus leaving.

The thing that makes Batman's villains so great is that they are all darker reflections of Bruce in some way: Batman & Joker are about order & chaos, Scarecrow is about fear, Catwoman is about vigilantism, Penguin is about being rich, Bane is about inner strength, etc etc.....
Also, Joker was going to be in the third movie, but when Heath Ledger tragically passed, they gave some of his plot elements to Catwoman.

Everytime I watch this movie I cant help but notice that it may be an allegory about the post 9/11 Iraq war on terror and kinda takes a pro Bush stance with the whole Not the hero we need but the hero we deserve. Joker obviously being a terrorist threat and Batman's use of the cell phone surveillance system being the immoral response to that indicating the ends justify the means. So Bush and Homeland defense can send someone to GB without trial and waterboard them because joker is a fanatic and will not stop. And we think Bushman is the villain but hes actually the republican hero we deserve?
I know its fucked up but I guess i watched this after the news one day and was just "What the fuck?" because everything just clicked. Regardless Im not even from the states and only Nolan would know so this is just an observation based on politics way back then. Sucks that everyone can talk about how great the movie is but no one really talks about the MUSIC!
If it wasn't for Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard making the music, the movies wouldn't even be what they were!
Yes, I'm a bit of a music nerd here.

"The Joker just wants chaos." Actually there's overarching themes to each of the movies in the Nolan Trilogy.
The theme of Batman Begins was Fear.
The theme of The Dark Knight Rises was Pain.
The theme of The Dark Knight was, as you aptly noticed, Chaos.

The rare movie experience in which you forget you’re watching a movie. This has only ever happened to me twice. The Empire Strikes Back and The Dark Knight.

There was a lot of Bait and switch in this movie and not just by The Joker but when Joker told Batman Rachel's location but it was Harvey's it was probably the most heartbreaking considering Bruce and Rachel's history.
In case no-one's mentioned it Rachel was played by a different actress Katie Holmes was to busy with others projects to reprise her role

Joker is definitely the best villain. When the remote to blow the hospital stops working, that was real and they kept it in.

Did y’all know that they actually blew up a building for the hospital scene? They had to get all that in one take. It was a different building that was being destroyed to remake some new building but it’s such a good scene.

Fun fact: Christian Bale got special permission to stand on the upper setback of The Sears(Not Willis) Tower in Chicago where most of the Movie was Filmed
    He was 1,200 feet up
Also has one hell of an observation deck

10:53 There's really only ONE missed opportunity in the editing of your video, Primate. But I'm not sure you even know about the meme. Ever watched the 1980 Flash Gordan movie? Well BRIAN BLESSED (all caps required!) is playing the Hawkman leader Vultan. And one of his signature lines was "GORDAN'S ALIVE!" (And Blessed drops it to this day whenever he has the chance! :D ) And I thought - if only Primate had inserted that 2 second clip RIGHT THERE it would've made it HILARIOUS. But then again - that might not have fit the tone. But I'm weird like that, so that's what I thought of when watching. :D

Look, I *like* "Dark Knight Rises". Its a really, really good movie... but it doesn't hold a candle to "The Dark Knight". I think Heath Ledgers Death really crippled this trilogy, forcing its final part to revert back to the story of the first movie instead of continuing what was begun in TDK. A third Movie with Ledger returning as the Joker would have been absolutely amazing.

Nothing beats TDK. No batman movie. Nothing. No The Batman didn't beat it. TDK is too iconic. Filmed and written to well. And acted to perfection. And like a little action mixed in with no cgi? Well it has my favorite chase scene ever.
When that Bat bike popped out, if you didn't get chills, you're nor human. Plus Ledgers acting during the entire chase. Just perfection. Ashame you didn't show more of it. The wheel turning sideways and then the suspension dropping and he goes underneath the truck to flip it

Fun fact: The video Joker shoots of the copycat vigilante (The "LOOK AT ME!" video)? Ledger took full control and directed that scene himself. That extra had to be legit terrified.

Def Heath Ledger is the best Joker, with Mark Hamill and the guy from the Gotham series tied for 2nd and finally Jack Nicholson 3rd. I believe Jack Nicholson has the ability to be better but they made the 89 movie too Adam West Campy.
