      Melissa Chan I think the athlete was working on drive through​, hence why it looked like a failed up. The athlete seems to bail at the end although.

    What about the center of mass? I heard there is a technique which makes the center of mass below the pole they are trying to jump over.

      that happens at the top of the vault, when they 'curl' around the bar. Their centre of mass passes under the bar but their body passes over the bar. Watch a video about the physics of high jump, it's the same principle.
