The only time I made a delivery in Chicago a young man jumped on my running board and offered to give me directions to where I needed to go, if I gave him money! I rolled my window up and kept driving! He stayed there for about 4 blocks before he jumped off! Stay safe, keep your doors locked and don’t talk to strangers! 😂

When sliding tandems and the pins are caught move in opposite direction of your goal slightly it will release the stress on the pins and they will retract. Another thing to keep in mind is if you shut the tractor off before unloading you need to supply air to the trailer so it can fill up then once you do that set the break and the pins will retract.

I drove truck in Chicago quite often when I was driving, mostly to rail yards picking-up or dropping trailers.
Gotta watch super closely at bridge heights and the crazy 4-wheelers. Streets are narrow in many places and lots of places where people park at the corner and you suddenly realize you cannot make the turn you want to make. Gotta love it.
Even Chicago area rail yards are quite often extremely 'tight' as well.

I know how you feel about Chicago. I feel the same way. Lots of tight turns in busy urban areas, cars parked in between medians when you need to make a left turn, shit like that. Started my trucking career fresh out of school driving up and through Shitcago, especially the south and west side. And was driving a 10-speed manual after having just learned. Was anxiety inducing but great practice right out of the gate in rush hour stop and go traffic. Now I am wizard on a 10-speed. One day I spent 4 hours in Friday rush hour traffic going around downtown and only drove about 10 miles in that 4 hours. That's how bad it is. I've driven in all 48 main states and used to drive through New York City quite a bit especially through the Bronx and onto Long Island. Even NYC is not as bad as Chicago.

I think the 'cab over' you saw early in this video was what's known as a 'horse'. People who frequently move trailers around use them.
Using the 'horse' is easier than using a regular tractor. You see 'horses' a lot at rail yards and basically any kind of trailer yard.

It's like Phoenix everybody goes at least 10 over the speed limit and doesn't care about signaling. The purring of truck motors when I lived in a van last winter, helped me sleep. I always loved parking overnight next to truckers with their motors on all night.

When need to swing wide from the right lane into the left lane but traffic keeps coming, do u blow your horn to get traffic to stop for u so that u can swing out (like this guy did)? Or do u wait for the space to clear and then swing out? Just wondering......

I know Alex don't read comments but hopefully i can help someone else about air slides. When u set traler brakes at the dock, & fork lift going in n out, it dumps ALL THE AIR out of the trailer, so when u pull out of the dock, u need to wait couple of minutes for trailer to air back up, then slide will work just fine.

Actually there is quite a bit of room at this facility. Some of the places I have delivered to are alot smaller. I hate it when the worker tries to give instructions on backing, probably no CDL. I had a person telling how to back so I rolled up the window on her. She came banging on my door saying I can't hear her instructions. That was the point.

It's always fun waiting 2-4 hours on almost every load with GP Transco, every now and then you get a load that gets loaded or unloaded in 30-45 minutes. I have had 2 drop and hooks in 9 weeks i have been with them. Metal and Paper seems to be about 90% of what they haul. Then if you get a dispatcher that makes you wait up to 2 hours to get your next pickup then you'll be rushing to drive your last 7-8 hours on your clock. About to leave to a western regional company with a 70% drop and hook rate, only big name retail companies. East coast sucks, especially the northeast, they need more truck parking.

If ever your unsure where to go on site, A lot of places will actually have a site map printed on paper that they can give to the drivers and that you can keep. Otherwise bring your phone with you into the office, and get them to point out on the satellite view exactly where to go, It will save you a lot of time and hassle especially on larger sites.
Also carrying a small spray bottle with a mixture of water and dish soap, will help you find any possible air leaks, because any Leaks will create bubbles in the mixture when you spray your tires or airlines. Take care Alex, drive safe.
