Do not blindly follow GPS. Not even truck GPS, which is often wrong. GPS and atlas are only tools. They can be helpful, but can't rely on them 100%. Need to also use your own eyes and brain to figure it out. And for navigating city streets, need to pull out your computer and get truck routing from that city's website. New York city has some very good maps available, both online and paper (that they'll mail for free). Need to do your homework before going into cities. That having been said, companies are to fault here too. OTR truckers have to drive all over America, and it's asking a lot to expect them to do all of that research for so many deliveries, on top of everything else they have to do. And low wages to boot. What trucking companies should do for places like NYC and Chicago is have local drivers in day cabs do the pickups and deliveries, then hand it off to OTR drivers at drop yards to do the long distance. The local drivers can have knowledge of the streets and how to get to each customer, and a day cab is easier to maneuver in tight spots. And the companies should provide maps for local streets, too. They send hundreds of trucks to a lot of these places every year, but it would take just one person a few hours to create a map for how to navigate the complex maze of streets to get there safely and legally. They do nothing but provide a street address, and sometimes even that is wrong (e.g., the office address rather than warehouse). And the street address isn't necessarily the delivery entrance, which might be on a different side of the property. And it might be crucial to be driving down the street a particular direction to be lined up for it. And truckers are just left to figure this stuff out on their own, driving blind into new locations. False economy.
@@dimitridimitri616 you cannot rely on companies remember they don't give a shit about the driver they want to make their money they will send you to the darkest hole and won't give a fuck but they will get their money at the end of the day does it matter if you made it home or not so you need to be real fucking strong-minded or you will fuck everything up out there
Had 3 months of experience when my company sent me to NYC I try to refuse the load but no one was taking so I ended delivering, first 2 drops were okay..ish..Had to break some laws but I guess that’s the NY way but on my 3rd drop I got stuck making a tight turn where i shouldn’t have.. I knew I was in the wrong but delivery was around that corner..anyhow I couldn’t make the turn so I ended up dropping the trailer and had to come from another direction to get it out and find another way around it. Cringing experience but I didn’t break the golden rule....if you screw up, just don’t hit anything lol
I feel ya, my first run was 2nd week in. Brooklyn under train tracks. I remember that sweating day like it was yesterday. Good experience thought, now I go to NYC with my eyes closed as long as it's paid well enough.
Lol this is golden rule indeed. 😅 I was so close to park cars some times that I was just moving my truck a little bit, stop walk watch, move a little bit, stop walk watch, then you look and you are like, if my calculations are good, I just be able to make my turn without hitting this car. Good 👍🏻

almost none of the highways in nyc allow bus or trucks. Its very stupid i think. The mayor wants more people to take public transit. they need to get some bus going express on the highway. It takes way too long to go from Brooklyn to Queens, the Bronx to queens etc. They made a lot of traffic cutting back lanes for bikes and buses only. But it doesn't speed anything up as you still have to wait for the red lights and someone always double parks as they cut parking for rental bikes. =(
A similar situation like this happened to me years ago. I was in a city that I was unfamiliar with and I didn't trust my gps that had screwed me over before. I called in to the shipper and got directions but the lady failed to mention the low bridge on the way. I pulled on to that street and saw the bridge up ahead and immediately stopped. I had no idea what to do so I just called the non emergency line of the local police and explained my situation. 4 police cars showed up and they helped be back up to another street to get me arround the low bridge. What an incredibly stressful situation but I stayed calm and the police were incredibly helpful. The best thing you can do is just park it and wait for help. Trying to get out of situations like this yourself will just cause damage to property, vehicles and your equipment.
i feel this guys pain, im a pretty new driver and am constantly learning what I can and can't do. Its just part of the process. Nothings damaged, nobodys hurt, just some pissed off commuters, theres worse things that can happen.
I worked for this company they will send you right into NYC no second thoughts not safe and its all about the dispatchers pushing for any loads they can get
Eagle Eye - Not the owner’s expense, NYPD has their own tow trucks running around. Don’t know if the officer did this, but running the plate to contact the owner would also have been an option.
Ahahahhahahahahahahahahahah no joke tho 😂 this is the realest shit I’ve seen here , 4 years ago I came into a tight Walmart parking lot in a small town, I destroyed 2 signs all I said was oops lol keep trucking
Ha ha ha! That's 😂 funny. I've been a trucker for 26 years. It's all I've ever done. Trucking is more of a way of life than it is a job. If it's in your blood there ain't nothing ya can do about it. You sir have the soul of a trucker.👍👍👍
I drove dedicated from Atlanta to NYC two times a week. I was nervous the first trip. I ended up in downtown Bronx the first time. My nerves were a wreck. I managed to get out with not too many issues. A local asked where I was going and he actually escorted me by the best route. He mapped out a route for me when I told him my route. Ever since then, I followed his routing and it lead me directly to the dock where I needed to be with no issues. The dock sucked like hell. It was in an alley between two buildings and no light on the dock to help angle your trailer. I did that dedicated for one month. It became stressful over time. It was a great experience though and actually made me improve my skills. This was back in my 2nd year of driving. Now, tight docks and blind backing really don't bother me anymore. Would I do it again, honestly, NO. Imagine how great new driver's would be if all the driving schools in America were based out of NYC, and the bureaus.
"TRUCKS ON EXPRESSWAYS ONLY....NOT PARKWAYS!" As a seasoned vet I can't get the image of those signs out of my head when I'm near new York city....but it helps!
Love how people assume we have all the answers for the places we've never been. I've had directions from a shipper put me in a community college.... Shit happens. As long as you get her out without taking a car or pole with you it's a good day.
Crazy thing is the whole time you’re trying to get free your dispatch will be calling bugging you about how long it’ll take and what’s your ETA at the moment 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️... Pitiful but true
Justin Patton I would’ve put dispatch on mute & never answer till im ready. They don’t matter at this point. Ur driving/accident record does. To hell with the load.
Dispatch can wait. 1st thing is get out of this mess. You can't screw around with them, because you'll get in deeper trouble, not focusing on what's going on in front of you
First of all. TRUCK GPS WILL SEND YOU TOWARDS LOW BRIDGES AND CLEARANCE JUST LIKE A CAR ONE WILL. second, A BADGE DOESNT MAKE YOU SMART NOR DOES IT MAKE YOU A TRUCK DRIVER
@@alexmp3821 they will, I was in NY the outer parts and this crap sent me the wrong way. There was a guy nodding his head nooo you back. I did, thank God I got the U turn. My google maps had the correct GPS route and it's not set up as truck obviously but this stupid Qualcomm sent me to hell
Im so glad then when I was a driver I basically did airport runs..no local delivery or city driving....this video was one of my worst fears as a driver having to deal with that BS
Jd Kepler what I saw was a truck driver that thought he knew what he was doing. the cop looked like he had more experience than all of the truck drivers combined.
Ray Weeks in some states cops actually do go through both cdl and dot training as to better understand both the law and the capabilities of trucks to better understand what we go through.not sure if new York is one of those states, but I think it was pretty nice of that cop to help that driver, why do people need to criticize everything.
Frank Contreras they were both clueless. Not enough experience to be in the city like that. Not trying to be mean but they don't train these guys enough.
I feel like he could've made that turn if came out that loop wide enough and oh my god the stupid cop giving wrong directions like dude u do not have a cdl
all veteran drivers would know rite off the bat that the turn is too tight..why even attempt the turn especially with cars parked on the curbside...c'mon yeah it sucks but park along side of road and walk around investigate your areas and decide what to do next..he had a codriver to help..damn.
Jose Gonzales When in doubt get out! I always do a walk through when I'm not sure. Clearly this turn is a no-no, even if he slid the tandems all the way up: it would be difficult to pull off.
obviously CRST is a starter company, and that is probably a trucker with less experience far from a veteran. i bet when you was a new within ur first 3 months, you may have done a turn or 2 or more where you pulled into somewhere you shouldn't of.
yes. werner sent me to brooklyn my first week with werner and my trainer. they was rough as can be with me. it just toughened my skin in the end and made me a better driver. they thought it would break me, but it just toughened my skin.
dfgfdgf fsddsfdsff they didn't send you there to break you you see when you become a truck driver you're supposed to know everything you're like a glorified psychic LOL
No truck driver should go in NYC...ever. The street structure of this city its not designed for today's rigs. How many times this has happened and the poor driver pays for everything. Fines, tickets, hate from the locals for blocking traffic etc... It's not worth it.
Once he detached the trailer he should have gone around the block and reconnected to the trailer from the opposite side, then utilized the police escort to drive back the way he came (the wrong way down the street)
YOLO NYC by Eric David What do you mean? There is only one king pin on that trailer. There would be nothing for the tractor to connect to on the rear end.
This is why I got out. Trucking companies don't want to pay for experience. They rather hire drivers right out of school pay them shit, and send them out with 53 foot trailers to places you need big experience for. This is incredible.
Danny soldano how do u get experience by some one giving chance to get you don't born with it next when all the experience drivers retired or die off who will be there to drive the truck ppl learn and gain experiences as time goes by
Everyone's human and everyone makes mistakes. Nothing's more nerve racking then going to a new area not knowing the area or where your going, only trucker drivers know just how wrong it can all go and how much trouble you can get in. gotta commend the guy for staying so calm and see it through.
I know this images are educational, but one of the worst things anyone can do to a trucker is record pictures when that trucker is in a bad situation. Makes that driver feel a lot worse.
Was in new jersey in west new your on east kennedy and 60th. Got flustered and ripped out some little poles from the side walk blew a tire the whole nine. Cops were real patient and understanding. We've all had this happen
It's all experiance, day by day ,each situation deal with it as they come . Just another day on the road,(as long as you learn from each situation, each mistake) cuz believe me they won't tell you about 95% of what you need to know
The same thing happened to someone I know! It happened in the early 1980s. He got stuck on a residential street in some neighborhood of NY and it took hours to get out of it and all that time he was yelled at and people were throwing things at his truck from the windows and roofs! A few months after the incident, he was starting his new career as a real estate agent! 😁
I feel for that CRST driver. I hope he was able to keep his job. Driver in blue shirt did an amazing job. Great teamwork all around! Thanks for posting this..
He needs to be fired for lying and blaming his situation on his GPS device when obviously it is him that doesn't know how to use a GPS device properly .
That shit made my chest hurt. I can feel this guys pain. I was once stuck at a dollar tree and had to do some shit like this to get out. Had no experience at backing into dollar trees and that was very brutal. Lost some confidence and it took a good while to gain it back.
wow why u harassing he has the right to exist and say things like that without being harassed. i think ur the one with the issues, not him. u dont talk to people like that. some day you'll learn the hard way if you keep it up. not from me, but in general u will have more headaches than the rest of us good people.
this why I always say gps is just a suggestion always use road maps. and also I see this all the time on longisland on the parkways. these drivers are not trained good anymore
Frank Stein ...Sir. the guy that got the truck out was not the actual driver . he was helping the young white guy with the headset on. he's the actual driver of the rig.THE WHITE GUY!
realist adopted a Trucker's GPS would have told him to stay off that street a much more effective than any Atlas but believe it or not it's a lot harder to read a GPS that it is an atlas
If it was possible, would sliding the rear axles back on the trailer to change the rear pivot point help to maneuver easier in this tight spot? Not a trucker here... just was wondering.
I've put myself in a situation like this before when I drove OTR. All I did was back out the same way I went in and went down some more blocks that allowed me to turn.
that's why ill never follow gps.i trust it as far as I can throw it,it doesn't specify where trucks can and cant go,it doesn't always say whether its a 1 way street or not,and it doesn't clarify low bridges. in any of the 5 burroughs of new York city it is detrimental that a trucker knows exactly where they are at all times and exactly what routes they can and cant be on. the best way to go into the big apple is to call every time before you even go in there.that is one place you cannot afford to make a wrong turn in!
I drove for CRST for a year or so. Dispatcher told me that only drivers who are on the shit list get sent to NYC. As far as GPS, I bought the Rand McNally truckers edition, set up for max dimensions and weight, and it would not keep me on truck routes all the time. Might not be the drivers fault for following it's directions. On the other hand, what driver would attempt such a tight turn? Not me.
I remember the first time i drove in NYC as an over the road truck driver, it was hell! I gotta say though you new yorkers were incredibly nice and friendly. Everyone genuinely felt sorry for me that i had to drive there. It was not the response i was expecting for sure being a Tennessee boy!
I drove for CRST and trained there. I did my 10 month contract with a co driver. Left to go train at a community college truck driving school. I knew staying with crst I would have eventually lost my job. They do not train adequately. None whatsoever. The drive management see this plus saw it coming. They Dont help you at all.
Anything can happen to any of us I been throw many when I was new truck driver, but turn your 4 flasher on and dont panic you will get out with no damage

Yes .. You need to literally need to get on Google maps and zoom in to the location where you are going.
DonTruman AMEN!!!
Well said sir !! If it looks tight, I put my 4 ways on and walk around too figure it out . The company should provide more information for entry point
@@dimitridimitri616 you cannot rely on companies remember they don't give a shit about the driver they want to make their money they will send you to the darkest hole and won't give a fuck but they will get their money at the end of the day does it matter if you made it home or not so you need to be real fucking strong-minded or you will fuck everything up out there
I can't stress enough use satelite footage on GPS
Happens to the best of us. I blindly followed my gps once and I got stuck, had to be towed out of my own mess. You just live and learn
Attitude is everything.
Lol this is golden rule indeed. 😅 I was so close to park cars some times that I was just moving my truck a little bit, stop walk watch, move a little bit, stop walk watch, then you look and you are like, if my calculations are good, I just be able to make my turn without hitting this car. Good 👍🏻
It doesn't matter what company he works for,he made a mistake, but at least he didn't panik and tear up anything, that's all the matters....

Trucks are no where near their radar unfortunately
almost none of the highways in nyc allow bus or trucks. =(
@@steezy7460 Careful. Next they will create a congestion tax to slap on all 53 foot (or longer) trailers.
Remember when New York city was founded. The roads were only designed for horses🤣
now for bicycles
This guy is blessed to have been helped to this extent, would’ve been extremely embarrassing and unfortunate having to go through it alone
I worked for this company they will send you right into NYC no second thoughts not safe and its all about the dispatchers pushing for any loads they can get
should of called a tow truck and moved the Montero out the way.
armani papi on who's expense ? Probably his days pay
Eagle Eye - Not the owner’s expense, NYPD has their own tow trucks running around. Don’t know if the officer did this, but running the plate to contact the owner would also have been an option.
I say rip the Montero up

Must be a very small truck if it can travel in the veins
Ha ha ha! That's 😂 funny. I've been a trucker for 26 years. It's all I've ever done. Trucking is more of a way of life than it is a job. If it's in your blood there ain't nothing ya can do about it. You sir have the soul of a trucker.👍👍👍
Javan thanks you get the joke i was expecting a comment that the truck be to expensive and not suitable for route.A non runner.
DOT will issue a heavy fine for the operator. It was outstanding how all his fellow truckers came to his assistant.
"TRUCKS ON EXPRESSWAYS ONLY....NOT PARKWAYS!" As a seasoned vet I can't get the image of those signs out of my head when I'm near new York city....but it helps!
Plain n simple
poor dude. i don't think he will accept any new york dispatch again.
that's a stressful and embarrassing situation
Yup lol, specially when the clocks ticking and people start filming you
Love how people assume we have all the answers for the places we've never been.

Right it's all about the load
Dispatch can wait. 1st thing is get out of this mess. You can't screw around with them, because you'll get in deeper trouble, not focusing on what's going on in front of you
My biggest criticism is that the trucker was using a GPS designed for 4-wheelers. They DO make GPS’s designed specifically for trucks.
First of all. TRUCK GPS WILL SEND YOU TOWARDS LOW BRIDGES AND CLEARANCE JUST LIKE A CAR ONE WILL.
second, A BADGE DOESNT MAKE YOU SMART NOR DOES IT MAKE YOU A TRUCK DRIVER
wavyheat305 right.. cops always wanna save the day.
wavyheat305 , truck Gps don't send you to low Bridges if you do the settings properly, I mean the length, high and weight.
Soraya Martin legally they're supposed to, no? Who would you want helping you out of a tight situation? A trucker with 20 years experience or a cop?

Damn...did this guy forget he had 53ft. of trailer behind him? I never would've attempted that turn.
why is the cop directing the driver.? he ain't got no cdl.go write your tickets and let that man back up that truck.
Jd Kepler what I saw was a truck driver that thought he knew what he was doing. the cop looked like he had more experience than all of the truck drivers combined.
that cop was helping him,why you got to badmouth him? you a cop hater?
new York city cops are probably very experienced at helping truckers get out of tight spots!
Jd Kepler how do you know the cop has no CDL? Do you know him? Maybe he drives trucks for side work or used to drive.
Ray Weeks in some states cops actually do go through both cdl and dot training as to better understand both the law and the capabilities of trucks to better understand what we go through.not sure if new York is one of those states, but I think it was pretty nice of that cop to help that driver, why do people need to criticize everything.
Not going to point fingers, great team effort.
Frank Contreras they were both clueless. Not enough experience to be in the city like that. Not trying to be mean but they don't train these guys enough.

I agree. I just hope that the CRST driver dosent get fired for allowing unauthorized people to operate company equipment.

obviously CRST is a starter company, and that is probably a trucker with less experience far from a veteran. i bet when you was a new within ur first 3 months, you may have done a turn or 2 or more where you pulled into somewhere you shouldn't of.

He doesn't even know which way to turn the steering wheel while backing and they send him to NYC?
Ya know one with less than a year of experience should be allowed in the entire North East lol!
Jack Ptak that's CRST for you. All of those training companies do it.
Sterling Jones Ya 3 weeks training then they cut you loose but crs t did say ny was tough
yes. werner sent me to brooklyn my first week with werner and my trainer. they was rough as can be with me. it just toughened my skin in the end and made me a better driver. they thought it would break me, but it just toughened my skin.
dfgfdgf fsddsfdsff they didn't send you there to break you you see when you become a truck driver you're supposed to know everything you're like a glorified psychic LOL
Gotta hand it to the trucker driving that big sleeper with a 53' into such a big city.
This is why I got out. Trucking companies don't want to pay for experience. They rather hire drivers right out of school pay them shit, and send them out with 53 foot trailers to places you need big experience for. This is incredible.
Danny Soldano exactly right! These companies treat their good drivers like shit, then they wonder why this is the type of employee they end up with
Danny soldano how do u get experience by some one giving chance to get you don't born with it next when all the experience drivers retired or die off who will be there to drive the truck ppl learn and gain experiences as time goes by
Everyone's human and everyone makes mistakes.

Stay in school or take up a better trade, don’t throw your life away being a glorified steering wheel holder.

Frank Stein ur a fucking idiot
If it was possible, would sliding the rear axles back on the trailer to change the rear pivot point help to maneuver easier in this tight spot? Not a trucker here... just was wondering.
That would make it harder.
I've put myself in a situation like this before when I drove OTR. All I did was back out the same way I went in and went down some more blocks that allowed me to turn.
That's what I call team work !! I'm glad some folks was able to assist in this jam up....
that's why ill never follow gps.i trust it as far as I can throw it,it doesn't specify where trucks can and cant go,it doesn't always say whether its a 1 way street or not,and it doesn't clarify low bridges. in any of the 5 burroughs of new York city it is detrimental that a trucker knows exactly where they are at all times and exactly what routes they can and cant be on. the best way to go into the big apple is to call every time before you even go in there.that is one place you cannot afford to make a wrong turn in!
PC Miler my friend.
Not me.
Driver on shit list what is that?
If you had any tickets, a fender bender, log violation, late for appointments, really anything you did wrong, but not enough to be fired for.

I drove for CRST and trained there. I did my 10 month contract with a co driver. Left to go train at a community college truck driving school. I knew staying with crst I would have eventually lost my job. They do not train adequately. None whatsoever. The drive management see this plus saw it coming. They Dont help you at all.
