Idk why I keep watching reviews if I already bought the damn computer 😩
Lmfao just making sure huh? Same here
Me too. What’s going on?
Lmao I do this with like everything I buy😂😂
Same 💀
same here
No UA-camr ever talk about MS Office, Browser etc (*In general) use case. I mean a lot of user (Including Me) not going to edit video or make music production. I would love to watch review video where they talk more about real life performance with apps like MS Office, Chrome multiple tabs open and more. Because for general users, I believe it's not really important that how good it is for video or music production. The more important aspect is how well a machine gonna perform in every day situation, daily basis. This is just a thought of an average user like me.
That's because Mac is good for video and music editing. If your daily job is MS office and web browsing there is really no necessity in spending tons of money on MS Office.
I totally agree, I’m looking to buy the MacBook Air as a student and would love to see a video where they dissect it in the perspective of a student or a basic user. All videos that I have seen focus on the video and photo editing ability of the Mac, which as a student I don’t really care for. Do you guys recommend that I get the air or the pro (as a basic user and student)?
Yes bro u right.... Iwas planning to buy macbook but even after watching 100 videos.. Still i am confused. Bcoz everyone is reviewing about video editing.. But why they dont understand that everyone is not a utuber... I want it for coding and programming but i am unable to decide which to buy after all it is costly....
Ghalia Alsarhan it depends on your major! But unless you do editing and u need speed. The air should be fine !
Akash Pandey for coding and programming the pro is a better option in my opinion .
who else went straight down to the comments?
have a good day everybody!
Thanks you too!
The Everyday Dad 😀
as long as you use it lightly, you're fine. and i mean LIGHT. a friend of mine who's a mac specialist he found that common issues shared across the 2018-2020 MBA that's overheating the CPU due to inefficient heat flow and thus introducing some weird click sound after longer period. he added a copper shim between the heatsink, cpu and thermal pad. it did helped a little, but it's not a permanent solution for a bad internal design. as an electronic engineer myself, i just don't understand what apple engineers are thinking when they opted for thermal pad instead of thermal paste when the conductivity for both are wayyy different. (A MBP2014 13" user)
yes true. it can still run heavy stuff like FCPx and Illustrator etc, but it isn't intended to do that and it's internal design and its poor cooling mechanisms proved that. doing that many times could leads to logic board failure (common issue on macbook 12 2015-2017 that has quite odd thermal system, and it looks like the new MBA 2018-20 is inheriting the same thermal problems)
They was thinking about the $$$. More heat -> less lifespan -> more new laptop sold
I was today years old when I learned that the every day dads name is Gary 😳
Ops hahaha hi Gary hahaha
😂😂😂
I’m getting the MacBook Air 2020 space grey 512gbs i5 I’ve currently got the MacBook Air 2017
I’m a teacher, so I ordered base i3 with 16gb ram with base storage , I might do a few video edits but it would be once in a while..mostly office internet usage for me.
How is it going? Are you having any problems with it getting too hot? I am considering buying the same configuration
Macbook pro 13" is good for that
I bought the same one. There are no issues related to it heating up like everyone was saying.
I'm a writer and blogger and review a lot of books as well as writing my own.I have only had an iPad 2. How does Pages compare to Word? is i3 or i5 better for my use and what RAM and memory
Bought the base i3 model about a month and a half ago. I have adored it. It’s been great for typing up essays for class, and I can even play some WoW on it at a solid frame rate, which really surprised me. It gets a little warm sometimes when I’m watching UA-cam with a lot of background tabs open, but overall it’s my favorite laptop I’ve ever owned.
Nice! I'm glad it works out for you!
Is it ok for watching netflix for a few hours?
Tim Lyons Of course!
Yeah i bought mine 2 weeks ago and i have used it for essay writing, youtube, netflix and spotify. It works absolutely fine, the thermal performance is improved a lot if you use safari and/ or turbo boost switcher ( the switcher is nice but not necessary)
ive been searching for reviews like this to comfort myself lmaoo
Great review. You mentioned some unique points of view on your review. A few below:
1) The base model - upgraded CPUs don't make sense due to the chassis and resulting inherent cooling issues
2) Why get more storage, you are not using it for the video editing etc... due to number 1)
2:25 "Maybe there's some kinda secret sauce that stops the entropy of the universe" LOL idk why but I find that line hilarious 😂 btw awesome review! Loved every second of it!
When he said, “fight me.” I felt that
me watching this while still using my 2015 MacBook pro with the "old" magic keyboard, sd card slots, USB ports, and two fans connected to the heat pump: "So you're telling me... after 5 years, apple made the thermals worse, and "upgraded" (switched in reality) their keyboard to the older magic keyboard but named it "new"."
Cool cool cool, sometimes it's not necessary buying new and using what already works. 2015 was the last great year of innovation for apple before everything went down hill.
you're severely underrated my guy. love your reviews, thank you!!
"Bro, have you seen my "About this Mac?"
*New status symbol to show off those specs*
I am super impressed with my i5 model of the MBA 2020 its not too bad on Final Cut Pro and keeps up with 1080p well, it can even do a bit of 4k.
Great videos by the way. they are really useful.
Does it slow down and heat up badly?
Does it cause a problem on online connections like zoom?
Chiara Lionel Salim I only find that it heats up while rendering and sometimes when adding effects. But it seems to sort itself out if you restart Final Cut Pro.
Sivaki sivaki it’s absolutely fine on zoom and the fans don’t turn on when your online at all.
Good to know! 8 or 16GB
I wish the touch bar was just an option for all MacBooks... I want thew air for its i5 intel capabilities and stuff, but I also really want the touch bar and four thunderbolts 3 ports.
Do you get AppleCare for your tech and do you recommend getting it?
Thanks to your videos, I bought the 2020 MPB with upgraded Ram. Great videos and so informative. Thanks!
I've been watching a bunch of your videos, you have a really good content, you got yourself a new subscriber! Keep it up!
I am one of the few who loves the Touch Bar and use it daily ☺️
As a university student that frequently works with a ton of tabs open, would you still recommend it? After what I heard concerning the heat issues on the i5, I decided that it might be better going with the i3 (maybe adding the 16GB ram?). Or should I save a bit more and go with the MBP base version, just to be sure?
I have the MBA i3 with 8gb ram and it works pretty well will several tabs open. It can get hot overtime but it is not an issue and you cant even hear the fan. If you are on a budget then go for the base model (which I also have) otherwise go for the pro. I dont think the quad core i5 will do anything differently. It may be a little bit smoother but trust me you cant even see the difference. An advice I would give would be to use safari instead of chrome. I've noticed that using chrome tends to make the cpu hotter. Just simple stuff on chrome like watching a youtube video or listening to music and the cpu would start to get a little bit hot.
Great review. Do the fans ever get loud? I write novels and blog as well as use a computer for general internet use/UA-cam (watching videos). I managed my UA-cam channel from my ipad 2. And wrote novels on it. I also get through a lot of ebooks. Would 16gb, i5 be the best option? or 8gb i5? How would you rate i3 for my use?
I agree the only thing keep me from upgrading is the thermal issue. I want my macbook air to last a long time and i think thermal is the issue for that
How hot does it get when watching Netflix, thats all this will be for me. A thin, nice looking netflix machine. Can I use it on my lap as that's what I intend to do. Would be nice to know before I waste a lot of money, thanks!
I have the i3 MBA 2020, and no it doesn't get hot but it can get warm a bit after a few episodes of Netflix. Furthermore, it is a beautiful machine for light use, so no video editing powerhouse. For the rest of the tasks, documentation, Netflix or browsing it is perfect.
*hey great video, love watching your videos bro*
*Im content with my macbook 16 though*
Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoy what you have 👍
Thanks to you. My decision is to order a macbook air Base model with a Upgrade to i5. I dont need a pro for office things and your Videos helped me a lot. Much greetings from germany :)
Would you recommend upgrading to the i5 from the base air specially with education pricing pretty much for free upgrading? Also is upgrading the ram going to help... I plan on using it for nursing school and hopefully learn to put videos together for the family. Or should i just go straight to the base pro? Thanks for the great content.👌👍
Get the base pro
The most important aspect for me getting this is reliability for very important office work. Heck my mid 2013 macbook air 11 inch is still alive and well. It has survived 2 desktops and 1 gaming laptop and now partners with my helios 300, albeit the other one is for power use.
Great video. Do you think if I use it just for GarageBand will it overheat? I'm looking for the i5
The next MKBHD??, this guy is super awesome, i cant believe i found such a great you tuber... What a time to be alive :)
Honestly, this is the worst investment after a year, I made in the Apple ecosystem, I bought MacBook Air 2019, new model, 16GB and 1Tb hard drive.
Issues are:
First, fan quick off after 3 minutes watch UA-cam, you can bake eggs on the machine,
Second, Bottom Screen gets so much dirt each day,
Then, "Mail" Slipscreen jump whenever you watch movies...
More, Keyboard....so far, not much to talk about...sure more issues...
I would not recommend it.
I contacted Apple and raised few cases, having extended warranty. well...no luck...Mail its a general issue. The fan is bad design, and Screen, well, wipe it every day... the second job really...so annoying...new job title: Apple Screen cleaner
best review ever!
You have awesome videos and this one of my favorite channels! Cant wait for the next one!!!
Hey! Great video as always. I'm an incoming first-year medical student, and I was wondering whether to get this or the base model MacBook Pro. I do some photo editing and light video editing on the side. Hoping to hear from you!
If you have any plans at all for photo/video work I would go with the MacBook Pro 👍
I would agree with The Everyday Dad. Even other youtubers like Max Tech recommends the MBA for light use like browsing and basic typing. With that ‘occasional’ activity (perhaps your passion), you’ll end up sacrificing it if you can’t exchange the MBA once you have it. So spend those extra dime for the base Macbook Pro.
Awesome video! Let me ask you something, did you recommend upgrade to i5 or you think that it’s no so important?
I wouldn’t I got it and it doesn’t do much because of the build of the MBA
I just got this, and I've been seeing some not-so favorable reviews after I bought it. So, this is a breath of fresh air.
People talk too much. I’ve also bought one and there no issues with it. I cannot understand why everyone was talking so bad things about it.
Marivan de Souza same here! I was so scared but the base model is actually perfect for my student needs
@@andreacarbajal6928 hi! im going to uni and would like to ask is the 8GB RAM enough for you?
salman dualeh hey! I’m in college too and it’s perfect for my needs. I use both chrome and safari and it doesn’t slow down at all. I also use zoom (up to 2 hours, sometimes 3) and I find no cooling, fan, or slowness. I also use zoom with chrome or safari open (2-4 tabs) and also have an app open called notion to take notes and I find no slowness at all or fans. I’d say if you’re not looking for photo/ video editing then 8 is perfect. I have the i3, 8 ram, and 256 SSD storage.
love your objective reviews
I just ordered it and it’s coming on my birthday in July 30th
i frankly dont see what is so special about the Magic Keyboard - i have several of them, inculding the Magic Keyboard for the ipad pro. I fact, i like the butterfly keyboard on the 2019 Macbook Air better.
My MBA with i7 is working amazingly good, only hope it'll keep working this good for long enough.
My 2011 MBA 13" just died. I was actually editing simple IG vids on imovie and while rendering took longer, it did render. I am upgrading to the 2020 to the i5 MBA.
Gary, please could you help me. I have a MB Air mid 2012 as my go to every day computer It’s a 1,8 GHz dual core 8GB Ram machine. You know the old ones with great keyboard , glowing apple logo and sad card slot. After 8 years of great service - not a single failure- I think I should buy a new one. The iPad Pro 2020 is on its way, but I want a laptop as well. I’m a teacher an use it for school stuff. Mainly office. and home schooling. I DON’T do video or foto editing... just office, internet , Netflix, UA-cam...
what should I buy? MB Air 2020? Or MB pro 2020? My budget limit would be the MB pro with 4 USB 3 connectors. In standard config. Due to being a teacher I get a little discount. Just forget. I do the system administration in our school. And use it for the iPad class. Thank you so much for the information on your channel. Looking forward to hearing from you stay healthy. Greetings from Germany. Thom
I’m confused between base MacBook Air and base MacBook Pro and I’m worried and thermal issues. I’m a student so my use case is google docs, slides, watching UA-cam and sometimes switch to windows via bootcamp thank for answering.
I think the issue on fan is just because they need it to make thinner. And force us to buy the pro if we want good thermals. It should be fine for other task except gaming and video editing
Love ya Everyday Dad! Liked this video but I am going to get a base model Macbook Pro 13 in July with Back to School thing on Apple! I need those free Beats!
If I were going to be doing serious work I would also get the MacBook Pro, it’s the better machine if you want to do more then just type.
I am just kinda confused about the storage. Hope 256 gb will be enough! Can't afford more.
Do you get free beats with the iPad Pro's as well? or just Macbooks?
Sketchy_20 You get it with iPads as well. Check out Apple’s website for the back to school promotion!
Nice review💯👍🏻👍🏻
So is this good for college students? The basic model
Enjoying your videos so far - good work!
Thanks so much!
You made mention of those looking to switch from Windows to an iPad probably having a difficult transition. I ordered an iPad Pro as my first mac(like) device yesterday but now feel like I should have ordered the MBP 13..
I meant more from trying to go from a full file system to and iPad file system. iPads are super easy to use but it’s tricky to work your way around their files at first.
@ShoAndTech: brother I recently moved from 4th Gen i5 system to iPad Air 3rd gen. This thing flies! And the touch interface is something else! I myself am considering going for an iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard as my main portable computer.
Don't second guess your iPad Pro purchase. You will find yourself appreciating the little things that Apple does really well. For example, apps run a million times better on iPad OS than they ever did on Android/Windows.
You might consider using a keyboard and mouse (the iPad allows the same) to make your transition smoother.
I am using 4 th generation i5 dual core processor and I am planning to shift to macbook air should I purchase ?. My daily tasks are moderate programming and web development and lots of web browsing
Does the cooling system apply to the Macbook Pro 13 inch "Base Model" as well or do I need to upgrade to the higher CPU Model ?
At that point going for the Macbook Pro 13 would be a better choice ,right ?
How many GB you recommend me I want to buy one For studies like office work an md little bit or editing but not to much
Great review, nicely done 👍🏼
Would you recommend this to a remote front desk office who receives calls and cater calls from an online calling platform?
Would you recommend to a nursing student? Looking to keep it for AT LEAST 4 years
I've never had a MacBook and I am very pleased with my MacBook Air 2020 8GB RAM quad-core i5 🙂. I don't mind the fan noise because I always connect it to my AirPods Pro with ANC turn on and I'm good to go.
I would have only paid for the base model myself if my best friend didn’t give me his employee discount so I upgraded to i5 chip and still paid less than base price. Just going to use for everyday activities though so hopefully no issues. 1st MacBook so if I like it maybe I save for the 16”
The Air's chassis is just beautiful.
Hi, thanks for making this video. I have been debating an upgrade to my MBP mid 2012. It's been overheating. I've created as much space as I can on the machine. lol. I think the MBA 2020 i5 512 SSD will be perfect for me. I do not do any video editing or recording. The most I'll do is use Garageband and I can still do that on my MBP 2012. I'll be using it mostly for writing and maybe some spreadsheets and should anything happen to the MBP then I can transfer ALL my files to the new one and not worry about space. I will probably use it to watch Netflix etc. After watching your videos, I think the MBA suits me better since I'm not into video editing and any gaming I do is on my Xbox or my IPAD. And well the Sims are online. lol.
Only thing I like about my air is the slimmer chassis, it cuts less in the hands when typing. But for everyday video editing and run a UA-cam channel, Ill take the pro
would you then recommend not upping the ram to 16gb (my 2014 macbook air is out of ram hence why i am looking at upping the base ram)
I get my Space Grey MacBook Pro with 16GB Of Ram tomorrow (May 28th) 🤟🏾
VNY D Mine is coming in on the 29th, replacing my air
Love your videos! Keep’em coming 😎
Thanks so much!
I had to buy the base version because it was the only one available and i love it 🥰
great video GARY
I can’t decide it if should get the MBA ( i5 + 16GB ) or the base model pro for 4 years of college (not doing intensive tasks)
valar morghulis I’m doing physical therapy actually! Thanks for the tip!
@@tawhidaluvsu that's really good to hear! I'm going to be a bio major then do nursing. I wasn't sure of the type of computer I would need so I'm considering the base model MBA. The only thing is I may be having lots of classes online so I'm not sure how it will hold up.
valar morghulis thank you so much for your experience I’m deciding between the MBA and pro but I’m debating will the air be able to run zoom and handle multi tasking. Made my decision easier!! Also should I upgrade RAM or the CPU?
Edwin Gonzalez hey! I have the mba base model (i3) and I run zoom with no problems, if anything low fans but it’s not noticeable or bothersome. I even have tabs open on safari and use safari while on zoom and it handles it perfectly (no slowness, very minor fans).
@@tawhidaluvsu thank you so much!! I really appreciate the help
Superman dad!! So proud of seeing the channel growing so much my friend.
Thanks so much Emilio!
Does your macbook air overheat when connecting to an external monitor? Is it 4K?
Been waiting for this video
Nice! Hope it was worth the wait.
@@TheEverydayDad still having hard time deciding between air and pro
I am looking to buy a MacBook for uni. It will be used primarily for word processing, web browsing and Netflix with occasional gaming ( sims ) and photo editing. Should I get the 2020 air (i5 with 8GB RAM) or 2020 base model 13’’ MacBook Pro? Any suggestions would be massively appreciated.
Any idea when the 13" 2021 will come out?
Thanks to him I just ordered a base model MacBook Pro 13” and upped the ram to 16gb and storage to 512gb
Nice! The MacBook Pro is definitely the better machine.
I actually just ordered an MBP 13" with 16gb of ram last night too
Alex Garcia mine’s arriving in like 2 weeks haha
MrGheller exactly
MrGheller it’s only 3-6% faster plus I saved about 200 bucks :)) i mainly work with 1080p footage in college hardly ever 4k 10-bit footage so its more than good enough for me!
People rushing to be first in the comments section. Congratulations Everyday Dad, you have groupies.
Ha! 🤣
Great review 👍 thank you and I absolutely love the shirt
‘Let’s find out! ....Smash! 😂
Any reviews other than Apple?
I recently bought a macbook air with 256 gb will tht be enough?🥺 can anyone answer me , with their reviews and opinions? Thank you!
Hi i wanna Ask about some thing , can use the 8g ram to edit my videos and photos ? Becuse i can't get the 16g ram with sorry ☹️
Which model would you recommend for web development?
Would recommend the Macbook Pro 13 over this by far, the cooling is just better and leads to less performance throttling
Would I be okay with this for using office apps for school and watching Netflix and UA-cam?
Yeah that would work fine 👍
Thanks, is it worth the extra 100 for the i5?
Edward Arnold yes
And if you’re a student go to the Apple education store
You’ll get $100 off the MBA and then upgrading to the i5 is $100 so basically you get a i5 for the price of a i3
I was about to get the i5 but I got a MacBook Pro instead
@@edwardarnold4981 I would not go for the i5. As the video mentions, the thermal cooling on the macbook air line does not adequately cool an i5, it'll be a waste of $100 in my opinion.
@@leejohnh22 Okay thankyou, think i am going to go for the base model macbook pro now.
What about light photoshop or lightroom usage once every now and then for social media!?
Social media does not require high res photos. You should be fine.
Is this laptop a good oone for programers?
Nah is not good
Listen, I am a HUGE fan. I walk into an Apple store and usually come out with nothing.....because I already own it. That said, they have made some crazy missteps (see buttonless shuffle) and this laptop is one of them. The thermal design alone is THE deal breaker. It should honestly be recalled and redesigned. should not be selling this.
I thought you were telling everyone to go out and buy a MacBook Air it was quiet and didn’t heat up that much. 🤷♂️ the Mac air is fine for me . Heaviest thing I have is Quicken. Lol
Is it worth upgrading the Macbook pro 2020 baseline from 8 gb ram to 16gb ram
Depends on your use case. For office work and general browsing 8 GB will be more than sufficient. You'll want more RAM if you're running multiple heavier programs at once -- if you're in this category, chances are you already know.
With that said, in terms of more easily selling this device later on if you choose to, it will sell faster with 16 GB..though you may or may not recover the $200 you invested.
In short, if you can comfortably afford it, go for it. If not, not a big deal for 90% of people.
@@leejohnh22 Thanks 👍🏻
John Lee to keep a laptop for the next 5 or 6 years, do you recommand getting the extra RAM ?
@@niouma4181 In short, yes I do if you plan on keeping the laptop that long as $200 spread across five years is not much.
What about heating problem?
iPhone se 2020 vs. Canon m50 video test? 🤪
Just asking, why do you own that many computers
Well I have one my work gave me, one I play games on, and I have the Apple computers to make videos about.
I have the 2019 air and its great
I still confused whether to go wit i5 or i3.. I worried about the fan noise and heat.. Can u enlighten me?
I5 100%
I wouldn’t pay for the i5 in this machine, I’d get the MacBook Pro at that point.
But are there any notable performance boost between 8th gen and 10 gen if I have to choose pro base model?
I haven’t directed compared the two against each other, but there are videos out there that have. I personally think the 8th gen is plenty powerful enough for most tasks. If you need more then what it has to offer you should already know exactly what kind of specs you need.
Thanks buddy.. I personally like all your vlogs! 😃
If a V8 engine is status symbol then an i7 is status symbol
But can i5 quad core model can do a video editing ?
I will be upgrading to i5 and 16gb ram
Can we upp the processor only
You can do whatever you want with your money, but if I were spending it I’d either get the base model or get the MacBook Pro.
Can someone tell me what is *daily* *tacks* ?
I wish I had a MacBook :(
since when did he start to review apple products? i thought he was a camera guy
I don’t understand how this is any better than a windows laptop at the same price. Windows laptops at this price point blow the macbook air out of the water. I doubt this thing can even run minecraft...
Is Penn Badgley your brother or something? :P Anyways, keep up the great content!!
Yep,..................
