Yes for a TEKKEN 2 video, please!
T2 was my first PS1 game together with the console for Christmas '97.
While Tekken 3 might've had the better improved gameplay, I still am VERY nostalgic for T2, which IMO still has the best storyline and soundtrack of any Tekken game so far, with TTT2 and T5(DR) being a close second / third.

We gotta give the Tekken team some credit for making this iconic fighting game franchise. It really shows that how much risk they’ve taken, and all the hardships that these team of developers had to go through just to make one game. I am glad that it all went so well at the end. Now that it’s became one of the best fighting games ever.

Tekken's Motion Designer was Masahiro Oniguchi and its Game Designer was Seichi Ishii. Prior to Tekken, Seichi Ishii worked on Virtua Fighter also as Game Designer.. So essentially they were scouted and picked by Namco from prior working at Sega
Seichi Ishii who would go on and start his own development studio: Dream Factory, and make 3D fighting games such as Tobal #1, Tobal 2, and Ehrgeiz, as well as the 3D beat em ups: The Bouncer, Crimson Tears, Appleseed EX, and Yoshitsune-Ki. He would than also go on and make the exclusive Kakuto Chojin 3D fighting game for the og XBox, and an unreleased arcade fighting game for Atomisware called KenJu).
Masahiro's Oniguchi would later on form a company called Anchor Inc, and would go on to work on such other fighting games like teaming up with Seichi Ishii once again to help make Tobal #1, then go onto making Fighters Destiny 1 & 2 on N64, Fighting Vipers 2, Toy Fighter in the arcades, WWE Raw 1 & 2, Pride FC 2003 and helping SEGA AM2 division make Virtua Fighter 4.
Masahiro's work would also be used for Battle of Yu Yu Hakusho 120% developed by Dimps for Banpresto for arcade/PS2 in 2006/2007, and his company would later work on Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening, Namco's Rise of the Incarnates and Bloostained.
He then would go on to make another company; Quad Arrow Future Links, and sell the same engine used for these fighting games as a sort of open source 3D Fighter Maker game on Steam called EF-12.
Masahiro had one unreleased 3D arcade fighting game called Force Five, which was in development using the Atomisware board after Virtua Fighter 3 Virtua Fighter 4, Tekken 3 and 4 etc, and it was made under his company Arrow Inc (which he opened in 1996) for Sammy Studios publisher but it never officially came out.and its assets were bought by another company called Atravita who did release it completely redone visually as a game called Jingu Storm.

I'll never forget how Tekken started...it was the early time of the Playstation- when people only cared about the graphics and were wowed by the gameplay. Me, I thought the game was ugly and boring. It wasn't worth my time. I had others tell me " Well it's an innovative game! Its a true 3D Fighter!" to which I reminded them about Virtua Fighter 2, Killer Instinct 1&2 and even Namco's own Soul Edge were much better games. It would take Tekken 3 to really grab my attention!

The first 3 Tekken were amazing, with each sequel improving and getting better and better even when we through it was not possible. Tekken 2 was a huge jump up in both gameplay and graphics. Somehow Namco done it again with Tekken 3 which was an even bigger improvement with the additon of side stepping and giving everyone a whole set of moves. Truly an amazing franchise. My personal is Tekken 2, the nostalgia with easily one of the best soundtracks in gaming history. Please cover the rest of the franchise 🙏

Man, I remember one day waiting for my turn in MK3 kind of turning around slowly to look to see this new cabinet in the arcade that I've been hearing in the background all day (the arcade in question is video'd, from 1993 though, on my channel somewhere). Not a lot of people were playing it at the time believe it or not (MK was still all the rage in my part of the country) but I remember thinking "this is the beginning of the end. everything is going to be 3d now".
I know virtua racing was well into its stride etc but I dunno, Tekken just kind of felt like the brunt of the trend. Like THIS IS IT, THIS IS WHAT GAMING WILL BE.
A different feeling than when I saw VF for the first time. This was more of a science project kind of thing. Like "Oh wow this is cool" but you know it still wasn't as good as Mortal Kombat (plus I think it was a dollar to play or something if I remember correctly. it was more expensive for sure).
Yeah Tekken was the beginning of the end for the Mortal Kombat era I think. The slippery slope to all things PS1 (Toshinden etc) and even bringing the arcade home (no need to flush out quarters, you got MK3 for free on the PS1 demo disc! haha).
Anyway good times and a GOAT soundtrack to this day.

Great history on the first Tekken. Alas, it's a series that no matter how often I give it a chance, it didn't seem to leave much of a positive impression on me. I never HATED Tekken, but Soul Blade-Calibur REALLY grabbed me as the Namco fighting series.

I never really got into the first two Tekken games. Tekken 3 is the one and only Tekken game that truly resonated with me. It never would have came to be if its granddaddy the original Tekken had never become popular. The influence of Virtua Fighter is painfully obvious, but I had no idea the degree of behind the scenes struggles went on during development. Tekken is therefore an underdog miracle franchise that could have easily been DOA

I think people forget how rough early 3D games were. Especially ones that want to Doom or Wolfenstein.
There's a reason Tekken one was an arcade hit and it's because it played pretty good for its time. You did have to get past a little jank but it was like that with the most games
People tend to look back at classic video games and only remember the absolute best of the best. So everybody remembers Zelda but nobody thinks about Roland's curse. Even though the latter was a perfectly serviceable game.

    • @apollosungod2819
      @apollosungod2819 2 роки тому +1

Roland's Curse was an abysmal abject FAILURE in terms of sales on THAT platform it was on...
Zelda is revered because of the hard work Nintendo in Japan and Nintendo of America's marketing staff did to make sure the game would be known and be accessible to gamers especially when you purchased a Nintendo Entertainment System and got the offer of two years monthly subscription for the price of one year for the official Nintendo Power Magazine since 1988 and onwards...
Meanwhile SEGA here in the U.S. is NOT revered and is instead seen as a quagmire due to the insurrectionist actions of Sega of America's staff who didn't bother to do the same effort that Nintendo of America staff did...
Basically Sega of America's staff attempted to dictate what the "Genesis" was by refusing to use the "MegaDrive" name and then they eventually started to block many exclusive Japanese developed Sega MegaDrive game software... something that Nintendo of America did not do as they tried to actually do the work of translation of as much game software as they could handle even though their flaw was that they could have hired more people to translate more games they feared over saturating the game market with too many games like Atari did... also because of LJN and other shitty devs who pushed shovelware crap and could give any game system a bad reputation if they didn't play the real Japanese first party games or the games from talented devs like the old RARE... and others.

I didn't play any of the Tekken games for a while. Part of the reason is I rushed out to the arcades to play Virtua Fighter. I would love to see more Tekken. But only if you have a good relationship with those Tekken games. Because I like it when you are cracking jokes and giggling to yourself when talking about the backstories, especially the fighters coming from the wonderfully weird world of the Japanese fighting game disputants.
I wish there are a lot of stories and fun facts about the world of Tekken so that you can make more of the superb long play movies that focus on one fighter at a time.
I am just gonna say it, your best work is in the long play vids about the fighters in street fighter, imo😃🥰
BTW, I stopped playing fighting games 25 years ago, but your channel is still enjoyable for the nostalgia and for the content of "you".
Sorry about the bad sentence structure, I am a foreigner, so ...yeah😇.
    Cheers

I like Tekken (specifically Tekken 3) but i've definitely always preferred VF as a series. I always felt the games looked better, were better balanced, had more authentic moves and animations, and had more depth, they just feel better to play to me. VF 4 Evo is the greatest 3-D fighter of all time in my personal opinion.

I actually enjoyed the original Tekken back in 94/95 after that I simply didn't care for the sequels including the second game cuz it looked the same as the first one. To me the Tekken franchise didn't compare to the Capcom fighters including the X-Men children of the atom game, the SNK fighting games like Fatal Fury and King of Fighters because Tekkens 3d graphics didn't do it for me and Tekken 's music was too bland for me! Battle Arena Toshinden still had way better music than Tekken did! How Battle Arena Toshinden is forgotten and Tekken is still even relevant today is freaking crazy 🤣

The creators even admitted Tekken 1 was horribly balanced. It was also ugly, slow, and unoriginal.
Could somebody explain to me why they preferred it to Virtua Fighter 2?
I'm not hating on the franchise: it got good starting with Tekken 3, and I think Tekken 7 is better than Street Fighter 5 and as good as Virtua Fighter 5.

i take it back that when i told u dont know what ur talking about when it comes to tekken 1. i personaly however belive this that they made all if not most of tekken 1 moves with motion capture. if they didnt then they did from tekken 2 or tekken 3 onwards. motion capture is big thing for tekken . whang su ill 2 did motion capture for whaorang for example and some games credit pretty big motion capture teams. hope to see more tekken history videos in the future.
