      Joan and John Cusack are great people. My landlord met Joan at her house in Chicago. I ran into John twice at the Malibu Inn in California. He recognized my Chicago accent right away. Bought me and my wife a round of drinks just to let him know what was going on back in Chi-town. Humble, honest and real.

    School Of Rock is a work of genius. Not only is it a genuinely brilliant and comprehensive education in Rock & Roll, it's also utterly hilarious, perfectly cast and extremely well written. Mike White, Jack Black and Richard Linklater deserve so much credit for this film, but also the incredible kids that make up that class. When a film is so quotable like this you know its done its job and then some. There are countless favourite moments I have in this film, but one that always makes me cackle with laughter is the way Joan Cusack delivers "I've just been informed, all of your children are missing". (Also RIP to Kevin Clark who sadly passed away 2 years ago at just 32 years old.)

    This should be a class. When you think about it Jack black is the best teacher ever. He found rols for everyone. Something they loved, and souther were good at. At he let it grow and he encouraged them. When the little guy wanted to make the outfits, DO IT! You don't wanna be a roadie wanna be a manager? DO IT! wanna sing? DO IT! He never stopped encouraging these kids. He found what they liked and what they were good at and told them to be the best at it.

    RE: Crowd Dive - In the 70s, my wife (later, we weren't then) went to a Commodores concert at Six Flags Over Texas. Crowd diving was a brand new thing. The bassist put down his guitar and made a huge swan dive from the stage and in her words, "The crowd parted like the Red Sea" and he splatted. She said he eventually staggered back up and continued playing but had obviously getting his bell rung.
    My favorite part of this movie was the kids were musicians first and performed all their own music.

    In my opinion, this is one of THE most influential movies made in the 21st century. Before this film was released, most kids had no appreciation whatsoever for music that was made before they were born. School of Rock is single-handedly responsible for kids today listening to Zeppelin, AC/DC and the Stones.

    • @TTM9691
      @TTM9691 5 місяців тому +6

      That is absolutely ridiculous, every line of this comment. It's a great movie, but everything you just said is fiction fantasy. ESPECIALLY when you're talking about Zeppelin, AC/DC and (to a lesser extent) The Stones. Those bands have NEVER gone out of style, every generation discovers them, through a whole variety of avenues (first and foremost, their parents and their older brothers and sisters). In the 80s, those bands continued to be big, in the 90s same exact thing. Amy knew all the songs being referenced (even knew who Lemmy was), and had never seen the movie (although she had played Guitar Hero. Probably as much of an influence, if not more than this movie). I'm not saying the influence was negligible, but that's completely idiotic. I worked at the club they filmed the first scene of this movie (I was there), we had the real School Of Rock playing there, like, the next year, doing an all Zappa show.

    This movie is two hours of Jack Black teaching those kids (and people in general, including the viewer) to be confident in who they are and to pursue the things you're passionate about without worrying about getting approval from others. And you'll notice that he never hesitated to let the couple of kids that wanted to change their role in the band, to change their role in the band. For example, the one kid that wanted to be the band's stylist rather than be part of security; Dewey just said, with no absolutely zero hesitation, "Of course you can, Fancy Pants." No judgments, no weird looks, no questions about why that's what he wanted... he just let him do it.

    I watch this movie everytime I need a little boost of inspiration. Not just for playing music, but anytime I feel like what I'm doing seems unimportant. Is that thing about one great rock show can change the world, yk? I just love it.

    There is something so incredibly endearing about this film. I think it's the fact that the Jack Black's honest passion for music and rock just pours through every frame, and it just leans into the campy, comedic, Spinal Tap-esque comedy that's innate in such outsized passion while still reveling in it. That's such a delicate combination because if you lean into campy comedy too much it just makes a joke of the passion and music, but if you lean into the latter too hard you lose the comedy. In a way, the delicate balance it strikes is similar to the major theme in the film of finding the balance between living one's passion and how to survive in a world that will often beat you down for trying to live them. The film gives you a glimpse of how boring and empty life is when you abandon your passions completely, but also how low you can sink when ignore the rest of reality by blindly following them.
    Anyway, easily one of the best films about music ever made. I think I rank it only slightly behind Amadeus (and they're so different it's hard to compare them). Both speak to me because of my own passion for music; grew up with a dad who played drums to rock radio, and picked up guitar myself around 13 and started learning to play rock as well. I never made much of it, but I've never lost my passion for the music, even if I think I was always more of a "listener" than a "performer."

    This has been a go to movie of mine since I was a kid! So amazing to see the joy on your face seeing this for the first time! Loved the flowers you gave to Joan Cusack. She's such an incredible actress. If you've never seen Martian Child; you should definitely check it out! It has her and her brother John Cusack and its a beautifully captured, interesting and heartfelt movie!

    From what I heard Jack Black was very proud of this movie and it did pretty good in the box office so it really got what it deserved. This is such a great movie, it's fun and in many way educational about music. I had to add my favorite part is when they are playing Zack's song and Jack jumps in and does the guitar solo with his voice. and when you hear them preform the song at the end on the movie jack does the SAME solo he sings. it's so great.

    It would take far too many words to describe how music makes me feel, but it's the one thing that from the beginning has never let me down. You clearly understand that importance. I think that now more than ever we need to protect those who teach all manner of the arts. I don't think it's hyperbole to say that music and the freedom of expression will save us all in the end.

    I ❤school of rock!!! I remember watching it with my brother and sister, all 3 of us are all grown up but deep down we are still rockers and always will be! The making of or behind the scenes to this movie is really cool. The kids all actually play their instruments. Oh and they had reunion shows a while back. And 2 of the kids are married. Definitely in my top 10 popcorn movies to watch!!

    It was very sad to read the news of the death of Kevin Clark, who played the drummer. Just 32 years old, in a bicycle accident. Joey Gaydos Jr (Zack) also faced some serious problems, being arrested four times for stealing musical instruments to buy drugs. But that's it, every band has its problems and tragedies, but the music can't stop.

    Jack IS a great musician, mainly bc of the passion he puts in his music. When you're in the mood for some nonsensical comedy, you should try "Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny". That's Jack Black in his purest form.
