    AMMENDMENT: Salicylic acid is generally considered safe in pregnancy when applied topically in small amounts.. I would still advise people speak to professionals if they have any doubts at all or for additional advice.

    I wanted to share as someone with mature skin. Using an acid blend containing salicylic acid is the ONLY way I can keep my skin texture free. Without it, my "sluggish" skin that is slow to turn over dead skin cells, just lets them build up. I sometimes use TO Peeling Solution mask, but mostly the Good Molecules Overnight Exfoliating Treatment (nightly.) I won't ever be without it!❤️❤️

    Recently I'm really liking the new Cerave Acne Control Cleanser with 2% Salicylic Acid. It is stronger than The Inkey List and other Cerave SA cleansers, but it hasn't been drying or stripping for me. I like how it foams and lathers up a bit more, and it has some oil-controlling clay and other ingredients in it. It might be too strong for people with dry or sensitive skin, but I like it for my oily/acne-prone skin that can take a stronger cleanser.

    I use CeraVe 2% Wash on both my face & body. Daily, I wash my face with this to slightly lower the pH of my face before using my Timeless 20% VitC serum (suppose to help absorption of the VitC). On my body, I use it the day before & after shaving which has eliminated ingrown hairs for me. I used to use Paula's Choice after my VitC serum because 10 lactic acid was to harsh. But I've been using the Ordinary 5% Lactic Acid & love it. ❤

    Love salicylic acid! The Paula's Choice is a must to have on hand for days when I've had to wear a mask for long hours and my skin feels congested and gross. Best thing to do a cleanse and then apply the toner. The Geek and Gorgeous one sounds awesome! Thanks for another super informative video, Rob 😊💜

    I am a devoted fan of salicylic acid. My skin used to be oilier, but now in middle age has settled into normal, though still with pores that tend to become congested. BHA is a dream for clearing pores and removing dull, dead surface skin. I have ridiculously sensitive skin, rosacea, eczema, dermatitis, etc., and cannot get anywhere near an AHA. BHA actually soothes my annoyed skin due to its antiinflammatory properties. I use Paula's Choice Resist 2% liquid, use it only at night, and typically stick to once every few days. I find that to be plenty to accomplish the task, though it's not irritating, so I could use it daily, as I've built up to it over time. I mist my face with rosewater, apply my Hylamide Subq eye serum, then the BHA all over my face. In cold weather, I might add a lightweight moisturizer, but typically don't. After morning cleansing, my skin looks refreshed, and then I slather on SPF and head out. An absolute dream.

My sensitive skin, now I've repaired my compromised skin barrier, is loving SA. I'm controlling it well with a combination of Superdrugs amazing brand Me+ salicylic acid cleanser with ceramides- amazing! Great for sensitive skin.
    TIL PHA toner and TIL succinic acid blemish treatment. These are all now my holy grails.
    My cheeks, chin, t zone is the main offending area so I do slather/ smear TIL blemish treatment over this area thinly particularly when the blemishes are in full force. Literally I couldn't live without them. Non stripping, effective and reduce impact of PIH and PIE that I usually get.

    The Paula’s Choice BHA 2% salicylic acid has cured the 20 year battle I’ve had with acne on my chin!
    I use it morning & night and I put it straight on my chin and nose as a serum (don’t want to waste any on a cotton pad)
    Its works better than any topical acne prescription my Dr has ever given me. I rarely now ever have a spot and if I do it goes quickly without scaring (I top it up with the Ink List Succinic acid - thanks to your recommendation Rob) Its also minimising the blackheads on my nose and clearing the congestion on my chin. Its brilliant.
    The PC is pricy so I might try the FT or the G&G but I’ll keep some PC on standby in case it doesn’t work so well. I never want my chin acne to return.

    For my dry, sensitive adult skin with comedonal acne I've learned SA in cream/lotion form (f.ex Paula's choice body version or Cerave) twice a week will do the trick acne-wise without drying or sensitivity. No other treatments on those two nights to minimize the risk of sensitivity. I'm currently experimenting on whether I need any AHA at all in my routine as SA does offer surface exfoliation as well. So far it's starting to look like I don't -meaning I've been over exfoliating. I feel the current thinking of using multiple different exfoliators and/or exfoliating daily might be way too much for a lot of people.

  • @joxclever
    @joxclever 3 роки тому

    I don't generally reach for SA. Nothing against it, it doesn't hurt me, but I'm not blackhead or breakout prone, so I don't feel I need it. I do have KP but salicylic doesn't touch it (even 12%glycolic is struggling to scratch the surface, my skin is hard-core!)
    I do use the Inkey List succinic for the odd hormonal mega-pimple, and i believe the 0.5% SA is quite effective there (in tandem with the sulphur etc).

    Hi Rob even as someone with super dry, rosacea and eczema prone skin I benefit from using salicylic acid, but used in a very specific/targeted way. i use a lot of very rich creams, oils and balms to care for the severe dryness, but this can cause some occasional clogged pores in the nose/chin area. I rarely get "spots/pimples" due to being so dry and prior to all the mask wearing hardly ever had a "pimple". If I do get a pimple I use salicylic acid to treat it, only applied to the pimple itself over a few days. Even when I don't have a pimple I use it in the t zone once or twice a week (to prevent any clogging of the pores as stated). On my skin 2% is a bit much and I prefer the 1% paula's choice calm BHA. The 30ml travel size has lasted me months used in this way, making it affordable to use. The gel consistency means it's easy to place just where needed, a serum or toner is less easy to control I find. As I'm only using one pump once or twice a week, it's lasting at least six months for around £10 for the 30mls - making it really affordable for me. The formulation contains many soothing/hydrating ingredients to minimise any dryness and it's working for my skin. I use a 5% mandelic acid toner around the perimeter of the face and this BHA in the t zone, as my exfoliation routine. I use retinoids, azelaic acid and urea in my normal daily routine which do provide cell turnover and exfoliation benefits. This means the BHA is only needed once a week normally. Obviously this won't suit an oily/acne prone skin, but for my skin this is what is working. Best wishes.
