Has Livescope Ruined Swimbait Fishing And Made It Too Easy?

- Livescope and swimbaits pair together very well together but has it given too much of an advantage to anglers on the water? Has livescope ruined genuine swimbait fishing? Today, I break down my take on the most controversial piece of bass fishing technology to date when regarding using it for swimbait fishing. What are your thoughts on livescope?

To each their own! Personally, I’m an old school guy and really enjoy the hunt, past knowledge, current knowledge, reading the water, looking at map’s, studying a particular body of water before I fish it, and, putting together the puzzle and hopefully landing a giant! I just love the process!
agreed!!!
This ❤
I still use my 1972 Lowrance flasher for depth and structure, amazing how long the thing has lasted! 👍
Same here.
Thx for letting us hear your thoughts on this. I do respect each point of view regarding "fish just learn" but how can you explain the fact that people catch the same fish again and again at some specific spot using the same swimbaits - I was facing it in pike fishing. And at the same time the same fish was ignoring the baits at all time to time.
Hey Geoff!! Nice one!! I was fixin to get a live scope next season. Thanks for video man!
100% in agreement... Everything i have done in my life and what successes/ failures i have had(small or big) has been result of me.
Do it man.
To each their own I suppose. Whatever makes your time enjoyable on the water as an angler is all that matters to me
Still have to catch the fish. Using electronics no matter what it is will make it easy, but catching them is the hard part.
I hate to be that guy. But I say it all the time covid happen at the same time as live scope perfect storm unfortunately alot of places got picked clean. At least on the bright side these big companies that are just knocking everyone's baits are going to have to figure out if they don't start investing in some these fisheries, their going to start to making new age golfers. I couldn't even imagine being a kid trying to get into bank beating at the urban spots
Live 360 is probably the next step. Better definition and target separation. But eventually what will the difference be between going to fish your lake or the bass pro fish tank?
Most people always have to have something to bitch about, looking at you Randy. Either use live scope or don’t.
I just dont find live scope very appealing.
As far as live scope goes, it cant be good for the fish. Sure it open up a section of this fish population that were either difficult or impossible to catch in the past, but maybe thats a bad thing. The fish cant get any refugee from the fishermen anywhere in the lake.
I have AT1 and I can't see a damn thing in it. It's a fairly simple install so I dunno if I have a bad Transducer. Could be ducer height, I dunno. I do know I hate looking down more, I could sell it and not miss it currently. Once I figure it out it'll be a different story.
It will be a forever tool. I feel as if the “cone pressure” is mainly confirmation bias, guys seeing fish swim away from them when the boat is 50’ away… those fish were always leaving the spot. You blew the spot. Trying to fish with your cone on the fish on the spot is making guys forget about hiding the boat, fishing up hill, fishing across points, creating ambush moments in the cast, all things you intuitively did before now become overshadowed by the desire to fish in the cone and watch it all go down. Fishing suspended open water fish of course the scope is a major major advantage, it certainly is a huge player in a FEW situations over the course of a years season bass fishing but ultimately how often is that really what the key fish are doing. Some fishery’s they may do that more than others. Like OH Ivie, and of course giant fish in an exploitable position for new tech will be caught in numbers like never before- but that is awesome and no one was targeting or catching those open water fish before this tech. For me, it just makes fishing flat out more enjoyable. There’s no rule that says you have to abandon everything you love about fishing and stare at a screen. Use it harmoniously with what you love to do, get more information, try not to be overwhelmed by it and rather gain knowledge from it, and have fun on the water. Until people who hate on it get it and experience it for all it’s good and bad, they will never understand. I can say that because I’ve had that direct experience going from hating it to using it as a valuable tool. The best anglers are always going to be the fishiest ones who use their technology to their advantage and not let it become a crutch in their game. Sure if you want to be the best scoper around and fish in the abyss go do so. If that makes you happy. For me, I’ll combine it all to have the best day I can. For the masses, ffs is going to take most people 3 steps backwards before they can move forward.
Honestly I think the fish will associate the sound and pings or whatever ffs gives off with danger they will get conditioned just like trolling motors boat motors etc. o er time it will have an effect, the fish will have nowhere to go to get away they will always have pressure on them cause now you can follow them wherever they go unlike before when they swam away you just moved on now you track it down .i really don’t care one way or the other if people use it but your cheating yourself out of learning the technique of your baits and having to hunt them and convince them to hit your bait blindly .
I don't wanna argue with anyone about FFS, I don't care enough to! One question I ask myself is what good/positive could it have on our fisheries after more & more people have it? I can't think of any? Can anyone else, I'm open to suggestions...?
Nothing special about ffs it's shortcut for the people don't know how to fish
i just wanna try it so i can see a bass eat my glide on screen. or a massive flat headed catfish eat my bait.
I say yes.
At that point it’s called catching not fishing.
All the guys who fish I know and their mom have livescope. Many of them are bums and have no jobs...yet they have livescope!! 😅
Hopefully with livescope we will see a new world record
The fact that you put his face in the thumbnail. FFS is a problem and a bigger problem in tourneys
Without a doubt in the past few years, I’ve noticed that fish have become more shy when using this technology. Unfortunately my hand was forced to use one. I had to adopt it into my fishing style since without it I wouldn’t stand a chance fishing professionally. I’ve seen bass behaving more and more timid at closer ranges vs when I first got to use it in 2020. I’ve learned a ton about fish movement and behavior so there also are a ton of factors but based on what I’ve seen all over the country, it’s affecting the fisheries some way. I’d be curious to see scientific study done on the long term effects as well. Great video bro!
Forced hand? That's pure bs. There's a pro in the MLF that doesn't even use a depth finder.. you don't need love scope for your local derby. Saying you were forced into using it is such crap.
@@jurlinquist lol
Ben gonna come for that head if you calling him out lol
Ben ain't gonna do shit.
Chiropractors approve Livescope 👀🤠
It’s a tool but as far as professional tournaments, those guys are supposed to be pros. Should t they be using their experience and their wits to catch these fish?..
I think bass fishing Inc. is shooting themselves in the foot. The fishing is less interesting with some guy staring at a screen until he jerks and yells “Biggun!!!”
I like the old way of fishing when you had to put time in on a body of water with a 2D only sonar. Before electronic mapping was even available. I’d spend hours finding open water spots I could pretty much have to myself. Technology has made it too easy for everyone who can afford the outrageously priced stuff. Those aliens you spoke of must be gay.
ive been using scope for over a year i live in valley of cali fortunate to fish some of the best swimbait lakes i can tell you most part its still timing especially fishing soft baits like hudds but glide baits will pull a fish on scope a lot easier. I love scope not for catching but being able to read the fish behavior you are able to learn from it and see how certain active fish pattern my biggest fish of the year have been when scopes turned off but i learned where those fish are and how they setup in my lakes.
My biggest problem with it is bucket fishermen on smaller bodies of water. In my state no size or bag limits on panfish which I love but this going to bring more regulation because I believe most people are not good stewards of their Lakes take more and they can eat and leave stringers tied to the docks because they don't want to clean all their catch.
To expensive.
I thought the same thing about fish and alien abductions 😂😂😂
I myself include guys that works shit ton and get to only fish for few hours a day /week, l could see live scope being as a very useful tool to maximize the given time on the water instead of wasting time making blind casts hoping to run into one.
That thumbnail!!! 🤣🤣😆😆
It's the same with the "junk fishing" technique. In the 90's junk fishing was also called Trash Fishing. And calling someone a junk fisherman back then was an insult. So it faded away.
With Livescope, "Junk Fishing" is the most popular technique today.
Using livescope definitely made big swimbait fishing easier. So there's probably a correlation between an uptick in big bait sales and Livescope.
The biggest companies involved in professional Bass Fishing also benefit from Livescope because it allows more people to participate. So there's definitely a correlation between Junk fishing and more professionals using the junk fishing approach.
It definitely takes less talent and experience to be successful using FFS.
If you pay attention to some of Ben's videos. He shows/tells you exactly how he sets up everything when on the water ❤
The fish are going to run back on the bank! Lol😂 Great analogy Geoffrey. I was thinking the same exact thing! Im lucky to have alot of small ponds and lakes in central Massachusetts that aren't condusive to big bass boats, and I fish alot of small backwaters boats can't get in but I agree 💯% they're screwing up the fishing.I guess Ill continue to do my thing out of the yak.
I'm for all legal things that get people outdoors and enjoy life. We've seen so many new technologies develop and harmful effects on fisheries from hurricanes, flooding, contamination, over fishing, livewells, Asian Carp invasion and aquatic vegetation invasion, mussels, and more. Our abilities to assist in remediation are wonderful. Let us all enjoy the great outdoors and trust that things are going to be fine. I like people having a good time outdoors and learning that it's fun opposed to all the negative things that they would do in this world today.
I never really respect any so-call pro or bass fisherman who used live scope, they're no different from weight lifter or body builder who used steroids. An example is pro or bass fisherman who used live scope is like beauty pageant; the women who so--call competing for their beauty yet they wear make-up? wtf?! how the hell we know you're beautiful with all those make-up covering your face lol. so in relation to fishing is how the hell i know you so-call a good at fisherman when you relaying on technology telling you exactly where to fish lol ... that's not skill lol. this is why i never watch any pro fish or go fishing with any fishing buddy who used live scope at all.
i used to have a buddy who owned a nice boat that is loaded with those lazy technology. some of my other buddy invite him to fish with us one time and that who trip he couldn't catch one fish f**king lame .... it seem the guy just went blind without live scope lol. because he train himself to solely rely on live scope or something lol
I have a tattoo depicting your abduction analogy done by @DrewLR. I've had that same thought for years now. Too funny.
I also believe that more state record fish will be caught using live scope I really hope in every state that fish & game would not count a state record fish if it was caught using live scope..I don't know how they would enforce that but it's just my opinion
Yes its a tool, but unfortunately a majority rely on it and cant go out on the water w.o it. Videos are rapidly becoming juat videos of some subpar bass fisher staring at a screen.
Live scope is cheating, it’s killing all our fisheries. In about ten years these fish won’t bite anything at all even with live scope putting it right in front of them. All our lakes that used to be and still are insane fishing are going to turn into Lake Biwa. Detrimental to our fisheries for sure, im a livescope hater.
Its not for me I barely use side scan water temp and depth about all I use have the side scan just not into watching tv when Im fishing Cheers!! :))
Live scope is fine but no one is going to respect you
Yeah your right because no one respects, Jacob wheeler, or kvd, or gussy, or all those guys
@@jordonpratt2604 they really don’t lol all those guys you mention are sell out who sell you Chinese baits
@@aiiwun so you hate professional bass fishing then?? Gtfooh, there isn’t a person on the tour that isn’t sponsored , so I guess you hate all of them
@@jordonpratt2604 everyone is expressing problems with tournaments. Guys like me want to expose those problems so we can be better.
Livescope removes the skill to find fish and just makes average Joe's look like pros because they can see the fish and what they do just by knowing how to read a screen
I prefer fishing 2D sonar. I rather find way points and fish. When I started fishing we had papers graphs depths finders.
During covid, a local lake in my area (electric motor only) 2 boats who had FF units, would always fish in the same area for months.
Close to an area where I would fish my 68 Huddlestons. I went fishing in that area a month or so later. There was a change to all the fish in this area. I turned on my unit on all the fish had left this area. I put my unit on grey scale. So I drifted for a 45-minutes. Turned my motor off.
The fish had move onto an old submerged road bed. I was using a drift sock. 10 cast 4 Bass. 2lbs to 3lbs where caught.
I kept going back to my old area the Bass have not returned yet.
If I could afford a unit I wouldn't purchase one.
I really don't watch the classic anymore. Now it's the jerk who is catching the fish no talent.
It's the grind of swimbaits fishing that is the sport.
Tight lines all🎣☮️😎
It would be cool if you did a video of you presenting your theory to some marine biologists and have them break it down scientifically. I listen to Fish University podcast from Mississippi State University. They'd be a great candidate to talk to.
As far as livescope goes, i think it comes down to personal ethics and goals. As a hunter, both for trophy Largemouth and big bucks, my goal is to be a better fisherman/woodsman. I want to utilize my natural abilities(instincts) to capitalize on big fish/deer. I can utilize a few tools here and there to point me in the direction, but being able to make those quick instinctual adjustments is personally more rewarding. At the end of the day for me, if my electronics stop working i still want to be able to get it done. I personally think that's what marks a true trophy LMB fisherman.
Just wait until I start using FFS with live gold fish. I’m starting the new hottest trend.
Next it'll be AquaVu Scope. Straight realtime feed from an underwater camera that has nightvision capabilities, for all lighting conditions.
Personally I have seen it and understand the fun in it, but in my case I don’t need electronics worth more than my tin rig. Lol
I understand what everybody says about the negative effects. I would definitely get one if I had a boat.
Oh, man you tweaked my conscience ....is it cruel what we do...?.... and then I think of square bill fishing with my Shimano SLX DC 70 HG on my G. Loomis IMX........ and .....well .....GREAT piece....lot's of very good, deep thoughts, observations, and questions!
Livescope is fine for everything BUT tournament fishing.
Can u plz make a vid showing all the swim baits u own and your favs
Ditto 100% Steven’s comment below!!!!
I still have so many skunk trips with scope. What I've learned is that bass will eat swims when they want...they'll eat conventional in a much larger window.
👍
So if you throw a Texas rig or a jig vs a glide bait? You catch more fish
@@Fishingmissions827not exactly more fish but if I do find a real big one, they're more likely to eat conventional than a swim most of the time.
Also to me if someone is using it for feeding their family I’m all in.
Great stuff dude! Interesting points that make sense.
i think the problem is that the big breeders will be fished much more and it can't be good. in france you can really see the difference on zander fishing. some guys are now catching much more big ones than before. and for zander which is fished a lot with sonars they can shut down just with a normal sonar so i can imagine it will be the same with livescope. btw on the fishing club channel they did an episode about it saying that usually they were not using the electric motor buth the thermic one which was working better sometimes so maybe it covers the sound of the sonar.
i'm a bit like you i'm much more interested by the side scan to understand how the spots are and for vertical fishing a normal sonar is enough.
Go ahead and get it 👍
IMO livescope is too far.
Ive never even used sonar in my life. Lol seriously
I’m not for it. Plain and simple.
When are you getting a scope bro
I’d use it if I could.
Still haven’t seen a fish hit the Swimbait. I see tons of marks which gets your hopes up…..adds a bit more fun to another day of hauling water
It can be extended to all fishing. My biggest thing I always question is would those fish have been caught without it? Especially those guides with tons of DD's in TX getting several DD's a week. Sorta lame
Comment #2 as far fish being scared of the beam I haven’t seen that but it shows me how many Bass follow your lure 5 feet away from the boat which gives you confidence or change lure to catch those followers
One of the DNR officers in my area said it's not the fishermen's fault.....they didn't create Livescope or any of the other live imaging sonars. The manufacturers should have taken into consideration how their technology would impact all aspects of fishing. Love it or not....he thinks the only ways to decrease issues: ban the use of live imaging technology or limit the size and the amount of fishes or basically having certain areas of a body of water be off limits for anglers.
For what they cost, you would probably be better off just paying $100.00 per cast to someone who works @ Bass Pro to fish their tank...😂
Geoffrey The King- brilliant video. 😮The aliens only attempt to abscond with your prototype swimbaits They also have been known to eat the last of the chips from lunch 😂
if you have to stare at a screen the whole time while being outside, that should tell you enough whether it's good or bad
Me sitting watching livescope drama as a bank/kayak angler whos never used any scope lol.
Personally, I think it has made it easier for some to catch fish. Has it ruined Swimbait fishing? I don't think it has.
I don't have it but I sure wouldn't mind having it on my boat like you said just another tool in the toolbox.
I really enjoyed the video very informative to me bass fishing is an art form no electronics necessary.
You did a very great job at articulating and evaluating this. Thank you for sharing. Only time will tell us the answers to all of those great questions.
Im kinda like u, neutral. I do think its going to make things interesting in 5 years or so too.
For tournament guys I get it, use it or lose it. I have less respect for new fisherman who use it than the guy who’s fished for years without it. When I see a guy catch a 10 with scope I’m a lot less impressed.
In my head that catch has an asterisk next to it.
I love it. Makes it both more fun and more frustrating somehow
I havent used it yet but i definitly plan on getting it soon.
Sounds very good information!😊
Great analogy with bass fishing is like abductions. I totally agree but we give bass too much credit. Their brain is the size of a pea and I doubt they have long term memories. Thanks dude, interesting video
Hot topic!
#1 (SAFETY) I work nights so I generally 90% of the time I fish at and here in my Massachusetts/Rhode Island area the ponds are full of Rocks a lot of depths 5-15 and finding active fish helps give you the “Confidence “ to be able to catch Bass,I’ve had Active since the beginning and Love it ❤
First off I have LiveScope. I’m in Missouri and the biggest problem I see in the very near future is fish eater! I’ve seen more limits of game fish been caught and cleaned then ever before and that worries me. Definitely need some hard core studies, slot limits, length limits, something to keep up with technology.
I hear ya. People buying live scope to get limits of crappie everyday. Seen my buddy go from 1-4 keepers a trip to limiting out a few times a week. Don’t know many bass eaters but I know they’re out there.
Times are tough, people gotta eat.
@@kellymoore4517tough?! Hiring signs everywhere, nobody wants to work, just sitting on welfare and take opioids.
I feel livescope ought to be for finding fish, not catching fish, utilize in practice to set way points, off the deck during the derb
It definitely has an effect on the fish and our fisheries.
So what I like about Ben Milliken with live scope is that he tells everyone you have to spend time with your electronics before you’re going to be successful, it’s not something you can cut on and go and catch fish just because you can see them. There’s a lot to positioning and presentation using scope but it can teach people things. The biggest problem I see with it is the Mike longs out there who snag fish, & like you said the people who spend an hour throwing the kitchen sink at a fish that’s not going to eat and they’re just educating the fish. When it comes down to fishing people are going to catch fish a million different ways and all of them will have an opinion on why and how they caught them, some believe in stealth, some believe you can park on top of them and catch them. Neither are wrong. It’s one of those lucky things that we get to enjoy doing our own way. Personally I like the livescope for find structure and seeing what it looks like down there where the fish live, but when I’m casting and actively fishing, I don’t care for it.
I think you're correct with the points you made. I've always thought the same about the abduction thing. As far as FFS, the truth is we don't know the effect on fish other than that it won't be a positive. It is a financial barrier to some who would like to get into tournament fishing. So many aspects to consider. It sounds like you are leaning towards being against it, but are cautious with stating that because of all the hate that comes with that stance.
LIVESCOPE FTW
Livescope sucks
