Car or Truck Door Locks Not Working - Replacing Door Lock Actuator - 07-13 Toyota Tundra

  • I've installed several door lock actuators now and I've learned several things along the way. I also spoke with some professionals to get some tips and tricks. All of that information is shared in this video. There is definitely a wrong and a right way to install a door lock actuator. I highly suggest you do not purchase an aftermarket actuator. They are known to have issues. Brand new actuators can be very pricey but you have a great option on eBay.
    This video is sponsored by Actuators Plus (eBay). They sell OEM actuators with an optional lifetime warranty. All you have to do is return your faulty actuator in their pre-labelled shipping envelope and your lifetime warranty will be activated.
    www.ebay.com/str/Actuators-Plus
    *Actuators Plus did provide the actuator for this installation video free of charge *
    Symptoms of a bad actuator:
    1. A door will not lock or unlock using your power locks button in your vehicle
    2. Your remote will no longer allow you to lock or unlock the doors of your vehicle.

    My brother, you saved my life!!!! This is the second time I've paid to get these actuators changed, and now for the third time you taught me to do it my self and it worked. IT WORKED!!!! Thank you so much! This time, the only expense was the part itself. THANK YOU X1000!!!

    Excellent tutorial. BRAVO! Thank you for the door latch trick. I would have surely made that one major mistake. Also mine is the driver's door so I would have missed that lock screw too. Very good. I've watched at least a dozen tutorials on this and they all missed the big stuff. Always greatful. Also bought an actuator from your guy. I've been using the door key for almost two years. Thank you.

    Thanks! Saved me a lot of money and time. I've never removed a door panel or replaced a door actuator before. Felt good. One area where I messed up was not securing the green cable as far down as it would go in the door. I would open the door once and then it wouldn't work anymore because the cable kept slipping out of its holder. I used an aftermarket actuator because the OEM's are only lasting me about 2-3 years. This is the third set of actuators on this 2013 Sequoia Platinum. Total parts were just under $100 for driver and passenger doors on the front.

    • @TightWadDIY
      @TightWadDIY  4 роки тому

      Clint Carter Hopefully you have your issue fixed now. I tried an aftermarket from Rock Auto but the latch part didn’t fit properly so I sent it back. That’s why I went with a refurbished OEM. I haven’t had an issue on any of the three I replaced so far.

    Just replaced to front door lock actuators on my 2014 Tundra thanks to your video! It was relatively easy. I did get my new actuators from Actuators Plus and I am very impressed! They included a postage paid return envelope for my faulty actuators. I am so grateful for your great post! My only hiccups were not knowing how to reconnect the drivers door electrical connector, and forgetting to bolt the passenger side window track before replacing the door panel, ugh. The whole job, including the hiccups took about an hour. I would encourage almost anyone to do this job before having a shop do it. If anyone knows of a video tutorial on all the Toyota electrical connectors and how they work please send me the link. Thanks again!

Luckily a 3ft rod from Homedepot with a hook bent on the end and an endoscope taped to the rod. Unusual situation - my key would turn the lock, but no result. 2012 Tundra. I was ready to remove the lock assembly, until I saw your tip about the key assembly. I took that apart, seemed fine, reassembled just the key lock. Works fine. And it feels different. It now has a solid feel to the actuators. Wonder if it was not seated in the nylon star in the door? Anyway, great tips well done - and you just saved me a buttload of work. Thank you.

    On my 2015 Sequoia the Left driver door locks and unlocks with remote just not with physical key in the door lock, what could be the issue? I looked with a boor camera to make sure that cross you make reference to in your video is turning left and right, is there additional linkage going down to the lock actuator from the lock cross?

    What is the failure rate on these actuators? Mine started acting up and I found this video. I just finished changing out the actuator on the Driver's Door. Everything on the driver's door now works(Button and Keyless lock and unlock as well as key lock/unlock) but the other 3 doors do not lock/unlock from the button or the key fob. Also I get no audible beep when locking from the key fob. I get a beep when I unlock but it only unlocks the driver's door. Does this mean that 1 of the other 3 doors also has a failed actuator?
