When I worked at an airline in London in the 1970s, our offices were on the 2nd floor (Oxford St side) of the now Marriott Hotel, shown in Hannah's video. I would sometimes shop at C&A which was almost next door. We used to joke that "C&A" stood for "Coats 'n 'ats". In recent years I have been back and walked around the hotel but nothing is the same, apart from the exterior of the building which I imagine is "protected". Thanks Hannah, I loved seeing this. 🤩

Ah Iconic Oxford Street - where we all wanted to shop back in the day. I bought my first pair of heels there, then had to pop in the loo after a few shops because they were crippling me haha. I worked behind John Lewis in Cavendish Square for 30 years. Oxford Street has always been down market from Oxford Circus to Tottenham Road and the higher end stores from Oxford Street to Marble Arch. Overtime Oxford street went downhill. My boyfriend thought I was exaggerating so we went back a week later on a Thursday night but this visit had the added “pleasure” of the pop-up protests closing tube stations and even more obnoxious pedicabs. @@katrinabryce I took my 19 year old daughter shopping in Oxford Street last year. There are few other places where you can go from shop to shop (so many of them) and having so much choice. It is much nicer to walk along that street, during the summer, than in the corridors of a shopping centre.

Evening Hannah thank you for the vlog on Oxford street. I loved shopping in Oxford street about once a week but when I went the last time found it so dull and boring. About 4/5 Zara and hardly any other womans clothes shops which I miss as so many good boutiquey shops closed in South Molton street. You are right was never mad of House of Fraser or Debenhams but since they went the area seems to have gone down the pan. Just not the same shopping area any more. Need more eating places and has definitely lost its exciting shopping experience. Thank goodness for Selfridges! Oxford street looks very tatty lost its buzz/ Sue

Those rickshaws are a menace there music or rather noise is so unnecessary, awful, and what I always notice in London are push bikes they clearly think road rules don't apply to them, they're dangerous just going straight through red lights and crossings. Great video Hannah 👍 from me.

Thanks for this walk down Oxford Street! My first time down the street was in 1976 (I'm an old guy) and my second was in 2002. My December 2023 walk down Oxford Street was depressing due to all the "chain" stores, whether athletic shoes, watches, or clothing shops, which are in every large city in the U.S. as well. Marks & Sparks and Selfridges, old British names, have always been there and I also remember stationers and camera and photo shops back in 1976. One place I enjoyed visiting on this recent trip was Audley House, home to James Purdey, a very traditional building with so much more character than the post-war developments. Thank you for keenly observing the lack of places to eat; during the December visit, there was a light rain and I was feeling peckish but had nowhere to go.
I chatted with a some building surveyors at two renovation sites and the building regs might be one of the reasons construction projects take so long. Frankly, I think another reason is that large spaces are hard to fill with so many retailers online and so much retail crime in large American cities. Might there be similar concerns among British firms?
Finally, it was nice to see that glorious sunlight on the street; it really brightened things up.

Oxford Street - used to be the place to shop when I was a teenager, especially the C&A's!. It reminds me of Times Square in some ways. Thank goodness Selfridges is there (and the M&S) . It's a huge city - there are going to be some areas that are a little tackier than others, but on the whole, there aren't many cities of the size of London with as much green space, parks, beautiful buildings. Glad to see the American Candy stores are disappearing. Thanks for taking us along - so much fun!

Hannah it is so good to see you again today & to get your tour of Oxford St! Wow, I can't get over the number of those "taxi tricycles" that all had the blaring music, & seemed to drive directly by you, wherever you were! Oxford Street sounds so stately, but it seemes to be going thru the same type of transition that is happening in so many downtown metro areas, with contant renovation, or new construction! Many of the older buildings that you highlighted Hannah, were beautiful, & hopefully will continue to be preserved!
Thx Hannah, for sharing this area of London, & I can see why you continue to go there so often! It seems very different to the vibe at Christmas time, but that is the case for many areas....which is why it is nice to see them during different times of the year! I hope the sun continues to shine for you Hannah, as we enter the month of August; & that you are able to enjoy your summer time!
