I noticed you almost got hooked. I also noticed you unhooking the fish with your bare hands. You've got bigger balls than I! I pinch down the barbs and always use needle-nose pliers. I learned the hard way.
I can't believe you made a vid about this...........I just started searching and getting into the mirrodine and bam!!!!! my fishing sensei pops up with a master course!!!!!! Thanks bro!! Right on time!
Same for me, Keith, had a few minutes and was heading to a couple of other Mirrodine techniques videos I’ve archived, when this excellent one popped up as just posted. No need to go to any of the others. This one nails it, very informative instruction, and is now added to my techniques archive.
@Kevin Wynne, that’s exactly what I’ve been guilty of doing and sometimes works in an aggressive bite. I need to remind myself of this slower pace and cadence (and not have so much coffee, LOL).
Thanks for making these vids, since I found you and angler up with Brant, my Dad and I have been fishing EVERY weekend. I'm so grateful to be spending time doing something we both love. So, thank you.
Good video, your one of the few I trust what there saying, I wished you fished the other side of the bay more, thanks again and have a great 2022 buddy 🎣👍
Also, when I miss a fish or they let go, I cast right back out just beyond the place I just had the strike, since trout are gregarious, and not just schoolie dinks are! Great video, keep this quality coming!
Awesome video brother. I'm glad that hook only got caught in your jacket. Love to tips brother. Merry Christmas to you and your family brother and I hope you enjoy your holiday.
Speaking the truth! Love your reactions when hooking up while describing your technique. I believe a friend of mine and myself past you one day coming out to the marsh at Bayou Vista in Texas.
An excellent video, now added to my “lure retrieval” techniques archive. I now realize how guilty I am of overworking this lure. I love them and have way too many which is a good thing 😀. I try to live the mantra of “change retrieves before changing lures”, and to quit arguing with the fish. This is tremendous content. All Mirrodines come with rattles, some of them actually rattle. I sound snarky but they are manufactured with plastic beads that stick in corners and crevices inside the body cavity. I’ve had to tap them briskly on pliers or something else hard to loosen them up and getting the beads “unstuck”. Have you tried them with single hooks as replacements for the trebles?
Man I could of swore I’ve seen them without rattles but I definitely could be wrong. I don’t change the hooks out to inline, I’ve tried it in the past and the hook up ration went down for me.
I have never seen a new Mirrodine in the package that wasn’t labeled MR17 or MR27, the R indicates that they rattle or are supposed to, LOL. But I’ve had many that stopped rattling before they ever hit the water, and have even drilled holes in some, added the same sized stainless bb’s and resealed it with silicon just trying to preserve some rattling. The heavier metal beads dislodge the stuck plastic ones too and since I only add 3 of 1/8” stainless ball bearings, it does not seem to influence weight or sink rates. I’ve only done this to the larger MR27 series.
Good stuff brother! You know, I’ve been fishing all my life and still learning something new thanks to videos like yours! Keep up the great content and let’s go fishing sometime! 👍
I was having a problem getting distance on my cast with this lure on my bait caster reel ,, the reason I went to the MR27 ,, I have since went to my spinning rod for this lure with braid with a flora carbon leader and am now happy with my casting distance ,, haven't put braid on my bait caster reel to see if that would also help with casting distance ,, Oh ,, I was using a loop knot also ,, that will change now lol
Man to me a good search bait is a lure you can throw out and cover a lot of water in a short period of time. Typically also a lure you’ve established a ton of confidence in. For me it’s a fluke.
Bought one in Florida, mullet color. Twitched it, ect in various situations....NEVER Caught anything on it. Fished it in fresh water Lakes. Not even a little bass..., go figure.
Sir, those are SO DEADLY. Sir those baits in the surf should be against the law. The heavy dine in olive green/ silver sides in the surf caught 31 trout on it. And also remember when you talk about tying on a shock leader. fluorocarbon does one thing and monofilament does another if you can brother explain that.
Just realized I stopped listening at some point and was just looking for landmarks... :) Sorry for trying to poach spots... I've just been doing terrible with specs.
your wrong on the loop knot if you get the front hook caught on the loop your loop is way to big you do know that you can make the loop knot as small as you want while your tying it right... oh ans i know this is a old video .
I fish the mirrodine in Crystal River for trout in the winter months. Works great. The tug is the drug!
Crystal River is one of my favorite places to fish!
Subscribed. Great advice man. I throw a ton of soft plastics and wanna get more into the hard plastic baits so I appreciate the video.
Thank you!!
So much good information in this video!
Thanks man I appreciate it!!
love the mirrodine
🙌

Grreat video. Do you have a video on fishing a MR 17 or Soft Dine for trout in cold deeper water?
I don’t but I can try to get one out
The thump usually follows the pause. 😎. Nothing like a mirrodine strike.
Man you ain’t lying that is one of the most aggressive strikes you’ll ever feel.
Thank you for the tips. Glad you were able to have a good day fishing
No problem man, glad you enjoyed it.
Excellent content...Learning a good retrieve improves an angler. You use Paul Brown lures?
Not a whole lot but I throw them from time to time
I just got a green back color mr18 heavy twitch bait
Nice!
Just bought some 17 MR's today, I'm going to try it out for the first time..
Man they’re addictive lures for trout. Trout hit them harder than any other lure.
Hey Nate, as always, another informative video. What brand is the blue rod you are using in this video
It’s a TFO Tactical inshore
Another great video. I see a lot of people twitch them too hard and fast.
Yessir! Thanks brother!!

@@johnkarges8829 lol even I’m guilty of it especially after I’m highly caffeinated 😂
@@johnkarges8829 I have to remind myself to slow down in the winter. Then slow down little more then💥
@@southernsalt I know the feeling. Keep those good videos coming. I'll be 50 in March and always looking to learn something new.

That is AWESOME, glad you enjoy the content and good luck out there!!
Great video!
Thanks brother!!
Badass thanks 🤙🏾
Thanks brother!!
What kind of set up are you running for the mirrodean
ML 7’ fast action. TFO tactical inshore
Good video, your one of the few I trust what there saying, I wished you fished the other side of the bay more, thanks again and have a great 2022 buddy 🎣👍
You’ll see me over there a lot more this year! Thanks and happy new year to you too!

Thanks man I appreciate it! Weekly uploads coming your way lol
Good video. I'm new to salt water and this lure. Never had luck with it. Looking forward to trying your techniques this spring 👍
Awesome, good luck and let us know how you do!
Boom! Great video brother! Thanks for pointing out the heavy dine too! I didn’t realize that!
Yessir! Thanks brother!!
Direct tie, or can a loop knot be used?
Direct tie. Loop knot will foul up
@@southernsalt Copy that... BIG THANKS, For you responding back.
Great video and great tips, as always! Tight lines sir!
Thanks brother!!

Thanks brother, yeah me too on the lure. Hope y’all had a good Christmas.

Man that was probably me lol love that place when I fish Galveston! I’ll be back early spring.
Nice catches! I'm subbed, Merry Christmas 🎄 and tight lines 🐟.

@@southernsalt also, what knot do you use, a tiny loop knot or a clinch knot? I’ve seen conflicting video instruction for both for a MirrOdine
Are you fishing the taco inshore from tfo?
I am
@@southernsalt the medium heavy 8 to 17 rod
Do you change the hooks out on your mirrodines and if so, with what?
I don’t change them but if I did I would go with #4 EWG
Are you using braid or fluorocarbon? What # test?
Flouro leader on braid. 10-15 pound test.
Good stuff brother! You know, I’ve been fishing all my life and still learning something new thanks to videos like yours! Keep up the great content and let’s go fishing sometime! 👍

Braid will definitely help. Also having a med light 7’3” rod will make a huge difference.
I’ve heard mirrodines aren’t really search baits. What would you consider a good winter search bait or is there no such thing?

What’s your favorite color mirrodine?
Mine is probably a silver body with a green back. That’s a pretty all around color.

Pros never actually catch fish while filming tutorials!
Thanks man I try to always show what I’m explaining in action to kind of validate my points.
