would love for her to have a film role. her comedy is great, I'm sure she could deliver a great performance. but it's the other people she would be acting with that would rlly have the be the right fit. I'd hate if they stuck her with a Melissa McCarthy type. but if they had a comedic genius who always melded well with other comedians or someone similar than shed totally kill it.. do you agree, it would rlly matter on the co stars or do you think I'm being to neurotic and she would nail it regardless?
Carrie is a great musician and her band Sleater Kinney has some great music but honestly, I think her calling in life is comedy. She has great comedic timing, delivery, and her acting ability is so underrated.
I think it’s cause the guy had The Party’s Over. They totally would have taken Spirit of Eden or Laughing Stock. Probably even Color of Spring, as long as they took out that one beer commercial track….
It's perfect because people in Portland are really like that. I lived with a couple just like this when I moved there. Their 3 yr old son was a genius 😅 and mom would spend hours writing plays with him...they had a huge record collection that they didn't listen to due to "mold" 🤷
I like music but just a very basic “top 100” radio listener, but watching Portlandia exposed me to Carrie’s band and there was a time where I thoroughly enjoyed vibing to her music.
I'm an almuna of Lewis & Clark College in Portland and was a radio DJ on campus in the 80s. KLC Radio!! A signal so strong I could get 5 listeners off-campus. 😂 I still have one of my shows on cassette. 🤙🏼😂 This sketch is so damn funny. All of us DJs had these conversations...total music snobs. I still am to this day. Hahahaha!
I was in high school in the early 90s in CA. I was just reminiscing with an old friend about how musically snobby we were. We went to this huge outdoor punk festival and got really upset when No Doubt and Sublime played (before they were famous) because they sounded poppy. Back then any pop sound mixed with punk we rejected. 😆 Now it all sounds so silly! Lol
cactaceous it's because Talk Talk didn't become a "true patrician rock" band until Laughing Stock and even then, one could say they only went into the post-rock/jazz fusion direction because The Colour of Spring tanked in sales
Hal Emmerich Laughing Stock and Spirit of Eden are no doubt their seminal records, but they were great band before that too. I'll also take that Back to the Future soundtrack. Bro, do these hipsters even know how to hipster?
Ok... Not being aware of London Calling is just pure stupidity. I can see not being aware of the debut or Give Em' Enough Rope nowadays, but London Calling is about as unobscure as an album can get.
This was bound to happen...I mean come on he is lead singer of Modest Mouse (so Portlandia's message lol) and he lives in Portland. This is g8. This really captures his awkwardness! Love you Isaac
Talk Talk not at a Portland Preschool. No No No. I will bring this up at the next meeting. We had that time out/listening period for Captain Beefheart in my son's class and it went down rather well!
I happened to click on this today. First shot was the picture of an elementary school. My brain went 🤯from the nostalgia - it's the same elementary school I went to and the library is where the school teachers took us to read.
When I first watched this on TV I was looking down for a split second and my head just sprung right up when it heard Isaac Brock's voice. HOLY SHIT BEST CAMEO!!!!!
For me the most real and spazziest moment is 1:24 “there’s earlier stuff, you know that right?” So been that person yelling at people about music before 😂

I always feel a bit silly when I watch this, these guys are making funny of ME LOL Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to seeing my daughter laugh at this sketch as much as I do - music snobbery is just my thing!!
I looked up the number one song on my birthday (March 26th 1989) and was thoroughly underwhelmed to see ‘The Living Years’ by Mike and the Mechanics. If you look through the comments for that video they’re literally all depressing as shit lol. Probably because they’re all from people who like that song. This skit made it all better.
It's just so funny that the guy donating the records shows up during the meeting. Honestly, if I had kids, I'd just be impressed that the teacher was playing vinyl for them. Don't care what it is. Just play those kiddies some mf vinyl. lmao
So that’s the reason I’ve never used my early childhood education degree. I’ve just never heard of Noy? before now. Ahhh. Must take a listen now. Had every The Clash album tho. Loved Joe Stummer when I was a youngin’.
This show's heavy handed use of musical tension hooks when characters become confrontational is priceless.
"sorry to interrupt, but i'm also not sorry to interrupt"
yeah - that's what he said. thanks
The best!
@@sexobscura Thanks, I was having difficulty remembering if that's what he said

Exactly, they finally came to their senses.
and watching this near-universal trajectory is pretty funny, can't lie.
I hope this dying on a hill bullshit runs out of steam soon.

Carrie Brownstein does not get enough credit for her acting abilities. She’s amazing!
She really is.

so good
2:42 Carrie's deadpan, "I don't want my kids stealing bread." I lost it and couldn't stop laughing.

This joke went over me. Can you explain? haha I wish I knew it.
scootertron83 Song is called Hunger Strike by Temple of the Dog where the first lyrics are "I don't mind stealing bread".
Those kids gotta conquest that bread.
Isaac Brock acknowledging Talk Talk is one of the greatest moments in music history.
I love that they can't agree on Mike and the Mechanics but are both willing to roast that lady for only knowing The Clash's later work.
