Sausalito and Santa Barabara for sure. Those places are rich white joke versions of authenticity. Berkeley and SF still have a lot of real in them. real= homeless, punks, vagabonds, poor artists, poor students, poor (comparably) professors, cool approachable people.

@ K T cool, way to click on the first one. Anyway Lizzo totally proves my point that Tiny Desk is an eclectic mix of musicians, not just quiet strings. Get with it
is that sub-titles in russian , if yeah, that's cool. this show is hilarious😅😂😂. every country should laugh, plus comedy heals the wounded soul. Thanx, mate

Sadly this is more like a documentary now and the wounding continues.
The first song was actually really beautiful even if they were just parodying the elements of a soothing band. I love anecdotal lyrics with strong imagery.
Funny as the years progress and Portlandia keeps going, it turns more and more into just a documentation. Rough part of satire is it's only satirical when you can still recognize its being done, otherwise it just seems like a documentary as this behavior is too close to reality now. Like "is this a joke, or is this real, I can't tell anymore."
@Juantarde Haha. Thanks for the laugh. You mad? I've never been to PDX. I don't know what a woodlawn event is... I simply used to take my kids there (up from Medford) to see the OMSI, go on the sky ride and visit the outlets on the way. Ironically, you have done nothing but reinforce a stereotype that has been pulling money out of Portland for decades. A stereotype that Portland *thinks* it is more than the OMSI, blood sucking lawyers, and politicians that have been strangling the Oregon economy with red tape and bums who don't want to work. Also, your weather sucks.
If you're wondering if you should get into 70's Genesis, watch this immediately before a Manowar concert EDIT: For full immersion leave the venue every 5 minutes and repeat this video before returning
1:07 -- How do you get feedback without mics? Nevertheless, I loved this. I was going to use capital letters and an exclamation mark ("Nevertheless, I LOVED this!"), but it seemed ... it didn't seem gentle enough.
i saw this, and said..."oh, i've seen that already", and scrolled on past it. then i stopped and thought..."what if this is exactly what i needed to see today?" 🤔 and i scrolled back up and watched it.....again. this is a true story, and not a paid endorsement for Portlandia or gentle music competitions in any way.
Oh fuck the first voice Fred did is so familiar he’s definitely doing a reference or impression and it’s on the top of my tongue, especially when he said “my grandfathers old wooden chair” or whatever, maybe it’s just dylan idk
And the crowd goes mild.
Ha ha!
s4ujcd omg 😂
Yaaaaaaay.
LMFAO!!
Please keep it down , a slight nod will do !
I had a dream of my grandfather and his wooden chair.
i wish it was a real song
@@BirdieBirdieBirdie566 Make it be one🪕
Randomly I will think of this line and it brings me back everytime.
I think that's a nice dream to have.
Makes me think of Joe by the Cranberries 😂
Kind of shocked at how violently the crowd was clapping it's like they either don't know jazz hands exist or don't care about the welfare of insects.
At poetry readings I've seen people snap their fingers, these people would definitely do that.
@@lynnpehrson8826Do you have any *concept* of how many microbes die on your fingers with every snap?!
I always thought that was a joke.
How did you not go crazy with a flamethrower?
This is every day in Berkeley, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Sausalito...
Malcolm Nicoll lmao
Malcolm Nicoll
And Cotati, Sonoma County...
I was there in the 70s
Where time and place came together at the Running Fence

I don't count rich kids pretending to be homeless for fun 'real' tho

I saw frannys wisp with slayer in '88
You made me snort 6 years later.
Frannywisp are total sellouts. She could have scalped that ticket and donated the monies to a bird charity.
In Portland you can put a bird on a charity and call it art.
Sorry bro birds aren't real
* insect charity
I want to hear that entire song by Featherwash that guys grandfathers chair sounds cool as hell.
I think we got a new name for a song....Grandfather's Chair!!!
Even unplugged he's still the loudest guitarist ever!
I love how far away the audience was sitting. You know, because it might get too loud.
I saw Dinosaur Jr play a show in a barn in Iowa this year and I really wanted to make a shirt that said Bless The Barn.
Codfish Hollow.. love that venue!
I don't think Dinosaur Jr will be winning any battle of the gentle bands anytime soon..
Frannie Wisp, enjoying the shit out of the truck pull, alone.
Love how J is using his actual signature guitar in this lol
I have that guitar its amazing ❤️
His second signature guitar
They got poor J. wandering around in a field.
Fender classic vibe paint scheme is so beautiful.
" Grandfather and his wooden chair ' was totally Gordon Lightfoot
I thought he sounded like Nick Drake but could be.
Really gave me “Saturday Clothes” vibes. Glad I’m not the only Gordon Lightfoot fan ❤ RIP
The precision of that vocal blow on the feathers left me in tears, truely astounding.
i might have believed your tale of tears....had you not misspelled truly.

the 2 girls that kiss the bell are members (or former members) of The Dirty Projectors, and are wonderful musicians in their own right
The reference to J being too loud is amazing haha. Cuz dinosaur jr. is notorious for their loud shows
Thanks for pointing that out mate
Oh now I get it.
Ya think?
I could feel it in my head for a solid 24 hours after I saw them play inside
He once played guitar for GG Allin....he was strumming Blood for you...in that segment.... brilliant.
"We don't wanna harm any insects"
Goddammit J. That cameo made this sketch
I wish more people thought like this. I just saved an ant the other day.
What Camino
Such a respectable crowd!

Boy, I sure hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

J knocking into the microphone is one of the funniest things I've ever seen
Not as funny as J lurking 50ft behind the stage playing without a cord
@@albertandrews130 i thought that was trey anastasio at first, not gonna lie.
Not really though, right? It was amusing, but the one of the funniest things you've ever seen? No.
@@JohnnyJohnny-f5o thank you for reminding me of this video, I needed a good laugh today :)
J Mascis way behind the stage in the grass was a nice touch. Didn't even realize it was the same band on the first watch.
kiss my bell and blow my feather.
1:24 only the dog smiling lol
Bless the Barn. LOL
J mascis 😂😂 "yeah we dont want to harm any insects"
No insects were harmed in the making of this special episode of Portlandia. : )
The idea of J Mascis in a quiet band is pretty damn funny.
That blond actress has been in a couple sketches and they always use that giggling child sound effect. There’s a sketch in a second-hand store where she’s an employee. Fred Armisen calls for her and she just giggles like that.

Most people (that haven't been to Portland) don't know that Portlandia is actually a documentary...
People from Portland are like this!
It’s always wonderful that Carrie Brownstein - of *Sleater-Kinney* - is in Portlandia, but it makes this skit especially fun.
The first song was actually really beautiful even if they were just parodying the elements of a soothing band. I love anecdotal lyrics with strong imagery.

i moved to portland about 8 months ago and im still not sure if I like it here and this show and scene make me want to die

Update? Have you moved? Did you die?
did you die and move?
Clearly, she died. Was the cause an anti-Trump riot, drug overdose, mugging, covid, or monster truck accident?
A lot of idiots moved to Portland because they thought it was like this show
ending it with the "check me out" tramp-stamp is comedy gold!
Too funny! Twisty loves Portlandia!
beyond hilarious but I especially am loving the doggo at 1:25... you can tell he is digging it
Because unlike a lot of music, this didn't hurt his ears. He was beyond pleased
God damnit this is so accurate
"Can you turn the guitar down please"

This is so incredibly accurate and nothing has changed to this day. The audience here? Go to any New Seasons and you'll see clones of them.

I don't think they're in danger of a mosh pit breaking out. Like in my day.
