Your tutorial is invaluable! I made the Weekender Light pattern with fingering weight almost a year ago. Couldn't have finished it without your HiyaHiya help! And now making a second sweater using DK weight yarn in the Weekender Light. Especially value your note about making the sleeves bigger than in the pattern.

I am ready to do the neck bindoff--I think. I want to follow your instructions. So, do I disregard the instructions that have me slipping neck stitches? From your tutorial, it seems that I work the ribbing up until the neck stitches, do the Hiya Hiya bindoff and then complete the other side with the shoulder ribbing.

Im so glad I found your video. I’m at the point of separating front & back. I’ve done Row 1 (WS), now on Row 2 it says purl to 1 at before marker? Sl 1, wyib, sm, purl. Is this correct - I thought it would be purl to marker, sm, sl 1 wyib, sm, purl? Just checking on this - I’m sure this is a simple process and I’m just complicating it - which I tend to do. Just wondering….because now we are knitting and purling - so not sure if the slip location is changing. Also, once you separate front/back - and k, p to desired cm, are you supposed to k,p the stitches that were on the stitch holder? The pattern doesn’t specify what to do - it just jumps to shoulder separation

So happy to have found this tutorial. I was about to start the Weekender and was having a hard time with the tubular cast on. Your video will be super helpful. Andrea suggest starting with a smaller needle to cast on then on to the ribbing with 1 size bigger and then to the body one size bigger again. Is it necessary to start with the smallest one suggested or can I go with the second size for the ribbing and then the third size for the body? I believe that is what you did in your video. Thank you in advance for your answer. Very grateful!

Thanks for a great tutorial. The Weekender pattern calls for a smaller needle for the tubular cast on. Did you do that? If so, did you just use the smaller needle for the ribbon or did you use the smaller needle on all the setup row and then switch?

    • @knittingwhimsy

I’m so glad you found it helpful! Yes … you could throw in a few decreases along the way to make the sweater a smaller size at the top. You just need to make sure you do the same for front and back - and be aware of your different stitch count when you do the neck opening. In the bulk of the sweater - the different cast on methods will not make a difference - however if you have already used one cast on method for the first ribbing - I would use the same for the second. Fantastic tutorial! thank you so much - it has answered all of the queries I had about techniques for the Weekender pattern. I'm slightly concerned about my choice of yarn though - I'm intending to use Debbie Bliss Donegal Luxury Tweed Aran (I was searching for patterns for this yarn on Ravelry and the Weekender popped up as an option) using 0.5mm smaller needles as that seems to get the right tension for me. Do you think this would work or should I stick to Worsted?! Many thanks!

So glad you have found the tutorial helpful. I must confess I just kind of winged the arm bit. I just knit my flat sections a bit longer than the pattern called for - and then I had more stitches to pick up as I was adding the arms. The sweater is pretty oversized already - so I found it to be pretty forgiving to my just adding a bit to the front and back flap - allowing for more of an arm opening. I hope that helps you.

When you go to pick up the stitches for your sleeves - the right side is facing you ‘right side facing’ as you begin at the underarm. As you said - the ‘wrong sides are together’ These things are both true - I think your confusion is in the term ‘right side facing’ - which perhaps you took to mean ‘right sides facing together’ ?

I wondered whether you did the “ slip purl” rows after the ribbing before the neck bind off. I agonized a while and then did the bind off as you show but after the “ slip purl” rows. So I have an extra row of ribbing on the shoulders. I’ve only done one side so far. Will the shoulder bind off be OK as long as I do the second side the same way? Thank you!
