I've seen this pattern EVERYWHERE... that means I need to knit this. I feel more confident to try it after I saw this tutorial. Thanks for using the giant yarn. It made it easier for a visual learner like me.
Just found my way into mosaic /slip-stitch knitting. Thank you for this tutorial. Your instructions are very clear “helpful” and provide confidence for a novice knitter. Keen to tryout this pattern.
Thank you!! I am so glad you like the video. I am just about to post a new tutorial for Gloam by Caitlin Hunter - it’s a great fall sweater pattern! #sweaterweather!!
OHmygoodness!! I am so grateful for this, thank you! I'm foraying deeper into intermediate knitting so when I saw the pattern for this after I purchased it, I'm pretty sure my eyes crossed and I had steam coming out of my ears LOLOL. I definitely feel much more confident reading back over the pattern now. Also...I love the lighter weight of yarn you used--perfect for more mild weather! I will certainly be checking out more of your tutes!! xoxox
I just bought the pattern an hour ago. I’ll try to knit this for my grand-daughter. Your video tutorial enticed me to do it. Thanks again, have a bless days and Happy New Year🍇🎉🪅
So happy that you posted this excellent tutorial! I had purchased the pattern but was immediately lost amid the M1L and M1R and other confusing stitches. Seeing them executed and explained was SO helpful. I can knit this cowl now. Thank you!!
I'm so glad you show us how to do the weekender now I"m going to order the pattern and do it thank you very much now if the rest of the broadcasters would fine the time to do that I would be a happy camper , but I would like if possible
Thank you so much for this incredibly helpful video! I have never used the mattress stitch before- and was worried about finishing the shift. Just completed it, and I am very happy with how the seam turned out after following your video.
Thank you so much for making this actually seem doable for an advanced beginner knitter like me! Colorwork has always seemed out of reach for me but your video makes me think I could give it a try. What a beautiful cowl too. It would be fun playing with different yarns to see all the wonderful combinations you could come up with. 💗🙏🏻🧶
Really appreciate this video. It helped me so much and it did get easier once in section one repeating rows 7&8. I am really enjoying the knit. You are a fabulous instructor and working in both big and small yarn was a great help. I am planning to make another and I would like to know the colors you used from periwinkle sheep. Thank you again.
@@knittingwhimsy Me again. I have just finished my second Shift (cotton this time), and would like to suggest that you insert something between finishing the iCord and seaming that shows the positioning of the cowl for seaming. I am a bit 3D challenged and struggled with this.
I think it would be helpful to explain the reason you knit in to the front or knit in to the back of the stitch. The reason is to twist the stitch to prevent it from creating a hole. If you didn't twist the stitch, you'd end up with what looks like a small yarnover. Additionally, for determining left and right, you can look at the direction the yarn is laying across the needle. When you're doing a make 1 left, the yarn is laying across the needle going towards the left. When making a make 1 right, the yarn is laying across the needle towards the right. I think visual clues like that are so helpful in preventing mistakes and making the knitting go a lot faster.
Thank you for your tutorial, very well done. I am knitting The Shift. At times my yarn is NOT ending on the same side….I have one color on the right, one color on the left. I know they need to be on the same side. Cannot figure out my mistake. Any help you can offer? Thanks for your advice.
Thank you, I have been frogging galore....always just missing that small step that changes the stitch....driving me bonkers..I just set aside and start working the other projects I have going, giving that shawl a stink eye. Now I can go back, and watch your educational video until I get the flow of it. Thank you
This tutorial is very helpful and I now feel confident in going forward . I also liked the copper and silver brown yarn you used to demonstrate with. Any chance of finding out the brand and color?
Me too! It is my favorite yarn! It is from Bella Yarn - Mendocino - color is precious metals. You can get online of your local yarn store doesn’t carry.
Where it reads SECTION TWO {Colors A & C} You will increase every RS row. Repeat Section One, replacing Color B with Color C. Break Color C at the end of this section. 40 sts inc’d; 90 sts on needle. Does this mean I start from Row 1 through Row 24 whilst also completing the Repeat Rows 21-24?
What helps me remember which way to grab the bar for make one left and right is that I say to myself “right -rear” so I always know M1R is back (rear) to front.
This is the best every! I gave up and put my shift over a year ago. Thank you so much! Can you list the colors of yarn you used please? You are an excellent teacher? 🙏 ❤️
Thank you so much! I’m sorry I missed your comment up until now. I don’t remember the colors - the yarn is periwinkle sheep silky singles. I do love working with her yarn. I hope you are enjoying your knitting!!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I'm a little confused about the M1l and M1r increases at the sides. Sometimes you do them and sometimes you don't. Do you increase at both sides of each row or at both sides of every row?
I love the colors! Did you use the Periwinkle Sheep Silky Single yarn? I see that's a fingering wt yarn, although the pattern calls for a sport wt yarn. Did you worry about gauge? Thanks!
Yes - and since it isn’t a fitted garment I didn’t worry about gauge- I have made a few and they are all slightly different sizes. Hope yours turned out great!!
I am making myself the nightshift cowl. But I have made a huge MISTAKE! I'm soposto have a 110 stich count at the section I just finished but I have 130 stich count I've repeated a section twice I'm guessing. Will it still seam properly if I don't rip back? Or will it be wonky looking?
A bit confused it seems reading the pattern with colors A B & C don’t alternate as quickly as yours. Are you carrying the yarns up the side of your rows?
sorry I hit the wrong button as wonder if you can do the flex sweater I know there's a lot of tutorials out there but I still have a hard time understanding that I have a hard time with the increases when I ask for help they would even look at my sweater which I wasn;t to happy about so now that's on hold , cause I:m not sure if my increases are right , I have watch the video's but the don't increase far enough for me to see if I'm doing it right or not thank you Diane
Good luck! Sometimes you just need to move on to another project! I don’t know if the Flex sweater - but try The Weekender Sweater - it’s a great Andrea Mowry pattern and you can follow my tutorial!
Another question. In doing section one, last 2 rows say to “repeat rows 1-8 then rows 1-4”. If I do that, I will have more than the 30 stitches it calls for….help? What should I be doing ? Confused.
You want to start with the needle size the pattern suggests - see if you get gauge. If not go up or down needle size until you do get gauge. If you want more information on getting gauge I do have a video on gauge and sizing. You have probably started by now - sorry for delayed response! I hope your Weekender comes out fabulous and more importantly you enjoy knitting it! 🧶🧶💃

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I'm a little confused about the M1l and M1r increases at the sides. Sometimes you do them and sometimes you don't. Do you increase at both sides of each row or at both sides of every row?

Absolutely! Just remember you might want to go down a needle size or two if you have a lighter yarn. Hope your Shift comes out great!!
