What a horse! In the hands of the right jockey this horse is a history maker. What pride I see in Aiken today! Everybody has a number 12 on them or on their car. From our little shy town of Aiken comes a mighty beast named "Palace Malice"
Palace Malice won! He was my favorite for the Derby and the Preakness! He finally won at a 13-1 odds! I knew I saw greatness in him! I am so happy! I give props to Unlimited Budget on being the only filly in the line up! Congrats to his owners and trainer, and of course my favorite jockey Mike Smith!
I agree, Malixie. It is awesome that a colt from Curlin's very first crop won the Belmont Stakes. There are many sires that go years without ever producing a Classic winner. I expect even greater success from Curlin as a sire and from Palace Malice. I expect that Palace Malice will continue to improve. He's my bet if he runs in the Travers and/or Haskell.
I had to make one more comment. For all of you who jumped on Freedom Childs band wagon you should never listen to all the hype that certain people write about, this race was not the peter pan and the quality of horses were alot better than that race and the distance was a bit further than he wants to go.So my sympanthy goes out to those of you who lost focus because of the picture that was posted of his start in the Wood Memorial, but that didnt change the quality of the horse, love to hear your com
I wouldn't give up handicapping :) He is the son of Curlin, and they (Todd Pletcher and company) knew as time went on he would be getting better. Wearing blinkers for the first time is what killed him for the Derby..by all accounts he was freaked out. He set a blistering pace for the Derby. If you read news before the Belmont..this horse was on fire...his workouts were incredible. He seems to built for speed. Curlin got better with age, so who knows about his progeny?
@@WellArmed3332 This comment 2+ years old but ill respond anyway. They put blinkers on because he got distracted in both his preps, and was training fine with blinkers going into the derby. Imagine thinking Todd Pletcher is stupid...
@@redrider132001 LMAO..DISTRACTED HUH?...LOL..thats why he finished 12th..his worst placing in his career..takes off the blinkers and wins the belmont..lay off the kool aid kid...lmao.
I think the thing about Curlin (and his offspring?? tbd) is that he had a longer learning curve. He got better as he went on, he learned more. From what I have read, they (Todd Pletcher and Co.) are expecting him to get better as the year goes on. Travers, Woodward and Breeders Cup coming up, so only time will tell. I do agree with one of your earlier posts.... that this is an average year, though.
dont forget i'll have another was scratched for the belmont last year. that horse was just a beast on the final stretch and got better with each race, couldve definitely saw him winning the belmont
My superfecta horses came in the top 6 order of finish. I had Palace Malice second on my ticket, but felt he had a great shot to take it all. Orb ran an awesome race, but Rosario started him moving a little too late (just an observation). As I look at the reply Orb did not have that final kick, so maybe moving him sooner would not have done it. Palace Malice had a top 4 power number, so handicapping wise, he was a great bet.
I agree, and I guess I should make that clear for the record so I don't have a ton of hate mail starting, LOL. I'm not at all suggesting that a few of these might blossom into much better horses later in the season, but just using the past couple of Ky. Derby's as measuring sticks, there certainly weren't any Animal Kingdom's or I'll Have Another's among this year's crop of 3yo.
michael i dont think anyone saw him setting the pace in the derby, sometimes stranger things happen, even though he did he still finished decent. His workouts leading up to this race as well as mike smiths comments in an article about the 93 belmont sent up signals he may run a big race.
It's true that it's unfair to P/Mal to compare him to any other horse. Congrats to P/Mal on his win; well done!....and now on to SECRETARIAT! I felt ORB was a bit 'Secretariat-esque' today when he powered up, from all the way in the BACK, to capture 3rd; that wasn't easy! ORB is a good horse! I think he's a tough competitor, who doesn't quit. That's a great quality.
It has to be one of the greatest if not the greatest rivalry of all time. At least in horse racing. Affirmed came across not only wanting to win, but to knock Alydar out of the winners circle. I'd almost swear Affirmed took it personal.
You have to think, the Belmont is a full 3 furlongs longer than the Preakness, and two furlongs longer than the Derby, some horses just can’t go those extra 2-3 furlongs
For your INFORMATION..Freedom Child "flipped soft palate".. making shreAking breathing noise.. Saez immediately grabbed hold and eased him!!! This from a friend who was with connections...and helped unsaddle him.
It's an upset because the odds involved in the order of finish (who finished 1st, 2nd, & 3rd) were not what most bettors anticipated.. PM won the race at 13-1 (bet $2 to win, get back @ $28) - a huge profit. (In one aspect, this race wasn't that big an upset; the professional estimate of his odds before the race was that he would go off at 20-1 - bet $2, GB @ $42.) Quirk #2: Oxbow, finishing 2nd, went off at 10-1 (much higher than the pro estimate of 5-1). The favorite at 2-1, Orb? 3rd.
I'm not saying Palace will ever be a 10th of the racehorse Curlin was but this was one of the big races in Curlin's early career that he just couldn't come through to win. I think it's pretty cool that in one of Curlin's first crop of foals he was able to produce a colt that actually won the Belmont.
A lot of great horses were hit or miss, especially early on. They're green. It's the way he ran that caught my attention. I've liked him from the start.
No, WRONG! ORB moved boldly today & covered ALOT of ground from the back of the pack to 3rd place - a great move! ORB will continue to win I think & may be even greater as a 4 year old! Congrats to ORB! the Trip Crwn isn't easy (except for Secretariat). ORB did his best in ALL 3 races. His 3rd today was good; I like him. He'll be GREAT at 4!
Barbaro was something special, but I think as special as he was, he was also fragile. Its sad, I loved that horse, won on him in the derby because I saw how hard he hit the ground when he ran. Man
I definitely think this was a bad year. Last year's 3 year olds were good, in my opinion but never got to see the best of them. Maybe next year will be better.
I spent ten bucks on five different numbers i like and hit trifecta 12 with a 5 7.. for 464,00 payout..it was fun to see your picks line up thru the strech..just wish i put yhe whole twent on it ..lol
I think SSlew, Affirmed/Alydar were WONDERFUL! GREAT Racehorses! SSlew was tough & a real fighter. Affirmed/Alydar's competitive spirit was fierce! Alydar was SO brave, but had a terrible death - it was so WRONG! BUT - Secretariat will ALWAYS be the King! Sec achieved perfection, most notably at Belmont, and Sec made perfection seem easy - he was a horse-god.
They are not born with a physical heart that is two to three times the normal size. Secretariat had such a heart, the real beating heart. It gave him a lot more oxygen to feed his muscles, not going to find another like him in a lifetime.
After watching this years triple crown i am not sure who the best three year old is.I think this will be another crop like last years with a horse emerging late in the season to win some of the big races like the Haskell and Travers stakes or the Penn. derby.I think Normandy Invasion will be a factor in a couple of those races, that is just my opinion. But i do believe that Wise Dan is the best horse in training right now that is besides Game on Dude in California. These are just my opinions.
Palace Malice had the perfect trip, which is why he won. He had no serious challengers. He's an average colt in an average year; I see him as maybe being a Drosselmeyer type- maybe he'll take a big one in a year or two, but for the most part he'll drop off the radar and never accomplish anything outstanding. Hopefully the summer races will reveal a late-bloomer of quality from this crop.
I still believe I'll Have Another could've done it, had he been given the chance. I went to his Kentucky Derby, so it would've been special had he won the Triple Crown.
The Belmont is next to impossible to pick. Forget trying to handicap it. It'd all about which pinhead gets the luckiest trip. This race is all about timing, and every jockey in it over the years seems to be missing that " clock within". I think a lot of it is fear of having no horse left too.It takes a superior horse to win this one on talent alone, jockey's just along for the ride. There have been no outstanding horses for year's. See the connection? They just don't make them like they used to.
