Bottling the ketchup sure looks great. You are a bless couple. America needs far more good people like the two of you. Happy homesteading, God bless America.
My husband is a die-hard Heinz ketchup lover. I'm going to try this recipe to see if I can change his mind. Once again, thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Penny Canfield Do some research heinze is loaded with toxic chemicals like mercury high fructose corn syrup and they only use 2% tomatoes.Homemade is way healthier. Thanks
Oh, I know! I'm the health guru in our house, but unfortunately, my husband isn't one and he just goes by taste. I'm hoping this recipe will change his mind. Take care!!
Penny Cainfield. There is an OP tomato that are the tomatoes that Heinz uses. " Heinz"
The foam is not impurities and is not harmful in any way. People usually remove it because it looks better.
Denise Canterberry you are correct. The only thing I skim is quince jelly, because you need that to look clear. I wouldn’t eat this sauce if you paid me! In Aust we have sweet sauce.....equal proportions, tomato, sugar, onions, vinegar, Granny Smith apple plus salt and spices, eg 6 cloves per pound tomatoes. He’s making and eating spaghetti sauce!
@@juneshannon8074 why not say what you really mean? "Wouldn't eat it if you paid me" ??? Why'd you have to go there? For that matter, Why'd you even watch the video to begin with? You're obviously better than the rest of us. But to be honest, apple's in ketchup sounds disgusting. Sounds like you really don't like tomatoes at all. Such a nasty comment. Smh.
I watched your video because I'm about to can my grandma's ketchup recipe from when I was a kid and I wanted a refresher. I love how you said not to expect this to taste like commercial ketchup. You're so right! Homemade has a much more open fresh flavor than the salty vinegar taste of store-bought tomato ketchup. I'm excited to get back to work in my kitchen and recreate this savory memory.
After watching you can ketchup, I got brave enough to can my home made spaghetti sauce. It worked! Thank you!
It's like you read my mind!! I actually told my husband yesterday "I think I may try making ketchup this year. No idea how but I think I might look for some videos on it." Wake up... here it is. Awesome video y'all!!!
Hope'sHomestead Thanks so much hope you get to give it a try it terned out so good for us.The only tricky part was getting it to the right thickness without it scorching.thanks girl
Deep South Homestead I have to remember that. Slow and steady.
We made some grape ketchup a few years ago and we like the sweet and tangy taste.
You guys are great. I love the southern accents and calmness in your voices. I am dying to live this life! Learning how to can food is a wonderful feeling. I have only done pinto beans and carrots so far but with all of the help from these videos, I am destined for some home-canned greatness!
Thank you for all you do, I have been weighting for this. My wife and I like ketchup, but I get tired of going to the store and buying it. Know I can make it, and don't have to go to the store that much. GOD bless ya'll, and hope ya'll have a great day. Thank you again.
excellent video folks ...thanks from central Canada...God bless...doug
i leave the skins and seed ~ Just blend them in. It help keep the bright red color, and has more favor ! I put my home made past into it too
People take for granted how long things really take to make. I spent 50% of my adolescent life on my grandmothers farm so some of these processes I have grown up with..It is very comforting to me to see them carried on.
I’m so going to do this I hate the crap we buy in the store thank u thank u for this my grand ma is passed on so I have no one to teach me these thing so thank u for this God bless
Let us know how it came out if you please.
I'll never forget the first time I went to school, at lunch everyone was putting this red stuff on everything. I asked some one what it was and they said it was ketchup. I had never had store bought ketchup before. My Mom always made our ketchup.
When you cook something down to get rid of the water and other things, it is called reduce.
When you cook fats to get the liquid fat out, it is called render.
I have a habit of mixing things up at times too.
The "skimmen's" are not really "impurities" it is protein. not a big deal that you remove it just thought I would let everyone know what it is.
I do the same with my jams, because it just doesn't look nice.
I add a tsp of butter when making jam - haven't had an issue with "foam" since then
@@TwoFamilyHomestead Best solution right there.
I love to garden in back yard and want to order your books.
Danny,I place my lids the same way! Also I have picked up new crock pots T auctions for $2.00. I use them for projects such as this and certain ones designated for soap making. Thank you for sharing this recipe. MY God continue to bless you. Happy Anniversary!
looks really good for a ALL NATURAL KETCHUP!!! I know it sure will taste so much better than the store bought brands thx for sharing XOXO Happy Homesteading
Thanks for taking the time to share this recipe on youtube and is this recipe included in your cookbook from garden to pantry?
Never seen ketchup made before and this is cool
Hi, I don't normally comment on your videos but love most of them. I am glad to see you use old commercial jars to store food. They are perfectly safe for most foods. I have been canning high acid foods in them for years with no problems also year after year I jar my Olives in them .. One thing to note it's not the jars but the lids that need to be in perfect condition.
Appreciate your teaching spirit. Bet the house smelled good!
Making my mouth water , Ty TyVm 🕊️
Well now i have another summer garden recipe....Thank you DSH When my tomatoes come in i am going to try this :)
Yay! I have been waiting on this since the preview! Shared on social Media!
My wife made ketchup a couple years ago and surpassed anything from a store. The next batch she did was even better. Compared to homemade ketchup the storr bought doesnt seem to have any real flavor. Great video. Thanks for the new recipe to try.
With changing over to homemade I've cut things with store bought until family members adjust their taste. Good video. thanks for sharing. thumbs up
You guys are so talented!! I love Ketchup ❤️
Just got through doin 40 quarts spaghetti sauce - ketchup on tues
Hot sauce next Friday start the ferment !
Great videos thanks for sharing !
Thanks for the video. I just canned 5 jars with homemade ketchup :-) All the best from Norway
How many tomatoes did you start with before the puree?
Got the recipe written down. Thank you so much. I shall try it this week.
I was surprised at the fact that you were NOT using canning jars. I thought that was a must. Could you talk a little more about that? Loved the video. Gonna try that next year.
Only when water bath canning do we NOT use a Canning jar.
If you live in Mississippi I'm amazed you even have tomatoes this year with all the rain we've had. Here on the coast we had 23 inches in the month of June, and here at the end of July it isn't any drier. Everything we planted was ruined
Loved the video not having interruptions. So fun!
Awesome job guys looks delicious if I have a good harvest I'll have to try it. I like my tomato sauce and salsa first. 👍🏼
I'm definitely gonna try this!!! Thanks y'all! Love and hugs!!! ~Lisa
OK, now I really want someone to invent taste-a-vision, Danny. You looked like you were enjoying that so much. Neat frugal tip about using the coconut oil jars for water bath canning, too.
I am going to try making some next month when the tomatoes are ready. Thanks again for share another great video.
Do y'all have a video on preparing the tomatoes this process? Another great use for tomatoes! Thanks for another great video.
Now I've got to go find Mom's recipe for ketchup and see how close it is to yours.
~Pam
Hey Pam did the ingreadents from your mom's ketchup match up with Danny's?
It’s very interesting to see how we all make our own family recipes to personal taste! Ours is much thicker, reduced by half- with much more onion and garlic. Thanks for sharing, I think I’d prefer yours for basting a meatloaf ect.
Great recipe, I will do it , thank you, gracias from Uruguay South America
13:08 Danny has a Halo. :-) Thanks for spending the time to share these things with us.
Bahahaha ball.,, I was thinking the same thing!!! Amish paste? Everything homemade tastes better than store bought!✌🏻❤️
Scratch Made Homestead Yes we used our Amish Paste tomatoes we had froze.tHanks
Ok. That didn't look as difficult as I thought it would be. I'm putting this on my list of things to try. Thanks Danny & Wanda! -All the best. ~ Theresa
It looks wonderful! I don't think I have ever had homemade Ketchup.. I'm going to have to try to make it :)
I am following you on making ketchup for the first time . I only got 4 pints but I don’t care . I tasted it while it cooked and to me it was delicious. Waiting for water bath to start boiling and then 15 process . Thank you so much for all your info😀❤️
I'm going to try this when tomatoes are going strong. I tried a ketchup recipe 2 yrs ago & didn't care for it. I do tomato sauces by putting whole clean tomatoes in roaster oven (like for turkey). I usually remove core. I'll leave on all night. In morning, I'll run thru food processor & food mill. So much easier for me than skinning & boiling down more. Then I switch to stock pot like you did to add ingredients & cook down. Roaster leaves a fair amount of liquid. I've added in or excluded & canned like a weak juice. It works fine for recipes that call for tomato juice in casseroles.
Mary Holder Roaster pans and crock pots work good we just didnt have one big enough. Thanks
Add some tomato past so you can stretch your yield or thicken more.
Very enjoyable...never watched ketchup being made :) Thanks!
1/4 teaspoon full of garlic powder for 20 cups of ketchup? I would be using a tablespoon at least. It does look great though. Thanks for this.
Yes indeed , plus a bit more Vinegar too ... Now you're talking ...One thing I've learned to really like in my ketchup , here lately HEINZ has come out with a SPICEY KETCHUP , NOT TOO SPICEY , JUST TANGY , & I JUST LOVE IT , WHOO HOOOO.........
🍅🍅🍅🍅🌶🌶🌶🌶
i'll drive to the store but good to know when there are no more stores
Can't wait to try this. It looks so great, I could almost taste it. Thanks for the jar tip!
Looks delicious!
Oh Danny! That looks so good.
I need to make some of THIS!
Awesomeness!!!❤️
Thanks for video. Great idea for the winter time when my bees are clustering and have time to do this along with my jam making. Thanks again. I really like yalls videos.
Will be making this soon! Most of my tomatoes are still green, except for the cherry tomatoes (western NC). I've always been afraid to try ketchup. My 8 year old eats ketchup on EVERYTHING, so we go through a lot! Thanks for posting this!
Thanks for sharing this! The recipe I use has cinnamon and cloves in it and we just love the flavor.
Pinecroft Danny cant have cinnamon because it messes with your blood pressure. He does like cloces though. Thanks
I'm getting about 200 to 300 tomatoes a day I'm running out of space plus I can't eat high fructose corn syrup but I love katchup. So with that said here I go I have a hundred jars to fill just for this, there goes my weekend. Thank you for this I love it.
You did a great job !
Great recipe!
Looks really yummy. Been waiting on this recipe for a while .
Melody Castello It really turned out good hope ypu can give it a try. Thanks
Absolutely enjoyed this video!... Saving this video for future reference. Thank you so very very much for sharing this!.
Yum.... As soon as my tomato's come in I am making some of this... I shared in my fb group page.. Thank you for sharing...
I watched this video and a few others including Chef John's. I kinda made up my own concoction based on your recipe and his because i didn't have as many home canned crushed tomatoes as you did but way more than he did lol. Tastes good warm and I put a dab in the fridge before I canned and as you did, I added a little more spice. Yummy!
I can't wait to try this!!!! Thanks for sharing
Thank you very much for the recipe! It looks so very good!
I can't wait to try this recipe I'm sure it's going to be delicious thank you for sharing it! Robin
Are these tomatoes some of the ones you put in freezer first. Really want to try it. Wonder what it would taste like if you added a little molasses in it? Next on my list. Thanks for sharing.👍
Barbara Hogan These were all from the freezer this time. Thanks
beautiful! will have to give this a try!
Nice job thanks
Looks good ya'll!
Great recipe!!!
That is some beautiful ketchup. Thanks for the tip about the jars. I just love watching you guy's videos because I always learn something new. Thank you!!-----Tressa Daigle
You need to put the recipe in the description
Looks fantastic! I love ketchup! I make fermented ketchup which is super delicious but the base is organic tomato paste. I'd love to try it starting with whole tomatoes. As always, y'all are inspiring and educational. Thank you!
ChickenStamps We dont use store bought tomato paste after finding out that heinze only uses 2% tomatoes and mercury in its products. It takes a little while but it does cook down thick. Thanks
@DeepSouthHomestead There is other companies that sell organic tomato paste in glass jars. Have you looked into that?
Man this looks good, perfect lesson on ketchup. Saving the jars a great tip. Thank you htgde.
Danny the word I think you're looking for is REDUCING, basically you evaporate the water out so that the real flavour is intensified. I re-use all sorts of Jam jars, if you put the liquid in hot to a hot jar and put a hot lid on to it you'll get a good strong seal. That ketchup will thicken even more once it gets cold won't it? Looks SUPER-YUM.
Essem Sween Yes it gets thicker when it cools. Thanks
Can you please put the recipe in the top comment? Can’t catch it in the video because ad separated it
Hello. I always watching your videos every single day. I love your garden. I would like to order some of your sweet potatoes seeds.
Wow! How exciting! I can't wait to try this. I love me some ketchup too!
Great instruction, thanks tons!
Thank you so very much, lookin forward to this video. I want to quit buying Ketchup.
Stacy Cobb A lot of store ketchup has mercury in it now.And only 2% tomatoes the rest is chemicals and high fructose corn syrup. Thanks
Looking good 🙂
Lol that's the firs thing I thought when I saw that they were not ball jars. How will Danny lid the jar! Thanks to Danny I have to put my lid on to match up with the ball logo now also. I am like that at work, everything must be grocery store organized!
Awesome
strain off some of the juice , Found it save cooking time! i use starch to thicken it up! Saves cooking time as well I like mine spicy So i add cayenne pepper, jalapeno peppers or red pepper flakes to my taste ! Yes i grow my own tomato's! I blend them up skin seeds and all. with salt and cayenne pepper. Then put into plastic bags and freeze them until i want to make a sauce or ketchup ect. That the base
Looks fabulous!!
I use to can home made ketchup.I agree nothing like store bought, for sure .Home made is so much better
I would love to try this
Thank you for sharing! All the best from Norway :-)
Looks really good..Going to try this..Thank You for sharing .. :)
Danny, you might try using a bulb baster to suck the stuff off the top of the tomatoes as they cook. Looks like you are going to end up with some really tasty ketchup!
We are a ketchup loving family!!! 🍅
Skimming the FOAM off. it's a starch, that's all.
I just tasted a packet of ketchup from a fast food place. It has been 30 years or more since I bought a bottle of ketchup, but this packet tasted like syrup. Heinz, what have you done?
