    This was also a matter of Christianity becoming legal and the Emperor wanting to know what was becoming legal. This was a visible question at that time and needed an answer. People make false claims of what Christianity is to this day, we just don't have to come up with an answer.

    In my opinion this has been such a sticking point because us humans imagine we can understand and describe the nature of God. We can't. Our language and our simple minds fall short when it comes to knowing and expressing what and how He is.

      @kombuchababy6542 we can imagine, and in doing that, we "create God in our own image." The OT is clear that God (the Father) is not a man lest he be mocked. Theologians argued forever that God is unlimited, but when we describe God, by describing that Limits God and God can't be limited. I know to some that may be like splitting hairs but it is where some others like me are coming from.

      @@kombuchababy6542no that's modalism. The trick is to not describe God through analogy. It's closer to describing a paradox that isn't.

    The council of Nicaea was like the Sanhedrin judging Jesus. They didn’t invite most, in whom had points of contention with those who were invited?
    Namely from Judiah, and the Eastern congregations. In addition, there were not a few, who disagreed with the Trinitarian stance. But after much deliberation and near mayhem. And under threat of anathema and excommunication from the Universal/ Catholic Church. All but two abdicated
    their view on the matter. As they were also under pressure from emperor Constantine to resolve the issue.
    Council of Nicaea, circa 325AD.
    As chronicled be Eusebius of Caesarea.
    Just as when the Sanhedrin neglected to call up rabbis who had come to believe Yeshua/ Jesus to be the long awaited Messiah, when they passed judgment on Him. Circa 30AD
    Facts are a stubborn thing- John Adams.

    I agree with Nicea, and that the conclusions of Nicea were simply making official the already-consensus view, but the vote count was certainly affected by who was invited in the first place. The exile-return cycle of Athanasius seems to suggest that there were more than just a couple Arians.

    Actually, in the Gospel of John Jesus was very clear on his relationship to the Father. Chapter 3 Jesus calls himself the only begotten Son. Chapters 5 and 6 Jesus said his Father gave him life. Chapters 16 and 17 Jesus repeats over and over that he was born of the Father and sent. John 17:3 Jesus calls his Father the only true God and mentions himself separately. The God, the one true God is not a Trinity, but a singular being who is the source of life for everything else that lives. Jesus is that one true God's only genetic offspring. There, mystery solved.

      Except He also said, "I and the Father are one." "Long before Abraham, I AM."
      Sounds like He's saying He's God.
      Then John goes and says that all that was made was made through Christ, and that there was nothing made that wasn't made through Him.
      Sounds like His disciples actively taught that He's God.

      Here is a classic example of taking the Bible as a two winged bird. On one hand the original comment seems to suggest one thing, whilst the second comment above me suggests another and they are both correct even though I feel the first commentor's conclusion doesn't allow the Bible and the authors of the Bible to say what they intend to say. Jesus Christ was truly God and was truly man. He must have had both character traits and He must have described Himself that way and be described in such a manner. But if you take one view and ignore the other it is like a bird trying to take off with one wing, guess what it will remain grounded.
      I love the way the commenter to the original comment has phrased his reply... "but it also says..." Now this is the second wing. Now you can take off.
      Be blessed. 😊

    • @gregblake2764
      @gregblake2764 2 місяці тому +1

      @MotleyNerd Yes, and the Bible says that a husband and wife are also one. It doesn't mean they are a single being. A lot of the confusion comes from the term God. God is not a name, it is a state of being. The Greek word is theos which means deity or our common usage of the word god. There is only one true God, meaning there is a singular deity who is the source of everything else that exists. That deity exists outside of space and time, has always existed, will always exist, and is the sole source of life. Jesus called that deity his Father and consistently made it clear that he is the genetic offspring of the one true God and was given his authority by his Father. John 1:14-18 clearly states that Jesus is God the Father's one and only son. As God's only direct offspring of course Jesus is also deity (god). The I AM statement in John 8 is a misleading translation. Jesus was not declaring himself to be the God of the Old Testament. All he was claiming is that he was already in existence before Abraham was even born. Jesus never claimed to be the God or equal to the God. In summary: Jesus claimed to be the Son of the God, Jesus has always been in subjection to the God, received authority over all of creation from his Father, and, according to scripture, participated in creation with his Father.

    • @chrism.1421
      @chrism.1421 Місяць тому

      @@gregblake2764 By my understanding, a God (as the term is used in the bible), is not a state of being either. Rather, it is "a thing woshipped". Worship of Saturn is different than worship of Diana, because they are different gods with different philosophies.
      However, there is zero difference between worship of the Father and worship of the Son - to worship one is to worship the other in the same way. So, they are one God.

      God inspires people to write, and so this is why it's called the word of God. Why people think it'd be without any error at all is not reasonable, however it's not error as having erroneous ideas, but errors of misspellings, and misunderstanding on our modern part because they were written at a different time when culture and language was completely different to ours. We tend to read as if it was written in modern times and for our people and culture. We need to read it with the lens of the past to understand what they were trying to convey and only then look for modern applications which there are many.
