      Absolutely! I just got the ML60 and ML60bi in for review, if you're looking for another light and the possibility in need of some tunsten use. I'm actually quite impressed by the ML60bi. Essentially the same output as the UL60 in daylight mode, very very silent fan (Air movement sound, no motor sound) and super portable. Can't wait to finish up that review for you all!

      Definitely could work for a dark venue type setting so you could even use some softlight for the guitarist. I wonder how technically bright are normal bar venue stage lights. I feel like each light may be similar to this output.

      Thanks as always for commenting! I reviewed their SL150 II awhile ago that may fit the bill when you upgrade to bright COB without the need for battery. It also has a silent mode where it turns off the fan and gets you more or less a silent UL60.

    I'll be hoping some retailers put the original SL-60W on sale if Godox is positioning the new version for the same target customer. The SL-60W fit my circumstances perfectly when it came out and still does. The price hasn't gone up since Fall 2019. Manufacturers are leaving money on the table if they think of continuously pushing their brand name up the scale out of reach for entry level users so I hope that's not the case.

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  3 роки тому

      Hey hey again Charliebrm1!
      I'd be ok with the SL60w staying in the same price range if they update it to work with their newer lineup. Maybe give it the control box with v-mount, allow use with the new smartphone app, and updating the fan to be silent instead of people changing it out on their own. Just something as the SL60w is really robust for what it is and the price point is quite good. But it needs a big update for sure.

      Hey hey again Henri!
      It's definitely a nice setup, if I don't go fully Aputure I could see myself going into the UL lineup for a completely silent set. The only thing I wish is that the UL150 uses the same smartphone app.

      I currently use the Laofas softboxes 47" on my Godox 60s and 150s. But honestly you can get just about any Bowens mount softbox you want and it'll work just fine. ua-cam.com/video/kK8lSclsp8A/v-deo.html (my laofas review)
      The only difference in cheaper versions is that they may not have the quick setup function, no grid, no first layer diffusion, or main diffusion layer lets more light through instead of stoping the light a little bit to get the entire layer lit up for softest light. But in general this is not as big of a deal in the grand scheme of things as most people watching won't really see the minute difference.
      Hope this helps!

    $299 seems completely fine considering the fanless design, better color accuracy, battery operation, and remote control. One question regarding your color accuracy test. Few cameras actually give perfectly-accurate colors even with true daylight. Did you apply color corrections before checking the vectorscope? And if so, how did you do the correction? (This is something I've struggled with, and appreciate any ideas that may help get true colors.)

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  3 роки тому +1

      Hey hey again Alan!
      For my color tests over the years I have remained performing all of them with the GH5 in Natural Color mode (most color accurate mode without odd color science), manually dialing the Kelvin to 5600k or whatever the LCD of the light thinks it's at, and performing no color correction in post. I do it this way so that we can see just how close the lights LCD kelvin reading is between all the lights I've reviewed while staying, for the most part, as color accurate as I can get without purchasing a $3000 spectrometer.
      Generally speaking the "natural" color profile on most cameras will look the most "what you see if what you get" on a camera in terms of color. It will still have its slight contrast curve that could make the levels look darker or brighter, but for the most part it looks the most neutral. All the other color profiles on cameras like "standard" are usually pretty harsh and will have a color saturation bump to try and give you a basic look without need for color grading. In my opinion I find Natural to look the most pleasing.
      For reference, in all my videos for the last 2 years with the GH5 and now Sony. My talking head is the natural profile without any color correction. All I do is set to Natural, do a custom white balance, adjust background light level with either lights of ISO bump as needed to get my background a certain luma level. Lastly dial the key light output so that my face is around the 50-70IRE luma levels and boom, thats it.
      Hope this idea helps get you the colors you want without needed to color grade. This method of course also works with the other profiles if you want more punch in color or contrast. You just custom white balance and adjust the key lights, fill, and background light as needed until you achieve the look you are going for.

    Need this in a bi-color version and I'm sold. Especially if it doesn't do the weird things with modifiers that the Aputure 200X does. I have the Nanlite 60W bicolor and the fan is intolerable.

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  3 роки тому +1

      Hey hey again Lorenzo!
      I believe Godox has a ML60 bi-color in the works? Which kinda stinks because its a proprietary mini bowens mount instead of a full bowens. Not sure about the fan noise on the ML60 though in general. I think Godox needs to continue developing their UL line up in general with more options. Having an entire line up thats fanless from Daylight, Bi-color, RGB at 60w - 150w - and heaven have mercy a 300w.... they'd capture so much of the market with that

    • @zoanyway
      @zoanyway 3 роки тому

      @@TLDR_filmmaker thing about fanless 300W is that you're a little less likely to place that so close to the talent. The 60W bicolor is is something I (hoped to) use for hairlights, eyelight, etc. The Nanlight offers a cheap Bowens adapter, and would be pretty great if only the fan were quiet (or non-existent)!

    Are you going to be reviewing the godox sz200bi

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  3 роки тому

      Hey hey again hoodaffairstv!
      Probably not as Godox didn't have plans for me to do so, however if compared to the SZ150r that I reviewed, its essentially the same design and that SZ150r was the first bi-color COB that I felt the color quality was good in tungsten and daylight. So my best guess is that the SZ200bi will reflect the same and give you higher output than the 60 series but not as much as a 150 series.

      @@TLDR_filmmaker 😥 i was hoping that it would be a notch more powerful than my vl150

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  3 роки тому

      It would be nice if it was. The general rule of thumb is if you see 200w for a bi-color light, its most likely dividing the total power so only 100w to Daylight and 100w to Tungsten. Some companies will actually be truthful with their marketing language, but without seeing tests or reaching their technical data its hard to determine if its actually what they say it is.

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  3 роки тому

      Hey hey again _AC_!
      Definitely in a dark reception hall this light will be bright if the light is near the dance floor, if you're planning to have the light much further away then you may want something brighter. It unfortunately just depends on the venue in which case you may want to look into the more powerful UL150 to cover your bases.

    Great review (again!)! I would love a powerful fanless solution and upgrade to my studio light in my yoga studio. Would this be powerful enough? I'm currently using the Neewer Softbox, 3200-5600K 48W Dimmable LED Light. the Neewer led didn't give enough light for my space. Any suggestions?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  3 роки тому +1

      Hey hey again Chocolate Twist Yoga!
      These 60w class LEDs will definitely give you a substantial amount of light compared to the 48w LED going through a softbox (Because you're actually only using about 25-30w of power on any of the color temps. The next step up past these 60w are the SL150 class of LED's. It really depends on how far you have the light away from you in the studio. If you want to compare the light data of all these lights that I've reviewed you can check them out at TLDRfilmmaker.com
      Reminder that all my light output tests are done from 6ft away, so that'll give you an idea if the 60w would be enough for you or if you might need the 150w class LED.

      Hey hey Naturecall Akbar!

      I unfortunately do not have the ML 60. I believe the ML60 puts out approximately the same output, its just smaller and requires a proprietary bowens mount adaptor to use it with standard bowens accessories. This bowens design was the main reason I wasn't a fan of the ML60, I felt it was unnecessary to follow that design when Sokani X60 did don't it.
