    When setting the gains in this manner, the load should be connected to the output of the amplifier. The no-load voltage at the output is much higher than the voltage with load. The method used here will still yield clipped/saturated output signals to the woofers which you were initially trying to avoid. That aside, good video!

    You should try cutting up old RCA female and male ends, strip down the insulation, separate positive and negative, and use that to connect to the RCA cables rather than the alligator clips. Its much faster and safer. I tune my system the same way with a oscilloscope, its the only true way to go, gives you more insight as to what is going on in your sound system than any other tool.

    How’s it going brother!
    Been learning so much from you and your vids, thank you for your time and effort!
    Got a request: I’m someone who has a factory head unit, an Audiocontrol Lc2i, an Audiocontrol bass restorer, and an aftermarket amplifier. I’m sure I’m not the only one with the extra bells and whistles :)
    Can you please teach us where to start checking for clipping, and where to go after each step until we’re done tuning for clipping?
    Thanks again brother!!

    You should tin your speaker wire leads at the speaker output on the amp to have full contact with all of the conductors.

    Thinking about the imbalance on the 4 channel, is it possible to have an inconstant read by alligator clip to loose grub screws? May be better off with a bare wire lead or probe tip actually clamped into the amp's terminals.

      Good point. I also think it would be a better readout with a dummy load connected, or if you don't mind the noise, with the actual speakers connected. Turn up the volume until clipping. Or just listen, if you're not deaf allready lol.

    To really ensure you're clean of distortion, the load certainly plays a role. The amp can either run out of voltage or current-driving capability and it'll clip.

    you would have to take off the case bottom of the amp and find out which potentiometer controls what channel... theres secondary pots in the amp that are the fine tune for the outputs and you can match the gains so they have the same output on the main pots on the outside of the amplifier per set of channels

    QUESTION: What does it mean when on the oscilloscope at the top of every wave my amp shows a thick crinkly snow-like cap as if a mountain top covered in snow?? I'm setting my gains before clipping and it constantly shows these snow-top mountain like waves. If I were to guess, it would equate to a dirty 8,000 RMS watts but before I jump to conclusions I thought I should ask the AMP PRO (that's you!). I have screenshots of it I could email you if helpful. THANK YOU!

    Good video but when setting the amp gain i'm pretty sure it should be done with the amps under load. Setting the output just below clipping gets in the ballpark but without a load isn't really very accurate. The amps WILL clip at a lower voltage under load.

      Okay, one thing he isn't mentioning in these videos is even though these amps are tunned so they don't clip, you can still overpower your subwoofer/speakers. You've gotta remember these systems are designed for comps. If you're cruising around just listening to music I doubt you'll be hitting 151db. Tune to find the clipping point of the amplifier then adjust the gain so you're getting the maximum rms voltage of your subwoofer/speaker. Use ohms law. I would also install a bass knob so you don't have to mess with your preamps. Just what one guy is thinging. But since EXO doesn't respond we don't know why he tunes amps the way he does.

  • @NvTwist
    @NvTwist 7 років тому +2

    Does it matter if the vehicle is running or not? Should it be running and producing enough amperage to feed the amp to get max output?
    I ask cause if your running off the battery at 12v, set everything to gat max clean power then later while your driving and amp getting 14v+ wouldn't cranking the volume to max cause issues?

    • @amorton94
      @amorton94 7 років тому

      NvTwist I don't think there would be an issue. You're just sending more power and it's tuned to be clean at less power, so it will be under tuned at full power

    • @NvTwist
      @NvTwist 7 років тому

      amorton94 I wonder because let's say the amp is dialed/tuned to & outputing 600w (voltage output measured) while @ 12v then after starting and running on alt @14v+ would the output remain at the previous voltage measurement/watts as before. I'd think the readings would be higher which means over driving speakers. I'm aware the difference wouldn't be enough to create any issues or damage the drivers. Just a thought I had and when you go to such lengths to perfect the system setup it could be worth a look or test. I'm not running my system Setup to perfection or competition but there are those that do which is why my questioning came up in my head. Maybe I'll test the theory myself one day but it's to damn hot in vegas during the summer so it'll have to wait till fall.

      Subsonic means your subwoofer won't play anything below that note. Just like a high pass filter but for lower frenquencies. I've seen a lot of amps that have one setting at 25hz. I usually go between 6 to 8 hz lower than my tuning frequency

  • @craigl.4550

      The app is to be used with a special microphone that can accurately measure the db's. Didn't you hear him say we got the SSA meter up on the dash.Your phones microphone is wimpy and can't measure accurately anything over 100 decibels. It's common sense that the phone mic is not strong enough. Haven't you ever seen a you tube video of a concert. The sound quality is always distorted because of the extreme SPL at a rock concert. It's just flapping all around while trying to record loud SPL. Perfectly fine for talking though which is what phones are really meant for, even the smart ones LoL.

      With just 2 12's you shouldnt need an upgraded alternator, maybe try adding a farad capacitor or a deep cycle battery between the amp and cars batt.

    • @facetime9156
      @facetime9156 4 роки тому

      Keeping your battery charged will keep the load off alternator. That will keep you from upgrading and stressing it. Capacities are dangerous in my opinion. Mine didn’t work bad $40. Make sure you look at big 3. That will let you look at your engine plus you can add bigger wire ie big3. It will be easy to read about. You can check battery first if any corrosion. Oh and your grounding for subs. Multimeter will help that. Good luck plus see what others off of google have done with your car as far as upgrading

    ahh yea I see distro blocks, but guess it won't hurt for both fused.
    that is a first for me....
    also is 40hz the recommended tone for setting or is it better for the hz your system is loudest, like my 4th uses 63hz & roughly 43 hz.

    I’m working on Two projects and I believe by watching your videos I may need a 4” Dayton woofer. I’ve made a box about 16” wide and 8”deep. I an using one of the small T116 boards that is 125 x 125 x125 for bass. I ended up putting two 6” and two 4” water proof with built in tweeters and a Bazooka 8” woofer in it. The speaker sounds good for what I made the box for, to be able to hear the TV over our hot tub but the bass just isn’t good enough. I’m on a tight budget and have to save all I can. I didn’t put a port in the box but was wondering if a 4” Dayton wouldn’t be better? That’s the first thing I need you advice on. The second thing is I want to put a tub style setup on my golf cart using the same board and maybe all Dayton speaker. 4”pipe isn’t as noticeable and I could use up to 4” speakers in it. Basically I want it to have good clear bass not destroyed but have enough to enjoy the sound while using it. Could you please give me suggestions on setup and the model Dayton speakers I need for each project? The end on the Bluetooth amp rms was surprisingly there but the speakers won’t so I added the two 4” speakers and wired them in series. That got them to sounding as good as you can expect but I think the 8” Bazooka is just not a quality speaker. And on the pipe just let me know how many and if the Daytons are what I need. My email address is goodale@shtc.net thank! If you could help me out. I’d really appreciate it! I had to get the tub and cart because of my health issues! I am alone most of the time and enjoy music! Thanks again!

    Have you had a Chance to use the NANO OSCOPE? I see them on eBay, just wondering how well they work. I'm just looking to tune my system.

    @EXOcontralto, Man this Video helped so much, just being able to see you connect "what to where" plus the good video quality, very nice sir, very nice. i do have some questions though, how do you find out what Frequency to play for each type of speaker, Sub, mid and tweeters? i know sub-woofers dont like higher than 80 and tweeters dont like lows, i understand that but what or where can i find the specific Hz. or is it just a play by ear thing? also is there anyway for you to show where the head unit's EQ was? did you tune that or just leave it were it comes stock? thanks!!! im new to this, but trying to learn as much as i can. thanks again!

    Have you seen Barevids' video on setting amplifier gains? He showed us that amplifier gains that are set without being loaded (no speaker load attached) clip as soon as you attach the ohm load. Have you thought about that? Can you respond to that?

      It's all dependent on multiple factors, not just the existence of a load. I've dealt with many amps that behave just fine. Would be an interest comparison video from each board to the next!

    Great video I wish I had been able to see this process in real life when I was young. Would have made my life a lot easier on a few occasions. One thing that I am unclear on though is that you are measuring the voltage of the RCA out of the headunit and amp output with only the impedance of the Oscope- wouldn't the voltage be different when the circuits have a real world load on them? No one has mentioned this and it's surprising

    Is there any way that you can connect me to this gentleman. I live in Vermont and judging by his license plate, he also lives in Vermont. I feel like I'm all alone out here with no bassheads in my area

    Watched your other tuning video and used my oscope to tune my cheap BOSS 4 channel amp, 2 channels bridged are for my sub, other two run the mids/highs. It sounds really good! Can't wait to get a monoblock for the sub! Even budget audio can sound great when properly installed!
