Observation: In my parent's and grandparent's day the"Middle Class" did NOT have a swimming pool, gymnasium, or even central HVAC. They had no smart TVs, cable service, internet, and iPhones in their pocket and they did not rely on credit cards for routine expenses. Maybe, just maybe she is living beyond her means? Me? When times were tough I drove a Yugo and lived with a roommate. Should she be living in a mobile hime and share costs with a roommate?

Even in the US, it was always this hard to survive until after World War II. People worked on farms, then in factories, then had the Great Depression. We had a mostly good run for about 60 years (1946-2006). Actually my theory is that this current situation is mostly the unintended consequence of women entering the work force to such an extent, which finally resulted in the housing market pricing out households with one middle class income instead of two.

It took pocket change to buy a house. Cash on the barrel head. Now, it's the up and coming suburb of the surrounding Philadelphia suburbs. You should see the houses of the people who commute to NYC. @@independ4416 Those type of rentals require one to be at or below the artificially low poverty line. Most on SSA receive just above that which, in turn, disqualifies them for these rentals. The Feds set them at that level on purpose! And then anything through a rental company requires a household income of rent times 3. A very large majority of seniors do not qualify for that. Heck, many from any age bracket do not qualify for that very reason.
Then you have younger people telling them to go get a job. First off, due to an aging body, many cannot work most jobs. And even those who can and are willing to, cannot get hired because of extreme age discrimination. By the way, just because you do see a lot of seniors working, doesn't mean those places will hire you. You have to keep in mind the saturation factor. There are only so many jobs, but a whole lot more people looking who cannot even get an interview, let alone hired. And just because they have a sign or an ad, doesn't mean that they are actually hiring. That's a whole other nasty can of worms.

Thank you 🙏 there are many more details explaining some of the factors that contributed to extremely limited (almost none at all) options. To have not signed the lease at this complex would have been a huge gamble. And moving to a cheaper place is not nearly so simple as many seem to think. I’ve included deeper details in the gofundme. It’s realllly long lol. Even that however is a very abbreviated version of what we have and continue to face.
I’ve tried to avoid looking at the comments. It’s just best I think. I happened to just glance at your comment tho and thought I’d take a minute to say thank you for picking up on and pointing out my mention of few options and believing me when I said that. There is so much more to our story than what has been told, and I would gladly move myself and family into a cheaper rental if given the opportunity. I’ve lived with 3 children out of a minivan before and very literally sought out the safest looking bush or dumpster to sleep behind in my past. I have no problem living in smaller places, or out of a van or rv. We’ve survived coping with so much less. Even the apartments we were forced to leave were full of registered sex offenders, criminals, those freshly out of prison, and the meth troubles at that complex were insane. Still tho, I could lock the door and pray for safety. I lived there because my credit and rental history were poor, and this complex had a reputation for taking anyone. Also had reputation for bug infections, mold, very poor maintenance, but was best I could get in that moment.
I would even listen to the suggestions from those who believe I’ve made poor decisions and could be doing life better. If there’s something they could teach me I would be very open to that and grateful for advice that could truly reduce some of my hardships. I haven’t received feedback yet tho that takes everything into consideration that landed me right here, right now. But I would listen and either put the advice to good use or explain how and why it has not been an option for me in the past.
It is comforting to know some understand, care, and recognize the need for a major course correction within our society which fuels this cycle. I know it’s important to recognize our mistakes, take responsibility for our actions, and make changes that produce more desirable outcomes. That eternal truth applies not only to individuals, but also groups/communities/nations as a whole. Conditions in this nation have developed and kept thriving that hold families in this pattern. Those who do absolutely everything in their power to escape this cycle remain trapped. It takes so much more than their hard work alone to get out of this. As a nation there has to be a decision to change conditions in such a way that those giving their all have the ability to attain the most bare basic necessities of life in exchange for their labor. Collectively as a nation, responsibility for these problems has not been realized yet and an appropriate level of responsibility assumed to change these conditions. So they persist. It’s easier to point fingers at those in this position as the irresponsible, slothful ones that aren’t doing enough.
Sorry I’m long winded lol… thanks again though. Every expression of understanding and care really mean a lot. 😊

a rental property. Property taxes for a modest single family home alone is
like $400 - 600 a month. This is in smaller cities where housing prices are
under 400K. Where this woman is that place looks pretty much upscale.
There are probably much less expensive places in other areas of that city.
What I am seeing is that she has decided to live in an area that
is not affordable for her. Kind of like the guy who buys
a $70K pickup while making 40K a year and who complains about
the cost of everything. I see a lot of people like that where I live in
Florida. People who have $120K worth of vehicles in the driveway along with a boat and
a couple ATV's while complaining they can't make ends meet. Well?
It's called living within your budget. I do know some landlords who do screw people.
The properties are not taken care of yet they charge top dollar for rent.
But, most are just trying to cover costs and make a couple hundred a month profit.
The woman in this video seems like a good example of a person not living within
her budget. A place like that complex would be out of reach for most people I know.
But the people I know find a cheaper place and have no where near the problems this woman is having.

People who love to judge have grandparents, aunts, uncles, family friends who help but for many they have no one to help and therefore they fall behind and trust me it does not take much. Life will throw many things at you at once and if you do not have that support system it will knock you straight to the ground and when you are there people will think oh she had drug problems, alcohol problems, mental problems or no morales. My brother and I were alone at home in Kindergarten with no food to many times to count cuz my mom had to work to pay for those over inflated bills. I hate to say it but those times are coming again for many families and so many precious children will suffer.

Fast forward to 2023... THEY FINALLY ANSWER EVERYONES PRAYERS!!! $15.00 minumim wage!!!!!!!!.. But of course the issue is that the cost of living went up. You need to be making $35.00 per hour to cover your basic expenses these days. My God, I thought our situation was dire, but she’s got me beat. I am in a homeless situation with health problems probably stemming from years of stress, so I can’t work and my 23-year-old daughter is running into the same situation here in Connecticut. Everybody is out to take advantage of people. I’ve been sitting crying for days and days. There really isn’t a solution in sight for me and my daughter and I know it could be a hell of a lot worse and that scares the shit out of me every day all day. All of this has put a serious toll on my mental health my depression and anxiety and complete hopelessness is devouring me. I’ve been running like an absolute machine, raising two children and all the issues that come up like the lady with her daughter having MS. I just know this is not going to end well for me and countless others like the lady on this video. Physical health problems, mental and emotional problems, and then they get passed down through the generations like the daughters still have anxiety about being homeless from when they were put in the orphanage. It’s a total catch 22. I’ve always been a dreamer and had hope but society has other plans. I’ll stop ranting and complaining I just am hurting and I feel so bad for everybody in this situation. Kind of seems like it’s easier to live in a tent somewhere where it’s warm then to let these evil money hungry people kill us slowly. One last thing what really kills me is the feeling of complete failure, the low self-esteem, the shame and my feelings of complete incompetence. The lady in this video shows so much strength and all the ways that she works to make extra money. She’s talented and educated and her daughter is even a nurse. And now one small slip one teeny issue, and you could be done and backslide for years and maybe never even recover. So cruel.

My mom continued to clean up her mess (financial, personal, everything!) and be her responsible rock until her death. It angered me because a child shouldn't have to parent THEIR parent. That being said, I would do ANYTHING for my mom so I understand. I just feel bad for Savannah the most in this situation. The more money they give out the worst inflation is probably going to get and the higher it's going to drive up the cost of everything. It's sad to say but we need a hard recession to bring cost back down. I feel for these people I really do. We've all got one chance to make it right here in the next year at voting time which even then whoever gets in there is not going to be able to fix this right away.
