This is very helpful. I’m 6’4 185lbs. My wingspan isn’t too long, I have a large torso rather than long limbs, My wingspan is mostly shoulder width rather than arms. (Asian genetics.) To further explain that point my one hand reach decreases by about 4-6inches maybe more when I try to evaluate my two handed reach.
I can dunk off a dropstep, a spin, and a pro hop. The problem is I struggle hard to generate power and explosiveness off a sprint or run. All my dunks are just pure brute force.
The points here are extremely true, when I jump, I feel mostly my lower back rather than my glutes and posterior chain, and I’m not swinging my arms enough. I’ve been trying really hard to be able to dunk explosively off a fast break or a drive but I can’t. I’ll work on the weaknesses that were mentioned in this video. Thanks a lot!

I agree with the fundamentals here that explosive training is critical to jumping high (I was a D1 high jumper), but it is also very injury prone. So there should be a big red flag to share these exercises without that cautionary note and the importance of gradually training. Someone gets a bone bruise or tears the Achilles jumping into these sorts of drills without building up and you have to feel bad they may not have resources to get back to 100%.

Greetings, we think leaning just a bit forward similar to Superman is good, because it helps you to use the acceleration and pass, shoot or dunk, quicker, but you have to protect yourself with the other hand. In the jumping final phase should be an ankle extension take off, rather than the glutes, and the single leg jumps should be done at sand. is what would keep you away from injuries. All The Best !

Literally all these vertical jump UA-camrs are promoting heavy lifting and rarely promote actually jumping.
How often a week do you suggest I train plyometrics.
And how often do you suggest I train lower body strength sessions (because even tho i understand they're not important for increasing vert directly, they will still help increase my strength and possibly reduce injury)

People are born with type 1 or type 2 muscle fibers. Sprinter or endurance athlete.. If your not born as a sprinter with type 1 muscle's you will never jump high, you might train yourself from 20-30 inches. but that will be it for you. You might have lots of Type 2 muscle fibers that use Oxygen as fuel they are Slow but last forever .. A huge part of the black population that came from west of Afrika have long arms and long legs short torso = no extra weight that dont help you jump .. Living in the Heat of Africa for 1000s of generation's will do that arms and legs cool your body more than your Torso.. Also Malaria travel in the Red blood cells, so over 1000s of generations the people with the lowest Red blood cells survived .. And when you have low amount of Red blood cells your body develop allot of Type 1 muskel fibers as they dont run on Oxygen.

Like Throwing a ball Hard- Boxjump- 60m track race 100m track race, Any situation where I need Tons of power fast I beat 95%.. But as soon as we do anything longer, like 1 mile run- 2k rowing challenge- 100km Bikerace ..Marathon running I Sux .. My muscles work on Latic acid not Oxygen .. My Vert jump with out any training was 36" played basketball for 10 years as well with training I got it to 40" But my legs was giving up by the last 10 min of a game as I had no stamina .. Some people are 50/50 and can do both kinda well .. But try to google a bit I am sure there are people with better ways of explaining this =) ..

You still got time bro. I couldn't touch till 10-11 grade, now I can easily grab it from a standstill and am pretty close to being able to dunk (haven't tried recently). Just make sure you keep doing jump related workouts and keep in shape. You're probably still growing too, so the added height will help along the way. If you don't already, play a sport, since that can also help you consistently stay fit. I started track this year and it has helped me a lot, I've always been a good jumper, but didn't workout. Early last month I checked my vertical, and 27" is the highest I got. Now I can jump over 32", so all you have to do is keep working at it, and give yourself breaks if you need them. Along the way, you'll realize jumping isn't just about legs, especially of you incorporate it in a sport you're doing, so you'll also wanna make sure you have a strong core (abs) and shoulders as well, it's pretty much a full body workout, flexibility is also important as well like stated in the video

Ja Morant dunks easily and is floating above the rim like its nothing, while steph barely gets up with both hands fully stretched and Kyrie can't really dunk (at least I've not seen him ever do it).
