  • I bought a 2004 Ford Freestar for $500 that needed some work. My older sister helped out with repair costs and I did a typical tune up on it (Spark Plugs, Spark Plug Wires, Oil Change with a new Oil Filter, new Air Filter). We bought/fixed this for our younger sister who just had her 3rd child and needs a bigger/better vehicle than she has, but can't afford anything after bills are paid. She was very grateful for it and got very emotional when she had found out what we had done for her.

I would have given $500.00 in a heartbeat. I have owned a Freestar since 2008, and still have it. It is pushing 200k. Never has there been a problem. The Freestar has also been the best vehicle I have ever had. The Freestar is built tough, and is rugged. I have also kept the fluids changed. If you have to change the coil, you may have to take the upper outer, and lower cowl off. The lower cowl has to be resealed with silicone, and camper tape to keep the water out of the PCM. My mechanic has a lift, and he was able to change the spark plugs up on the lift from behind, and did not have to take the cowl off. My mechanic also said he works on mini Van's all the time. He said the Ford Freestar is also the best mini van available because it does not require a lot of repairs. I was also informed the Chrysler and Honda offerings have transmission problems. I have also seen another Freestar with 600,000 miles on it that was still on the road.

OMG, that's a steal. Especially for a limited package. How did you find it for that price?

I was pass down a non running 2005 freestar. (Clogged fuel injectors didnt allow it to start. Bad fuel pump. Replaced it. The transmission went out. 217000 miles. Pulled it out myself and getting it looked at now. No check engine lights for me

Hope it's a good vehicle for you once the trans is fixed. So far this van has been a good running, reliable vehicle.

@gwilliesgarage I hope so, too. I'd use it to haul around my tools, basically. Maybe the occasional road trip. The van sat for years. Before we parked it they had done some engine work to it. We parked it because of transmission issues. Now it's mine. The engine sounds great. It's just an issue with transmission, which will hopefully be resolved with a rebuild. Since while everything out. I'll so the rear main seal and inner /outter tie rod. Engine mounts. Transmission mount, new axles. Basically, I'm trying to get it to where I hopefully don't have to take it apart for a while after the transmission gets put back in, haha. Other I know have freestars as well, and they have had to replace a few things, but they swear they are actually pretty good vans.

@@gwilliesgarage I was about to buy one, but the gears take to long to shift (no kicks or hard shift), I know that are only 3 gears but I don't know if this was normal
