Sad to see so many pubs close down. Its the same here in Ireland. Pubs are important places for socializing and entertainment for people. When a pub closes, a space for people for people to come together also vanishes.
Supermarkets have done no favours to pubs, I fully understand times are hard for many people, but if we don't use pubs they will sadly close, many will never reopen. I also love the social interaction of a pub, people watching, bumping into folk, making new friendships all the time. Great video Dave, I totally agree matey, a pub in a town or village is the heartbeat. 🍺
Spot on Al....people says drinking at home cheaper but I can go to the Albert in Douglas, 6 local ales on cask for £3 upwards to £3.70, socialise, darts, pool, heating on TV, great value I think..cheers Al👍🍺
Such a shame that those great old buildings are no longer working pubs. Wonderful to see the Central back open, it is such a great location. My friends and I stayed a short walk from Ramsey in 2022 down at Milntown. We plan to return next year, and will be spending plenty of time in Ramsey. Had a great evening in the Traf and had a photo taken with a couple of friendly Manx coppers. Thanks for bringing back the great memories, Dave.
Fantastic to see where you work brilliant. Always love looking around your beautiful island. Always makes me a bit sad seeing closed pubs. Happy ending seeing the Central opening again 👍🍻 your knowledge always blows me away. Great episode again cheers 🍻👍
Great vlog, that always shows the IOM in a great light. As soon as I get some money together, I think I'll be coming over. I used to work for RM as well, between 1989 and 2002. I did plenty of night shifts on the old LSM. Best job I ever had, some great characters, camaraderie etc etc. You are correct in saying its not what it used to be, once the monopoly went its death warrant was sealed, and I don't think its got too long left as the RM we came to know and love. It breaks my heart to walk past a postie these days, no eye contact, no hello, no cheeky smile, nearly all the posties did these things without thinking when I worked there back in the day. Mind you can't blame the posties of today, starting their deliveries at 10am, working part time, getting paid for 23 hours and probably working 30+, still out at 3pm in the afternoon, even seen them at this time on a Saturday, never happened before 2000, would've been back home or in the pub at 1pm. The only downside was the amount of overtime I had to work to make ends meet with having a young family at the time. 14 hours days but working in a huge sorting office meant there were plenty of opportunities, where we could slope off early, go to the pub at lunchtime or go home and see the missus for an hour or so, all helped to break up a long day, between 8am and 930pm
We went on strike in 2019 coz IOM post office wanted to bring in a new rate for newcomers and save our pension...we managed to do that latter but now we have a 2 tier pay n conditions systems. Us old guys working alongside new employees earning less, less holidays, no sick pay in some cases. It's unfair. Also correct, we are more than posties..pulling wheels bins out for customers, checking on the elderly etc. Great comments Ronnie👍🍺👏
Some machine that Dave, sad pubs closing as they are especially as they have stood so long they are a link to the past and hold such history, it's refreshing to hear one reopening I hope it does well and speaking of refreshing some nice looking pints consumed there m8 👍 cheers 🍻🍻🍻
Slurpy, great to see your videos of the pubs near you. It’s a shame to see the closed ones. If I ever get the chance to come over to your side of the world I can’t wait to try your favourites. 🍻👍
Cheers Dave, I work with a Welshman here in NZ and he tells me that Brains SA was the beer he grew up drinking... I think it may have been a bit stronger back then as he's a big bloke... and it would knock him over! 🥴🤣 cheers Dave keep em coming 🍻🍻
Sure it's always been 4.2% but like I said those day we were all drinking beers in the 3% plus. Very good pint is SA I must say...thanks for tuning in👍🍺😊
It depresses me to see places that were once so full of life get shuttered. I suppose it is the way of the world and why we enjoy them while we still can. Cheers!
You made a great point at the end there Slurpy, for the price of a single can, you can get one or even two pints in a real pub. All beertubers should get out more and support their local, once theyre gone, they very rarely do The Central and come back.
Work is the curse of the drinking classes Slurpy. Enjoyed a SA the other week, still a great beer and a shame to see so many abandoned pubs. Too many coffee shops! 🍻
Takes me back to my time on the letter machines at RM ,Dave CFCs, OCR pre sorter LSMs,IMPs ,CSS,worked em all Don't miss them just my work mates cheers
I agree, it's underatted is SA..Good malts on it. That pint was £3.70 which ain't too bad for a uk guest ale over on the island...thanks for tuning in..always very knowledgeable as usual Papa🍺😊👍
Top report Slurpy - hope to see you soon in the Rovers, or Old Market - or even the Albert...but none of those Okells places, they're a property company now, not a brewer. You for got to mention that whenever they close a pub, or sell a property they slap covenents on preventing any further use as a licenced premises. Monopoly?
Yes like the Liverpool Arms for example. Terrible company are H & B ( Okells)..I try n stick to the non brewery pubs. Serves me well. Cheers for tuning in mate👏🍺😊
What a blast from the past . Brains SA . Lovely beer . Such a shame the pubs shut down . Brilliant to get that on cask . Great to hear that there’s been on that’s re opened . 👍🏻🍻. Good luck to them guys . Cheers Dave . Still love the Jokes 😆😆.
What a beautiful island 🏝️ full of character and charm. I hope the local people get out and support these real pubs, otherwise the choices will be only poncey wine bars or drinking cans at home and that’s no fun. It’s people like you Dave that appreciate a real pub and are helping to keep that tradition alive. I love the jokes as well, keep em coming!! 🍺 😃
Yes Sean your spot on, poncy wine bars n drinking at home ain't the future. Must keep pubs alive. Cheers mate much appreciated your comments as usual, a man who knows what he's talking about🍺👍
Yeah, it's a shame when good pubs close and an even bigger shame when crap pubs remain open! It's good to see a pub reopen, that's a better tend. The Brains SA is nice on cask, not so good out of the bottle. Another great and informative video, keep up the good work Dave. 👍🍻
I've never had the bottle version...always liked it on cask and their Bitter & Mild(dark). Your right about some crappy pubs with no beer choices staying open n other historic ones closing..cheers Graeme🍺👍
Great video pal, nice to see your work place don’t get your finger stuck in that machine 😂 sign of times mate pubs are sadly dying due to various factors at play. I only go out on a pub crawl about once a month if that. Laters pal and looking forward to next video 😀
@@SlurpyDave254 Yes that’s correct… Warrington just about got five in town centre worth going in then obviously I could travel 🚊 to Manchester or Liverpool to do pub day out, plenty more pubs there 😀
@@SlurpyDave254 Good brewer. We've lost so many pubs near us, I was going to do something similar to show the carparks, apartments and funeral parlours ours have turned into!! 👍
