You are the first person to ever give the proper review on a motherboard which UA-camrs with millions of viewers don't go into the detail that you do. When I buy a motherboard, I want to know How many M.2's I can use, is the board built right with good components and will my GPU run the way it should which you tell it all. 6 or 8 layer PCB's also means a lot as the more layers the better signal from the CPU and better heat dissipation from the VRM's.

Excellent video and info on all these X870 boards! I have purchased the MSI Tomahawk X870 and love it. This is my third build at the noob age of 53 and love saving for the parts and putting them together to build myself a Gaming pc.
A combined "what to buy" tier-list for this gen of cpus would be useful (including x670, x670e, x870 and x870e) as the x670 boards will be selling for much cheaper.

The tomahawk really is the only x870 I've ever considered so far. Even the BIOS has been heavily improved over past msi boards, weird color scheme aside. AND it's one of the cheapest in the chipset.

The one thing I've noticed with the X870 NON-E Motherboards is that they have a dedicated non-switched PCIe 50 x16 GPU slot, while most of the X870E motherboards have the PCIe 50 x16 GPU slot on a PCIe switch and share lanes with either another PCIe slot or a couple of M.2 slots. The ASRock X870E is the only one I know of that has a dedicated x16 PCIe 5.0 GPU slot. It might be better to get a X870 over a X870E for this reason.

As he mentions at 0:14-0:26, this tier list is the non-E single chipset boards. The Nova is in a different offering/class and is in his x870e version tier list video from 2 weeks earlier than this video - check it out. However, to compare some of the main differences of the Nova to his top-ranked non-E Tomahawk: The NOVA - $50-$100 more... has 1 more USB-A and more faster USB-A's... PCIE_3 is only Gen3 x2 and shares lanes with the slow gen3 x2 M.2_5 (you can only use one or the other and only at x2 meaning 2 lanes, not 4). In this regard, the PCIE_3 is better on the Tomahawk being an x4 (providing 4 lanes instead of only 2), and this is a very important feature that puts the Tomahawk ahead of the Nova. ---- BOTH offer PCIE_1 (GPU) with no lane sharing... and 4 M.2s; however, on the Tomahawk, if you use the M.2_3, then PCIE_3 will run at x2. And M.2_3 will be disabled if PCIE_3 is used and set to x4 in the bios. At this price point, how many people are using 4 M.2s? Overall, I'd choose the Tomahawk. But if your use-case needs one more M.2 and the pcie slots are no issue for you, then the Nova may be your choice. The Tomahawk is hard to beat for $300 - and it often is listed for $250, which is near impossible to beat! I hope this info was helpful. (What a way to start a Sunday morning lol)

@@HansOilaf My apologies. I meant that in a lighthearted manner and did not mean for it to come across in a belligerent manner. I do not find Powercharge on this board. It has a 30w fast charge. Many, if not most boards have a 60w+ fast charge. And though it may be helpful, it isn't a high priority for a PC build... other things are of much higher importance - resource allocation for example.
@@RKBenchmarker i didn't mean the power charge my apologies i didn't know there was a difference. what the difference is, is the other boards have the fast charge on the rear and not on the fronthub usb, what is in my opinion much more convenient. it's just my point of view and i'm looking to buy one of these new boards and is indeed a factor for me. it was not before, only after i found out about it on this board tbh and it just seems like a smart feature like i said for almost anybody, not some special power user use case.
@@HansOilaf I agree with you. 👍🏻
Did you missed the asus x870e hero which was around $700 🤨
That's X870E which is on my other list. This list is only X870.
Just got the new 9800x3d but I wonder if there are mAtx boards on the horizon?
I want to ask why gpu pci lane sharing is bad? pcie 16x vs 8x for the gpu has minimal performance difference.
I haven't seen a case with a speaker since the early 90's 😂
Would the gigabyte x870 Aorus elite wifi 7 become s tier due to the latest gigabyte bios update info they released with utilisation of the x3D chips?
Which motherboard has the better protection against shorting.. i have shorted 2 gigabyte x670e pro by using KVM... I THREW AWAY but makes me think... any other brand with better protection for undervoltage overvoltage over current under current static current etc
How do you short a mobo (let alone 2) by using a KVM?
@@RKBenchmarker power cycle without disconnecting the KVM which i though was not an issue... kvm was supplying power to motherboard after disconnecting the main power cable
Motherboards should be protected against stupid things like this. Clearly gigabyte doesnt have any...

All the X870 boards from Gigabyte only come with 6-Layer PCB Mid Loss except the Master. It is sad that their B650 elite ax had 8-Layer but the lowest grade audio or I would have own that one and their Ice boards are ALL a joke as they were built late and charged more and they only have 6-Layer pcb and ALC897 audio.
I disagree with 1 Motherboard and that is the Gigabytes Elite as it a long with ALL except the Master have only 6-Layer PCB which is Mid Loss between the CPU and memory and CPU to GPU.
Now I’m unsure which to get
Where tier is asrock x870e nova ? Compare to msi tomahawk x870 vs nova x870e which one do you recommendations?? Msi x870 / x870e nova?
That's in his other video X870E Tier List from two weeks ago. Check that one out. Tomahawk is fine if you're on a tight budget.
@@RKBenchmarker nice info dude ,
I'll think twice about deciding, because the price different between tomahawk & x870e nova is arround $40 usd here.., do you think tomahawk still smart/best choice at that price different with nova?
@@nepo10ball Thanks. Yes, mainly because the Tomahawk has more useful PCIE_3. Where are you?
Is there a x870 m at yet?
Is the gigabyte auros elite 6 layer or 8 layer?
6 layer. You can always count on Gigabyte to go cheap somewhere
Thank you.
add some grapghics on the chart for the winners and mention the best mobo again at the end by name - it is a good review you just have to pump up the volume and name names more
Glad i bought the tomahawk
MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi Gaming VS Asus ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming WiFi ?
Not the same price... 😅
@@Skyouu Did he ask about the price?
@@xennori1409 Could you really compare two differents products which are not the in the same range of products ?
@@Skyouu Isnt that what comparisons are for? Unless you think all E versions are better than Tomahawk. I would not pick X870E auros elite over this.. I would pick the Strix tho.
@@xennori1409 all E versions like you say are mostly more complete than non-E versions. So compare the tomahawk vs the strix is a bit non-sense because "of course" the strix is better, but again it's not really the same range of products ( in terms of price).
When I compare some boards, I check what we have for the quality/perf/functionalities per price...
I got the Nova x870e
I will pick the ASUS ROG Strix X870-A Gaming WiFi for superior audio.
Hey, what do you recommend for ryzen 9800x3d 😊 thanks
Check the S-tier, I guess.
thank you
the Aorus Xtreme is coming in a few days
Has anyone tried an 8k polling mouse on the lightining ports of the asrock Steel legend for example? Curious if it's marketing talk or really something you can feel?

Hey guys, the actual price you guys referring like say msi x870 tomahawk costing $300 , is that including tax or excluding ?? Bcoz in my region it costs above $350 with tax
No, that is not including tax. And often the tomahawk is on sale for $250 (+tax).

People i need help. I want to upgrade to am5, i only want pcie gen5 x16 for gpu and analog 5.1 audio connection. Its either Asus b650e-f ( b650e-e is outside of my budget) or X870 Tuf plus. Am i missing any other sub 300 euro board with that ?
Just bought the x870 aorus elite wifi 7 ICE, for me gpu sharing lanes in x8/x4/x4 is completely ok, because theorically 5x8 pcie port = 4x16 pcie port, we have no gpu on the market with pcie 5, so it's completely ok, I prefer to have 3x gen5 slots for my M2.
The tomahawk is nice but I don't want run my nvme gen 5 in x2 😢 or choose to desactivating the usb 4 ports (its an heresy) to have the M2 slots in pcie 5x4 speeds. It's a non sense. And I think you loose some usability, I prefer have them ( usb 4 ports )available to link some external drives ; and the speeds benefits of your nvme gen 5 drives.
I prefer the 3 slots in gen 5 of the aorus.
Asrock nova, and Taichi lite are bangers in X870E.
For my use, this aorus elite wifi 7 is so cool 😎 even the 60 A vrm ( 😕..80 A could be cool...)

Just wanted to reach out to say you are completely full of it. I bought the MSI X870 Tomahawk off your recommendation and found it can't even boot on standard 6000mhz expo speeds for most ram kits. Just a quick google search and there are literally dozens of posts from people with different kits who cant even get basic EXPO to work. Thanks for wasting hundreds of $ and dozens of hours of my time with your poorly researched trash list. Never taking your advice again.
I have also the x870e hero which corsts almost €700. And guess what? Expo also does not work. If i turn it on i get blue screen of death.
This guy rates them based on specs i guess
