I am really into the x870e phantom gaming nova wifi, but unfortunately its all out of stock on every online store i visit right now. Its an S tier board due to most of its competitors for its price range does not have any lane sharing in the GPU or the Gen5 x16 lanes. If you are selling it i am willing to buy it
Already got a x870e taichi for about 2 weeks. Been absolutely fanatic with 9800x3d, the motherboard was super easy to install and the bios is clear and easy for ram timings, and cpu overclock (although to be honest you dont’ get much from cpu overclock). Love how quick it posts/rejects ram timings, you can tune ram so quick on this thing. Beatufiul design, and my crucial t705 runs at 14k advertised speed in the 5.0 slot, the motherboard heats sink is perfectly sufficient.
@@DanielReyes-ry5neI just got both WiFi Nova and Taichi just right now off NewEgg. If you’re interested I’ll sell you the Nova as I’m leaning towards the Taichi.
A useful thing to add for the Taichi, Taichi Lite and the Nova is you can use all of the nvme slots at the same time while maintaining 16 lanes for the GPU.
I use NOVA and it's a very good motherboard! The BIOS is very clean and clear, you can set everything you want in it. The tiny fan placed in the VRM cooler spins up when turned on, but after that there is no sound, it is literally silent. But like everything else, you can set it in the FAN settings or even turn it off. The temperature values of the chipset are good and yes, as I was told before, there is no lane sharing nonsense. I think it's the best motherboard out of all the X870e. I have been using it for about 1 week. and stable, there are no anomalies, everything goes as it should. I strongly recommend it to everyone!
Finally, a big channel like Kitguru showing some loving to the small guys ASROCK - great video, I think the steel legend is very good - white too, ideal for my new build
That Nova box artwork is lovely - weird comment I know, looks like a good board too, but the PRO RS will be appealing to a lot of people - good entry level white board
Thanks for the intro, hopefully some actual reviews will be released soon. 👍 It seems there's a real hype surrounding the Nova, as it has lots of features for a decent price when compared to the competition (well, for an X870E chipset mobo anyway). One thing that should be also mentioned is that the Taichi Lite doesn't have the EZ quick release feature for the GPU, yet the cheaper Nova has it. For some people, this is a red line, which is why they prefer either the more expensive Taichi or the cheaper Nova.
Really good coverage leo, thanks for going over the connectivity and design and features, big help at this time of the year. time to watch out for black friday sales now !
Super helpful video as I have a 9800X3D coming in January and am currently mobo shopping. I think the 870E Nova is probably the sweet spot for me as I won't have to replace my case.
Brilliant and useful review on the asrock lineup👍 I’ll take one of those Nova’s thanks very much, great value for money and got all the bells and whistles for my 9800x3d.
I went with the Nova for my 9800X3D build. I think it's worth mentioning that using the gen3 m.2 slot disables the PCIe 3.0 x16 slot on this board. The 5 m.2 slots was the selling point for me on this board, that and its excellent value compared to competitors!
You won’t be disappointed. I own the Taichi and I am very happy with the board. The Taichi is EATX, 1 inch wider than regular ATX board. When you get it make sure you download newest bios version 3.10. The 3.12 is bios beta driver.

WOW - what great timing, I just ordered a 9800X3D and am looking for a new motherboard to go with it , and not sure what to buy - what board do you recommend for a 9800X3D Leo?
Great video, thanks Leo. The Z890 versions of the riptide and the nova have fully tooless m.2 designs - not just the primary. God knows why the x870/e versions are inferior in this way... They are otherwise very visually similar. It's a head scratcher... The riptide doesn't do enough to justify it's price above the steel legend from a features perspective, they could have solved this problem with a post code and the board might compare more favourably against the gigabyte elite7 and the MSI Tomahawk The nova featureset and price makes some high end options from other board makers look silly... Provided the review goes well, might be my choice in the new year!
A unique feature of the Taichi boards is asynchronous BCLK, which allows you to do a real CPU overclock. They are by far the cheapest boards with this feature across all manufacturers.
most confusing aspect of boards now is lane sharing as you populate m.2, it annoyed me so much I just got the nova+9800xd3 and bet on it lasting another 7+ years like my last pc so I can hopefully pass on the early years of ARM etc. maturing.

My very first As Rock board was the 890 Extreme for AM3. That prompted me to get the X370 Taichi and that was a great board. Right now I am looking at the X870E Taichi as it is the cheapest board that still support x8x8 on the top 2 slots. Something I do not see in reviews is that all As Rock boards are great for HTPC as the HDMI port on all As Rock boards supports 120hz.In the age of 4K 120hz TVs with VRR that translates to butter smooth IGPU Gaming at 1080P. You should test it yourselves and see. I used a MSI Pro B550 and the As Rock Riptide B550. Both were the same $79 price. I just wish that you would not follow the narrative and use an AMD GPU once in a while. AMD software is good enough to recommend as a reason to get an AMD card. Please don't use the RT vs raster argument as RT is in less than 1% of all Games, even new Games do not support RT like the narrative describes as I play a ton of Strategy and have not seen RT in BG3, Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader, TWWH3, City Skylines 2, StarshipTroopers, Warhammer Age of Sigmar and others. Meanwhile raster is still in 100% of all Games.I think it is a disservice to the Community when the narrative uses Nvidia 90% when they were selling pallets of 4090s to the Chinese Govt and still do (4090D). If AMD was so weak the 7900XT would not be just as expensive as 10 months ago and not the the number 3 card on Newegg.com.
Would be interesting to see some testing on these, namely boot speeds, memory training, stability, temps, I/O. I have the Nova and I have encountered a number of issues. Memory is slowly trained, the audio jack can't be balanced from Windows settings (only from driver software), boot is slower than B650m PG Riptide, and several others actually. I was wondering if the overall quality of some of these boards might be lower despite the increased features on paper

Crazy enough, so many people have been trying to buy the X870E Nova, Taichi, and Taichi Lite in America that they are unobtanium. There's nowhere to buy any of these boards right now. I guess you can say that's how you know you made a great product.
I bought the x870e nova on the release luckily and I'm waiting for the 9950x3D in january hopefully . I bought some ram not on the qvl list , the price was good and I wanted to save money I hope it will work xD I've not seen anyone review the ram even though it's not a bad brand I hear
So the difference between the phantom gaming riptide and the steel legend is more of less just colour scheme? Makes sense I guess although the completely different name is a bit confusing.
x870e taichi owner here as well. 9800x3d cpu. only issue im having is usb4 write speeds is only around 250MB/s. im using 990pro nvm in a zike drive enclosure and ugreen usb 4 nvme enclosure. what is your experiance with usb4? running latest bios, 23h2 and 24h2 both fresh wipe and installs. numerous usb 4 cables tested as well. windows explorer copies to enclosure is 250MB/s as well as ATTO disk benchmark
Thanks Leo... do we know if any or all of these will be able to support CUDIMM RAM for AMD 9000? If no just curious if someone (perhaps even the great Leo himself) knows whether they could be supported in the future via a bios update or if it will require totally new hardware?
I'd love to grab the Nova or Taichi however I'm committed to a white build so may look at the Steel Legend. Pity Asrock don't have a white version of their premium boards. Debating between it and the Aorus Pro Ice. Leaning more towards the Asrock, despite the Gigabyte having a few extra quality of life features that I appreciate, but can't find the Steel Legend in stock anywhere in Australia.
All good boards, but they are clearly reusing things , the Superman board appeals to me the most for the price, I want a white system in 2025 - first ever
So, it would be kinda Nova for me, as I need a slot for my AE-9... Well, one could of course use the 16/pcie5-slot also, but... Though I have 670E Steel Legend now, so I really wouldn't need an update... But you never know ;)

Their Tachi compared to the £800-£1200 flagships from MSI and ASUS respectively seems like an absolute bargain
Crazy enough, so many people have been trying to buy the X870E Nova, Taichi, and Taichi Lite in America that they are unobtanium. There's nowhere to buy any of these boards right now. I guess you can say that's how you know you made a great product.
Yup, as soon as I saw the nova sell out, I just bought the Taichi, I realized that the price difference wasn’t worth me waiting.
I bought the x870e nova on the release luckily and I'm waiting for the 9950x3D in january hopefully . I bought some ram not on the qvl list , the price was good and I wanted to save money I hope it will work xD I've not seen anyone review the ram even though it's not a bad brand I hear
Looks like all decent kit.
I would love to know what they were on when they came up with these 1970s sounding names.
Think the steel legend one is the one to go for unless you are lucky enough to have easy access to wired ethernet. Wifi is a must nowadays.
I want a blazing m.2 slot.
That sounds like a euphemism . Pretty sure my m.2 slot is blazing after a good curry.
So the difference between the phantom gaming riptide and the steel legend is more of less just colour scheme? Makes sense I guess although the completely different name is a bit confusing.
Are they going to make a project zero version any time soon?
x870e taichi owner here as well.
I wish there was a model that could pass through my discrete graphics card to the usb4 so I could run a single cable to the other room
Is the Steel Legend 8 layer?
Great job Leo thanks ❤
No problem 😊
Thanks Leo... do we know if any or all of these will be able to support CUDIMM RAM for AMD 9000? If no just curious if someone (perhaps even the great Leo himself) knows whether they could be supported in the future via a bios update or if it will require totally new hardware?
Seems unlikely until AMD overhauls their chipsets and memory controller
Leo
I'd love to grab the Nova or Taichi however I'm committed to a white build so may look at the Steel Legend. Pity Asrock don't have a white version of their premium boards.
Debating between it and the Aorus Pro Ice. Leaning more towards the Asrock, despite the Gigabyte having a few extra quality of life features that I appreciate, but can't find the Steel Legend in stock anywhere in Australia.
All good boards, but they are clearly reusing things , the Superman board appeals to me the most for the price, I want a white system in 2025 - first ever
Steel legend I assume you mean ?
@@KitGuruTech Steely dan?
Amazing how their flagships are about the same price as an ASUS Midrange board. I dont get it.
you forgot Asus also charges for "Asus Taxes" each time u buy their product, meanwhile Asrock have no such things and gives u their top spec products
@@arthur_pd And dont forget the extra R&D they need to solder those capacitors on backwards...
Where are the ITX boards, ASRock hello you there?
Also, POST code should at least trickle down to mid-range B850. And absolutely on X870!
I don't know why people wouldn't use a X870 board as anything below this is considered outdated now.
So, it would be kinda Nova for me, as I need a slot for my AE-9... Well, one could of course use the 16/pcie5-slot also, but...
Though I have 670E Steel Legend now, so I really wouldn't need an update... But you never know ;)
Do the sell the backplate separately?
Please do MSI roundup if you haven’t. Thank you 🙏
Is the Taichi or Nova better than the Msi Mag x870 Tomahawk wifi ??
I get they need a gamer board but you get the feeling they are still workshopping what their gamer brand is going to be.
I can't imagine how much you work out to be moving around 443 lb around like it's nothing.
yooo these looks sick
