    Excellent info. You never go to water/ shampoo, after taking out braids it can cause your hair to matt up. moisturizing is key. Look how long and beautiful your hair is!!!

      I agree! I actually ran out of the olive oil for my fronts so I used castor and it was not that easy to apply (since it was so thick) although it felt more slippery (soft) while rinsing it out. And no problem💕 I love talking with you all!

    Hey, thanks for the tip. This really saves your hair from breakage before you shampoo. Pre poo is key after wearing your hair in a protective style for some time. Of course the dead hair will come out when you detangle with the hot oil. Once again, thanks a bunch. Btw, your hair is amazingly beautiful. Keep it up!

      I would recommend Olive oil still unless you have another oil that isn’t coconut oil; only because olive and coconut oil are very different in how they affect the hair so the outcome tends to be different. I’ve had some try coconut as an alternative and they let me know that it didn’t provide the same slip and softening that they anticipated from the Pre-ooo.

      Yes, you can try different ones. Each will feel different and have a different feel and result but if it works to get the job done (allowing you to finger detangle and softening your hair before shampooing) and your hair seems to like it, then it’s all good to use ☺️

    • @TyJalayahRobertson
      @TyJalayahRobertson  3 роки тому +1

      Some oil substitutes may work but I would caution against coconut oil for this though only because coconut oil and olive oil are very different in application. The coconut oil will not provide the same softening/slip effect as the olive oil will, which is what is needed to make this pre-poo step beneficial for detangling afterwards.

    • @Greatchipmasta12

      @@TyJalayahRobertson i am definitely taking your advice next time, i went ahead and tried the coconut oil and i understand what you mean although the finger detangling worked fine after the wash my hair was dryer than before 😅 live and learn 🤦🏾‍♀️

      Oh no 😩 lol I’m so sorry to hear that! Coconut oil used to have that same effect on mine too. By next wash day, your hair should be back to normal. Thank you for updating me on the turn out! This is helpful info for others who may inquire about substituting with coconut oil.

    Hi! Is it anything I can use to substitute for that olive oil?

    • @TyJalayahRobertson
      @TyJalayahRobertson  2 роки тому

      Hmmm… I’m not sure that another oil will give the same affect but you can try to see how it works for your hair. Typically, when someone has substituted it (either with coconut, almond, castor, etc.) they’ve come back to tell me it didn’t provide the softening/slip that they expected.

    Hey Ty’Jalayah! So once we’re finished shampooing after detangling, are we suppose to detangle again, afterwards, with a rinse-out conditioner as we’re instructed to in your Updated wash day routine ??

    • @TyJalayahRobertson
      @TyJalayahRobertson  5 років тому +1

      Hey ☺️ Good question! You might be able to go straight to the deep conditioning step since the hair is already pre-detangled.

    Could a use an oil pre-poo after my faux locs then do an Aztec clay mask? Cause I want the easy detangling process from the oil but I don’t know how that’s gonna work with the clay mask unless I rinse the oil out first

    • @TyJalayahRobertson
      @TyJalayahRobertson  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, that should be fine! You’d have to do the oil, rinse, then clay mask

    does it have to be olive oil?

    • @TyJalayahRobertson
      @TyJalayahRobertson  4 роки тому +1

      It can be any oil you know your hair likes, just beware that some oils can feel very different than how the olive oil feels on the hair. Ex. Castor is super thick and will be too sticky-feeling and hard to finger detangle with but I’ve heard others use almond oil and others like it. If you try a different oil than olive or almond and like how it works, let me know! I’d like to know which other oils work well with this method also ☺️

    Question , so since your hair is already dry from it being in the protective style why add oil to it? Wouldn’t they seal in the dryness?

    • @TyJalayahRobertson
      @TyJalayahRobertson  4 роки тому +5

      Good question! But No, the pre-poo process isn’t used to moisturize the hair. It’s used to soften it and prepare it for the wash process. After you shampoo your hair, then you will moisturize it-with a deep condition and the lco/loc method.
