I remember watching this episode at my grandmother’s house late one night with her & a pal of mine. It was a rerun of course & I can’t remember laughing so hard. We were all rolling. I miss that wonderful lady.
My dad would claim to be the chef of the future almost any time he was in the kitchen and it finally occurred to me to look up what the hell he was talking about.
The look on Cramden's face when Norton cores the apple the "old-fashioned" way in about 1 second..... I have seen this about a dozen times and still makes me laugh.

Hysterically funny. The best comics ever! Jackie Gleason and Art Carney had incredibe talent.Such classic entertainment. The Honeymooners is truly one of the best shows in television history. I love this show!!!!!
I love the honeymooners. Ralph with his get rich quick schemes which always went kerplooey but he never gave up. And then his best friend Norton would get drug into the scheme with him often with hilarious results like here Ralph us trying to open a can and hits his finger on the table. I don’t think I can stop laughing every time I watch that!!!!!🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😆😆😆😁😁😁😃😃😄😄🤣🤣🤣😂😂
Everyone keeps leaving off the backstage scene to this that is hilarious and makes this part even more funny to the first time viewer. It's where Ralph was giving Norton a pep talk trying to build confidence in Norton and Norton was the one that had doubts about his part. Ralph acted like he had it all together back stage. Right before they went on the air Norton said "Just think Ralph, we're gonna be in front of hundreds of thousands of people." Ralph said "Don't talk like that nervous, you're gonna make yourself Norton."
Yeah, really, huh. Would've loved to have seen a crossover scene, with Lucy & Ricky, Fred & Ethel, along with Ralph & Alice and Norton & Trixie ... can you even imagine? omg, it'd be the greatest ... if only, lol
Every time I see an ad on T.V. advertising that junk and while demonstrating it or talking about it says "Amazing" I always say "But can it core a apple?" People look at me like I'm nuts.
Dude I noticed the "a apple" instead of the proper "an apple" so it's obviously on purpose I thought was pretty funny. I think it works cuz 1 it's silly but it also sounds funny. Good stuff

I showed my wife this episode recently--this was her first time seeing it and she laughed and laughed at this scene. Then we were watching the Sopranos and Tony sees Artie Buco in the restaurant and Tony says "Oh! Chef of the future!" and my wife got the reference. I feel badly for people not born in the NY area since we grew up on "The Honeymooners" and "The Odd Couple", 2 quintessential NY shows.
I never gave thought to the Honeymooners rerunning thirty-nine episodes. It seemed almost infinite. Of course this led to the resurgence in Star Trek and The Twilight Zone as kids left their sets on and didn't want to go to bed until terrified just before 2:00 a.m., which inspired a hit song in 1983.
Every time someone on T.V. selling junk and while demonstrating or talking about the product and says "Amazing" I always say "But can it core a apple?'

Gleason collapsing part of the set was purely accidental, but he stayed completely in character. Somehow, I have a feeling Carney himself came up with the "a" instead of the correct "an" (apple) and Gleason picked it up from him. Amazing how one little grammatical error can make a question sound funny!

As a die-hard life enthusiast of TH, this is probably the best scene and the one most indicative of Ralph's weaknesses. The Great One once described RK in an interview as a man "without a hell of a lot of ability." But this scene takes the cake! Ralph does everything humanely possible wrong. Ralph Kramden comes closest in all popular media to a Tragic-Comic figure.

YES! - The "rehearsal" scene is so critical to understanding the contrast between the reshearsal and the live commerical!
Haha thank you for the context so good
If this was done before a live audience, how Art Carney was able to not laugh during this is simply amazing!
One of TV's greatest scenes -- right up there with Lucy and Viteameatavegamin!

This is classic TV. They would never be able to pull this off today. And it was live as well.
How he says he would belt his wife in the mouth would get the show cancelled by commercial break
It's like Jackie leeson was ready to push that wall that's why he went in that corner where the wall was a genius of a comedian
Comedic Brilliance!
I remember sitting in my diaper watching the Honeymooners reruns. I'm 58 now. I've loved Honeymooners my whole life!!!!
The real funny thing is that a late-night commercial for a cooking utensil, made over SIXTY years later, is almost exactly the same.
