    Good session, well done. To reduce the damage to fish and make it easier to unhook and release them, use a circle hook ABOVE the bait, and secure the bait on a dangle (like a carp hair rig). You can scale it up for bigger fish, or down for smaller. It works on everything from flatties to skate, by adjusting the size of the bait and terminal tackle. The fish still inhale your bait but the circle hook will typically lip hook them.

    Well done Danielle. Thank you for bringing us on your break. Glad you sleighed them this time because red letter days fuel the hunger as much as learning new methods or trying new spots. It distracts our brain from the worlds problems, helps us focus, lets us appreciate what nature and beauty surrounds us. And once we think we've mastered it all, it takes us down a peg, humbling us and getting us to refocus. Whether you catch or not, fishing is a journey worth doing.

    I totally agree with all the comments about using circle hooks 👍
    May i also suggest that when the fish are as prolific as on this occasion, that you refrain from trying to spin at the same time as float fishing...as by the time you have reeled in your lure, the fish on the float rod will have swallowed the hook deeply.. as you miss out on the initial bite.

    Learning different fishing methods is great. I have never float fished in the sea. It does look exciting.
    I use circle hooks all the time now and have found the incidents of deep hooked fish fewer. The hook needs to be tied on a small loop, not tight as with a blood or uni knot. I use a figure of eight knot.
    This allows the hook to turn freely and do it's job. The bait being below the hook will not mask the in turned hook point.
    I crush the barbs too.
    Fish welfare is so important.
    Thank you for sharing your adventures with us . I am learning along with you. Every day is a school day.

    Another great session Danielle. Also a +1 for using circle hooks with a dongle. I use them for most bait fishing, especially if rays, dogfish and smooth hound are about - I tie my circle hooks so the eye is within a small loop of line so the hook is loose and can swing about. This gives a better hookup rate and 99% of fish are lip-hooked.

    Hi Danielle, i think you need to lift the rod as soon as jyou see tbe float go under to hook the fish before it downs the bait,its the same when coarse fishing for perch for example as they smash the bait as do all predatory fish,circle hooks might be the answer but dont give the fish chance to swa.low these or youve very little chance of unhooking these with a disgorger,i think you have to wstch the float and hit the bite asap,great vid 😊

    • @fishinghinny
      @fishinghinny  7 місяців тому +2

      Thanks Steven
      Yeh, I had thought that may be case.
      I’ll give the circle hooks a try, I do like to spin at the same time so it’s tricky to strike immediately, I’ll see how it goes with the circle’s and might end up just using the one rod when float fishing
      👍🎣🐟

    • @steventyreman3642
      @steventyreman3642 7 місяців тому +1

      I think I would fish the one rod if float fishing,if a good sized fish hits while you're spinning the rod could go into the sea a disaster,,,,, tight .lines,its nice round where you are and the people are great ,just say a bother and you're as good as one of me,,,I've delivered straw loads to most of the farms round there,I loved it ,,,nay bother 😀 😄 😊

  • @Campbellero
    @Campbellero 7 місяців тому +2

    Worth trying a wide gape circle hook. Go up 2 sizes in the circles to atleast a 6/0. when the pollock engulfes it, no need to strike or youll lose the fish, just let the rod load up with teh fish and the fish will hook itself , 9 times out of 10 the fish will be hooked in the scissors of the jaw. If only got J hooks, use a larger wide gape J hook, atleast a 4/0, might also reduce deep hooked fish. Nice spot, Tight lines.

    Hi great that you’re going fishing if I may give you a little tip, have a bucket of water beside you for when you’re handling fish, if you handle fish with dry hands it damages them to a point where it could eventually kill them. It’s not a moan or a dig so don’t take it personally please, tight lines and keep up the content.

    hi Hinny - another great video 🙂 Your angling skills are improving with every trip 🙂 You asked about avoiding deep hooking - the best way is the dongle rig, where the bait is suspended below a circle hook. When the fish grabs the bait, it gets the circle hook in the corner of it's mouth. There are many youtube videos on the dongle rig, have a look a Mario Asprou's channel, he has a video (ua-cam.com/video/zU2A4TEnXKY/v-deo.html) showing you how to make and bait the rig. Nothing stopping you using a circle hook & dongle under your float. And another little tip, please stop point loading your float rod pulling the fish up, it won't be long before the tip breaks off !! I was cringing waiting for it to happen as you lifted those decent Pollack ....
