Why do people hate so much about her ? She's just doing what she loves, if you don't like it don't listen to it. I really don't get it
She used to be in a straight up pop band.
Because most people feel the need to classify, organize and isolate everything into it's own little group or genre and anything that deviates from what's expected is attacked and insulted.

I saw Myrkur back in 16 when they opened for Behemoth. This woman can literally play any instrument under the sun. Amazing to watch live
To be a "good" listener you must appreciate all kinds of music. If you spend your life listening to just one genre maybe you are losing the chance of tripping to infinite dimensions and mindscapes. All innovations on music, including metal, come from eclectic artists, I don´t want to listen to 129828324 bands copying the most famous. It´s pretty hard to accept that a lot of metalheads are so close-minded, elitist, but then they complain about close-minded and elitist people who attack their musical tastes! Amalie and Myrkur are great, and come on people! hate someone for playing music? I love metal music since I was a kid (I´m also a metal drummer since I was 15) , but I also enjoy pop music, jazz, folk, trance, trip hop, acid rock, reggae, hip-hop, psycho, darkwave, progressive rock, bossa nova and so forth... knowing and respecting every musical genre, that beautiful diversity... made me a better listener and a better musician. Long live this awesome woman, her projects, metal, art, and music. Cheers from México!

I feel exactly the same way, Yannick!! I find that the elitist usually haven't picked up an instrument ;) I'm a drummer as well. My husband actually found me a jazz and bossa nova channel on youtube to listen to and it's so amazing! I just love listening to different music. At some point I would like to learn jazz drumming.

Some years ago that I got into black metal, I was thinking why the hell aren't there any women musicians singing in a soprano voice? That would totally fit into black metal music. And now, here it is! And I love Myrkur!
I enjoy true kvlt black and also her music.I was always wondering why such voclas are not a thing with this music? Brutal vocals are cool but these kind suits so well too
Check out Hulder, one-woman black metal project. A great album came out this year called Godslastering: Hymns of a Forlorn Peasantry.
There is good music and there is bad music.... Myrkur is good music and nobody gives a fuck if it is black metal band or gay metal or whatever. Myrkur are fucking awesome!!!

wow, it blows my mind that some people would actually hate her that much.... She has such an angel voice and the combination with black is just too good.
It's really funny to see how much effort people put on hating an artist, making him/her even more popular. You should use the same energy to support the underground (and famous) bands and artists that you actually like.
Her music is going from saint Etienne to black metal passing through melodic neoclassicism, folk, atmospheric music and every thing she want to fusion her music with, she is one of the first musician who have surprised me in ages, thanks Myrkur.
The instrumental & traditional music she's doing now is mind-blowing.I'm open-mouthed at that aspect of her work.
Her music is so intense and deep, I feel like it touches my soul and it numbs me for its softness while bravery...

You know, IF she was only doing this for a quick buck it would be really fucking black metal. the black metal scene has become quite orthodox and set in it's kvlt ways. In a way she would be like the black metal artists of the past. Saying fuck you to the status quo and just doing what she wants with her music... I know that doesn't fit the overarching "philsosophy" of black metal but fuck that. Black metal was originally all about being individualistic.

Yes.... but you're kinda proving my points. In a way she's adhering to the original individualistic black metal "philosophy" of don't giving a fuck. Now if you want to call her a poser go ahead. But by doing so you are defining black metal as a scene with certain values, norms etc. And anyone that goes against those values/norms is "not black metal" or a "poser". It's a herd mentality and it's kinda sad.

Some folks think "Black Metal" should be limited to blast beasts and satan. At that point, it becomes repetitive and pointless. Mykur is pushing the boundries. She should be worshiped for having the courage to do it.
this delusional twat isn't pushing any boundaries. she is repackaging mainstream Norwegian inspired black metal and adding shit vocals, and even shittier instrumentals. she deserves the ridicule. Myrkur should start by eating a burger and use willpower to to not shove her fingers down her throat afterwards.

Don't know this song. Never heard of this lady. Didn't know there was such a thing as black metal and certainly had no idea it made supposed grown ups into raving assholes. Learn something new everyday. Maybe try to live and let live a little more. Be kinder to others, more understanding. It makes the world a nicer place to be for everyone.

I really don't get the hate. Myrkur is an amazing amalgam of Black Metal and Folk. She's doing something similar to what Agalloch did for almost a decade before she was making this genre of music, and they were (as far as I know) universally loved.

It's a kind of doomy Gothic Folk Metal with strong BM elements in it.

Well I don't own any of Myrkur's music but I do remember when her first record came out and I have to say that what she does I can't find fault with now I do like the nastiest of black metal and venom came up with the name and what is called black metal in today's metal community doesn't sound anything like venom now does it, so what this woman is doing is just as much eligible to be called black metal as let's say Emperor but what you do don't be a dick head and talk shit on her! She's got balls as big as any black metal badass just for doing what she likes no matter who talks shit on her ! Good for you Myrkur

it's pretty obvious the people with their ever so open-minded views on what can be called black metal do not listen to the genre. i don't dislike myrkur's music but i'd like it a lot better if the 90%/10% ratio of enya vocals to black metal vocals on the album was reversed.

Music wise, I commend her for doing whatever her heart tells her to. Who cares if she was pop before metal. Doesn't bother me. What DOES bother me though, is that I just got done watching a video of her when she lived in New York when she was still a pop artist. She was showing off her chic bohemian wardrobe, was totally a normal girl, and was speaking with NO ACCENT whatsoever. Like, she could've passed as an American. But now, all of a sudden, since she's become dark, she's got this thick Danish accent and even does the cute little pauses while searching for the right English word and shit. It's weird, and I'd like to know what the fuck that's all about.

Hate comes from fear, from that you will never be as successful and accomplished as others, and that's why some people are utter losers and resolve to hate others.
