Vehicle cover saves are all about how much the model is obscured, not 'you're behind X cover therefore you get Y cover save'. 25% obscuring gives you a 4+ cover. 50 - 75%+ gives a max of a 3+ cover. Source: Rulebook, page 77, Obscured Vehicles
Except that it actually does work based on the type of cover, not what you've said (maybe you have a different edition rulebook?). Vehicles gain a cover save based on what's covering them (only need the 25% of the facing). If the obscuration is because of a piece of wargear or special rule, then it's 5+ unless otherwise specified. If the entirety of the facing zone that the firing model is in is actually obscured and they can see another facing, they can shoot at the other facing, but the cover save is one point better (this is very rare). Special rules like Stealth/Shrouded and things like Disruption Pods are the only other boosts to cover saves for vehicles. [Digital Edition, don't have the page number, but it's in the Vehicle section under 'Vehicles and Cover - Obscured Targets']
Yeah this may be 6th ed rule but its definitely not 7th. You only get a bonus to cover save if the facing you are shooting at is not visible but another facing is visible.
This was a great report... very painfull to watch but great! Pretty much no errors this time as both players were at ease with the rules. Lots of slaughter from both sides and a victory that seems easy judging by the points but was actually hard fought! The lack of a Lord with Mind Shackle Scarabs did show though...
They dont die, if a body is unable to be repaired on the battlefield , the consciousness of that necron is transferred to a tomb world where a new body is found for it
I love that broken Valkyrie as cover. You can see that it wasn't done on purpose, the wing just broke off and someone at MWG must have gotten frustrated and stuffed it in the terrain bin.
Daniil Osudin They got shot up by a Titan, what do you expect? In the games I play (no one plays Titans, D weapons are cheap AF) my Destroyers perform great. Besides, they got RNG'd to death.
I think the Apoc style units like the knight, baneblade and such are just fun-wreckers, very hard to kill and some have just stupid power/rules to make them ever more crazy.
They're really not hard to kill at all, I've found. Most people don't account for them so they have a hard time killing them, but it used to be the same way with Flyrants back in the day
I've never got into Warhammer but have always been curious. After watching a few of these videos, I really want to get into it. I've played Relic which is obviously not this game, but it gave me a good feel for some of these concepts.
my thoughts? drop the jetfighter, get more bikes. also- DO NOT GIVE NORMAL BIKES PLASMA GUNS, melta guns for fine is is cheaper, if you want plasma, take black knights. plasma guns are not worth it unless you want fluffy.
Wow that guy had a fast strike plan. But, my goodness I hate when people obnoxiously cheer when one of your pieces dies from itself or even just dies in general. A relieved "finally" or "thank goodness" is acceptable, but outright cheering is over the top, rude, and unsportsmanlike. I always keep a polite demeanor when I am able to do severe damage or get a kill, I wish all others were capable of that maturity.
See to me if someone says finally or thank goodness. i find that quite rude. especially under their breath. I am sorry but I find the cheering lightens the mood and When I play I cheer when my army does well and I cheer when it craps the pot. And if you had noticed in the video there was a lot of laughing from both parties. so obviously they were both enjoying game. No rudeness anywhere.
BeingShotAt No if you make a good roll I applaud it. Most of the time when I hear those words uttered it usually in a tone that is making the game no longer fun
Great Batrep guys, enjoyed the clash (and like others have said, the Bikes look wicked). That Knight got pretty brutal too. Only one little issue that I spotted - the Vindicare is Fearless, meaning he couldn't have actually gone to ground. He rolled 3 so he would've passed anyway, but it meant his shot on the following turn would've hit. Also, maybe it's just me, but I would've tried to go for the table wipe - not easy, I know, but I'm stubborn like that XD
Andrew Robertson Uh, no you can't go to ground as a fearless model. 'Units containing one or more models with the Fearless special rule automatically pass Pinning, Fear, Regroup tests and Morale checks, but cannot Go to Ground and cannot choose to fail a Morale check due to the Our Weapons Are Useless rule'. Trust me, I've checked quite a few times lol. Bikes can't go to ground due to their unit type though - that's still correct.
30:01 Samael should have been I1 for charging into difficult terrain, right? Also because Challenging only happens once per combat at 37:00 your necron lord doesn't lose its attacks in the second round of combat. The first round of combat you deny a challenge is the only one you lose your attacks, the opponent cannot reissue a challenge in subsequent turns of the same combat.
Matt I've noticed you don't re roll cocked dice!(from the camera angles I saw at least.) Rule of thumb if it looks cocked, put another dice on top of it and if it stays put you can take the roll! Keep up the good work!
Felt Matt was a bit gamey in this one, a couple his dice looked cocked to me but as they were the results were what he needed no reroll was made. Wonder if the game would have been different if the ravenwing had scouted to one flank and then come in with a mass of bolter fire at 24" range to minimise return fire?
Love the cheating mat bat reps Always fun to see apart from the 4+ cover save for any of mats 5-9 Pts a model gets for blades of grass in the way. Always interesting to see what else he comes out with.
The Particle Whip, statistically, would do more damage (and you can't use the Portal of Exile attack if you use the Whip at the moment, due to the Ordnance rules). He also couldn't teleport in the Lychguard because they were embarked upon the scythe.
If only Jump Infantry and Jetbikes could be embarked upon it, it would be pointless to have it as a transport option for warriors/immortals lol. All it's saying is that it may carry them in addition to normal transport rules, which allow infantry models and independent characters normally. The sad part though, is that as a Dedicated Transport, it can only be deployed with the selected unit in it. Since it's a flyer and has to start in reserves (and there's no way to re-embark on it), Night Scythes can only ever carry their dedicated unit, and only until the first time they disembark. Unfortunately, as is, the only units that can select Night Scythes as dedicated transports are Infantry models anyway...except for one, which is the Necron Destroyer Lord if it attached itself to one of those units. There aren't any Jetbikes that can embark on the Scythes though, as far as I know.
nice report guys. I'm surprised the ravenwing did so well with their 320pt command squad getting nuked to oblivion first turn. The knight did really well and made up for it I guess.
I don't like how Mat acts and his attitude in this video. Changing rules slightly forcing the other guy to do stuff. Just no, this is disappointing to me.
i havent finished watching yet but matt you are ruthless love it lol but my biggest critique on the ravenwing is drop the fighter and add speeders for harrasement units and use o sammie the same way let him run around basting plasma cannon shots
For their gets hot! plasma wepons when they rolled a 1 (you have to roll a save roll) they were re-rolling them because of twin-linked, but twin-linked is for hiting targets not for gets hot! tests so he should have rolled more gets hot! saves than he did.
Unless they changed it in the new edition, scouting is a redeployment and therefore no need for dangerous terrain. Also, Sammael, Librarian and Command squad all have the rule "Inner Fire" which gives them Fearless.
Actually, it does give you AP2 on all attacks - 'All of the close combat attacks, except Hammer of Wrath attacks, of a model with this special rule are resolved at AP2'. It can then do the Smash attack if it so chooses. Fleshbane is just 2+ to wound in melee (unless it's on a ranged weapon profile, in which case, 2+ to wound when using that weapon).
I field them from time to time and trust me: they're just bad. Not many shots, expensive as hell and you can't bring more than 3 in a unit so most of the time you don't get to roll reanimation protocols
Destroyers are wank and nothing but wank. Deepstriking heavy destroyers can be okay, but necrons already have enough AV in their troops, heavy support and dedicated transports so why bother? Wraiths erryday.
now that my friends is why no one takes destroyers other than the destroyer lord. they are not durable enough to be 40 point models and barely put out more firepower than immortals. the only good thing about them is preferred enemy everything but you could just stick a destroyer lord in a squad of 20 warriors and have better luck.
The portal of exile doesn't roll to hit, so if he wanted to use the particle whip, he couldn't use PoE. Since the particle whip wounds on a 2+ (rather than a strength test, where 5/6 was a fail) and is AP3, probably the more lethal option, especially since the PoE is d6" range as opposed to a large blast.
mdb45424 Means putting the Monolith really close to the Knight, which isn't necessarily a great idea xD Also hard, since he can only move the Monolith 6", and because it's a super-heavy, a failure (on a 6) only causes D3 HP due to the Invincible Behemoth special rule.
Just wondering what your takes on the ravenwing grenade launcher is as my Command squad never leaves home without it especially for DAKKA banner bolted wounding in 3's.
first round why did he shoot the plasma through the cover. they had the same cover as their armor so the benefit of the ap2 was mitigated. rerolled bolter shots would've killed more and saved him two lives
When he got the pen from the knight on the dd arc wasn't his roll +2 therefore since he rolled a 4 doesn't that make it a 6 therefore blowing up the arc?
What is the idea of putting all your bikes in front of the enemy army without cover to let them die? The strength of bikes is speed. Grab objectives, positioning to avoid the majority of enemy fire. Why does he do it?
at around 19:20.. when the doomsday arc fired its blast, it couldn't have. Didn't it jink the turn before? can't fire blasts after jinking because it had to snap-fire.
20:40 why did you roll 11 dice for 5 rapid-firing immortals who'd get 10? 25:04 Ghost Ark had already taken a hullpoint by this time, so AV would have been down to 11 and not still 13, so that roll would have in fact been a pen. 25:13 just like this roll would have also been a pen. By this point the Ghost Ark should have been brought down due to the bonuses on the AP rolls (open topped and AP1 from the multimelta would have been a +3 modifier to any pen roll, and +2 for the plasmagun) 27:43 you just lost an immortal and only have 5 left, so how can you get 12 rapid fire shots? 45:53 cant you fire the particle whip after having used the portal?
I think wiping out a whole squad due to one bad roll is a really not so fun rule. Should just make you stay in combat and take like D6 extra wounds or something.
4+ reanimation for the immortals because illuminor szeras has a resurrection orb and he was part of the squad because he gave them +1 to ballistic skill
Snapper Harrison Well, judging from the pictures GWS use on their website, it looks more like a skull than a res orb (plus it's white, rather than the standard green for res orbs). In addition, his unit entry definitely doesn't have a res orb listed - like I said, it'd be odd since he's a Cryptek Special Character, not a Necron Lord Special Character.
Snapper Harrison it's a dark eldar skull/head. And it doesn't appear on his rules, so it doesn't matter what's on his model if he doesn't have the wargear.
DA HQ are Fearless, so they do not need to make leadership test. Also Plasma Talons are Rapidfire so you made two times too few shots. And you should have been jinking on 2+ with your command squad because your RW attack squad have benn between them and attacker, no?
Vehicle cover saves are all about how much the model is obscured, not 'you're behind X cover therefore you get Y cover save'. 25% obscuring gives you a 4+ cover. 50 - 75%+ gives a max of a 3+ cover.

Yeah this may be 6th ed rule but its definitely not 7th. You only get a bonus to cover save if the facing you are shooting at is not visible but another facing is visible.
so much for Matt bringing destroyers
This was a great report... very painfull to watch but great!
Pretty much no errors this time as both players were at ease with the rules. Lots of slaughter from both sides and a victory that seems easy judging by the points but was actually hard fought!
The lack of a Lord with Mind Shackle Scarabs did show though...
Never mind the Scarabs; no Res Orb for Necrons is fatal!
Almost the same ravenwing list as me! great batrep as always!
the killing of necrons always warms the depths of my heart.
If you forgot to shoot something, and realize before you go into the next phase, seems fair play to go back to it.
Man, I can't wait to see the destroyers in action.......
The only action they do is die... Oh yeah and also suck =D
Daniil Osudin
They got shot up by a Titan, what do you expect? In the games I play (no one plays Titans, D weapons are cheap AF) my Destroyers perform great. Besides, they got RNG'd to death.
I'd like to see what they can do. They're so cool looking!
Andrew Zomerlei The weapon that shot them was just a battle cannon, the most common ordnance weapon in the universe.
Assassins are fearless and fearless units cannot go to ground... This was a good game I enjoyed watching it. The Knight was pretty impressive..
I think the Apoc style units like the knight, baneblade and such are just fun-wreckers, very hard to kill and some have just stupid power/rules to make them ever more crazy.
They're really not hard to kill at all, I've found.
Most people don't account for them so they have a hard time killing them, but it used to be the same way with Flyrants back in the day
I'd get a psykik and try to use Vortex of Doom, the streams D spell
Strenth*
I've never got into Warhammer but have always been curious. After watching a few of these videos, I really want to get into it.
I've played Relic which is obviously not this game, but it gave me a good feel for some of these concepts.
Great batrep guys! I love seeing your videos pop up in my feed!
How massively proud this andrew guy looks in the first scene^^
my thoughts? drop the jetfighter, get more bikes. also- DO NOT GIVE NORMAL BIKES PLASMA GUNS, melta guns for fine is is cheaper, if you want plasma, take black knights. plasma guns are not worth it unless you want fluffy.
I know but the Dark vengeance kit provided me with a lot of plasma guns
Andrew Robertson
the plasma almost did more damage to you than the necrons lol
sorry if I came off a bit "angry" btw. rereading over it I may have. I love my dark angels :3.
i really love the pic of Sanguinius on the wall, made me laugh
Wow that guy had a fast strike plan. But, my goodness I hate when people obnoxiously cheer when one of your pieces dies from itself or even just dies in general. Andrew Robertson
Glad to hear you're not insane lol
So glad ravenwing got rerollable jinks now! losing a squad of knights like that is excruciating T_T
The opening picture took my breath away.
Great Batrep guys, enjoyed the clash (and like others have said, the Bikes look wicked). That Knight got pretty brutal too.
Only one little issue that I spotted - the Vindicare is Fearless, meaning he couldn't have actually gone to ground. Also, maybe it's just me, but I would've tried to go for the table wipe - not easy, I know, but I'm stubborn like that XD
You actually can go to ground you can not fail our weapons are useless. Also I fhe was mounted on a bike he wouldn't be able to go to ground
I don't normally like either race to play with but the strat in this is really interesting. However I think the Librarian should have done more
Also only the targeted unit gets to jink :P if there's another squad hit by it, it's too bad.
coolest battle matt ever tax time ill get one. the ruins could not find them for sale ill keep looking
Damn, i dont think i have seen Matt getting destroyed this hard, ever. Poor Necrons :(
Man those Bikes are nice models, now i wanna do RavenWing
Thank you I did most of the Army but the Command Squad and Librarian were painted by a friend of mine
Triple 6's on the bikes falling back...ouch
Love the cheating mat bat reps Always fun to see apart from the 4+ cover save for any of mats 5-9 Pts a model gets for blades of grass in the way. Always interesting to see what else he comes out with.
Matt should have used the Portal of exile to either teleport lychguard in on turn 1 or to make bikers pass toughness tests...
The Particle Whip, statistically, would do more damage (and you can't use the Portal of Exile attack if you use the Whip at the moment, due to the Ordnance rules). He also couldn't teleport in the Lychguard because they were embarked upon the scythe.

I might have swapped the Nephlim for a Darkshroud to give command squad a juicy 2+ cover save and extra points for more bikes.
Use the judicator battalion formation as it is quite good in combat and is an amazing for scouting
nice report guys. I'm surprised the ravenwing did so well with their 320pt command squad getting nuked to oblivion first turn. The knight did really well and made up for it I guess.
I don't like how Mat acts and his attitude in this video. Changing rules slightly forcing the other guy to do stuff. Just no, this is disappointing to me.
i havent finished watching yet but matt you are ruthless love it lol but my biggest critique on the ravenwing is drop the fighter and add speeders for harrasement units and use o sammie the same way let him run around basting plasma cannon shots
dude was frozen solid during that intro.
The Warriors were pinned when shooting overwatch at Samael and the Librarian.
That guy isn't painfully awkward at all:)
Scout moves are being done before the initiative stealing.
For their gets hot! plasma wepons when they rolled a 1 (you have to roll a save roll) they were re-rolling them because of twin-linked, but twin-linked is for hiting targets not for gets hot! tests so he should have rolled more gets hot! saves than he did.
Incorrect it re rolls any missed shot. Technically the 1 is a missed shot. However if I roll it again I would have to take the save.
Unless they changed it in the new edition, scouting is a redeployment and therefore no need for dangerous terrain.
Also, Sammael, Librarian and Command squad all have the rule "Inner Fire" which gives them Fearless.
Inner Circle*
To be honest with you I forgot the inner circle rule
it makes me sad that the eternity gate didn't get anyone first turn.
WTF!? Why Sammael and Librarian do roll the Leadership test?? They are both Fearless because of Inner Circle special rule!!
I would love to play a game of Necrons VS Ultramarines, but they ain't painted yet 😔
poor necrons getting killed by crazy road rage marines
this woulda whent different if those destroyers wern't obliterated instantly
Around 14:00, the Dark Angels Librarian only has BS4, not 5
19:40 lol this matt guy..
Smash doesnt give you AP 2 on all atacks. You can use smash and do 1 atack 2xS with AP2.
yes but when you have fleshbane your attacks become AP 2 do they not?
Actually, it does give you AP2 on all attacks - 'All of the close combat attacks, except Hammer of Wrath attacks, of a model with this special rule are resolved at AP2'. It can then do the Smash attack if it so chooses. Fleshbane is just 2+ to wound in melee (unless it's on a ranged weapon profile, in which case, 2+ to wound when using that weapon).
I didnt realise you could take 2 different allied detachments.
Can u see if blue table painting can show how to paint the night scythe
Wow, those destroyers got wiped out! Is that why we don't see destroyers very often, or was it just luck and powerful attacks that did it?
it was the latter, that knight is an asshole.
More grey knight batreps!
lol i love the cheese @ 19;40 matt
Is it me or is the guy that's playing the necrons kinda has a funny way of throwing the dice? Just saying.
32:35 Where were your Dangerous terrain test for the pill in move ending your turn in "dangerous terrine"
I like the paint job! How Lind did they take you Andrew? I am on year 2 for my 1500 wolves!
Week or so to be full painted with life being a distraction.
now that my friends is why no one takes destroyers other than the destroyer lord. they are not durable enough to be 40 point models and barely put out more firepower than immortals. the only good thing about them is preferred enemy everything but you could just stick a destroyer lord in a squad of 20 warriors and have better luck.
Jesus Matt, no portal of exile earlier ? Couldn't ask for a better positioning.
The portal of exile doesn't roll to hit, so if he wanted to use the particle whip, he couldn't use PoE. Since the particle whip wounds on a 2+ (rather than a strength test, where 5/6 was a fail) and is AP3, probably the more lethal option, especially since the PoE is d6" range as opposed to a large blast.
wonder why he didnt try to portal the knight
mdb45424 Means putting the Monolith really close to the Knight, which isn't necessarily a great idea xD Also hard, since he can only move the Monolith 6", and because it's a super-heavy, a failure (on a 6) only causes D3 HP due to the Invincible Behemoth special rule.
Seraphina Celosia
ah, we he should have brought some scarabs then, their incredibly cheap, effective vs vechicles like most of the army and fun ;)
mdb45424 exept the Scarab rule has no effect on Super Heavies due to the invincble Behemoth rule
Just wondering what your takes on the ravenwing grenade launcher is as my Command squad never leaves home without it especially for DAKKA banner bolted wounding in 3's.
first round why did he shoot the plasma through the cover. they had the same cover as their armor so the benefit of the ap2 was mitigated. rerolled bolter shots would've killed more and saved him two lives
where do you get those terrain mats?
they are cool.
wait what...?! Necrons lost? but,... they can't! I mean,... they just CAN'T!
Emiliano Zapata Because this is before 7th Edition? Check the dates, how hard is it?
Scout move measuring vs moving appeared excessive. Camera position skews could have been it, but sure appeared off.
Move phase looked the same.
Camera angle it looks like I am moving further than I am
Andrew Robertson Thanks for the response. I know the camera alters appearances, it's just very hard to tell.
matt has agrax earthshade on his shirt
Hmmhnn, yep, hmmhnn, yep, hmmhnn, yep...
Battle cannons are ordinance so the heavy stubbed hits on 6s
Not for a super heavy...
Pretty sure you don't get reanimation protocols against Strength D. At least not against the 6's.
there is actually nothing in the 7th ed rulebook that says anything about reanimations being stopped by D weapons anymore
+CoH 2 SUCKS no, there is
I like that table mat where do they get them?
Where is it that units in a transport get to shoot at normal ballistic skill when the transport vehicle jinked?
By this point the Ghost Ark should have been brought down due to the bonuses on the AP rolls (open topped and AP1 from the multimelta would have been a +3 modifier to any pen roll, and +2 for the plasmagun)
27:43 you just lost an immortal and only have 5 left, so how can you get 12 rapid fire shots?
45:53 cant you fire the particle whip after having used the portal?
I wanna see this :) I played with my necrons against my friends dark angels! (Necrons won)
I just don't understand why anyone would put bikes in battle lines, I just don't understand but at least he has a Ravenwing army.
Why don't he charged the first turn with his bikes ?
The cards can annoyingly make games more luck based depending on if one player gets all useful easy ones. Not a fan personally
I think wiping out a whole squad due to one bad roll is a really not so fun rule. Should just make you stay in combat and take like D6 extra wounds or something.
nice Game und IT look so good , my ask :where Do You have this pretty
Game mit? ?
4+ reanimation for the immortals because illuminor szeras has a resurrection orb and he was part of the squad because he gave them +1 to ballistic skill
Szeras doesn't have a Res Orb - he's a Cryptek style character (hence Eldritch Lance and Gaze of Flame and S/T 4 not 5), rather than a lord.
So why does he have an orb in his hand
Snapper Harrison Well, judging from the pictures GWS use on their website, it looks more like a skull than a res orb (plus it's white, rather than the standard green for res orbs). In addition, his unit entry definitely doesn't have a res orb listed - like I said, it'd be odd since he's a Cryptek Special Character, not a Necron Lord Special Character.
Snapper Harrison it's a dark eldar skull/head. And it doesn't appear on his rules, so it doesn't matter what's on his model if he doesn't have the wargear.
there are also many different chapters of space marines that have they're own codexes and wat not I don't get it lets get that for orks and necrons
+Cameron Cook that would never work
Beregond15 uh huh
+Beregond15 it might be fun to see different Ork tribes and what not. I think it would work for Orks and possibly the Eldar.
I thought the ravenwing command squad could only have 3 black nights? Aren't the apothecary and the champion upgrades for two of the black knights?
Actually FAQ states they can be 5 bikes now and have been for sometime now
Andrew Robertson I'm glad you pointed this out to me. Makes it more viable to take them now
per unit and phase you can only throw 1 granade per squad nice rep thx
incorrect anyone who has grenades can use them in the assault phase
You can throw one grenade per unit in the shooting phase. How ever any model with a grenade can throw one in CC.
13:37, unless DA librarians are different they are BS 4, not 5.
ben riddle DA's are WS 5 BS 4... only Ezekiel is BS 5. Doubt he paid 145pts + bike instead of the base 65 + bike for his tho.
Shouldn't you deploy scouts first, then roll to steal the initiative?
DA HQ are Fearless, so they do not need to make leadership test. Also Plasma Talons are Rapidfire so you made two times too few shots. And you should have been jinking on 2+ with your command squad because your RW attack squad have benn between them and attacker, no?
No Ravenwing Black Knights? For shame.
