    About Comic Book Herald:
My name's Dave, and Comic Book Herald is a labor of love designed to help new, lapsed, and curious comic book readers explore and enjoy the wonderful world of comics. I've been developing reading orders, chronology guides, and detailed comics recommendations since late 2011. Comics can be confusing and intimidating; I try to help.

This issue does impossible work of salvaging this era for me. It’s a gift. It will let me remember these five years fondly.
The krakoa era comics were incredibly important for me. I evangelised for them. It even got me buying comics for a while. It made me not only love Xmen but have them occupy persistent real estate in my brain. I have invested so much mental energy an anima into them. Every day since they started 5 years ago. In that time I endured a break up. 3 bouts of homelessness. The estrangement of the only parent I have. And countless other defeats. It was also the end of my time in academia, carrying me from undergraduate to the final term of my masters. It has been a deeply needed retreat. I really loved so much of this era. It has profoundly influenced who I am. What I believe. How I act and what I’m prepared to do this century. It will forever breathe in every piece of art I make. My final piece for my MA is a long form piece of prose. I credit that in part to this era.
It was also a true joy to read it week to week. Thank you Dave for all your work these past 5 years I’ve really appreciated it
Feels like the end of an era. As it ought to.

Dave, I came for the X-men commentary but stayed for the beautiful rock ballads. I'm interested to hear your opinions and criticism on comics overall, not just Krakoa.

I became a comic book reader fairly recently, when an online article I read during 2019 about the new status quo of X-Men (specifically Xavier being able to walk again somehow) piqued my interest. I kinda forgot about it for a while, but subconsciously fed this growing curiosity of mine with Comicstorian and Comics Explained videos throughout a good chunk of 2019-2020. Come 2020, and I was fully along for the ride, especially pertaining to X-Men comics. That year, I got to read every bit of X of Swords in real time as it was happening, and it was during this time that I discovered Comic Book Herald.
I cannot thank Dave and CBH enough for being my consistent weekly go-to X-Men/Marvel/Comics discussion hub that amazes me with how mostly objective it is but still manages to have some personal flair to it. Additionally, I always seem to find something interesting over at the My Marvelous Year podcast whenever I check it out.
I always feel like other people's opinions of a comic book doesn't necessarily have to influence mine, because at the end of the day how you personally experienced a comic book is what ultimately matters, but never have I felt that more than with regards to X-Men # 700. I enjoyed every bit of it, and I was surprised by how much I was satisfied by everyone's writing/art here, even Duggan's. How each plot thread got wrapped up felt natural to me, and I even got teary-eyed during some parts. In short, X-Men # 700 is a perfect conclusion to my own experience of the Krakoa era.
Now that Dave's weekly livestreams and occasional videos will likely slot in Ultimate Universe discussion as it cycles out the Krakoa era of X-Men, I wish Dave the best in maintaining the interesting mix of objectivity, reason, and personality that I've come to this channel for, week to week, for the past few years. Cheers!

Honestly i think comics could use a bit of the shock value/ edginess/ nastiness of Ennies or Millar from the 2000s. A little bit here and there, in some titles, not everywhere but it would spice things up

Crossed is extreme horror - gore, vile, mean, graphic, violent. Makes sense not many places carry it.

Why did Krakoa have to return to the White Hot Room? Just make a home on Arakko? Why not revive Genosha for those mutants who wanted to stay on Earth. The more I think about the more frustrated I get.

Wait - you’re adding Metroid Dread discussion to my X-men discussion?!! Incredible - have you tried or seen the Prime Remaster? It’s beautiful.

I was heavy into Metroid Dread a few months ago and got decently far I think. But then I just stopped. This might be what I need to get back into it.

And I'm just as far into the Zelda game as Dave is. No, wait; it depends on whether he unwrapped his copy or not.😂

This final issue was way more of a meaningful sendoff to the era. Wasn’t amazing by any means but did a lot of heavy lifting to actually make me FEEL anything at this ending

Am i the only one that hates that they brought back 15 million mutants back to life? First it's never going to matter and 2nd they undid the greatest tragedy in the history of mutantdom off panel, it just felt cheap to me (I was always against the waiting room and being able to revive the genosha mutants)

“Get in your thoughts, get in your questions, I want to know what you thought. I want to see what you think” (rambles on and ignores every comment and question)”
I think this is an area you can improve upon. If you want to foster a community and feedback, you need to walk the walk.
You have an above average public speaking voice and flow. I think your biggest improvement area is to try not to love listening to your self wax on endlessly and actually invite questions and discussion, instead of just talking about it.

He literally said in the video that this kind of feedback is unhelpful and unnecessary and you comment this? He is a dude who wants to talk comics and be himself, he doesn’t need you to be his brand manager

Also, it’s sad to hear you are going to make a conscious decision to be less critical moving forward. Pointing to current day Kevin Smith as the inspiration for this compound this.
You are at your best when you are critical (and a bit cynical), and less wishy washy.
