I would stop and check in on the mutants every now and then but it wasn't until Hickman that I got back to reading X-Men on a weekly basis. I was a little late to the party and read House of X Powers of X in late 2020. I've been hooked since. A little over a 20 year gap since going to a comic shop on a weekly basis.
Chris Claremonts innovation, characterisation, twists & superb X-Men remains unmatched although I enjoyed the Ball issues, especially the Hellions issue

I love the deep dive, but have to say, as a rapidly middle aging X-Men fan both comics and other media, I've not been a fan of the Pod People Non X-Men.
One issue i got never got was people complaining that Xmen had a safety net to stop their deaths, So many other ways to win yet people only focus on one thing? Kinda patheic imo.
@@Subject_Keter It does cut down on the tension when you know you can die and then just come back. Though to my mind its not even "Them" that comes back but a copy. Like Palpatine comes back as a clone.
Hickmans run and ideas were amazing. Editorial interference scuppered the full effect of what we would have seen and not one of those writers were good enough to continue or even meaningfully contribute to Hickmans ideas. The biggest missed opportunity I've ever read but Hickmans stuff is outstanding. You were too polite about what happened, presenting pre prepared answers to promotional questions without context of the disquiet behind the scenes, it was a mess from about mid way onward and has only got worse.
Gonna start this deep dive video but one thing that ticks me is that marvel made too many titles that all tried to connect and it hurt hickman. I preferred hickman with his avengers runs where it was all very self contained and in the end he did Secret Wars but then again non avengers titles weren't being demanded to connect to the avengers run
Definitely still working on DoX, but between work and life stuff I didn’t really have time in the schedule for a full video in November. Already working on December’s, though!
Maybe this is a stretch but I feel like there are historical parallels between Krakoa and the real world Communist experiments namely USSR and Mao’s China. Nations established with good intentions and for justifiable reasons, but due to external attacks and infiltrations, internal conflicts of interest, and stacking ethical errors, eventually crumbled or morphed into a twisted behemoth of their original founding ideals. In the end, we all know the status quo will be re-established for the X-Books. My only hope is that it ends in a manner that doesn’t discredit the importance of oppressed people’s right to self-determinism and the struggle for autonomy.
Glad to hear it! With Destiny of X and everything coming up, I wanted to start building these into bigger, all-encompassing videos so I don't end up having a playlist of 30 videos. I'm still going to be releasing my regular-sized videos but I'll definitely try putting out longer-form comps like this whenever I reach the end of a series
Real talk, Destiny derailed the whole story and she couldnt even "predict" the future ... so she is not only worst then Moira but organized it so she would destory Krokoa if she didnt get her way? Low blow, Low blow. Also Judgement Day was kinda stinky.
Where is a good starting point to read xmen comics? don't want to watch to much of the video until ive caught up. always been a major xmen fan with movies/shows but no idea where to begin for comics
There are plenty of great points to start! If you want to jump right in you could definitely just follow what I covered in the video, starting with HoXPoX and moving forward. That said, plenty of people say classic X-Men starts with Giant-Size X-Men and Claremont’s run through the 70s and 80s.
Tbh this was a amazing way to reboot the entire series it’s time that the strongest species on earth stop being victims and be what they really are powerful strong but also now that they are their own country they have to follow rules other countries have or risk going to war with the world
What I'm confused about is if this is a new universe or not. Moira talks to Xavier before he forms the x-men. So what is confusing me is if the past events actually happened or does Moira just remember it happening and no one else does?
@@ForEveryKindofGeek thank you. Although it's not clear to me in days of future past either. It's just confusing that Moriarty told Xavier all of it before he formed the x-men so wouldn't they not do everything they did? I get what your saying because I know that jean is the tie displaced jean from all new x-men. But it's just confusing to me. My mind tells me that it's a different universe. Again if I was told everything going I'm going to do won't work I wouldn't go that route.
It can be expensive on the whole but I wouldn’t say it locks you into that approach either. My first time around I only bought a few titles and those did a great job of setting up the broader points. That said a lot of the earlier ETA’s being collected in compendiums which are way cheaper than buying every individual trade. They’re also more curated in those, too
The analysis is amazing, too! A great job by the writer(s?), narrator, editor, and VO actors. If I could offer a very minor note, the transition page flip sound could be a tiny bit quieter.
To be honest I haven’t watch this video yet and for now have only skimmed because the beginning edit caught my attention. This editing is so cool and I subscribed because I know I’ll want to see more of it.
House/Powers of X and God Loves Man Kills are my favorite comic stories of all time. Love Hickman
Great video, but the static noise whenever an image comes up gets really distracting after a while.
Chris Claremonts innovation, characterisation, twists & superb X-Men remains unmatched although I enjoyed the Ball issues, especially the Hellions issue
Whoever did the Xavier voice did a very groovy job.
That'd be Aeric from the Geeksplained Podcast! He's got a fantastic voice.
Where can I find the comic dubs shown in the video?
There aren't any, I have friends do readings of certain scenes but that's it.
This video is simply incredible.
Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan...this is AWESOME.
Keep up the great work.
Lavender Jack...Swooping On Down.
Thanks so much!
@@ForEveryKindofGeek, you are quite welcome.
Your videos really are a breath of fresh air.
I could (and have, on occasion) watch for hours.
Lavender Jack...Swooping On Down.
I love the deep dive, but have to say, as a rapidly middle aging X-Men fan both comics and other media, I've not been a fan of the Pod People Non X-Men.
That's valid
You were too polite about what happened, presenting pre prepared answers to promotional questions without context of the disquiet behind the scenes, it was a mess from about mid way onward and has only got worse.
yeah but i dont wanna say it but this guy walks on a thin line between a shill and a critic
High quality stuff man like it by much.
Oh... I didn't expect a compilation. With your usual output I was hoping for an original video.
Definitely still working on DoX, but between work and life stuff I didn’t really have time in the schedule for a full video in November. Already working on December’s, though!
Dude. The glitch sound effects are brutal while using my car’s audio. Can’t do it. I wanted to watch this, but I’m out
Why are you watching a UA-cam video in your car
Really cool video!!! They flowed surprisingly well together too
Great compilation. I would do a vídeo for destiny of x until judgment day, then other until the end of Sims of Sinister
I've already watched the individual videos, but leaving a comment for the algorithm because these are excellent! ^_^
Always appreciated. Thanks!
Wow, fantastic video!
I miss Hickman on x-men because he did a excellent job with the X-men and I it’s him gone nothing in the x-men is making any sense anymore.
You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.
By chance are u on Spotify?
Excellent deep dive possibly your Best x video yet
Glad to hear it! With Destiny of X and everything coming up, I wanted to start building these into bigger, all-encompassing videos so I don't end up having a playlist of 30 videos.
I'm still going to be releasing my regular-sized videos but I'll definitely try putting out longer-form comps like this whenever I reach the end of a series
After being away from the X-Men since 2009, I started reading Jerry Duggan's X-Men book in 2021. I must say, it's quite good!
Real talk, Destiny derailed the whole story and she couldnt even "predict" the future ... so she is not only worst then Moira but organized it so she would destory Krokoa if she didnt get her way? Low blow, Low blow.
Also Judgement Day was kinda stinky.
Wow, impressive work!
Thanks a lot, glad you liked it!
I’ve been waiting for a video like this 🎉🎉🎉
Glad to hear it! Hope I did it all justice
I haven’t even finished yet, and I’m in awe of this work so far. Amazing job!!!!!
amazingly well done
Where is a good starting point to read xmen comics? don't want to watch to much of the video until ive caught up. always been a major xmen fan with movies/shows but no idea where to begin for comics
There are plenty of great points to start! If you want to jump right in you could definitely just follow what I covered in the video, starting with HoXPoX and moving forward.
That said, plenty of people say classic X-Men starts with Giant-Size X-Men and Claremont’s run through the 70s and 80s.
Tbh this was a amazing way to reboot the entire series it’s time that the strongest species on earth stop being victims and be what they really are powerful strong but also now that they are their own country they have to follow rules other countries have or risk going to war with the world
So Beautiful. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
I made some Krakoa portals 1:12 scale KRAKOA IS FOR ALL MUTANTS
Will you ever cover the magneto run by cullen bunn?
I might, I’ve liked that and Greg Pak’s mini for the longest time
What I'm confused about is if this is a new universe or not. Moira talks to Xavier before he forms the x-men. So what is confusing me is if the past events actually happened or does Moira just remember it happening and no one else does?
It’s all the same series of events. Imagine Days of future past in looping form, with Moira as the main character instead of Kitty.
Moira* not Moriarty
I think they probably decided that this reality was the best option up until a point, as long as they set up the Krakoa innovations behind the scenes.
Good premises, the reason he left is unknown to me. I feel like apocalypse was missing from axe
awesome video!!
I really dislike the multiple titles approach. Becomes both expensive to follow and convoluted
It can be expensive on the whole but I wouldn’t say it locks you into that approach either. My first time around I only bought a few titles and those did a great job of setting up the broader points.
That said a lot of the earlier ETA’s being collected in compendiums which are way cheaper than buying every individual trade. They’re also more curated in those, too
This was a fantastic breakdown/analysis of the best X-Men comics since Claremont's run. Can't wait to see the next one!
Lore of X-MEN under Jonathan Hickman | The Rise Of The Krakoan Empire momentum 100
I'm three minutes in, and the production quality is insanely good. I know this story pretty well, but I'm happy to take this ride.
The analysis is amazing, too! A great job by the writer(s?), narrator, editor, and VO actors. If I could offer a very minor note, the transition page flip sound could be a tiny bit quieter.
Fantastic man. U r brilliant. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
great video
Pure Bliss!!🎉
My favourite run!
To be honest I haven’t watch this video yet and for now have only skimmed because the beginning edit caught my attention. This editing is so cool and I subscribed because I know I’ll want to see more of it. You don’t get this much production in comic videos except for maybe Variant comics so this is a breathe of fresh air. Can’t wait to watch and see more content.
Surprised you only have 4K subs.
Thanks so much! I’m actually not quite to 4K yet but I’d love to grow, and I don’t see myself stopping on these videos any time soon.
@@ForEveryKindofGeek please don’t! I hope to become a huge fan
Still waiting for the amazing stuff. So far all they seem to be doing is tearing everything down that was built.
Hickman's run made me really want to collect the xmen, so for me, collecting his run is my giant size xmen1
