The cooking is pretty much what he does. I have a Syncro Vanagon and I’ve lived in it on and off for years but have never cooked even one meal like this.
Chad, I just love when you cook. One of my favorite meals was when you haul the vanigan for repairs, and lived in the uhaul truck, and cooked that steak, vegetables and Irish whiskey. It was fine dining at its best.
Chad... I love how positive you are no matter what the circumstances you encounter... I just got back from a trip to Northern Michigan where my wife and i dealt with numerous roadblocks with hiking/skiing/snow shoe and getting stuck in snow/ice. watching your videos gave me a great perspective on embracing our adventures when then things don't go our way!! Keep up the good work and keep on "van'n"!

I just love watching your videos! I'm a grandma that moved from Washington State 5 years ago to Hilo, lived in the Cascade Range 40 years. Brings back many wonderful memories! Nothing like driving on afoot of fresh snow while it is snowing and there are no car tracks going either way!

Only the second person that I have ever seen make it a real meal!!!! There are people that have a full on kitchen, refrigerator, you name it and they don’t make as much as you just did! There’s only one lady that I watch that lives in a van that does not skimp on her meals when she cooks. In fact her Thanksgiving dinner she made looked amazing,....Wow very impressed!!
Yes but, his new vehicle is much taller and will take a lot of wind and must be careful on curves..it's not like the one he has now. I do I know this?...because I owned one... they are tough but not the best for the rough terrains where Chad likes to go. Merry Christmas!

When cooking pasta or anything else that starts to boil over, put your wood spoon into it. I was given this trick of the trade years ago and it works great. The spoon has to be wood though.

He does wear gloves-you can see him wearing them when he’s shovelling the snow and doing awning. It’s hard to carry out finer tasks wearing bulky gloves however-he would probably cut himself more often.
Always wondered why you never use the van’d stove and sink but now I see you’ve made it into a storage section. Was there any specific reason for that? I find my stove and sink pretty convenient, although it’s a little low. Stay awesome!
You might be able to quiet that heater fuel pump down if you wrap it with several layers of thin foam insulation or packing material. Then hang it with tie wraps or a cord. Throw that rubber mount in your toolbox. It might be useful someday.
I don't know how you get those drone shots in the intro but man.... they are totally awesome. That little Dutch oven is unique. I don't think I have ever seen one that small. I have just recently learned of the diesel heaters, and I am blown away by their efficiency. I don't know how you handle that cold ...man. My fingers get cold quick and when they do.... that's a wrap. I would go into shock in that weather. Great looking meal. Love your videos....they are always awesome.
I found my cast iron Dutch oven at an Army Surplus Store. It has three small feet on the bottom and a lid. I have cooked with it on a gas stove, grill and fire pit. It's my best investment for camping. Loved the meal you cooked Chad!
What you should have done was place the van as a wind break. Carry some star pickets of varying sizes + suitable hammer to secure the tarp. Pack snow on the nearside ground to block the wind under the Van. ! Also, have a custom tarp as an end addition to also block the wind. Use some of the star pickets tied to the roof rack to steady the van from wind gusts.
That good old VW, the old legend has definitely earned a peaceful retirement that’s for sure! I can’t believe how quickly that storm blew in 😳 amazing 👍🏻 Have a great Christmas and stay safe 👊🏻
Whenever I watch these winter van life videos, I think about the early settlers and what it must have been like for them. No van, just a wagon and horses, none of the modern appliances we have now ( although I’m pretty sure Chad would have survived just fine!} I recently read about the Donner party and I am sure they were faced with many such a storm or even worse. I know it was in a different part of America but still...we just don’t have this severe weather where I live in the UK anymore and I miss snow.
Damm! I have to say that for the way the winter storm end it, You still got the beauty of the snowing morning of nature. And I have to say that all your video footage has been awesome! Love the way you make it a real story telling. The position were you place your Drone to come out from, as you enter the curve of the road make it look like someone is behind the camera waiting for you to enter the curvy road, lol. The follow through alignment with the drone, ware the drone capture your way through the road as you go deep in to the woods, showing the beautiful horizon of everything mother nature have to offer. You Rock MAN! Nice Job.

The awning is the best idea ever. Helps with being outdoors without having the snow fall over you.
When we bought our campervan the vendor said "never put the awning up in the wind". I see what he meant now.

I've camped in crappy weather like that on Mt. St. Helen's. A snow wall to deflect the wind saved my camp. Took some effort but well worth it.

Damm! I have to say that for the way the winter storm end it, You still got the beauty of the snowing morning of nature. And I have to say that all your video footage has been awesome! Love the way you make it a real story telling. The position were you place your Drone to come out from, as you enter the curve of the road make it look like someone is behind the camera waiting for you to enter the curvy road, lol. The follow through alignment with the drone, ware the drone capture your way through the road as you go deep in to the woods, showing the beautiful horizon of everything mother nature have to offer. You Rock MAN! Nice Job.
