This song was stuck in my head all day today and I was feeling off since this afternoon. My grandmother who was battling cancer just passed away tonight and this song has made me feel so much closer to her. She loved music and this was one of her favorites. She’s with my grandfather now (he passed in 2020) so I know she must be happy and I’m glad she’s not in any pain anymore. However I’m feeling so much mixed emotions right now and hope God can continue to help me and my family through this time. ❤

Of so many great Temptations numbers, "Just My Imagination" has to be Top 3. It's arrangement, voice and message transports you into another world... the magic that only a great song can do. I used to run the night audit at a hotel in Silver Spring, Maryland and Eddie's sister lived across the street. A couple of times when the Temps were in the DC area, he would stay at the hotel and visit his sister. He would come in around 2 am or 3am from a concert and we'd chat for about 15 minutes or so before he went up to bed. One of the nicest guys you could ever meet. I was only about 19 at the time and I was too stupid to be star struck.
Eddie's voice is such pure magic, I miss the best male Motown group ever to grace our lives in the 60's and early 70's, when David Ruffin left and was replaced it really wasn't the same.
The Temptations---my Mom's favorite group! Back in the day their music could be heard coming from people's homes, car radios, cafe's, grocery stores--everywhere! MOTOWN is the soundtrack of our lives.
Eddie Kendricks, the background vocals, the set design, the wardrobe...everything is just unbelievable. It's as great as it gets. The only other that comes to mind is Elvis' If I Can Dream.

@@AlkalineInsides Yes it was. According to stories i've read Paul was diagnosed. At first he thought it was just stress & exhaustion from excessive touring/ performing on the road. As well as dealing with marriage problems he resorted to drinking which further compliated things, then doctors discovered he had a spot on his liver. Not to mention he smoked cigarettes as well. It got so bad to where he couldn't perform and had to use oxygen.
Look up some stuff by Daptone Records (the label). Some incredible soul music made in the 2010's and now. Their two most famous artists, Charles Bradley and Sharon Jones, have both unfortunately passed away in the last few years but released amazing music that is fairly similar to this in the last 5-10 years. And now the rest of the label roster still carries on this style and makes amazing music. They record using vintage analog equipment like they did in the early 70's and it's a remarkable sound and a fantastic label.
I was a senior in college when this song came out on the Ed Sullivan show. Bunch of us watching at my fraternity house. The song was interrupted by a space shot. Believe it or not. We were pissed. So happy to see it now. Saw Eddie perform it a number of times. The great falsettos, with Eddie, were William Hart of the Delfonics and Russell Thompkins Junior of the stylistics
They absolutely are lip syncing. Play the original at the same time as this version. It is identical. That is an impossibility, if you know anything about singing.

I think what’s happening here, they are lip syncing, but they are lip synching to a re recorded version. So while it’s not the original version, it’s a re-recorded version they are lip syncing to.
This song is my favorite song from them and Cloud 9. All of their music is timeless and in my opinion, they're the best group that ever came out of Motown.

They absolutely are NOT lip-syncing. Kendricks' inflections are different at several points, and the musical arrangement is very different right before "or I will surely die."
