I'm willing to bet that Mayor Jyoti Gondek will be attending events related to Ramadan when it rolls around in March.
She attended both Jewish and Muslim events last year. If the Muslim community ends up following Jewish community's example this year, and chooses to change their "celebrate Ramadan" event into a "celebrate Ramadan and support a free Palestine" event, then she probably won't be attending that one either.

Mayor Gondek gave a reasoned and articulate explanation of why she didn't support using City Hall as a forum for turning what was supposed to be a celebration of faith into a political event. I'm sure she knew that there would be many who would castigate her for not choosing sides in a political way and instead insisting on supporting the people of both Jewish and Muslim faith.
She has already and repeatedly condemned Hamas for being a terrorist and murderously brutal political organization. She made it clear that in not showing political favor for the State of Israel or Hamas, she was still very much in support of the people caught up in this tragic conflict. I think she did the right thing.
