Calgary woman's dream Jaguar purchase turns into a nightmare

- A Calgary woman who purchased a brand new Jaguar two years ago is battling the automaker after she says it has been constantly in the shop for repairs.
Christa Mikkelsen went in a local Jaguar dealership at the start of 2020 to look at vehicles. She told Global News she didn’t have her heart set on any particular vehicle, until one caught her eye.
Mikkelsen said she had never bought a luxury vehicle before but wanted to splurge for her 40th birthday. She said the buying experience was “incredible” but shortly after getting the vehicle home, that changed.
Tomasia DaSilva reports.

They don’t build cars like that anymore hang on to her buddy those girls are fricken loyal and fairly easy to work on.
Can’t believe this is a story. Global needs to hang around a dodge dealer - far more tears there.
Lol, confirmed !
LOL awesome.
She probably knows someone at Global!😊
Jaguar needs to buy some ad space from Global. Dodge does. Won't hear Global telling Dodge horror stories
Agree
and now ya must CRY.... that is a really good response to wasting 80K on a depreciating asset.
When I was working out in Alberta, I asked all of my co-workers about the best car to get. They owned Toyotas and that is what I bought. My Toyota is almost 9 years old and has not had any major issues.
Yep, no one will say North American, with the exception of maybe Ford full size trucks. I've had a Subaru for 6 years and no problems.
I still driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla. No issues.
yup. Well if reliability is your goal, Toyota is right up there. But most of their cars are cheap, plastic interior and boring. Theres a reason they plaster TRD decals all over their vehicles and it is not related to the fun factor of the vehicle itself. BORING.

Those issues were long known. If you can afford luxury but also want reliability there are pretty much only two choices left here. Either Lexus or Acura. Anything else is gambling from my experience.
ok but the car not working properly at the start is ridiculous
Er, Porsche and Audio are known to be VERY reliable.

Jaguar's are known to be lemons
As someone who works in a dealership there is once every couple years that regardless of effort, help from engineering, multiple visits, multiple technicians etc a vehicle cannot be repaired. I have seen the odd new vehicle traded back in to rectify similar situations. The electronics & modules all throughout your vehicles sometimes do unexpected & hard to diagnose things. If a dealership offers a replacement vehicle (and it’s a fair trade/offer) & you say no, how exactly do you help that customer at that point?
Personally if the trade isnt the same car or similar as bought with full warranty if not I couldn't possibly see it as a fair out come
I agree. Take the new vehicle and get on with it.
@@sherryleslie8614 yea! Sometimes there r lemons 🍋 u r best to get rid of the car & grab another one. Why is she so attached to this one? Sometimes it’s the luck of the draw. But if they offer her another car she had better not have to pay much as this one is still under warranty!

Y’all throw that word around way to easily. It would be different if this was someone who had actually done something for you to call them that, but bc she spent a large sum of $$ on a car then that makes her a horrible person?
People work hard, and save $ for nice things. Just bc there are other people who can’t afford things in the world, doesn’t mean she should go out and buy a cheap car to appease you.

I’m so sick of hearing of the poor seniors. You have only 2 outcomes, you die young or you become old. We all know CPP is a joke, so why didn’t they save for their retirement? Yup, that’s a Jaguar !

Truestory scam everywhere nest time go for a Toyota
In the age of information no excuse for not knowing that JLR ( Jaguar Land Rover ) has serious reliability problems . Fun fact they are not the only Luxury/ performance brands that have issues . Do your research , and never " Love" a car ! If you just have to have it then lease it .
When emotions are high, intelligence is low. My advise is, dont commit to big purchases when your emotions are clouding your sense of logic.
Sorry but I find it hard to feel pity for her when there r ppl who work hard for their money to make ends meet and put food on the table for their families. Toyota, Nissan and if u want high end go for a range Rover or Subaru outback. Anyway airing this story is a slap in the face to tons of ppl watching this I have no pity for this woman whatsoever.
Remember "Mad Men"? When the British guy was in financial trouble he ran a hose into his Jag to commit suicide. I laughed, and said "Its a Jag. It won't start!" I was right, and so were the producers of the show. Jaguars are lovely to look at, and I guess maybe fun to drive, though many owners have never been able to find out!
lol how is this even news worthy? I should go on the news that I shouldn’t have to change my oil every 10,000km and still have my warranty. Maybe if she did her reviews first before buying, she would have known that Jaguar is at the bottom of the reliable list.
built on a Monday....where i worked, a woman leased a Kia (red). At the same time, her sister leased a blue one.....the blue one was perfect for 5 years. The red one spent almost as much time in the shop as on the road. Same make, same model, only the colour was different. It happens.....
She should be refunded her money for her warranty and should have that car bought back
Jags have always been notoriously unreliable.
She fell in love with the wrong frog.
You bought a Jag. Nuffield said. Next time do your homework.
At this point you might as well buy any other car brand and slap a Jaguar decal on it and youll have the Jaguar you always dreamed of lmao
1 year of jag loaners while yours sits in the garage not racking any KMs seems pretty nice. Why are you even driving a jag in the winter anyways.
80k car in the winter , must be nice ... What's wrong? A 20k "winter beater" isn't appealing enough?
poor Karen
she needs to talk to the manager ..
this experience has traumatized her..
That's just par for the course if you buy a Jag
It would only take a little research to find out what POS these cars are. Not worth 8k, let alone 80k.
She bought a Jag. What did she expect? Jaguars are not known for reliability. Pretty to look at but a nightmare to own. The depreciation of an out-of-warranty Jaguar is massive due to the fact that when things break and when they do the parts and labour costs at a Jaguar dealer are ridiculously high. Most people that have Jags, Mercedes Benz, BMW and Landrovers don't buy them, they lease. At the end of the lease and warranty, they give them back to the dealer. She bought the vehicle and in 2 years has only had the use of it for one year? How long does it take to repair a vehicle? Just maybe Canada needs better consumer protection laws? Like the lemon laws, they have in the US? At least the vehicle will have low mileage on it as she had a loaner for one year. The only luxury brand that you buy would be a Lexus.
They Jagged her off
She should come to a dealership in Minnesota instead. She can get a Jaguar here. Her own country let her down.
Jaguar/Land Rover are notorious for this. Lady buys one and values dependability? Lol
Legend said She's still paying European Car for her lifetime.
Imagine buying a car that costs 80 grand but living in a townhouse 🤦🏽♂️

This is absolutely unacceptable what this woman is doing she should be ashamed her car was in there for a year????
You made that up in a line 100% didn’t you?Absolutely unacceptable
Not surprising based on my love / hate relationship for this car company. The dealership experience / service department of the current company is entirely unsatisfactory. Between horrible dealership experience, and unreliable vehicles, I don't see how this nameplate can survive after already going through several resets. It's supposedly going upmarket into Bentley territory in a couple of years, but will typical Jaguar uneven reliability be the final nail. This woman did buy a beautiful car, but unfortunately, its a show horse. Will the last person in the Jaguar not bother turning off the lights .....they turned themselves out.....
People make choices in life.
Some are good, some are bad.
This lady made a bad one. Live with it. Learn from it. Move on.
The owner should have done her homework and listened to UA-camr Scotty Kilmer to stay away from Jaguar!
In the old days you would put a chevy 350 engine in jags, the kit came from a company called. Jags that run.
You're supposed to get used cars inspected independently before you buy them.
