    okay, listen to this conspiracy:
    so,Narfi's sister is dead. in a river. who killed her? i think it was Wilhelm. you have another quest where a dark elf has you bring black briar mead to wilhelm illegally. i think Narfi's sister Reyda found out about wilhelm's smuggling deals while out to get plants, so he had to silence her. he then went to kill narfi, and hit him on the head. it didnt kill him, but fucked up his head. the first thing Narfi said after being hit was "Wheres Reyda?" so Wilhelm had to tell him she would be back soon. was good enough for him. thats why when you talk to Wilhelm, he notices Reyda's belongings.
    now, when the dragon born comes along asking questions, he sends you to Giermands Hall hoping you would go inside and get yourself killed. thats why he also said the thing about the barrow. he see's you asking questions and is trying to indirectly silence you as well.

      Great Theory!
      But it still does not explain who took out the contract on Narfi, unless Wilhelm just got annoyed about having him about so decided to get somebody else to finish the job. But if he killed Reyda why not just attempt to kill Narfi again?

    that river is broken AF. on one side of the bridge, it flows out towards the island. on the other side, it turns into rapids that flow through the village. there's nowhere for water to come in. THIS is the REAL mystery!

    There is a hunter in Ivarstead named Barknor that says to watch out for wolves. But there are bears around Ivarstead, not wolves. And those spots are really easy to get to. So maybe he shot an arrow at a werewolf, and accidentally hit Reyda. And Barknor always has his bow equipped at all times. So Wilhelm is either innocent or he really saw it. But ultimately, the werewolf theory makes sense and this is just a theory on what happened.

      Not possible because whenever you kill a werewolf,that person dies as a werewolf. So, reyda couldn't be a werewolf when killed because her skeleton is human when found

    Here's what I think:
    Narfi is indeed a werewolf. He can't get a good night sleep, and when Reyda, his sister, and the only safeport he has, is gone for more than usual, he gets nervous and sometimes he even turns into the beast form.
    Now, when the Dragonborn turns into a werewolf, he/she "wakes up" in the middle of nowhere, without knowing what happened during the tranformation. Knowing this, it is quite possible that the same happened to Narfi when he transformed. He couldn't control himself, and as you said, he didn't see the difference between friend and foe, and he unconsciously went on a rampage to where he knew his sister went to get alchemy ingredients, in a sense of loyalty and protection.
    Meanwhile, Wilhelm was hunting some wild animals, rabbits and pheasants, when he noticed a big creature running nearby. He saw Reyda going to the small island earlier and not coming back yet, and the fact that the creature was going in that direction, made him fear for Reyda's life. So he chased the creature to the river, but it was dark and suddently there were two silhouettes near each other. At this time of the night, he assumes that one of the silhouettes is Reyda returning.
    He unseathes his bow, takes an iron arrow of it's quiver, aims at the bigger silhouette and shoots. A roar is heard. Wilhelm hit the creature.
    But the creature didn't die, so Wilhem prepares a second iron arrow and aims, but right when he lets the arrow go to meet the target, the creature roars again, which makes Wilhelm shake a bit. The arrow misses it's target for milimeters, and hits the smaller silhouette. A pain scream is heard, then silence.
    The creature gets on it's knees near the now dead body and holds it in it's big paws. Wilhelm doesn't see any movement, except the head of the creature facing the moon, and then he hears a sad and deep howl. He prepares another arrow, ready to shot the creature in the head, but the creature starts to shrink and he sees a human shapped silhouette. With an arrow still ready to shoot, he gets closer to whatever that is, and when he gets close enough, he notices that it's Narfi, holding Reyda's corpse is his now normal sized arms! He thought about what just happened and when he realized he killed Reyda because Narfi was a werewolf, he panicked and hit Narfi's head with the bow he was holding. Narfi then blacked out.
    He left Reyda there, not before saying they'd meet again in Sovngarde, and took Narfi back to his home, hoping he wouldn't remember anything from that night, and right after that he sold the bow to Zenithar-knows-who, alongside with the arrows he had left, so he wouldn't be framed for Reyda's disappearance or her murder.
    Narfi woke up the next morning, not remembering having turned into a werewolf, just like the Dragonborn on his/her first turn, and when he sees Wilhelm, he asks him if he knows where's Reyda, because she hasn't come back home yet. Wilhelm loses the fear of being found out by Narfi, and tells him she'll be home soon. Narfi believes and goes back home.
    But now Wilhelm, who has a deep sense of duty for Ivarstead, remembers there's a werewolf in the village, and because he's afraid Narfi kills anyone, or even start to ask some questions about some weird memory fragments he could have of that night, he performs the Black Sacrament, and just like that, there's a contract on Narfi.
    But actually, that's not Wilhelm's only problem. The Dragonborn appears and starts to ask the questions Wilhelm didn't want answered. Hoping Reyda's body didn't stay on the same place for the past year, Wilhelm tells the Dragonborn she was last seen going to the small island to gather alchemy ingredients, and never came back. And in fear that the Dragonborn would answer the questions taht shouldn't be answered, he also tells about a cave there, Geirmund's Hall, a dangerous place Reyda could have got into and died there.
    The Dragonborn proceeds to discovering what happened to Reyda, and as he/she crosses the river two iron arrows are spotted floating in the river. These are the two arrows Wilhelm shot that night. After closer observation, the Dragonborn notices something under the arrows, on the bottom of the river. A skeleton with an apothecary's satchel identified as Reyda's satchel. More specifically Reyda's skeleton, that stayed half buried for the past year.
    Once the Dragonborn takes the necklace of the satchel, and shows it to Wilhelm, he panics, and starts to talk nonsense, so the Dragonborn thinks he was unaware of Reyda's death.
    I'm pretty sure this wraps it all up. ESO please let me know if this theory sounds believable.
    I love watching your videos, dude, you rock! ;)

    In norse mythology, Narfi was one of the two sons of Loki. He was killed when his brother, Váli, was turned into a wolf and Narfi's intestines were used to bind Loki. Could be an indication that the werewolf theory has some weight to it.

    • @DaytonCassel
      @DaytonCassel 7 років тому +13

      YES! This is it! Think about it. Much of this game is based on Norse culture and mythology. Narfi's sister was ther werewolf! Narfi found out and than he killed her to protect every one. He cannot cope with his actions than recedes into infantile state or and alter ego. If what earl says is true i would think that this would be the best explanation. Werewolf Reyda. Now that does not say who put the contract on Narfi... Or did we miss something. When you show Willy the amulet i though is reaction was that of a distraught lover and hearing the truth he freaked out at the reality of his dear Reyda's demise. He might have saw it and held on to hope that she was still alive being that she is a werewolves are hard to kill and Narfis pitiful iron arrows where not silver. He might have waited originally to run to her aid because she was obviously unapproachable in her werewolf form and the next morning he might have went looking for her. Realizing that someone in the town knows her secret reyda never returns but could still be alive. Until we verify her body... This also would give weight to why he put the contract out on Narfi. Narfi killed his lover and he saw it. He himself couldn't kill Narfi the kin to his lover and even when he ask you to kill another. He may be a criminal but he is not a killer.

      Earl Settle The strange problem here is Narfi is very much alive and everyone is very much dead. The best way to test the Werewolf theory is to transform into a werewolf in front of Narfi and see what happens. If he is a werewolf he will transform into a werewolf to protect himself.

    Okay, but I see something a lot more, I dunno, Lovecraftian here. The way nobody else even acknowledges Narfi's existence, Narfi's lunacy, and especially the way that Narfi and Wilhelm say the exact same thing upon hearing that the dragonborn found Reyda. It's so unnerving to me that they would say the exact same thing, it has to be connected somehow, I just don't know how.

    • @samurai6817
      @samurai6817 5 років тому +8

      Hella late but, I think them mirroring each other is just "irony". It's been noted many times that NOBODY except Wilhelm acknowledges Narfi's existence in the village. Therefore it WOULD HAVE TO BE, by this logic, Wilhelm who performed the black sacrament. Nobody else cares of Narfi's existence in his own village, except Wilhelm, so why would anyone else in all of Skyrim go through the trouble of the black sacrament.
      Dark Brotherhood contracts are supposed to be anonymous. So it's also ironic that the Dark Brotherhood member (dragonborn) is meeting and interacting directly with the contractor (Wilhelm) of the hit (Narfi)

    good theory but what if nafi's sister reyda was the werewolf and thats why she goes out away from village so she doesn't kill anybody and its reyda as a werewolf that destroyed the trees and not a bear then one night wilhelm went out to hunt and saw the werewolf and killed it with iron arrows then seeing reyda was the werewolf he panicked and buried her body half in the mud at bottom of river so her body wouldn't float to top and he forgets to pick up all of the arrows leaving two behind..

      This seems like the most likely theory and if narfi is also a werewolf as ESO said this could mean that it is hereditary. So perhaps the village hunter, Barknor killed Reyda but i doubt the you would bury some one underwater, perhaps a stone to weigh her down or maybe he used the arrows to anchor her to the river bed.

      And in the attack Reyes hit him in the head

  • @Tinmann_77
    @Tinmann_77 6 років тому +88

    I know it's an older video but wanted to point out the flaw in the river (which another poster did already) it flows west towards the island from the bridge, but also south east away from the bridge, over a waterfall towards Narfi's family farm. So no way for the body to float upstream from the house, past the town, up the waterfall to make it to the west side of the bridge.
    You also missed out on a huge "coincidence", Reyna has been missing about a year. The "ghost" of the crypt was first seen about a year prior, after checking the crypt and defeating the "ghost" you find out its a guy who uses a potion he made himself. Who makes potions? Alchemists. What are they made of? Alchemical ingredients, much like what Reyna was collecting. While I like the Narfi as a werewolf who took out a contract on himself out of regret, it's not likely since Astrid gave you the contract to kill Narfi, and she is selling the brotherhoods services not getting missions from the Dark Mother. It's much more likely that the murderous "ghost" killed Reyna when she stumbled on him gathering ingredients for his potion, her position close to the bridge to town helps support she was heading back to town or home from the island when she died. He then had to pay for the Brotherhood to kill Narfi, who was bringing too much attention to Reyna's death with his drunken ramblings and rantings.

    • @SozeSR
      @SozeSR 5 років тому +5

      Why would the “ghost” care about drunken ramblings from a guy who secludes himself from the entire town though? Plus the “ghost” doesn’t have an identity, at least to the rest of the town, so why would he care if Narfi was bringing attention to the murder? No one even knows he exists as a living being.
      The two arrows on her corpse indicate a bow, the “ghost” doesn’t use it nor has one when entering the Crypt, however your theory does beg the question, why has this guy made himself appear ethereal just to haunt a tomb and tell people to stay away? On top of that the “ghost” has a unique name and even a journal which indicates some relevance in a plot. You could argue he was after searching the whole tomb, however, he wouldn’t get very far without the claw as the claw door is literally in the next hallway. So knowledge isn’t the intention. Which a lot of people aren’t bringing into relevance that Wilhelm has the claw for the barrow. It’s funny he mentions it so much as if he wants you to deal with whatever is going on. That theory isn’t exactly stable though as he mentions the barrow even before Narfi wants you to find Rayda.
      Let’s not forget that when showing the necklace to Wilhelm he utters the exact same dialogue Narfi does when presenting him with the necklace. This can’t be a matter of mere coincidence or nervousness since the dialogue is word for word across 2 characters. Perhaps Wilhelm has relations with Narfi, family perhaps. It would explain why no one else in the town actually even speaks about Narfi at all or his sister for that fact. There is only two reasons why Wilhelm would go out of his way to even know Narfi. He’s family or a very close family friend, or he is guilty and murdered Rayda in cold blood. There is no other intention to be frank they’re all sceptic and not broad enough to even consider as a reason. He is the only one who even knows who Narfi really is, he calls him “harmless” that’s kinda a big word for someone who probably doesn’t even spend a great deal of time with Narfi considering he runs an Inn and likes to hunt. He must know him in a more personal capacity or perhaps he knew Rayda in a more personal capacity her being so bound to take care of Narfi he would have to know Narfi too.
      End conclusion: Only one who knows Narfi, speaks of him with a personal knowledge of him enforcing time spending with Narfi or being around him. Also Narfi can’t be a werewolf because werewolves are typically known for only wearing trousers because of the body transformation a shirt wouldn’t work, so Narfi can’t be a werewolf. Despite his ramblings about the moon, and Rayda “being in the clouds” it is clearly enforced he is portrayed as a Neanderthal who requires help with basic things, hence Rayda always being away to collect potions, probably in attempts to ensure that Narfi was healthy and well. You can’t speculate that his Neanderthal attitude is mistaken for denial or craziness either as he would have changed when saying “she will be home soon” but it doesn’t, so he has always been needed to be taken care of. Which explains her potion brewing. Wilhelm also told Narfi she’d be home soon, could be a guilty conscience but it’s not concrete evidence he did it. The evidence all points to him but in Skyrim it’s never really the case of Mr Obvious, my best guess is that someone was waiting for Rayda they knew her movements and struck but why wait to attack till she was coming back from the island? Why not just shoot her while she was over there? Surely would have made for a harder find of her remains. Unless she wasn’t killed coming back from the island, maybe the reason Wilhelm knew Rayda so well is that they were intimate and he was getting tired of her moping around after Narfi and perhaps she broke things off because of it? Why would someone shoot her with a bow so close to the town? It would be very easy to identify who had done it bearing in mind you catch the killer. Plus her Body is buried in the dirt, meaning her body as a corpse didn’t ever float, hence her not being found. Maybe the arrows were planted in hopes another would take the blame, Wilhelm has a clear passion for hunting what better way to throw off your scent that plant some arrows on the body to pin the only other guy with a bow and arrow, would also explain why he doesn’t have his bows and arrows present. Non the less I think it’s Wilhelm, I’d like to think there is more to it and a lot of things don’t add up but there isn’t enough info to make a clear cut right here

      the theory sounds good, but has some flaws.
      If the relict hunter from the crypt had killed her, then it must have been in his stable time where he didnt think of himself as a ghost and had written everything down what happened. Something that important like killing a woman he would have mentioned in the journal.

    Narfi is not a werewolf. He is a werebear! Think about it: why would there be no bears encroaching upon the village? The bears are literally on Ivarstead's border and could make their way over and pilfer through the farms and have a wholesome chicken meal before all of Skyrim rushes in and kills them because you know how Nords feel about their chickens. There are bears near the bridge of Ivarstead, the river falls north or Ivarstead and right on the 210 the and higher steps on the throat of the world, yet no encroachment... Bears tend to steer clear of rouge male bears that seem stronger and more aggressive, and what is more aggressive than a male Werebear?

    What if Narfi is a wherewolf, killed Reyda, and Wilhelm saw this happen and tried shooting Narfi, who was a wherewolf at the time. Then when he realized later that the werewolf he saw kill Reyda was in fact Narfi, he called upon the dark brotherhood to kill Narfi before Narfi killed again.

    • @Rodox2k10
      @Rodox2k10 7 років тому +17

      My thoughts exactly. Nothing incriminates Narfi really and that's been proved when ESO killed him and found nothing suspicious when searching his body. That leads to the conclusion the *Human Narfi* did not kill her because he was expecting her all this time. Now, maybe one night Narfi turned werewolf and it was walking by the bridge, spotted Reyda on her way back home and killed her and then Wilhelm (who apparently cared about her) eye-witnessed that and attacked the werewolf but this theory fails miserable because of two key factors: A) according to ESO, there is no bow to be found at the tavern and B) If Wilhelm was the guy who ordered Narif's murderer, why would he even bother to tell Narfi Reyda would come back one day?
      Conclusion: the more I think about Wilhelm's actions the more I think he's trying to hide something Reyda found out about. What's bothering me is this: if he managed to get rid of her, why did he spare Narfi?

    • @ammonkempton1016
      @ammonkempton1016 7 років тому +3

      Friendly counter for the sake of exploration: answer to A: perhaps it was a hunter then that shot at the werewolf. Then in dealing with Wilhelm, wetherby selling goods or over a drink, the hunter told Wilhelm of the encounter and wilhelm further investigated, continuing the theory. and to B: To make Narfis last days bearable and full of hope because Wilhelm is genuinly a good guy just trying to keep the town and its people safe and happy.

    Okay so here's my story about it. Wilhelm is actually a werewolf as well, in fact everyone in the town is a werewolf, that is why everyone tells you not to stay in town and you should get out as soon as possible, except for Raeda and Narfi, they lived on the other side of the river by themselves and never became werewolves. One day Raeda was out getting ingredients on the island when she came across the cave for her first time and decided to look around it for ingredients. She stayed out a little too late and Narfi gets worried so he leaves the house to come and look for her. That night Wilhelm was out preparing to hunt small game and such around the village like he normally does when Narfi shows up and sees him turn. Wilhelm attacks Narfi biting him and about to kill him when his sister shows up and starts shooting what few arrows she has at him. Wilhelm then turned on to her and attacked her. After she was killed the night had almost run out and Wilhelm turned back into a human and saw what he had done. Raeda was dead and Narfi was still alive and was turned into a werewolf. Afraid of what Narfi would do if he found out he killed his sister Wilhelm threw her corpse into the river along with all her belongings, her satchel and a few arrows. He then took Narfi back to the inn to treat his wounds before he woke up. The shock of the incident left Narfis mind shattered and broken. He didn't remember anything but Wilhelm was still uneasy about having Narfi be a werewolf so he hired the brotherhood to kill him before Narfi hurt someone in the village or remembered about the attack and enacted his revenge.

      Augusto Luís to be fair within the context of the lorr and history, they didn't/ don't have a listener and Astrid was performing her own assassinations leading to her betraying the brotherhood. It might be this that explains that flaw. Think about the orphan who was found performing the sacrament over and over. Looked like he'd been there for a long time without the brotherhood realising, even dialogue between two NPCs reveals hes been there for a while. On top of this the night mothers corpse has been in transit before you find cicero so this might add some credence to explaining this flaw

    I always thought the whole family was assinated. No proof of that with the parents, but it seemed a bit strange to me that the entire family seemed to have died. Reyda could have been sniped by a dark brotherhood member on her way back to the village. That could absolutley explain why there are two floating arrows above her corpse. Who's to say their parents weren't also murdered by an assassin? It also seemed fairly strange to me that no one in the village seemed to want to at least help Narfi. No one talked about fixing up his house a bit so he wouldn't freeze to death, he appears to gather his own food, in fact, most of the townsfolk seem to ignore the fact that he even exists. Especially with Narfi being 'harmless'. It's also pretty damn clear they want you out of there quick, while also really pushing the whole 'there's nothing to see here' excuse. This dosent explain the strange dialogue that Wilhelm gives you if you present him the amulent. Could be a glitch. Could be something else. Ivarstead has always given me a subtle Hackdirt vibe. Something is off about that whole town. and I think the game gives you just enough to know that things aren't normal around there. I'd really like to know how Reyda and Narfi's parents died. Reyda and Narfi were murdered. Were their parents as well? There's a lot of questions here that dont seem to have answers. I think the whole family had a hit out on them. My question is who ordered the hit, and why?

      I Agree with this theory, My idea is that the entire town shipped in to assassinate this family over the years. They obviously hate outsiders and are definitely hiding something, maybe Narfi's family didn't conform to their whole "secret society" they have going on, maybe they found something out about the village and thus started the assassinations. As for Wilhelm, I may have missed it so this could be wrong, but he seems to be a little less familiar with the town than others? According to him everyone in the town calls the burrow Geirmund's Hall and he seems to be the only one that has no idea why so... Could he be newer to the town? Maybe he has been there just long enough for people to accept him into the town and at the same time he isn't nosey so nobody despises him, as opposed to Narfi's family.
      To continue, it is odd that Reyda is the only one that goes to this island? Maybe the village has some belief about this place and they either guard/worship it for some reason, hell maybe they are scared to disturb the dungeon in fear that it will awaken the draugr and piss them off, causing an attack on the town, this would make sense as to why Reyda would be assassinated by the town as they would be afraid of her messing with the island, the parents where probably the same, and then Narfi just became loose weight and was unnecessary to keep around.
      So long story short: Most of the town holds this big belief/secret, Narfi and his family either didn't know he secret and where nosey or didn't share the belief (This could explain why their house was isolated from the rest. Wilhelm was nosey/didn't contest their beliefs, obviously he never went to the island and he didn't know much about anything proving he wasn't nosey, so they leave him alone.
      I think the text thing with Wilhelm is a glitch, or he honestly cares about Narfi because he isn't like the rest of the village..
      Who knows maybe this is village is a reference to population 436 and the town just doesn't want their population to change and "upset the gods" and this family just had to go :/
      Their is a lot of things it could be but I think that it is obvious that the entire family was contracted out throughout the years as whoever made the Black Sacrament was able to afford each

    Here's some interesting tid bits of Nordic lore:
    In chapter 50 of Gylfaginning, to punish Loki for his crimes, the Æsir turn his son Váli into a wolf and he dismembers his brother, "Nari or Narfi", whose entrails are then used to bind their father.
    Narfi may have originally been a demon of the dead, whose name could be related to the Old Norse word nár, "corpse"

      well to be fair as dragon born I Carry a few on hand weither I need them or not lol. but there could be a few explanations as why the dadria heart showed up here. for one, they are at the base of high Hrothgar. so maybe it's either for travelers going to see the grey beards or for the grey beards themselves, which would be an odd twist to a seemingly innocent group of old men. the other theory is there was an alchemy table in the house before it was trashed. but generally speaking those with dadrea hearts are not brewing Mead. so there is a hint of trouble there. and again, this guy was a mark for the brotherhood. the only mark without an explanation.think the most common npcs I find hearts on are vampires or those directly serving dadrea. we already killed one vampire in the brotherhood. so I can conclude he was a werewolf, or at the very least a vampire.

    So, here's my theory. Narfi was always crazy. His sister AND wilhelm both knew this. Wilhelm was possibly at some point in a relationship with reyda, which is why he knows so much about narfi. About how he reacts and what he says.
    Now, Reyda was a werewolf. She would go out, away from the village, in order to protect the villagers and keep her secret. The only one that knew this, is Narfi. but as previously mentioned, narfi is crazy.
    Now, who has a bow, and isn't at all a part of the town? The hunters on the path to high hrothgar. One day, reyda went up the mountain and took 2 arrows in werewolf form. She ends up reverting on her way back, dying from the injuries and falling into the river. The hunters even specifically say "not much more than wolves" despite there not really even being wolves on the mountain.
    Reyda would likely go to the island, gather herbs, hide the bag somewhere, transform, go hunting, revert, return to the spot she hides her bag and then go home. Because she was mortally injured, she tried to grab her bag to make some sort of healing salve or something, but died before she could either save herself or return home.
    The contract is likely simply from some other villager that's tired of having a raving lunatic in the town.
    Narfi makes werewolf comments because reyda was one for potentially years, and may even have been who killed narfi's parents. Due to this relationship, and his insanity, he may have ended up thinking he's a werewolf, despite not being one, due to being related. Potentially even being crazy enough to think the curse would move to him if she was dead, thus the two wildly different responses in terms of sleep. It's possible that even his parents were werewolves as well, though doesn't seem quite as likely.

  • @goldenelfgaming4327

    My theory is that Wilhelm was out hunting one late evening/night and he accidentally killed Reyda on her way home from the island (coming home soon like the moon). I think Narfi witnessed her murder and being unable to cope with it, he develops a second personally (a child-like personality). Wilhelm also says that Narfi only started acting the way he does after Reyda's disappearance. Wilhelm then realizes that Narfi knows what happened. Narfi does say his sister is in the clouds.
    This could explain why Wilhelm acts the way he does when you bring him the amulet and reason for the Dark Brotherhood contract for Narfi.

    • @torquevonthorne948
      @torquevonthorne948 7 років тому +5

      I agree on the accident, but I think Narfi is crazy because of the pain of losing both his parents. He probably assisted to their death: seems to me that an accident happened to the house years before, probably a fire or a landslide, after all it is close to the mountainside. And there is a skeleton behind Narfi's house. From that moment on big sis Reyda took care of him, but after her death he has been on his own. Wilheim made the Black Sacrament because he wants to bring him out of his misery and to forget the past, there's no way he can be incriminated for a long passed incident, after all he's more relieved than upset when you take interest in the case. When there are mysteries involving an entire town the game is much more explicit. Maybe Rorikstead is the one only true mystery of Skyrim. About Fastred's family: they only speak about the town being boring because in fact it his: Bassianus (the imperial with the same voice of Nazeem) wants to move to Riften and take Fastred with him and he does after completing the first quest of the book of love (alone, never shipped Fastred with this jerk. Also why the fuck does he give you a daedra heart in the first place? what if it was her heart? Was he the person that killed her? why would people in the village say to the player to get out of town? do the townsfolk really know what happened to her and just want to keep this a secret from travelers that are passing through?

    One of my theories:
    Reyda came back late one night and saw Wilhelm's smuggling partner(s) (evidenced by the dark elf delivery quest involving Black Briar Mead), who murdered her and sank her body near the bridge. Wilhelm has a strong suspicion about what happened, but can't prove it, and isn't about to start an investigation as it would reveal his own illegal dealings and cause suspicion to turn on him. He is torn apart by the guilt, and tries to be kind to Narfi, but can't do too much without raising eyebrows.
    This explains why her body is close to the bridge, is partially buried and not floating down the current, was killed by iron arrows (but no one in town has a bow, i.e. the smuggling partner did it), and could explain Wilhelm's panic upon seeing her necklace, as it could mean you found evidence and he might be incriminated.
    How this ties to the DB contract? Not sure. If you complete the Narfi quest first, it may suggest that either Wilhelm or his smuggling partners panic because of possible resurfaced evidence and decide to take out any possible witness ties by killing Narfi through the DB so they can't be tied to it. If you take the DB contract first, you will never complete the Narfi quest, so it's a complete mystery then...
    I do really want to know how and why both Reyda and Narfi have Daedra hearts on them though..........

    To be fair, the theory is sweet... But it have some holes.
    1: The two arrows...
    If Reyda goes to an island that hold no danger in order to pick herbs, she most definatly did not have reason to bring a bow or arrows of any sort. Furthermore, we see no quiver, no weapons with her. Two arrows suddenly popping to the surface? Suggests they been lodged in the body and presumedly they been picked loose by the current
    2: Location
    The body is placed in the stream OPPOSIT of the house. If Narfi had indeed been a werewolf and killed her, why would he go across the stream at their house, dump her MID STREAM along the village, where there is plenty of chance to be spotted, without anyone mentioning it? The fact that Reyda's skeleton is covered in some sediment and did not blow to the surface suggests that by the time the corpse is dumped, she'd have been dead for a while as a corpse will normally otherwise bloat due to internal gasses and be pulled to the surface, which would then have dragged her corpses BACK to the herb isles and further out into sea if it did not wash up underway
    3: Her items
    There is herbs in her satchel. She was clearly headed back from the Island. Wilhelm knows of her schedule but there does not seem to be any greater cause for him to kill her. The village is far away from anything and there is nothing that suggests she would give him trouble, even if she knew he smuggeled stuff. Reyda have spent time gathering materials to sustain them both. Perhaps Narfi were an alcoholic BEFORE her death as well? We previously seen siblings care for another that drank away all the cash
    4: Behaviour
    Willhelms answer to the necklace is not "Oh no, you found her". It actually suggests he might have known their parents and knows Narfi in a different manner. The fact he directly quotes Narfi's "Never got to say goodbye" suggest that Narfi might actually be mentally challenged rather than anything else. It would also explain why Willhelm cannot bare to tell him the truth. And if that is the case, Narfi is unable to take care of himself, yet he got all he needs. Perhaps our dear innkeeper actually brings him food and drink to sustain him, feeling sorry that his sister left?
    Theorem:
    Reyda is extremely close to the village, yet her skeleton seem to have no clothes and is located with two arrows floating to the surface (I presume in some instances, they will be lodged in the ground underwater, explaining why you ain't seen them before) proving that she was murdered. A bow is not a close-up weapon and considering how close she is to the shore, it is quite possible she been shot from the other side, OUTSIDE of town and have dropped into the water whilst weighted down by equipment. As her body have decomposed, clothes have slowly vanished yet more sturdy items, such as her leather satchel, the wood of the arrows and the arrow heads (The arrows as a whole) have remained there. Sediment have layered atop of her and local wildlife have eaten away at the corpse slowly, explaining why she have not surfaced or been taken by the stream.
    Considering she is just a herb picker and her brother is a target for the Brotherhood, perhaps she have been a previous target of another aspirant? Such would explain why she been killed from a distance outside of eyeshot, still have her most valueable belongings (Necklace and herbs) and nobody have heard or seen her.
    Same as with Narfi. An easy and seemingly random target to prove yourself.
    Frankly, I think we need to look at a bigger picture. We see the black sacrement and know that the Dark Brotherhood been pushed back over several turns.. A year ago, we are talking the start of the civil war, the Brotherhood still having some leeway. And we also know as a fact that after the main questline, you are often sent to far-flung towns to take care of seemingly useless targets. I think Reyda been just that.. A more or less random target for an initiate.
    What further debunks the werewolf theory is that any place where werewolves have been sighted, they are either feral or very well aware of the fact that they are werewolves.. And the citizens know too.. A small village like this, you would notice if people were killed by a werewolf, if such a creature was lurking nearby and so forth. Narfi do not seem to have a greater intellect that would make him capable of hiding this...
    Conclussion:
    The evidence do not, at any point, point towards a werewolf attack. No matter what angle we take this from, it do not explain the two arrows. Willhelm might have a motive, but that is vague and it is based on a lot of hunting goods... But while there are no hunters in direct proximity to High Hrothgar, we do actually see them around in the terrain.. Suggesting that they sell it. Alternatively, pilgrims bring it to town to cover costs. The fact that Willhelm does not immediatly own a bow, nobody mentions that he vanish to hunt (Yet knows the coming and going of most) there is no real evidence connecting him to any of this. The two arrows is our only clue to a genuine crime. Werewolves do not use bows, Not Narfi nor Willhelm seemingly owns a bow, nothing was taken from the corpse yet she was killed, seemingly within city perimeter.. But at a distance... On a route she travels often... In a region scarce on bandits or indeed any real dangers..
    The two arrows are the key...

      Everyone forgets that the "ghost" in the crypt showed up about the same time as Reyna disappeared, and he is an alchemist who would presumably need ingredients for the potion he has to continually make to keep up the charade while he loots the crypt. I think Reyna came across him while collecting herbs, and he panicked thinking his gig was up and murdered her as she made her way back to town and tossed her body into the river to hide it. Being rushed to hide a body that you'd just murdered close to town would explain why the panicking "ghost" wouldn't take the time to loot her items.

Its probably just an oversight from a development standpoint for when you give someone the necklace it has that as the only response, and he probably had a reaction that ended up being cut.

    Did she buy it? Unlikely in Ivarstead.
    Did she find it? Again, unlikely unless she somehow got it from the Barrows or the Cave.
    Did she straight up murder a Daedra and rip out its heart? I doubt she would've died to two iron arrows after murdering a Daedra.
    I know Daedra like to meddle in Tamriel but I doubt there's a significant enough dead Daedra to create a market full of Daedra Hearts available for purchase. The only other option is to find it randomly in a chest or tomb with the last possible option being harvesting organs directly from Outsiders of another plane of existence.

    I know it's late but hope this helps here my theory;
    So adding to some of your story, Narfi is a werewolf that's why he admires the moon. Reyda is gathering ingredients trying to cure Narfi however both their parents don't like the idea, hence the reason why they left Narfi and try to convice Reyda to go with them but failed. During Reyda's attempt of curing Narfi it's possible that she started a fire or something that broke the house down. Villagers started to get scared and probably warned her not to try that again. Reyda of course ignored them due to the fact he really wanted Narfi cured. Villagers started leaving and some that stayed got tired of it and decided to just kill her. As for Wilhelm well he is the inn keeper so it's possible that he knew the villagers' plan or possibly involve. Wilhelm with his guilt of not telling Narfi he decided to look after Narfi just a little bit. I'm pretty sure Wilhelm is the one providing him all that mead whereelse can Narfi get it. Now villagers started to catch on that Narfi would not be easily killed due to his werewolf cursed so they instead hire a professional that's when the brotherhood comes in.

    Honestly,this makes sense.... The theory that Narfi is a werewolf would be reasonable. Why would he have a contract on him? He could’ve become a werewolf and killed... His sister? Werewolves usually don’t remember what happened to them while in their ‘beast form’. While his sister was gathering her items on the island,he may have killed her while a werewolf. But that doesn’t explain the arrows... Though,Wilhelm could’ve tried shooting Narfi while watching him maybe kill her. Maybe Wilhelm loved Narfi’s sister,wanting to protect a love interest. The arrows might’ve just stayed afloat in the water as Narfi the werewolf ran away. Reyda could’ve been killed in the water while trying to escape the wrath of her brother,resulting in her body and two arrows being found in the water. Also,the unexplained reason of why both Wilhelm and Narfi had the same dialogue when showed Reyda’s necklace is,well,suspicious. The why they were both very distressed about it,which is not unusual for Narfi,but Wilhelm..?.. Not something you’d expect that man to say,since he seems so sane.... Also,Narfi may not be getting much sleep because of being a werewolf and that he knows his sister is dead,just doesn’t want to admit it. Five stages of grief,just stuck in the same stage. Doesn’t want to let go of his sister’s demise. But that brings me back to my theory that Wilhelm may have had an affair with Reyda.. He seemed close to the girl,knowing a lot about her. Maybe wanting to save her from her brother’s sharp claws,resulting in the arrows... Or I’m just creating a dumb theory that makes no sense.

    I can't quite piece it all together, and these suggestions about werewolves and narfi killing her is bit mad.. BUT if anyone looks deeper, you should check: any possible relation to the mysterious black sacrament found in Black Briar home in Riften (seeing as that is a sacrament no one knows who for, and also given that there is a quest about black briar mead related to Wilhelm) what if Narfi or Reyda were aware of this, and any informer could of messed up Black Briar business? They are a powerful family..
    Or check links to: Rorikstead, we all know the mystery of that place, and how it's farm is the best in Skyrim, despite it's geological place in the land, with no mountains next to the village, tundra winds should destroy it.. Narfis family was a farming family, and Ivarstead makes 100% a better location for a farm, due to the amount of nutrients around there, natural wind break from High Hrothgar, lush soil and a body water nearby.. Maybe the farmers of Rorikstead were aware of the competition, and have killed Narfis family over the years, since they were the farmers and had an alchemist in the family.. I mean, the healer of Rorikstead has ties to the daedra as we've found out...
    I have no evidence backing either of these two claims, but they could be linked without a doubt. I think this mystery is something that spreads out further than just Ivarstead, I believe if you guys search other towns or villages that might have logical ties to this (like I said, maybe Riften or Rorikstead) I think you'll edge closer..

    Personally, I always felt like Narfi was a werewolf. He speaks of the moon, he obsessed over Reyda like she was his keeper or something, and you have to wonder why he "never got to say goodbye to mother and father". Did he kill them when he was younger in his beast form? Did Reyda secret him away to live as his protector? If so, then living like an animal has consumed his mental capacity. They even lived on the opposite side of the river, away from town folk. I would like to think Narfi had the good grace to perform the black sacrament on himself, to stop him from killing again but I doubt he has the mental aptitude for such a task. Likely someone in Ivarsted did it to protect the town. Is there any reason to believe that someone could NOT perform the black sacrament on themselves? If he is a werewolf, then his mutton chops are a little too on the nose for me. lol

    Theory 1: Reyda had been caught after discovering the secret to cultivating nirnroot by the alchemists at Sarethi Farm (I like this theory because it seems like the best probable cause).
    Theory 2: The Hunter on the path to high hrothgar-he seems to get rather angry if you follow him to the inn and ask him what he is doing. He is also the only one in town with a bow.
    Theory 3: The necromancer near ivaristead- he was practicing on chickens oddly enough. He wasnt powerful enough to reanimate corpses. Reyda may have been a first attempt. There is circumstantial evidence to support this as there is a dead woodcutter between Reyda's body and the Necromancer's camp.
    Theory 4: bandits at either the dwemer ruins or the abandoned watch tower (Also somewhat in line with the murdered woodcutter and Reyda).

    Rayda is searching for a cure for his werewolf form... she has a Deadra heart and plenty of things that down your stamina ... the rueful axe downs stamina as well and was used to kill a werewolf. she brought Narfi with her one day ... to do the ritual or whatever she thinks will cure him ... Narfi already killed someone because of his form and in turn the villagers thought his dad was a wolf and burned the house down... his dad said goodbye and so did his mom because they both wanted to see him and his sister live... when Narfi and Rayda were seen many times going to the barrow the barkeep got suspicious of one of them being the wolf and then he tracked them down and tried to kill Narfi... Narfi being "sick" from when he was born was saved by Rayda... Rayda took the Arrows and when the barkeep saw that Narfi in his wolf form was so hurt and sad... he spared him ... the barkeep also feels guilt and now just wants to help Narfi... the SILVER NECLACE was made by Rayda to keep Narfi from turning into a wolf... they went to the barrow to get the blessing of the priest who protects the 3 Brothers tomb. the neclace never got blessed ... and when you give it to Narfi he thinks its okay to sleep again... (cause im not gonna tell him his only sister is gone) and when he sleeps he turns back into a wolf... and then the barkeep does the black sacrament to end Narfi's curse... but Narfi thinks his sister is still alive... so he doesnt want to die or to fight you... so he runs away...
    now im sad...

    Wwolf theory aside, Narfi and rayda are defectors of the dark brotherhood. He is obviously a dark brother and a werewolf, most likely choosing hircine over sithis, he most likely feels betrayed by mother and father(sithis) and rayda was a forbidden lover, you don't marry in the brotherhood, and it is... a brotherhood. That may have just been the brother hood covering their tracks. and has a lot to do with astrid.... she may even be covering up things she herself did to betray them.

  • @chase5963

    I have a probably crazy theory:
    If you look on the body you can find normal alchemy ingredients you could easily pick along with gold and some ingredients that are not found on the island, which makes me think that she wasn't on the island, and it may not even be her body. The body we find is never specified to be hers, and though her necklace is there, that doesn't mean someone couldn't have tried to take it. I think Wilhelm was with her that night and, instead of going to the island, went to a trader to find some better ingredients. they were on there way back when someone attacked them and tried to rob her. but the people tried to flee with reyda and the sack to leave Wilhelm, and Wilhelm tried to shoot the people holding reyda but only managed to hit the person holding her bag before he passed out from the pain. the people got away with her but one person fell into the river and died. Wilhelm just the. thought they got away with everything and told no one of what happened out of fear of something, possibly a secret being found out, or maybe just some people that could scare him enough to leave it alone. which leads me to my next theory that it was reyda who put the contract out for her brother. she found away to escape after a year and after finding out what happened to her brother, she thought he was too far from sanity. so instead of trying to help him she decided the best way was to put him down, and not being able to do it herself, she preformed the black sacrament to get the brotherhood to kill him. but that's just a theory. A GAME THEORY.

      Perhaps he planted it afterwards to try and cover the truth up. In a small town like that, anyone would know if some stranger came asking around about poor old dead Reyda. So it's not like the killer wouldn't know that someone's investigating the crime. It would also explain why the arrows are still there. It is a RIVER. Rivers flow. The arrows would've long since floated down-stream if they had been originally used to kill her. And after a while of laying underwater, wood becomes so saturated with water that it just breaks apart, and doesn't float anymore. So those two arrows cannot have been the ones used in the crime originally. Not if she really was killed one whole year ago.
      Which brings me to wonder: Was she really killed that long ago? Perhaps those two arrows really are the ones used in the original crime. Perhaps she's been killed very recently, explaining why they're still there, fully intact.
      Then it brings up the problem of her corpse. If she'd been killed recently, the corpse would surely still have some flesh on it? It's not like the river is swarming with slaughterfish, or any other kind of predator. So the only solution is that she was killed by a werewolf or something. Werewolves tend to get very messy when they kill their prey, and often eat them clean to the bone. This means that it was probably Narfi who is a werewolf, and who killed her. And when someone began investigating her murder, he planted the arrows to throw off-course. The RECENT planting of the arrows also then very conveniently solves the problem of how the arrows could possibly still be there, fully intact.

    Look at it like this; Whenever someone turns into a werewolf, they seem to loose memory of the few minutes before they turn into one, and this is supported when you first become one, as the dialogue option is "What happened" because you do not remember ye ritual. So Naefi went to go look for Reyda one night as she was taking rather long and Wilhelm was out hunting. The night was a full moon and Narfi then turned into a werewolf and killed Reyda. She screamed and Wilhelm heard her cries and ran to investigate. He saw her dead corpse being caried by a werewolf, so he shot two arrows at in and ended up injuring the werewolf. Narfi then dropped Reyda's body and ran into the woods after taking out the arrows and throwing them. Wilhelm chased the beast until he found it in a ball shivering and slowly watched it transform back into Narfi. He was going to kill him but couldn't bring himself to do it, and felt guilty for letting Narfi go through all his pain. That's why Wilhelm and Narfi share such a connection, because Wilhelm knows what Narfi is. Eventually Wilhelm hears of a boy who performed the Black Sacrament and got the brotherhood to kill someone. Wilhelm then decided that he would kill Narfi this way, so he wouldn't have to kill Narfi himself as he'd feel too guilty

    This is my theory
    Narfi is a indeed a wear wolf and couldn’t sleep at night so he would stare at the moon from the huge hole in his house. Then wilhelm went out one day to get ingredients for his inn but did not know where to get ingredients from so he simply followed Reyda out one day, he continued this for weeks until Reyda noticed him. Reyda would soon follow Wilhelm back to the his inn after Wilhem was done “gathering recourses” reyda walks in the inn to see you ‘dragonborn’ dealing wilhelm illegal blackbriar mead. Wilhelm sees ryeda but you dont you then leave. later on he would soon hire a dark brotherhood assassin to kill reyda she is soon killed and the dark brotherhood assassin makes it look like she drowned but he left 2 iron arrows behind because he was shit at his job. Now Nefi notices reyda doesn’t return home wilhelm doesn’t want any more people in his way of his illegal works so he hires you another dark brotherhood assassin to kill Nefi.
