    On Sunday, recently elected President Petro Poroshenko vowed he would end two months of fighting with rebels in eastern Ukraine by the end of the week.
    Last week, however, the Ukrainian army suffered a series of setbacks in the Luhansk region and lost control of several checkpoints along the Russian border. Separatist groups now say they have occupied up to 125 miles of the frontier, allowing for fighters, weapons and other goods to move across from the east. VICE News headed to a checkpoint in Luhansk to talk with a Cossack commander about his group's operations there and find out how he is "preparing for war."
    In the towns of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, shelling is on the rise. Some civilians in the area were able to pack their belongings and flee, yet many more local residents are unable to leave. From housewives, to students, to local farmers, all are feeling the effects of the continuing crisis.

Vice has a strange streak of "missing" dialogue here and there of quite important evens, statements and opinions. Hey maybe it is a coincidence they missed that part about Odessa.. Or maybe not. Vice has been painting a black and white picture of the conflict in Ukraine since the start but what's the point of giving all the news when people are only used to Bad guys vs. Good guys scenarios. thank you for the dispatch Vice and thank you for being out there and risking your life to get the footage.
    Wish there would be less bias and more neutral view.
    For example: at the start of the interview the guy says: they will pay for slavyansk, for kramatorsk and for odessa" but the odessa part is not mentioned in the subtitles, why? One thing is people swearing to repay for bombing them, and another thing is also swearing to repay for mass murders of innocent people in distant city. Leaving out this one word is leaving out a huge piece of the whole picture of what is happening.
    at 00:40 you report "they took 200km of the boarder, allowing for a steady stream of weapons and fighters to come across from russia" and yet you do not provide any footage of that steady stream (in the interview with the soldier there was no mention of that). It would be more correct to say "allowing the possibility of weapons and fighters to be coming from russia". The way you put it implies that there are masses of weapons and fighters flowing through the 200km open border now, which may or may not be true.
    at 3:16 "daily shelling from both sides takes it's deadly tow" in the context of death of civilians. Here the only proof of separatists bombing their own cities you can find is in ukrainian media articles. There is no factual proof of that. However there are many interviews with civilians from Slovyansk who claim ukrainian army is bombing the city. I think more correct way to say this would be "daily shelling takes it's deadly tow"
    The reporting after 6:20: You mention that "opportunists and even DPR themselves taking advantage of the chaos". And then you report on how the swine farm was burned down by unknown individuals. And it could be anyone 1) someone who had personal vendetta against the owner of the farm 2) DPR people(for political reasons? why is there no mention of what kind of political reasons?Is it because those people are against the DPR? If so why not ask woman about that and show us that they don't agree with actions of separatists. I cannot think of any other reasons DPR would burn the farm (they will need the pork from there for food for their republic in the future and it seems rather illogical for them to do it). It could also be 3) national guards - The woman said "two cars were painted in camouflage" not as you translated in subtitles "they had masks and painted faces". Reasons for them to do it I would think is to turn the public against the war because of the destructions they experience themselves and therefore against the separatists or 4) it could be anyone else, who knows? And I think mentioning DPR before this particular report makes the whole thing seem from the beginning that it is the actions of DPR. It would be better to leave the whole "opportunists and even DPR" intro out of this and just show the report.
    I understand that being a part of western media, and especially having one of your reporters captured and tortured by separatists makes you biased, but I think being professional and objective is something that is really valued in our day propaganda wars and is especially appreciated.

    I can tell you that rebels in Kramatorsk did not allow people back in the city, or at least it wasn't so easy. My family was warned many times that if they left the city, they would not be permitted back unless they were given documentation. It goes without a surprise that we were very happy when Ukrainian forces re-captured the city. Rebels acted like a gang, if you said or did anything they didn't like, you'd be threatened immediately.

      That what they try to imply when none of the person interrogated say that and it's quite evident that it's the Ukrainian encircling the city that are most probably responsible.
      Attacks on farms and villages by Ukrainian nationalists were common around Marioupol and Slaviansk.

    I have pretty much lost all of my respect I had to this channel. There is blatant misinformation in subtitles at 7:11. The woman says the attackers flew over, but that is not in the subtitles at all. That word gives much more information about the attackers and the circle of them obviously gets smaller. That is simply misinformation and propoganda. They simply ignored one of the most important words that hint at who might have done it.

    • @melaniekowalski9574
      @melaniekowalski9574 10 років тому +13

      That thing is not very clear, Flew over could also mean rushed in. So it doesn't mean the flew helicopters. One of the women even said that they flew in in five vehicles.

    • @Antoha0102
      @Antoha0102 10 років тому +8

      Melanie Kowalski No, when you say "prileteli" you usually mean that they flew directly from the air, when you say "priehali" then someone came from land. You don't use this word when you are talking about people rushing in.

    • @mpu129
      @mpu129 10 років тому +8

      you do use prileteli to say that someone is rushing, it is east Ukrainian semi-slang commonly used in Ukraine, whilst for most Russians it can mean something else but in Ukrainian speaking part ie communities in the rural areas, where most people speak Ukrainian it is common to use Ukrainian way of speaking in Russian whilst speaking Russian. Here the women clearly means drove in by "5 cars". Come on you don't fly cars, not even in Russia :)

      Actually and historically Cossacks are from Ukraine - they basically founded Ukrainan statehood in Middle Ages. But later some of them (Don's cossacks) appeared to be on the territory of Russia. Modern russian "cossacks" are mostly role-players poisoned by imperial russian "rising-from-the-knees" propaganda

      BigChiefWiggles V The video that's showing the "freedom fighters" burning down a functional farm, yeah, that makes perfect sense. They don't want autonomy, they want to have someone pay for everything while they think and act out some teenage fantasy of being leaders - without any sense of realism.

    • @BigChiefWiggles
      @BigChiefWiggles 10 років тому +1

      infiltr80r
      pro Ukrainian forces are the ones that burned the farm in order to force people from the area and at the same time remove a food source, they are trying to use the tactic of starving an area out which is a centuries old tactic used to break a siege. As far as leadership, Id say based on the actions of both sides in the conflict DNR militia leadership has shown much more competence and skill than the Kiev leadership and their generals, this goes for both on and off the battlefield. I dont know if you have studied history but most new countries that split off are formed exactly in this way, it is very rare that the their previous leadership just lets them go and they have to survive militarily long enough for either the casualties or the costs to become unacceptable to the previous leadership. It has been said that wars are fought by the generals but won by accountants. Also your teenage fantasy theory doesnt hold up to even a small engagement, anyone who goes into combat expecting it to be fun will have a very bad time after the first shots are fired and their friends show up with body parts missing and guts hanging out, anyone who stays past that first engagement and keeps fighting isnt doing so for "some teenage fantasy". In order for you to say something so ignorant you yourself must be a teenager and or teenage level on the metal development scale.

    • @infiltr80r
      @infiltr80r 10 років тому

      BigChiefWiggles V You just made that up. As I understand these 2 women were Russian and they would've proudly say if it was done by Ukrainian forces.
      I didn't even read the rest of your comment as you obviously can't make your drivel readable by using paragraphs.
      If these "freedom fighters" said they want to rather build a better Ukraine, the fighting would cease and there would be no more drama. So it's really up to them.

    • @BigChiefWiggles
      @BigChiefWiggles 10 років тому

      infiltr80r why the hell would the people stationed in the area burn down one of their own food supplies? I mean what kind of retarded logic is that? Do you even think about what you are going to say before you say it?
      They dont want a "better Ukraine", they want their own country away from the ethnic Ukrainians and their self appointed govt that overthrew the elected president earlier.
      They didnt want the war, they are in their home, the self appointed govt sent the army to THEIR regions and began using force, in other words the power to stop the war rested with the initiator of the violence.
      Now, I understand that most Americans have a problem with knowledge of history, geography and even things like simple logic, they tend to get angry when they say stupid shit and then someone points out how stupid the shit they said is.
      Dont be mad, go study up, learn about the history of Ukraine, how it was created, what regions were added when and by whom, who lives in those regions etc. Once you do that things will become much clearer but as of right now you are just an angry ignorant little man trying to cover up your ignorance with the standard personal attacks on my punctuation. There I made paragraphs just for you.

      In ukraine, there are many people who see themselves as russian, so they want the cities they live in to be russian, they achieved this goal in crimea, crimea is now a part of russia, then they wanted to go on and wanted more cities to become russian, but the ukranian millitary started to defend themself, this leads to this war, putin actually would want it that these cities become russian but the west is putting him under a lot of pressure so he probably won't do the same thing like in crimea, the rebels are the seperatists, the ukranians who feel russian, they say that all ukranians are fascists, russia is supporting them with weapons and probably also a few soldiers, the usa is supporting ukraine with millitary equipmeng, i hope you could understand this, i'm not a native english speaker so sorry if there are any language mistakes, i'm just a 20 year old german student^^

Atleast the people are evacuated before hand so they dont end up being slaughtered like in gaza 🤷‍♂

      @@owenthomas5103 are u tryna claim grozny isnt fully rebuilt? Yikes. Delusional. Get off the internet. Your too deep into propoganda. When Russia went into Ukraine it never was a gurantee that they would have to find for years in long hard battles that would devestate cities. The original plan was a coup assisted with the armed forces of Russia, a lot similiar like in afghanistan, where Russian troops stormed kabul and rushed down highways like we saw in feb 24. They were just tryna recreate this, and a guerilla campaign would probably not succeed like in afghanistan because of the terrain.
      Russia came for short victory to unite Russians, belorussians, ukrainians together. These cities are being destroyed because there are UKRAINIAN soldiers in them. Seeing how trained and equipped the ukrainian armed forces have become what makes u think if Russia didnt attack that it could grab donbass?
      The donbass bombings, although often highly exaggerated, were comitted by the armed forces of ukraine without a doubt lol. The missiles and rockets are coming from the westward direction when they hit in almost every video of donetsk. Ukraine bombs donbass for many reasons that would be useful for them. There is almost nothing to gain for the DPR and LPR to bomb their own cities.

      @@freedomwhenneeded no city's are not being destroyed because Ukraines are in them. They have had Ukraineans in them for centuries. They are being destroyed because RUSSIA chose to try and conqure Ukraine in an unprovoked attack!
      And you really think .city's have been rebuilt in a couple of years? If so that would be impressive to say hhe least.
