  • This journey that started for me aged 17 in Anna’s Russian class has now come to an end. I have been officially banned from Russia for a period of three years. What great memories were created. From the villages of the Komi republic to the mountains of Dagestan, to the Siberian forests and Baikal, we have experienced so many adventures. I'll always remember the amazing Russian people I met with great fondness but it's time to to bring the curtain down.
    Glory to the USSR!

A Word from Bald: "I've been in bed
convalescing for ten days so not been able to
discuss what happened in Russia. I will discuss it
in future because it is a belter of a story but I was
    accused of criticizing Vladimir Putin.
After a few days in the cells I was taken to an office of an
MVD officer ( ministry of internal affairs ) who
said 'Whether you get just a fine or a long prison
stretch depends on how sorry you are for what
you said and your justification for saying it.' In
that moment you have a decision to make: either
be a hero and get five years in a concrete cell or
say 'Glory to Putin!' and go home to enjoy your
life with your family and friends again.
I took the second option without hesitation which is why I'm
writing this from my comfy bed and not from a
concrete cell in Birobidzhan. I'm not Russian or
Ukrainian and won't be martyring myself for any
of their causes. The only shield I'll ever fall on will
be covered in the Union flag. (UK)
Anyway before I'm feeling better and speak again
I will say that I wasn't treated badly. In fact the
director of the prison 'Tarass' was a bloody good
bloke who brought me extra noodles to eat
( bloody rolton though and not doshirak t] ). My
only regret is I wasn't there long enough to get a
badass Russian prison tattoo. Everything else was
cool. Scary as fuck, but cool at the same time to
    get the ultimate Soviet experience.
Right now my friend @lanasator is languishing in
an Albanian prison on trumped up spying
charges. I'm working with others to get her
decent legal representation and get her home. It's
    a dangerous job at times."

I've never given this much to a UA-cam creator before, but your series is beyond excellent. Your channel, as well as NFKRZ really changed my perspective about Russia in a positive way. I began learning the language in earnest in 2020, and will continue despite recent horrific events. I've resigned myself to the obvious fact that I will never visit Russia myself, but through your videos I feel like I've been there with you throughout your journey. Being in Russian prison must've been terrible, and terrifying. This journey was well worth the $50 if you ask me. Thank you so much for bringing myself and others along for the journey of a lifetime across Russia, across borders into a place that was otherwise pretty foreign to me.
My favorite part was definitely the people we met. My mother and I particularly liked it when you met Colya, the elderly gentleman that appeared to have early stages of Parkinsonism. I don't know what it is that really endeared us to him, but my mother keeps asking me if you've gone back to see him. The other one, which is just iconic, is when you were drinking homemade wine with some babushkas at their house. And, of course, when you and NFKRZ hung out together. You've gone to so many places, but nothing will top when you got to touch an actual Soviet space shuttle recently. I wish that Russia would open up to the world and let more people visit because there's so much diversity and culture in Russia that is going unappreciated. The people of Russia deserve much better than what they are getting right now, but I won't go down that track right now.
Sorry for so many words, but thank you for at least the entertainment, but at most for introducing me to a fascinating place, culture, and people called Russia.

I'm not good at making long emotional speeches, but as a Russian living abroad I've watched this guy since 2018 when I was doing a project on Chernobyl and came across his video on the Chernobyl zone in Belarus. If I recall correctly he had less then a 100 thousand subscribers back then and he only had about 20 videos on his channel. Ever since I have enjoyed watching his videos, he was showing me what my own country looked like, not even Moscow and St Petersburg but the provincial towns where most Russian people live. I found those videos to be pretty awesome because I haven't been to my country in 13 years, nor did I ever have any intention to return anytime soon.
What Bald said about Russia shooting itself in its own foot is completely true and this is just one example, since the beginning of this war Russia has made threats against countries that were neutral or willing to compromise with Russia despite all of the atrocities Russia has committed, some Russian government officials have even called Israel a Nazi country, despite Israel having way too kind of a relationship with Russia than it should. So the fact that you got kicked out isn't so shocking. That said, although it's not shocking it's actually quite hilarious that you got kicked out, you managed to paint some of the most desolate, most polluted, and poorest parts of Russia in a positive light that even some hardcore patriots wouldn't do. It's honestly sad that Russia just keeps isolating themselves, for years every time the Russian government did something stupid I'd think it can't get worse from here but it always does, and this is no exception. It's a pity that the Russian government and the Russian people don't realize how lenient people have been towards Russia, almost everyone has turned a blind eye on the Georgian War, the Chechen War, the Donbass War, and kept saying that the Russian people and culture shouldn't be associated with the government.
Now in 2022 that leniency is clearly wearing off, and Russia doesn't care at all. It's a pity that it is my country, the country I (currently) hold a citizenship to, the country that more than half of my ancestors came from, is the one responsible for so much shit. At first I was embarrassed to be a Russian and didn't want to associate with my country, but I have come to realize that even during these hard times I must accept that I am a Russian and not feel sorry for myself for being Russian, I need to represent my country and make an effort to make a better representation of my people. I shouldn't feel sorry for myself, I should do my part in publicly condemning what my government has done, I have helped spread awareness to people and give insight about what Russia has done before and what Russia is doing now, I have helped translate for Ukrainian refugees who came to my school and I gave them company every day until they moved out. That is much more productive than me sitting on the internet ranting about how much I hate myself for being born Russian.
I suppose it sucks that this journey is over but I'm glad that it happened and that it was a long and entertaining journey and that I was there to watch it. Almost a year ago I moved to a new country to a pretty desolate small town with people who aren't so social and got seasonal depression and your videos helped me get through that. It would be cool if you could do another adventure with Simon and Harald in a different country, but if not then I guess we'll all have to move on. I understand you never intended to make UA-cam videos as a long-term thing.
I don't know what is the likelihood of you or even anyone reading this comment, but even if you never come across this comment, I would still like to thank you for everything. It's been a great journey.

That's so heart-wrenching to see our government tries its best to destroy connections between us and our neighbours ;( We, ordinary people, are longing to see more tourists, foreigners, guests from all over the world, our country has so much history, culture, nature to offer everyone, and yet people are afraid to come here, and it's for reason. Bald, I believe you will soon come back, not only you, but thousands of other tourists, guests, and our political refugees as well, since I believe there is no future for the government which aims at isolation.
