Thank you for doing this one. I actually served as a juror on the civil trial for this case. As the evidence came out, it blew our minds how it had made it to that point. I had never heard of the case before I was selected and didn't realize how high-profile it was until I saw cameras in the court hallways. In court looking at those photos and hearing the evidence, I remember feeling just kind of floored, like we and the family shouldn't be here. He should've been handled by the criminal court. Like, why was he not in jail? It's an awful feeling to get a front seat to how our class system can make a mockery of justice.
Regardless if he planned it or not, it took so long for him to confess what he even did which just shows his guilt even more. And now he’s just done his daughter a huge disservice just adding trauma to her life - defeating the purpose of why he did this anyway. His sentence should have been much longer than that.

Ellen lost her life and then her murderer lost the reason ( or so he claimed) for committing murder. I’m not completely convinced he did it because of an argument over their daughter but if he truly loved her so much , he wouldn’t have wanted to traumatize her by taking away her mom. My sympathy to Ellen’s family , especially her daughter. May she rest in peace.

For a guy who was said to be controlling, calculated and so intelligent, there was something satisfying about how, little by little, things just didn't go his way. I could totally believe this was planned, even the whole 10 years was too little, but loosing his beloved money and being sent back to prison probably upset him just as much as anything. I really hope Ellen's daughter and family is doing as well as possible, they obviously never forgot her and fought a difficult fight they never asked for.
He was likely more upset about losing his beloved daughter. And no murder would have occurred if the Mother hadn’t planned on kidnapping his daughter, legally. Something Fathers have to suffer every day.

Minor correction. At the beginning of the video, the narrator says that the professor worked at the University of Pennsylvania. At 9:15 he identifies the school as “Penn State.” These are two entirely different universities. Penn State is a state college some 3.5 hours drive from their house. University of Pennsylvania is a private university and a member of the Ivy League which is 25 minutes away. JTL might have been confused by the fact that University of Pennsylvania is often called “Penn” which he must have thought was short for “Penn State.” It isn’t.
Nothing wrong with someone who obviously knows a fact pointing it out. If a narrator had made an error in a detail about something where I knew the facts, I would point it out. Accuracy is good.

I thought the victims families were supposed to be informed when said felon is being let out? This is disgusting! These parole board members need to house the criminals they let out early with their families & children and/or grandchildren!
Once I was pregnant and wrapping Christmas gifts and I heard a knock at my front door. I opened it and no one was there, but there was a pool of blood about 5-6 inches in diameter outside the door. I woke my husband and told him and he mumbled it was probably from a dead bird. I said it looks like an actual pool of blood. He said lock the door and went back to sleep. I found out the next day that two houses down their was a pot grow op and someone had stabbed the person who cared for it and he had ran from door to door looking for help. At the first house they wouldn’t open the door. At my house he fled before I got to the door because he was still being pursued so he hid in the yard of the third house then they opened it and called an ambulance for him. I don’t know if he survived. The police never talked to me. The neighbour told me all this. I remember the contrast between wrapping girts with Christmas music playing in a warm cozy house, pregnant, and seeing a pool of blood on the front step but nothing else. He would have run past the large ground level front window of the room I was in to get to the front door but I guess I never looked up. I’m divorced now.
You could’ve had called 911 yourself without asking/waking up your husband though. I would’ve. It could’ve been someone in danger, or myself if the person who knocked on the door, was a wounded/desperate fugitive!
I had a husband just like that. He’s an ex too now. Good for you. Side note- after raising my three children and successfully launching them into the world(no dating or males in my life for 16 years), I moved and met the nicest man I’ve ever known. He was a coworker. We became best friends before ever dating and now have been married for 2+ years.
I do not believe Rafael Robb for a minute that the reason he killed his wife was because of Olivia. I believe it was because of the fact that he would lose 50 to 60% of his entire wealth. He thought he was clever and would get away with it, but the authorities were on to him almost right from the start. Now he understands that losing money in a divorce case would have been a better option than having to pay 124m dollars as well as losing Olivia for good. For an educated man he wasn't very clever, after all, was he?

20:40 - they figured that he was looking at years in jail before the trial even started due to the prosecution saying they would appeal every decision that didn’t go there way extending the trial date back potentially years. 14:14 - added with the fact that they couldn’t confiscate his Isreale passport the prosecution determined him to be a severe flight risk so he would’ve been denied bail for that entire pre-trial period. He, being as calculated as he was presented and wether he was guilty or not, surley would’ve understood what standing up for himself would’ve done to him and took the lowest risk and lowest costing route thru his case. Either way, the confession was a forced and fabricated story. If he was innocent then he just admitted to something he didn’t do, which 100% does happen. If he was guilty then he fabricated the story to match the manslaughter charge. We have a right to a speedy trial exactly for this reason, so that an innocent man doesn’t need to confess to avoid years of cruelty in the hands of a system of unjust jailers and the terrifying environment they cultivate. Additionally, you may be asking what’s the difference between 5 years in jail vs 5 years in prison and the answer is that jail is a much more horrifying environment where you aren’t even allowed outside, like in the yard, for your entire stay and while the prison gangs sound horrific enough they do provide a sense of structure that otherwise, like in jail, lead to absolute anarchy. Long story short (too late) he and by extension we, didn’t get to see his day in court due to the way the system is set up to force a confession from both innocent and guilty men alike. If the prosecution had a real case, then they would’ve pushed to get him to trial as soon as possible and he would’ve been found guilty. Instead they floundered and got a small victory of sending an apparent murderer to only 5 years in prison instead of life w/o parole, which if he had been found guilty would’ve been exactly what he deserved. I believe he is likely guilty in reality but I don’t believe he would’ve been found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

I’m thinking it was planned because up until his confession, I didn’t really think he did it. There was almost no evidence. That must take thought! The only suspicious thing to me is, why would she still be in the same room where she was wrapping presents if she heard her front door get smashed in? Most people would probably run for a back door or something before the intruder got in. He clearly smashed it afterward.
The ol’ “a random burglar in this bougie area where no one else gets burglarized broke in and killed my wife” routine. Yeah, he did it. And while some people might say “he doesn’t seem like the type” I think he’s exactly the type. He lost his shit and bashed her head in then tried to weasel his way out the same way he manipulated and fucked people over for a living. As an economist his sociopathy was probably an asset but in his marriage it was a ticking bomb.

Yes, 5-10 yrs. for murder is outrageous. I think about that, & think that if anyone with murderous intentions knows about such lenient sentences for murder, that they may weigh the consequences of serving at most a 10 yr. sentence for murdering their spouse...they might conclude it's worth it. For shame! I'm just glad the daughter decided her father wasn't worth her love. Many times the poor children of a murdered spouse will hold on tighter to the one who did the killing because they feel that's all they have left. I'm glad her family from her mother's side rallied around her & gave her the love she so needed after having to deal w/the murder of her mother.
We want to give victims the same rights as criminals! That really hit me wrong. It was stated exactly how it is. Victims are an after thought. Victims have little to no rights and criminals are afforded every consideration. The laws and penalty are so messed up anymore.
Rich people with corporate connections get extra rights. The “justice” system is like the airlines: business class for them and coach for the rest of us.

It's always fun when people 'guess' about a person when the outcome is being locked up for life. Don't ever serve on a jury we don't need people like you who want to 'guess' about stuff or become emotional and 'think' someone did it. Facts are facts, if the State can't prove it 100%...ya know ..Without a Reasonable Doubt then you acquit. Did this guy do it? Probably but a 'probably' should not be the reason you convict someone. Imagine someone 'thinks' you did a crime and they 'guess' you did things... You want that person on a jury judging you. SMH

Breaking up is hard, but for lots of couples it's for the best. It's not the end of the world and you can go on and create a calmer, happier life. Kids can still spend time with each parent. This is also a sad story of hoarding. It can make life very unhappy and unhealthy for other household members. It probably grew from Ellen's unhappiness. Not victim-blaming - he was clearly evil, sought to control his wife and had money as his top priority.
Looks like the only thing he wants to hoard is money. It might be the reason for murdering his wife. She probably told him her lawyer told her she is going to get 50-60%.
Yes, seems almost always about money... he didn't want to lose his, so instead screwed three people's lives directly, not to mention countless family members' and friends' lives as well.

Thank God her family never gave up, her brother is a very honorable person who loved his sister and wasn't going to be fobbed off by the existing law. The Justice system seems so unfair with the victims and their family's. Pardoned years for admitting manslaughter, instead of going for trial. Then after 5 years let out on parole, who sits on the parole boards? criminals, psychopaths, ,sociopaths, they feel more for the murderers than the victimr, they basically gave him freedom. Shameful society. I hope Olivia has a good life, she suffered immensely.

They have no evidence. If he had a brain he’d have gotten away with it. If he’d lawyer’d up straight away and maintained his innocence.

I found out the next day that two houses down their was a pot grow op and someone had stabbed the person who cared for it and he had ran from door to door looking for help. At the first house they wouldn’t open the door. At my house he fled before I got to the door because he was still being pursued so he hid in the yard of the third house then they opened it and called an ambulance for him. I don’t know if he survived. The police never talked to me. The neighbour told me all this.
I remember the contrast between wrapping girts with Christmas music playing in a warm cozy house, pregnant, and seeing a pool of blood on the front step but nothing else. He would have run past the large ground level front window of the room I was in to get to the front door but I guess I never looked up.
I’m divorced now.
You could’ve had called 911 yourself without asking/waking up your husband though. I would’ve. It could’ve been someone in danger, or myself if the person who knocked on the door, was a wounded/desperate fugitive!

Side note- after raising my three children and successfully launching them into the world(no dating or males in my life for 16 years), I moved and met the nicest man I’ve ever known. He was a coworker. We became best friends before ever dating and now have been married for 2+ years.

I do not believe Rafael Robb for a minute that the reason he killed his wife was because of Olivia. I believe it was because of the fact that he would lose 50 to 60% of his entire wealth. He thought he was clever and would get away with it, but the authorities were on to him almost right from the start. Now he understands that losing money in a divorce case would have been a better option than having to pay 124m dollars as well as losing Olivia for good. For an educated man he wasn't very clever, after all, was he?
Whether it was HIS money, HIS daughter, or both. If the state didn’t allow women to take those things from men, he wouldn’t have killed her, would he?

He could of gotten away with murder if he did not confess. Prosecutors had just suspision and no evidence. But GUILT got him, not the prosecutors!

20:40 - they figured that he was looking at years in jail before the trial even started due to the prosecution saying they would appeal every decision that didn’t go there way extending the trial date back potentially years. 14:14 - added with the fact that they couldn’t confiscate his Isreale passport the prosecution determined him to be a severe flight risk so he would’ve been denied bail for that entire pre-trial period.
He, being as calculated as he was presented and wether he was guilty or not, surley would’ve understood what standing up for himself would’ve done to him and took the lowest risk and lowest costing route thru his case.
Either way, the confession was a forced and fabricated story.
If he was innocent then he just admitted to something he didn’t do, which 100% does happen.
If he was guilty then he fabricated the story to match the manslaughter charge.
We have a right to a speedy trial exactly for this reason, so that an innocent man doesn’t need to confess to avoid years of cruelty in the hands of a system of unjust jailers and the terrifying environment they cultivate.
Additionally, you may be asking what’s the difference between 5 years in jail vs 5 years in prison and the answer is that jail is a much more horrifying environment where you aren’t even allowed outside, like in the yard, for your entire stay and while the prison gangs sound horrific enough they do provide a sense of structure that otherwise, like in jail, lead to absolute anarchy.
Long story short (too late)
he and by extension we, didn’t get to see his day in court due to the way the system is set up to force a confession from both innocent and guilty men alike.
If the prosecution had a real case, then they would’ve pushed to get him to trial as soon as possible and he would’ve been found guilty. Instead they floundered and got a small victory of sending an apparent murderer to only 5 years in prison instead of life w/o parole, which if he had been found guilty would’ve been exactly what he deserved.
I believe he is likely guilty in reality but I don’t believe he would’ve been found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

I’m thinking it was planned because up until his confession, I didn’t really think he did it. There was almost no evidence. That must take thought! The only suspicious thing to me is, why would she still be in the same room where she was wrapping presents if she heard her front door get smashed in? Most people would probably run for a back door or something before the intruder got in. He clearly smashed it afterward.
The ol’ “a random burglar in this bougie area where no one else gets burglarized broke in and killed my wife” routine. Yeah, he did it. And while some people might say “he doesn’t seem like the type” I think he’s exactly the type. He lost his shit and bashed her head in then tried to weasel his way out the same way he manipulated and fucked people over for a living. As an economist his sociopathy was probably an asset but in his marriage it was a ticking bomb.

Five-ten years for taking a life intentionally is outrageous to me. IMO, this was very planned out, and I wonder if Rob purchased footwear abroad in a smaller size to use as a decoy 🧐. If Ellen knew about them, he could have claimed Christmas gift for Olivia?
when I heard 5/10 years I had to check again to see if this was the US or Canada. Canada has a very lenient legal system.

Yes, 5-10 yrs. for murder is outrageous. I think about that, & think that if anyone with murderous intentions knows about such lenient sentences for murder, that they may weigh the consequences of serving at most a 10 yr. sentence for murdering their spouse...they might conclude it's worth it. For shame! I'm just glad the daughter decided her father wasn't worth her love. Many times the poor children of a murdered spouse will hold on tighter to the one who did the killing because they feel that's all they have left. I'm glad her family from her mother's side rallied around her & gave her the love she so needed after having to deal w/the murder of her mother.
Oh he definitely did it...but they definitely didn't have enough evidence to convict IMO. That family getting his parole revoked is AWESOME.

Yes, strongly leaning toward “he planned that.” My guess is that the hazmat suit came 2 to a package. Also he was smart enough to realize that his shoe size would be an issue so he likely bought smaller shoes.
It's always fun when people 'guess' about a person when the outcome is being locked up for life. Don't ever serve on a jury we don't need people like you who want to 'guess' about stuff or become emotional and 'think' someone did it. Facts are facts, if the State can't prove it 100%...ya know ..Without a Reasonable Doubt then you acquit.
Did this guy do it? Probably but a 'probably' should not be the reason you convict someone. Imagine someone 'thinks' you did a crime and they 'guess' you did things... You want that person on a jury judging you. SMH

What a horrible man, she was obviously a hoarder which would have been very stressful for him and his daughter, but surely he knew this is an illness. He’s an intelligent man, I would say that it was about his pride although he didn’t seem too concerned with the kerbside appeal!

Breaking up is hard, but for lots of couples it's for the best. It's not the end of the world and you can go on and create a calmer, happier life. Kids can still spend time with each parent.
This is also a sad story of hoarding. It can make life very unhappy and unhealthy for other household members. It probably grew from Ellen's unhappiness. Not victim-blaming - he was clearly evil, sought to control his wife and had money as his top priority.
Perhaps he was the hoarder?
Looks like the only thing he wants to hoard is money. It might be the reason for murdering his wife. She probably told him her lawyer told her she is going to get 50-60%.
Yes, seems almost always about money... he didn't want to lose his, so instead screwed three people's lives directly, not to mention countless family members' and friends' lives as well.
Breaking up is hard to do? Who the hell are you, "not victim blaming ". No matter WHEN she decided to TRY to leave would have resulted in the same end! She put her daughter first and stuck it out untill she was old enough to know her mother, learn from her strength and LOVE, because she knew her chance of getting out alive was next to impossible. No, divorce is never "normal" with certain kind of men, and untill you have been there, shut up.

The Justice system seems so unfair with the victims and their family's.
Pardoned years for admitting manslaughter, instead of going for trial. Then after 5 years let out on parole, who sits on the parole boards? criminals, psychopaths, ,sociopaths, they feel more for the murderers than the victimr, they basically gave him freedom.
