Hey guys, hope you're having great Sunday! I wanted to pin a comment to mention that we tried something a bit different with this video. As you know we like to bring you new and interesting stories when we can, however one of the problems with unknown cases is that they can be lacking in visuals. In this video we've brought in some sketches of the key players to help fill in that gap, and make things easier to follow. One thing we try to avoid at all costs is including generic b-roll that is completely unrelated to the story...from your previous comments I can see that the majority of you agree with that decision as well 🙂 I'm interested to know what you think of these sketches though. Did this style work? Is there anything else you would recommend us trying to bring these less covered cases to life? Thanks for being here guys, and enjoy the video! Kevin
Thank you soo much for NOT including generic stock footage, or re-enactments, nor for having any overly-dramatic loud music, nor for using over-the-top narration more commonly found in monster-truck rallies, that some true crime channels rely upon. Presenting the cases the way you do clearly identifies you and your channel as a class act. Keep up the great work!!
I hate how mother in laws do crap like this. My ex mother in law told me she’d “ be the first one with a shovel helping to bury my body if I hurt her son” even tho her son totally destroyed my life.
I told my friends years ago, if anything happened to me to check my mil out first. She wanted her son back and my children. It was awful. I literally cancelled my life insurance policy.
This storyline is SO common. Even the Piketon massacre (8 deaths) were driven by a lunatic grandmother thinking she had the right to keep a child from their mother. Just the way she reacted to her death showcases that she didn’t give a s***. If she didn’t murder her, she likely planned it & helped clean up the car
My ex mother in law reminded me of that. Controlling, hateful, jealous, and screwed her son by keeping him childlike. Then blacklisted me to run me outta town, followed by openly speaking of plans for my baby weekdays, nights, and weekends. So she didn't plan for our baby to ever spend time with us. treated me like some dirty surrogate for her, not family. Luckily God saw fit to strike her down suddenly just before baby came home from the hospital with me. Karma always catches up, and God knows your heart.... All His doing in His time, I suppose.
Don't believe she physically murdered Jessica, but seems like she cosigned in someway. She needed to tell the truth and didn't, therefore, this one falls in her lap. I can tell this channel truly cares about presenting high-quality content to it's audience. Always looking forward to the next one.

I was just coming to write this. What does she expect??? It's fallen on her, she refuses to tell them the truth and lies, so they arrest her. And she cries. Am I missing something? I don't feel sorry for her. You don't cover for anyone who does something that evil.
Vonda didn’t seem upset or surprised when the cop told her about Jessicas death. No tears, no reaction. If she loved Jessica how would she of been able to NOT react? She seems kinda cold and distant from the crime. Dont know if she is guilty but i sure wonder about these things. She didnt seem to b fighting for her innocence. It is completely ridiculous when ppl say “well this person is much larger than this person, so there’s no way the smaller one could’ve done it.” Women kill grown ass men-ALL THE TIME!! Yes, size CAN matter, but if you come up behind someone & hit them hard enough over the head, they fall, or stumble, & you just keep hitting-they don’t have a chance to fight back! It’s totally possible!! Plus, the rage of a grandmother in not being allowed to see their grandchild has led to more than a handful of killings (of the mother usually) in recent years alone. I’m not saying is this case that I 100% believe she did this, or did this alone. I’m just sayin’ it’s absolutely possible!! Great video as always. Never heard of (or I just don’t recall) this case. Thanks! ❤️✌️
it does matter when the victim showed defensive wounds and dna under her fingernails suggesting she atleast scratched her attacker, yet the 5’ tall lady had nary a bruise to show for it. it’s call a proponderance of evidence, meaning if you take the fact that she is smaller than the victim by itself than it has little weight, but when you put it together with other evidence that initial fact gains weight. I think her son and a friend unidentified did it without the old lady knowing it was going to happen. I think she figured it out when they returned the car to her all bloodied up and asked for help cleaning/covering it up. I think she was willing to take her chances at court because she knew she didn’t do it and would likely pull off a not guilty verdict which would clear the son for the most part, not to mentionshe wouldn’t have to betray her son. Not just a grandma, but a whole paternal family used to force a mom and her mom to take care of the kid throughout the week and drop and pick him at the dad's side of the family for sundays along with his food. While there, they didn't make sure he was fed or his diaper was changed. Many paternals also verbally and physically assault the kids. Dont take care of their safety or teach them good morals. I've also heard of an older cousin gulping the baby's formula that her mom left for her before leaving for work.
Wow everyone in the investigation were basically like, “Close enough”. I personally can’t see “I saw less and less of my grandson” to be enough of a motive. I can see her being involved with her son, maybe an agreement to get custody because she lied about the part of being behind on bills.. So sad that Jessica’s life was taken like that regardless of why..
Unless Jessica told her she was behind to get the money for the people who killed her? The “close enough” crap scares me and I can’t believe that we’re the only one. Most of the commenters seem so sure based on basically nothing. It’s like they watched a different video. Whatever happened, Jessica died terribly. It is very sad.
If the grandmother didn't do it, she covered up for someone that she knows did it because she cleaned the seat trying to get blood off it and the blood only could have got there that day. So she's left the evidence clearly pointing to her and lying about events
I love your videos especially your voice is soo unique and soothing and your vocabulary is extremely good! Thank you for being great true crime channel!
Your presentation and narration is excellent, Kevin, as always. I particularly like the sketches as well. At this stage, I can't think of anything else you could do to make any improvements, for I see your channel as the epitome of perfection. Stay safe and well, and never change. Many thanks.
@@JustThoughtLounge Yeah you got the million dollar voice. Very interesting video? When stories like these go down they need to be brought to the public. Very well put video.
That absolutely does not matter anymore,I see case after case after case that they just want the conviction, just look no further then all these cases being overturned these days, our justice system is absolutely a disgrace,if they can they will put it on the first person who doesn't act exactly as THEY think they should or the person who happens to find the body,it's just a business they don't care about the PEOPLE whatsoever
@@joanodom2104 and also provided things to carry it out. She could have given that 1000 dollars knowing it was gonna be taken from her to look like a robbery.
The way you set this up with the players and victim was genius. Makes us eager to follow to the end. Great work. Great channel. Ok. I'm at 14:29 and I'm telling you Vonda didn't commit the murder. It's obvious she couldn't physically kill that young girl. I'm very skeptical of her mother and JD. Idk why but their involvement with narcotics plays a role I bet. Great work JTL!
Thank you very much! There’s a lot going on…I honestly kept flipping back and forth between the blood in the car and the unknown DNA. Vonda seems to be involved given the state of her car, but who is she covering for if the DNA didn’t match any of the known people in the story? And why didn’t they do a paternity test!
@@maryevelyn3059but the police stated Jessica herself fought for her life having a broken finger and all that DNA under her fingernail. So she fought her killer(s) and Wanda had zero marks on her so that is what @spitfire was commenting about. Whoever killed her should have had marks on them. I do believe a person with a crowbar could clearly break someone's finger and it may not have happened by defense but the dna under the fingernails, the police need to find who it belongs to! I believe it's the son.
Great job, Kevin. I’d have to vote not guilty. This isn’t even close to a slam dunk, and I couldn’t send someone to jail for life. Way too much reasonable doubt here. I’d bet a lot of money that if this were a bench trial, she would’ve been found not guilty. I do believe, however, she knows way more then. She’s letting on.
With the evidence of the unknown male semen and the fact that Vonda had not even a scratch on her I would wage that it was probably her son that she tried to cover for, not realising that she would be convicted. I think she was naive to what the trial would involve and thought she could just say 'I saw Jessica's fiance get into a white van and then she was found dead' and everyone would believe her, Gary would take the wrap and her son would be fine. It's surprising the amount of people who don't understand modern day technology and how many resources the police have. I really feel she just thought it would be her word against his. Then when she realised she was going to jail, that's when she finally incriminated her son and said it was him getting into the van, but it was too late. It's the only explanation that makes sense. She may have wanted Jessica out of the picture but I don't see her having the physical ability to kill her and it also sounds as if Jessica was sexually assult by a man with the semen found. I don't think she should have gotten life but whatever happened she definitely helped cover it up and knows more than she's claiming. I think she should still be in prison for that. But I feel as though the actual murderer is still free.
Jessie and her unborn child - not much said about the 16-weeks' old here, also a murder victim. An unplanned pregnancy is a very good motive for some people.
3:40 I really like the image of her mother that you use here. The filter makes it look like charcoal sketching, and it's very appropriate and somber and artistic. I love this channel.
Holy cripe, there were so many people involved in this one; glad you had the sketches of the players to help keep it all clear, although I usually take my own notes while watching your videos as well. And the phrasing at about 3:48, "Tammy and Jessica's fiance", till that was cleared up on-screen, I thought how hillbilly are we getting with these people? Sounded like mom and daughter both were engaged to the same person, LOL... although I shouldn't be LOL-ing when this poor young woman was viciously murdered and lost her baby and was taken away from her other two children. RIP to the victims. Anyhow, either Vonda had the worst luck possible and lent Jessica her car that particular day or she was in fact behind what happened; and I'm thinking it's the latter. Don't mess with grandmas not being able to see their grandbabies or them having less and less time with them. Her statement right after finding out Jess was dead was, "I did not see her", when she in fact had. Why lie about something like that, unless one has something to hide? Don't think she actually committed the murder though, so I was surprised to hear she was charged with and convicted of first-degree murder. If her own son was in fact the perp -- which I'm not exactly sure of who it is/was -- that would be awfully low to let your own mom serve out the sentence that you should be having. But if Vonda does know who did it, her silence isn't helping her one iota. So thanks for another upload and thought-provoking video, Kevin. Hope you and your co-creator are enjoying the weekend!
@@JustThoughtLounge And forgot to congratulate you on 130k... your channel is the only thing growing faster than my female mustache 😋😋!! Have a good one, Kevin.
It’s always so sad to me to hear that young women get mixed up with different baby daddies! It never seems to go well. Only 21 and expecting her 3rd child. She was a beautiful young lady. And it appears they were living in almost poverty. Just heartbreaking!! 💔💔💔. I’m not sure Vonda was physically capable of moving Jessica’s body. But I wonder if her son killed Jessica due to jealousy?
It's good to see some content on the lesser known cases. Being from Tennessee not far from where this happened. I have never heard of it. Thanks for covering it
This case shows us the meaning of marriage and child support agreements. One needs protective boundaries and it should be the right people to pay for the current family's expenses. And if you decide to have children on your own, you become the breadwinner.
15:15: well, the cam footage proves that she gave Jessica money that day…cause Vonda was the one who paid for all those groceries. And, unless I heard wrong, I didn’t pick up on where it was stated that she gave Jessica $1k that day…but that, over the years, she gave thousands of dollars in total because she consistently helped Jessica out with bills, groceries, and whatever else was needed.
Another mother who thinks it’s ok to cover for her murdering son…what sort of guy is he to let his mother take the blame…if she was worried about not seeing her grandkids before…she’s certainly not going to see much of them now…RIP Jessie ❤
I'd never heard about this case. thank you! my mom lives in green county and I'm in Jonesborough, TN close by. I don't watch the news much.. crazy . I enjoy your channel!
Since the beginning when I started following your channel and you had under 10k subs I have greatly appreciated the absence of B-roll. I can't speak highly enough for your work Kevin... it's 100% the cream of the crop! UA-cam is completely swamped with mediocre true crime creators and honestly when I come across new ones I seldom give them a chance anymore these days. Not fair of course but I have 3 or 4 channels that completely fulfill my true crime needs and JTL is number one. Keep it up Kevin my friend! I've turned many people on to your channel and it's extremely rare for me to ever do that!
I think she got so hurt at been pushed aside after all the help she had given that lass, she mentioned it to her son and it was him who did it and she saw him but never said till it was too late...Both deserve life in prison‼️
Re: the blood stains - they obviously got there when the killer sat in the car, possibly even hours after the body was found. Did someone give the killer a lift in Vonda's car, in the dead of night? Did the killer sit in the unsecured car, in the passenger side, searching for something? Not to cast aspersions but could this involve drugs, the thousand dollars, assault, and JD and his friend? 🤔
I have absolutely binged the life out of your channel in the kast 6 days i think ive watched wvery episode of every season lol. Incredible craft from Kevin
If she LOVES her so much why she didn’t tell them who killed her? One thing about overbearing mothers is THEY KNOW EVERYTHING!!! I feel so sorry for her babies 💔💔
I loathe cases where they leave DNA unknown, such as under Jessica's fingernails. I am very familiar with the area around Greenville and specifically the community of Afton. There are many rough characters in the drug trade and otherwise. I don't know any of these characters personally, just from what I was told and what I observed when I would visit my mother's dear friend who is now 90. We women need to understand that the more men we become intimate with, the more we open up our lives, and the lives of our children, to the possibility of bad characters entering. Not to mention the many, various relatives of THOSE individuals. Additionally, women can go to their local health department and obtain birth control (I suggest those who have multiple sex partners be implanted with Norplant so that they won't have to remember to take pills each day) and if they are low income - or NO income, they can get it free. I further urge all females to make certain that they have their own vocation or career, so that they will not have to depend on a man, or your (or THEIR) relatives for the money necessary to live AND especially, to take care of your children. Now, I am not sure just who it was that this Vonda got to execute this young woman, Jessica, but it is clear that she is covering for somebody! When she was initially told of Jessica's death, she exhibited absolutely no sadness and she immediately went to being defensive. Then she began denigrating Jessica! I'm not too impressed with the investigation, but Vonda is right where she needs to be. The less people (men!) you bring into your life, the fewer problems you will have to endure. RIP Jessica.
THANK YOU & AMEN talking about Birth Control. I don't give a rat's a** who someone sleeps with, butfor god's sake protect yourself and STOP having children you can't take care of-
Another case of lazy backwoods cops I guess they are ok with not really solve the case as long as they got somebody well I hope you sleep good at night sheriff
Thank you for this story,I had never heard about it before, I really wonder who really killed Jessica. I hope that you keep in touch with this case and let us know if you ever find anything else. I really enjoy the calm way you tell us your story, until next time, thank you❤️
There should be no way that they could have convicted her on that evidence. If anything, they should have gotten her with conspiracy after the fact and tampering with evidence. They should have held off until they found out who all of the DNA belong to.
No, not hand drawn for these ones. We played with the idea of getting someone to draw them for us but it didn’t work out and we ended up finding a program that did a pretty good job so went with that.
Keeping real visuals is important Kevin , and I think that’s great ideal , i Never noticed any lack of visuals , and with lots of players in the story ,this helped me to re member who is who without having to go back to check , great and smart move! 😅
Yeah, there is no way that Vonda acted alone. Jessica could have easily defended herself against her. I’m guessing she’s covering for her son. She may have wanted her son to do it so that she could have more time with the boys. So tragic! 😢

I so appreciate that you are factual without drama or reenactments.
Terrific job, Kevin!! Love your work!!
That's the part I don't get.. anyone could a cleaned it .. she still could have cleaned çat pee prior also lol technically
If she covered up for someone then she’s guilty.
Yes. Guilty, but not of first degree murder. Which means the real murderer isn't paying for their crime.
@@libertywatcher1247 no, but he's sitting in a federal pen

Cop says, "Jesse's dead." She doesn't ask where, why, how, and when, and not to forget WHAT!!!!!!
I'm always looking at my phone when JTL posts. Cool 😂
Thank YOU ❤
😀👍🏻
Your presentation and narration is excellent, Kevin, as always. I particularly like the sketches as well.
At this stage, I can't think of anything else you could do to make any improvements, for I see your channel as the epitome of perfection. Stay safe and well, and never change. Many thanks.
Did they even run the unknown male DNA through CODIS? If so, it is time for you know what...Familial DNA.
Exactly, well said!
Genealogy is the key to finding the culprit! I’m sure someone knows more then what’s being told.
Sounds like the mother knew her son may have been involved and her son let her take that charge on his behalf.
Yep
Another excellent presentation. Thank you!
Hey Kev 👋🏼! I ❤your channel! You are a great storyteller, you set everything up perfectly, and your voice is so soothing!! ❤
Thank you very much!
@@JustThoughtLounge Yeah you got the million dollar voice. Very interesting video? When stories like these go down they need to be brought to the public. Very well put video.
Hey, Kev!!
I totally clicked IMMEDIATELY!!❤
Thanks Kelly! Enjoy the video 🙂
Vonda is guilty of something less than murder. There are oceans of reasonable doubt on that. At the maximum, she covered something up.
Or ordered the hit!
If you know about a murder, but do not report it to the police, you are guilty as an accessory to the crime.
@@joanodom2104 and also provided things to carry it out. She could have given that 1000 dollars knowing it was gonna be taken from her to look like a robbery.
I bet she set the victim up and had her son do the dirty work. This monster is exactly where she needs to be.
Great timing! Im taking a break from yard work. Can't wait to relax and watch JTL.
I love your new homepage. It is so unique and commercial.
I’ve always said that. I love how JTL turns to the furniture. So clever.
This channel is something else. It does make you 🤔. I love it!
These cases make me rethink the benefits of a bench trial.
@@DrJ-hx7wvya exactly like she had zero defense wounds on her! And I do believe that she knows something but to what extent? Not sure
They whack her on the head and she's unconscious there would be no defensive wounds? 😢
Hey Kevin love the way you broadcast..you don't beat around, you get right to the point of the crime..keep up the great work.❤
Great job, Kevin.
Agree - absolutely not enough evidence and way too many open-ended questions.
Yep, we'll stated. I agree.
Absolutely agree. Too much reasonable doubt.
@@cali8039 your spot on. Isn't it mad that some folks think it's the best idea to commit murder rather than try work something out. Crazy.
Great episode Kevin!Thanks for posting!
Love your content, thank you 😊
Thanks for being here 👍
Jessie and her unborn child - not much said about the 16-weeks' old here, also a murder victim. An unplanned pregnancy is a very good motive for some people.
Hey JTL!!! Always a must-watch!!!! 💜
Thank you for an exceptional channel. Love your presentation.
I'm new to the channel, just subscribed today and I just have to say, I'm not disappointed. Very well put together. Cheers from Florida
Welcome to the channel 👍🏻
I had the same thought about the fiancé line too when listening back…kind of blurred together but thought it was still clear 🙂
Thank you for your channel. I enjoy your well researched stories told in a calm, professional way.
I enjoy your videos Kevin. 👍 keep up the great work.
It's good to see some content on the lesser known cases. Being from Tennessee not far from where this happened. I have never heard of it. Thanks for covering it
Great content and delivery. Excellent sketch artist.
you are a very good host. i appreciate the mild mannered commentary
This case shows us the meaning of marriage and child support agreements. One needs protective boundaries and it should be the right people to pay for the current family's expenses. And if you decide to have children on your own, you become the breadwinner.
Mate u talking bout utopia..
@@tenanikifya383Then can v afford to have dystopia like what's happened in this case and thousands of others ?
Love it, don't change anything about this and you will continue to have fans for a long time! I spread the word good job!
15:15: well, the cam footage proves that she gave Jessica money that day…cause Vonda was the one who paid for all those groceries. And, unless I heard wrong, I didn’t pick up on where it was stated that she gave Jessica $1k that day…but that, over the years, she gave thousands of dollars in total because she consistently helped Jessica out with bills, groceries, and whatever else was needed.
exactly her answer was thousands...I think she meant over the years
This case is a tricky one...
I like the police sketches of the pertinent people. Helps following along

I'd never heard about this case. thank you! my mom lives in green county and I'm in Jonesborough, TN close by. I don't watch the news much.. crazy . I enjoy your channel!
love Your Stories 😀
I really liked the sketches. Gave a different and interesting vibe to the video. Are they your work?
I adore JTL. I’ve got to start commenting although I do always give a like. 👍🏼
Snap, I’ve commented this evening, but others comments 😅
@SarahLBanks me too lol
When the mother of the son's lover and her grandchild entered the picture I almost gave up watching. So many characters in this case.
I think the sketches and their names appearing along w/them helped to keep the characters straight.
Right on time for my Sunday !! ❤JTL❤️
Love your work, Kevin. Straight to the point, unbiased and professional. Very, very refreshing! ❤
I live about 35mins from this town pretty small it's close to home frfr scary
What a beautiful girl. That's close to where I live, but this is the first time I have heard of it. What a shame. Prayers for the family
If she LOVES her so much why she didn’t tell them who killed her? One thing about overbearing mothers is THEY KNOW EVERYTHING!!! I feel so sorry for her babies 💔💔
Those kids are not going to turn out well given how dysfunctional the families are.
Your voice is so calming 🙏🏼
Her first words "I did not see her" instead of omg no gave her away from the get go.
Yep.
This was so confusing. Way too many people involved.
Then she began
denigrating Jessica! I'm not too impressed with the investigation, but Vonda is right where she needs to be.
The less people (men!) you bring into your life, the fewer problems you will have to endure. RIP Jessica.
Well, if someone's DNA isn't in the system, how are they supposed to go about gathering it?
THANK YOU & AMEN talking about Birth Control. I don't give a rat's a** who someone sleeps with, butfor god's sake protect yourself and STOP having children you can't take care of-
totally agree, very valid mature thought out points
Agree 100%
I love the sketched artwork! Is that hand drawn or a filter?
No, not hand drawn for these ones. We played with the idea of getting someone to draw them for us but it didn’t work out and we ended up finding a program that did a pretty good job so went with that.
The drawings/images are good,thanks
Keeping real visuals is important Kevin , and I think that’s great ideal , i Never noticed any lack of visuals , and with lots of players in the story ,this helped me to re member who is who without having to go back to check , great and smart move! 😅

Yeah, there is no way that Vonda acted alone. Jessica could have easily defended herself against her. I’m guessing she’s covering for her son. She may have wanted her son to do it so that she could have more time with the boys. So tragic! 😢
