I had read of this mission before but it was nice to see a video of it. She kept her cool in a bad situation and saved her aircraft and possibly herself. Another great video !
Thanks for the feedback! Yes, the performed extremely well under hard conditions. Especially after you consider that two pilots in Desert Storm failed in their attempts.
Great video but wish you kept your regular intro, "Hello everyone, this is Showtime 1-1-2." It has a therapeutic ring to it. Did A-10's fly with sidewinders in Iraqi Freedom? I'm presuming they did but question the value.
Thank you for the suggestion. I might reintroduce the intro in the future. I couldn't find specific details about AIM-9s but there are several photos of A-10s in OIF which show them carry two pieces under right wing. I suppose they could have carried them still at this point since nobody was sure if Iraqi Air Force could launch some desperate attack with their remaining fighters.
As a USAF vet KC makes me very proud. And, not that many aircraft can shrug off a direct hit by a SAM and fly home. Took both good design and superior airmanship. Great episode! Thanks
Hey, appreciate the honest review of the HOTAS. Folks usually say "honest review" and don't offer any actual criticisms of the product. You did a great job of being literally fair about the product-... and the fact the provider was OK with that, makes me MORE likely to add their HOTAS setup, not less.
Thanks for the feedback! This is what I was going for, if you mention the minuses it makes the people likely to believe you are not hiding anything. They did approve of this review but we will see if they sent me other stuff in the future 😁
Great video, buddy! I also fly using Thrustmaster joystick, albeit a much older model - I have it for almost 20 yrs! Had to upgrade/mod it few times, but it still serves me well.😁 🙋🏼♂️🍻🍻
Its as much a testament to the rugged design of the A10 as it is to her skill as an aviator that she put that aircraft down. Everything about it is built for pilot survivability, and i think an aircraft like the A10 should be upgraded rather than retired. Its still a very capable and handy aircraft to have and it makes me wonder why more air forces aorund the world dont field it as a CAS/GA aircraft.
Thank you very much for your feedback! As for donation, you can click the PayPal link in the video description and donate that way. Alternatively, there's the UA-cam Superthanks but they take a much bigger percentage :)
Yeah but our KC was no Killer Chick, she was woefully naive and not that effective at all. Fortunately for us Canadians, her term in office was rather short.
She did a great job bringing that damaged bird in, I'm wondering if the Air Force didn't increase the number of chafe dispensers on it's ground attack aircraft after that war. MANPAD's have taken a heavy toll on both Ukrainian and Bolshevik aircraft flying on the Eastern front in Ukraine.
A-10 went through many modifications after OIF, including the upgrade to C standard and plenty of countermeasures for the Hogs. You are right, MANPADS are pretty nasty. And I don't like them, like any proper lover of military aircraft :)
As always top quality video! In general women fighter pilots in USAF and NAVY is an interesting topic, but women fighter pilots flying A-10’s is a brilliant idea for the video. A-10 is my favorite airframe in DCS and in general. I still can’t believe that such a highly specialized aircraft so many times were on the brink of retirement from its service. Just two days ago I’ve seen remarkable documentary about this topic on DroneScapes channel (I really hope it’s ok to talk about other channel here in comments) and there was a lot of new information for me. I’m sure all the aviation enthusiasts and especially Warthog fans would find something interesting in the video. And thank you very much @Showtime112 for another great story about the aviation.
Thank you for another elaborate comment, it shows you care about the content. And it is perfectly alright to mention other channels. I try not to see them as competition but rather, as a collective which can draw people to subjects that we all love.
I didn't know that A-10 had a back up manual mode in case of hydralics failure. The story of KC is also interesting... She insisted on her dream and finally made it to the air force academy. Then she flew in real operations, got hit by SAM (probably a missile with small warhead more likely SA-7/9/13/16 which iraqi army operated many of them) then switched on manual mode and finally landed safely having done something which probably she was never trained to do... Remarkable courage for a female pilot! I'm sure there are other interesting soviet female pilot stories from eastern front which should be presented. As always a top quality DCS video for military aviation enthousiasts! Keep up the good work!
A-10 was all about survivability. As for KC, she definitely proves that you shouldn't quit as soon as you run into an obstacle. Thank you for the feedback and for appreciating the content!
Yes they flew with sidewinders no doubt. Kim is an amazing fighter pilot (was) sure she still could be though they have come with A-10C which is the upgraded version they have since come out with since she retired. She said she has never got to fly “The Fancy Version”.
Mining companies in Western Australia are reported to prefer having their trucks driven by women, because they handle them better. Nice truck driving here!
I remember seeing this aircraft on a trailer ready to be shipped back to the US. A flying wreck. The squadron think in was a French built Roland missile. Lack of hydraulics made this a muscle job, she was not a large person. This pilot was a real pilot bringing that flying wreck home. As I understand it, she went back to the US (with her husband who was also a A-10 pilot) to discuss this. The Air Force academy was embroiled in turmoil due to harassment and they decided she was assigned to teach at the academy and not go back to squadron service. She fought this and was reassigned back to her squadron. Could be BS, but it is what I heard from Air Force RumorCon.
Thanks for sharing. It could have been a Roland, KC said in her interviews that no official investigation was done to assess it precisely. Concerning how two guys in Desert Storm failed to land in manual reversion, her landing is an accomplishment. She flew more combat missions in Iraq but I'm not sure exactly what happened between the end of the Iraq War and her next combat tour in Afghanistan.
The same thing happened to a former Hog pilot by the name of Bobby Efferson during Desert Storm and he actually flew that crippled heap all the way back home
The usual high quality video. Her call sign of 'Killer Chick' though - that is so cringe! She was obviously a capable pilot. But not exactly a demon of the skies. In that war the US was, as always since Vietnam, facing a comparatively weak opponent.
Thank you for the comment! She explains that the callsign was given because during her air-to-air training, she achieved some simulated victories against instructors. It certainly beats 'Bags' 😁😁
Opponents were weak as kittens. Iraq in '03 had faced over 10 years of sanctions imposed by the Uncle Sam. They weren't in much condition to effectively defend against "the coalition of the willing".
The USAF hasn’t faced a real Air Force in over 50 years. The North Vietnamese Air Force was small, but well trained and equipped by the Soviets. They had more ace pilots than the US did, mostly because if you were a VPAF pilot, you didn’t have a one year tour. You flew until the war ended, or you died. Their kill ratio against the US was far greater than that of the Soviets/Chinese/NoKo forces from the Korean War. A far more worthy opponent than the incompetent and unwilling Iraqis….
it is not about being a woman. it is about keeping cool in a crisis situation. has nothing to do with gender. in other words, a male pilot would have had to figure out the very same protocol.

Probably for the earliest missions, but quickly left behind once the Iraqi Air Force ceased to exist in the face of Coalition dominance.

I'm happy to hear that you loved this one as well! Yes, the airplane was designed to be tough and tough it certainly was.

The Air Force and keyboard warriors would try and say that the 35 is so much better 🙄🙄
@@MattKearneyFan1 it cant carry as much as the A10 though, in fact, probably only the SU25 can carry as much as the A10
I’d be cautious about survivability against serious peer-enemy air defences. Certainly ain’t working out very well for the Russkies lately.
@@jlp2011 fortunately, the A10 wont have to worry about facing patriot batteries, and only the s400 upwards are a serious threat.
Thanks!

Gracias por el vídeo. Sabía de la durabilidad del A-10 pero no conocía esta historia. Gracias de nuevo
Thank you very much! Yes, in this case the A-10 acted like it was supposed to after receiving heavy damage.

You have to admire her courage and tenacity to get into the airforce and to compete training, then doing what she did in combat

A-10A, not much different than in Desert Storm. Other than the paint job, of course :)
