I thought you said driving around your property with ATV's will spook out the big bucks in past videos?
Yes...for sure, when hunting.
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 but you are out filing water holes towards the end of October? Won't that mess with your big bucks?
Hoping to get my first deer with a bow this season
I hope you do too!
I hope you do.
Me too
I hope that you do as well. I am also looking to get my first deer 🦌 with a bow 🏹 this fall or winter.
Me too!!!
I appreciate what you do Jeff, I was allowed to hunt this 2.5 acre parcel for the last 4 years, 1st year I blew it up. I've been listening to what you say and try to follow it. Man, what a difference, more activity, more deer, more quality deer. I can't thank you enough and if I ever hit the lottery, I'll be another one of your customers.
Thanks to your tips and tricks I got to shoot my first bow buck last night
That's awesome...congrats!!! Really happy for you😊👍
Congratulations!!!! I hope to get my 1st Buck with my bow this season too! GLAD FOR YOU !
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 I’m gonna start filming my hunts this winter we have land in Mississippi
I've been hunting more mornings after watching your videos. Couldn't agree more during this time of year. I hunt public land close to bedding and mornings rule! Thanks for the great advice!! 👍
That's awesome Jim...good luck!!
I will say mornings have stunk around here until the full moon now we're getting a lot more late morning activity I don't put a lot of stock in the moon most of the time more the position of the Moon rather than the phase it's in.
I've had great luck when the moon was directly overhead in the middle of the day and directly underfoot what's about to kick in though and all bets are going to be off now I just look for the right wind for specific stands and cooler temps.
The next 2 weeks are going to be 🔥
Love the frosty mornings in early November. Tending grunts, leaves crashing. (Not from squirrels) LOL good luck Jeff, give venti a hello for me.
So awesome James! Low 30s this morning..
I will try 😊 Although going after bigger and older in WI this morning...

@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 what if it's cold, yet raining pre rut/rut time will the deer still be moving or bedded because of the rain??
@@michaeledwards7668 deer move a lot during the rain according to studies. Watch some videos on common whitetail myths.
@Whitetail Habitat Solutions, can you point me in the directions of those studies and literature regarding the ultrasounds and 30 years of data?
Amazing how much time, effort, and money people put into " getting a buck". I just enjoy filling the freezer and feeding my family.
for some its one in the same
@@JasonMossChannel it's always enjoyable to fill the freezer with bucks as well, but never would I harvest an animal just for ego or notoriety. But whatever works for you and your fam. Good luck and be safe.
If it's a doe with no spots it's down but when it comes to bucks only shoot cull or certain size bucks
Filling the freezer is great but everyone wants to kill a big buck that I have ever hunted with!
Here in WA its bucks only hunting
I have also been saving stands for that cold morning pre rut sit per your advice and I just shot my biggest 8 point in Michigan October 23rd. Thanks Jeff! Thanks for all the tips.
Missed a 9 pointer Friday afternoon, I was heartbroken, luckily he wasn't too sure what happened and walked off un spooked. Glad I missed rather than injuring him, hoping yo get another shot at him

I feel your pain. Same thing happened to me Friday on some public land. Persevere and we'll get one!
I know the feeling. Keep in the fight. I blew a shot at a big six point and thought my day was done, sat up against a log all dejected and had a huge 10 point sneak in behind me. Doe caught me turning and blew and I screwed the pooch on him too! Promptly never forgave myself.

Hey now. Next time have Dillion carrie jugs of water... I don't care if it takes him 10 hours... No ATVs on the property
I hunt a 40acre private in Connecticut and just yesterday October 24. Pre rut is in high effect. I had 6 small bucks 80 yards and then the dominant 10 point came out and they fled the area. Its go time
Dont forget small game is open as well here in michigan
I have learned so much from this guy. I live in Michigan and I have struggled with my food plots in the past. I took Jeff's advice on planting buckwheat and no plow my plots in after with great success. He is a wealth of information. Thank you so much!!
I told all the deer that comes on my property needs to wear a mask! Not playing with these guys anymore.
A lot of company’s make you take your vacation At least 2 months in advance. It’s not that easy to just pick days, and you always have the weekends off with a normal schedule job but in pa we only get Saturday to hunt, I did schedule my two weeks with the time period of the rut from last year, took your advice about the same time every year in your area. But I have from the 23rd to the 7th off. Will I hunt every day? No, but I’ll be picking good weather days in between, and even the days I’m not hunting it will be better than being at work lol but I’ve seen some amazing pre rut activity all through October, yesterday evening the 23rd was a amazing evening. I Grunted a buck in and he was grunting back. And I have to say the extinguisher grunt call is a great call. Being able to switch to a doe grunt and buck grunt really efficiently is awesome and the call just sounds great.
Jeff,
I can't tell you how much I have appreciated the content over the past few years! I have been watching your videos and implementing your tactics seriously for 3 seasons. My property, (27 acres of deer heaven - now) my quality of hunt, and the quality of harvests just keep getting better. Last season, My neighbors were telling me "the rut hasn't hit yet" in December. Thanks again!
Do some of the older does try to be in the area of the mature bucks to be bred? Nice information as usual! Thanks!
Thank you!
No, I find mature does have very small home ranges...about a fraction of what a mature buck has. They are home bodies....
Last year got the ok to manage my families 60 acres. I run 5 cameras, two feeders and about an acre food plot of rye, turnip, peas, wheat….. they love it. Unfortunately I only have mature bucks using land as a highway right now but I believe once rut starts here they will be there. Your videos are awesome thank you
They will bed there if you have/man bedding. I have 40acres and have mature bucks bed and feed here! 👍
Jeff if the moon has no effect, why is it on the hunt wise app? No disrespect I ask to know if it effects the percentages given for any given day.
It's thrown in there for feeding determinations of Kate morning if a full moon. That's it...
We of course won't give the values of the algorithm 😊
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 thanks for the reply Jeff, I'm anxious to sit over my new waterhole and "youtube whitetail habitat solutions" designed kill plot it worked last year on a mature buck, I only have 6 acres and my neighbor hunts almost daily on 40 acres(same spot) so I'll need some luck, Happy Hunting!!!
We are in pre rut right now in MD weather is turning for the better finally
People have been seeing some chasing and rutting behavior for over a week in southeast Michigan.
Good information but its too much and seems too complicated. Let's just enjoy the hunt by getting out into the great outdoors starting on October 27th onward.
Some just want to get out in the woods...some want to go hunt, do their best and experience consistent success 😊 This channel is more for those that want to be successful 👍
In central NY I've had scrapes for over a week now
Yes, for sure...right in the middle of pre rut timing 😊
I hunt public lands only now. In Mid Wisconsin. THe rut is going strong the opening weekend of gun season. Almost always have my buck an hour into the season. I am hunting rutting areas only. (48 years hunting) There are tricks to finding areas bucks use to travel during rutting seasons. They travel the shortest distances between beddiong grounds (IMO), so I position my stand (s) only in these areas. Public hunting lands are so much more satisfying as I also have to find a spot where other hunters will not hinder my hunt. I LOVE this challenge as much as geting my deer. Not like many who hunt privarte lands and are shooting their pets at the bait stations. I now also do ALL my scouting a full year in advance as I no longer live in that state, but still hunt there.
I’ve been watching your videos for the past year now and I believe that I’ve grown so much as a hunter thanks to you Jeff! I just killed my biggest MI buck this week, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity without the knowledge gained from you!
Real eye opener for rut activity from North to South . I always believed that spring being later in the North that the rut would be later ??? so the fawns aren't born to early before green up ??? I guess I was wrong???
The grapevine mock scrape. Unquestionably the most effective tool I've ever used for whitetail bucks.
That's awesome Philip...so dang enjoyable!
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 did you head over to Instagram and watch last year's kill from my trail cam? As of now it's my only post over there. I should be on your list of followers (easy to find )
Have watched your videos closely the last few years. Have seen way more bucks and managed to down a few. Amazing , skill set you have. Thank you!
Listened to the latest video on the drive to the woods...now watching the latest video from a tree. Going to be a great Texas bow hunt🙂
Can you make a video about after you miss a target buck or doe, what's the thoughts on how that deer might react after they get spooked
In northern Michigan and just started seeing bucks on my cam right in frront of blind again. Was at midnight though. Lol. Still not seeing much moving around in my area. Been very warm
Didn't see much on the public land I went to up north tho found that kinda strange
Often on public land you need to hunt more peak rut to get the full activity...still a bit to go! 10 days to a couple of weeks depending in where you are at in the country ...
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 much appreciated hope u guys good luck
You said VA 😂 Also I had a big buck show up on cell cam at 9 a few nights ago headed to the food plot do you think that is early enough to call him a core buck?
Ha, VA for sure 😊
You want him within an hour or so and a few times per week...
For me in southeast Michigan 7th through 14th has been magic for me the last few years. The 9th in particular.
Minamal activity so far at my place in Pa. But a lot of small bucks on camera, 10 in 1 night on 3 yard cameras. No sign of the older ones that were around 10 days ago.
Bet they will be around soon!!
Been seeing some Young bucks chasing for about a week last night I had a good two and a half year old eight point put on a show. I've never heard a buck grunt as much as he was grunting chasing a group of does around.
I'm in Central kentucky about 30 mi south of Lexington hunt about a 300 acre cattle farm currently running about 40 head of cows on it so cows are fairly easy to avoid not a fan of hunting around the cows but sometimes the deer don't seem to mind other times they avoid them.
I think next week first week in November rather is going to be crazy in this area.
I'm retired so I can go anytime I need to go if the wind's right and the temp's right I'll be out there.
I've killed several good bucks on Halloween.
Rut in SE OH typically peaks 5-12 November. I'm seeing fresh scrape activity now. Good luck everyone!
Love to hunt the rut up North one day. I agree the rut is the same time every year…that said, I’m in Florida. Florida has varying rut dates (August in S Florida, Mid Oct in my neck of Central Florida). Florida is a rut wild card! Here comes a buck. Gotta go! Great video Jeff.
Good luck with the buck!
And I like that...FL is a rut wildcard 😊
Massive fan. I've seen so many of your videos and they are spot on. Picked up my first rub, under a licking branch yesterday. The cold Saturday turbo-charged movement. Three core bucks on 180 acres, just waiting for the non-core!
Great video Jeff. I will use this in North Carolina this week. There have been 15-20 degree drops in daytime high to night time low here the past day or two. The day time high also drops from 75 to 63 from Monday to Tuesday. Tuesday morning low is 39, Wednesday morning, 43. Scattered rain Monday and showers probable Thursday through Saturday. Would you hunt both Tuesday and Wednesday morning if possible, or just Wednesday? I’m near bedding in a funnel to food and don’t want to wear out my welcome. Peak rut here is Nov 30
As always, thanks for putting out these videos Jeff! Trying to be a sponge and soak in all your knowledge. I’ll be heading to Northern PA (Potter County) on Halloween for a week. What type of activity and time-of-day sits should I be focusing on during that week?
Definitely morning sits...I'm on my first morning sit in WI right now...morning priority for about 3 weeks now...

Does anyone else think this dude is all over the place in his videos? I’m more confused after than before.
Watch slowly and take notes 👍😁
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 I guess I could write notes on index cards so I can organize a coherent message.
Where I hunt, they just planted winter wheat. It's about 4 inches tall. Is that a good place to hunt over on public land?
That's actually pretty good...and very tender right now
They love it.
Northwest GA. > The family group of 7-deer I watch, 3-old enough to breed, based on when they had fawns last year, & counting back 5-months, & 3-weeks. Therefore, a hunter in my area should start sitting for Pre-Rut on Nov. 15th. Because the Rut will *Peak* on Nov. 23rd. / Then the bucks will recouporate & Post Rut will start approx. Dec. 24th.
Rut is starting early this year in Texas. Just sat and watched the bucks chasing. This usually doesn't happen till mid November...
Thanks for another great video Jeff. Anxiously waiting for each one. Totally agree about the exact timing of the rut each year. Closely watching Huntcast for heading to my best stands. For the 1st time ever after changing my farm based on you I have mature bucks to hunt this year. Huntcast is confusing me on one thing. Im in Cape County MO and on November 7th it’s giving 0 points for the Rut. Based on your videos and my experience we should definitely be in prerut?
dude I was Bow hunting over in the middle of Danky dank at my ladder stand on a top of a ridge and kicked up a 5 pointer on the way in. i then sat in the stand with my ghilie suit until dark and then a nice 2 point buck with only one antler comes 20 yards into my lane. i shoot him and it hits him in the shoulder blade and it richochedes off his shoulder blade like a brick wall. he walks away and is bleeding though. i almost had time to get another in him but he saw me when i loaded my next arrow. i waited 30min plus to track the blood. the trail was a mile long and took hours to track so i gave up. i went back to get my shit from my stand to head out and come back tomorrow. i then hear howling and yipping. it was some coyotes or wolves and i shine my head lamp in the distance and there are all these eyes 40 yards from me lookong at me. so i high step it out of the woods in the pitch dark tripping over everything trying to find my bike to pedal back to the truck. i get back to my truck sweating balls and out of luck
Got a big 8 point Wednesday chasing a doe here in PA
That's awesome...it has begun!!
I'm reaching out for help. Had an illegal hunter, trespassing, and change about 5 acres of my property towards the back end. I have put some time an money getting this property white tail habitation. 3yrs ive put in this property. I had herds of doe an yearlings, Big bucks, "documented 12s, 10s an 4-8s. Since end of August, not a single doe or buck. Walked the property an this guy has cut down trees, made make shift fencing, cutting off the main trail coming in, and had food plots and a tri-pod stand set up. I took everything. Called wildlife here in clermont county. Had the guy warned an logged in their data for future infractions. Needless to say. NO DEER! At all. Completely ran off. Not a single picture on any of the 4 game cameras. Now what??? I'm f@#*ing pissed to say the least. 3yrs invested an thousands wasted...
H E L P!!!
If I have a Florida bear on camera every day on my hunting land, does that keep away buck? (Seems to be.)
Just wondering if this land is hopeless due to the bear or if buck can be lured in?
Hi Coach...those bears do push deer away. If he is coming into bait I would get rid of the bait for a bit. Up here if they come into water a person should cover it up.
I agree, keep bear away! I have been bear hunting for 40 years.
Another thing is a bear will sniff out fawns and consume. Very few animals can smell a fawn… old bear and wolves can!
My ny rut vacation is November 13th till the 20th so I guess I missed the rut or at least the first phase
You will catch a bit of the take end, but miss the majority of it. The week before is by far the best bet...also the last weekend of October.

I love watching your videos, its a huge learning experience,
I hunt in SE MN, I was in the stand Friday morning at 5 am, at 8:45 I had 5 doe's come wondering by, heading to there bedding area. I left my stand at 10am and started heading back to the farm. after walking about 250 yards away from my stand, I seen one of the bucks I am targeting, with 2 other smaller bucks. Shouldn't they be out of there bachelor groups?? I figured the target buck would be more focused, on the females
Most of all looking forward to all the mosquitoes dying when it frost thermocell can only do so much 😂😂 As always appreciate the quality content, makes my morning breakfast educational.
What is your take if they don't have brow tines after a couple years ? Call buck or not ?

Love your videos! Very helpful, especially this one! I've had a rough idea/ understanding of the rut, but I'm glad you went into detail with all the phases and timeline of the rut; regarding southern MI (as that's where I live and hunt). I appreciate it all! Good luck with venti this year!
Do your plots turn into destination plots once the farmers pull your crops?
They are holding plots all season...then the deer go to an after dark destination somewhere off the land, after dark.
Love the videos! Obsessed with them actually lol I hunt a private land area with agg fields on all sides. What is your recommendation on getting in in the morning without spooking deer? It’s hard to pattern them to a certain field. I’m in Maine
Hi Nicholas that is awesome to hear! I appreciate it😊
What I do (just 2 days ago) is wait until just after daylight, scan the field, make sure the deer are out of the fields and then head to a stand.

This year for me is going to be chalanging,, we have a bunper crop of white oaks where I hunt. And we have lots of white oaks. Every where. So they can literally eat any where,, and lay down. Its very thick in places. Here and where I hunt you can only bow hunt. But that's makes it more challenging. For me. Its a tough place to hunt but I enjoy. The challenge. I hunt on,the ground. And there s not alot of deer here. So you really have to do allot of scouting before you hunt,,,,,

November 13th I had a very aggressive buck chasing a doe and he was stomping and wheezing and she was running for dear life lol he ran her in a few circles and she lost him for about 30 seconds. Shortly after her baby runs up trying to keep up lol their getting the woods dirty allready
Thanks for all the videos Jeff. I was wondering if you could make a video on how youd convince your fellow landowner/family member to increase the age of the bucks on our 120 acre michigan parcel. All family members want to shoot 2.5 year olds because they are "big bucks" and "if we dont shoot them our neighbors will". I know theres some 3.5s on our land. but trying to get family members to pass on a nice 8 point 2.5 year old is a very hard conversation. please help! thanks!
I agree for most part but hunting big bucks also requires some good ole fashioned luck awarded by attendance. I love the mindset in general but you also gotta put some time in on stand to take advantage of opportunity. Love all the vids tho

I've lived in wisconsin, specifically St Croix county for about 8 years now. I moved up here from Nebraska. I have always felt that the Wisconsin gun season was about a week or two late. After watching many of your videos, and listening to your thoughts and being a little bit better educated. I guess Wisconsin does that on purpose. This year I'm going to put down the rifle and pick up a bowl so that I can actually be out there during the exciting time. By my calculations, and by listening to you that should be this Thursday Friday Saturday before Halloween. Correct me if I'm wrong
Live in the county too, live in river falls if you know were that is!

Good morning Jeff wow that is a lot of great information on all the ruts. Just one question I put bait around my areas were I have mock scrap is that going to mess up the deer approach to the mock scrap
Hi Ralph...it can? Bait is always a risk to mature bucks...a mock scrape is not. I like to keep the two separate with 2 different stand locations.
First time gun hunting on public land pray I don't get shot
What do I do if I bump deer when trying to access my tree stand
I’m in Wayne county North Carolina so when is the rut for us .
Hey Jeff. Been tracking my target buck since June, been getting close to his bedroom (getting pictures ~0.5-1 hr before/after dark) and just as I feel like I'm getting close a logging crew came in and started logging the very area I think he's bedding in. Mountains of West Virginia, think hes bedding right below an oak flat on top of a mountain, theyre logging the oak flat. Is all my work blown? Think he'll stay close? Move? I think he's 4-6 years old, old and wise so I'm not sure.
Hi Connor...in my experience persistent logging in a spot can relocate a deer herd, let alone a deer. Meaning it pushes deer out. However, when that fresh cut is the only food source in the area...big woods areas not ag locations...then they can often arrive back within a week of finished logging operations.
Make sure you find his new bedding area of they are logging his bedding area. Although the new cut may be his new favorite food source, he will move his daylight bedding area to the next best option.
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Sounds good, will do. Thanks for the response!
